According to my son, and a nephew, they raised it from 55 to 62.  That's active duty, so I don't really know any other details.

We were talking about it during Christmas.

Definitely worth checking into.

Thanks Brent.   I see them on Ebay from time to time.

I did not serve, but I believe she would have been immediately eligible if she served 20 years, without having to reach the age of 65 AFAIK.

I don't know if you will find anyone sympathetic to her heirs receiving the unpaid pension.  My wife called social security when her mom died and she didn't know whether she should cash the most recent check or return it.  The unsympathetic government employee said bluntly, "We don't pay benefits to dead people"

Money owed is money owed and it is in the liability column of the treasury.  She did/does not need the money so she never applied to collect it, however, it is my job as executor to pursue it, which means the lawyer. Beer

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang a Beer and Dirk half a dog treat!

Dirk felt better today. No down loads in the kitchen today and did his #2 on our walk.

We have stopped giving him canned dog food and treats. Well OK tonight I gave him a 3rd of a Milk Bone. Guess we will still take him to the Vet Thursday to be safe. We only feed him name brand dog foods and treats but does not mean anything.

Brent if she was in the US Army and did 20 years she should have a pension coming. But I have no idea if it could be paid from the start of her 20 years to current or just current due?

Mr B now that put a smile on my faces! Pretty sure Dirk would not fit in the I1sa BLI box, even a Big Boy Box would be a tight fit! Laugh

Later Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof!

Good Morning All,

Ken - glad Dirk is feeling better. I second your idea of bringing him to the vet anyway. The advice on the dog food is good. Even the name brand stuff can cause a reaction with our little friends.

Dave - thanks. I did the lot with that 1/8" thin craft foam sheet oddly enough just like the feature in MR recently. I use the black foam sheet stuff, latex caulk or white glue to hold it down (both peel back up but both peel the undercoat paint off the foam underneath). After that I masked and sprayed with hair spray and sprinkled extra fine cinders then brushed the loose stuff off after it dried. I use the same deal with cinders or ballast for all the rural roads and secondary roads which i lay in with the old rubber/asphalt road bed stuff I have left over from a previous layout. The instant bed used to come in black or grey rolls and you can squeeze it on the edges to taper it down to represent a crowned road. There a long winded answer to a simple question.

Back to the shop - lots to do and I leave in a week.    Ciao, J.R.

Good morning.  It's sunny outside!  It's 19°, but the sun makes everything seem better.

I'll have a sausage, bacon, and cheese omelette with hashbrowns.  And bring the Red Devil sauce.

My paper shredder is ready to overheat.  I'm like a politician leaving office due to a criminal accusation!  My file cabinet will be 400 pounds lighter when I'm through.

It's funny that years ago, we were told that eventually we would be a paperless society.  But now I have everything stored on the computer, and I also have a paper copy.

I guess when people my age die off, the newer generations will not see a need to keep a paper record.

No layout work until this file work is finished.  Have a good day, everyone.

John,

We can believe in a paperless society when we can show the officer the license insurance and registration on our phonesWhistling. Until then it's computer storage and paper backups for important stuff. Double the work, half the fun.  J.R.

Good Afternoon!

I feel slightly better, but still a little shocked about what happened yesterday. Following the doctor´s recommendation, I went to the hospital to have themlook at my head, i.e. get an EEG done. From what I learnes, I was just a fraction of an inch away from a stroke, caused by too much stress. Some wise guy! That I know, but how to have less stress? I leave it there.

My paper shredder is ready to overheat.

That reminds me I need to have one. There is so much stuff I need to get rid off before moving to Denmark! At least half a ton of papers and documents no longer needed and way beyond their legally required storage time. I just don´t want to dump this in the container, so I will get one of those household-sized paper shredders. I also have a ton of books I don´t want to take along with me. Most of them I have read more than once. Our doesn´t want to have them, so they will be "binned" as well!

Happy times!

Well, I don't have, and probably never will have a phone like that.  To hard to do on my LG flip phone. Laugh

It's paper back up for me, and the little jump drives, or memerory sticks, or what ever you want to call them.  I'm about ready to fill one up now, as I slowly get rid of this Win. 7 (support ended last month)  and move on to a new computer.

I do have 2, 2 drawer file cabinets that desperately need my attention.  Stuff I could've thrown out a few years ago!  Surprise

Good morning .

Ulrich .... I hope you feel better soon. You may as well toss out old papers if they have no useful purpose.

Ed ..... Thanks for posting the photo of Monon 32.

Ken .... I'm glad Dirk is feeling better.  I once had a dog who got very sick on canned dog food which may have had food poisen.

Below is another picture I took at KY Ry Museum. C&O 2716 has been in the news over the past several months. It has been moved to another location where it is to be restored. That will be exciting.

Just when I thought I was going to have a mundane, ho-hum day — Everything is coated in a half-inch of glistening ICE!

I looked out at the bird feeder and saw two pair of bluebirds and a bunch of purple finches Smile

IF that wasn't enough to brighten anyone's day, the postal carrier handed me a hefty, solid-looking box a short time ago.

Good afternoon from the wet 7c West Coast where spring has sprung!

Yep, the Daffodils are up!

Two hours till game time wher and when the Canucks will dispatch the Minnesota wild. I think I have just enough time to run a Hudson or two.

I have to drive my sister to the airport tomorrow, they are off to Costa Rica the bums. She always brings me back a couple of bottles of exotic booze from where ever it is she travels to, so I don't mind being her chauffeur.

I am pretty good about keeping the paper load down in the filing cabinet, I do like to keep old bills for major purchases though just so I can see how much some things cost. My Mom bought her grand piano in 1970 and we still have the bill for that, it was a good investment as it is worth a lot more than what she paid for it new. My daughter will get it as she plays beautifully and she does cherish it.

Several months ago she set out to learn this piece from Game Of Thrones, she has been able to play on a piano at her University and even though it is a bit above her level she pretty much had it down when she was home for Christmas. They are home on Feb 14 for Spring break and I can't wait to hear it. I love her smile when she looks at me knowing she has nailed a piece she has been working on. Grandma would be proud.

Ulrich, stay on top of that health issue, it cost you nothing to get your butt to the hospital if something is not right. We had the ambulance for my Mom here on plenty of occasions and I never thought twice as being safe is better than being sorry.

Ken, dogs can have food allergies just like people can, also other things can set them off. We have an electric floor cleaner and one of our dogs had a nasty reaction when the wife came home with a different brand of detergent to put in it. Carpet shampoo can create havoc as well. Not all vegetables are dog-friendly and can even kill them, go online and see what people food dogs should not have. Never give your dog people meds, even though the name is often the same the ingredients are vastly different. Probably the biggest cause of accidental death in animals is people thinking the meds are the same for pets as they are for people and don't want to spend the money to get the right medication.

Well, it is train time.

All the best to all.

Brent

Brent, I wasn't being unsypathetic to your roll as executor.  Just saying you will run into government employees that really don't care.  It took my friends' widow months to get a certificate of death outside of the US from the embassy.

BL2  Ozark Railroad has 2 for sale $88,500

Amtrak was stopped in Baltimore for about 3 hours at rush hour because of a suspicious package.  No report on what it was.

Heartland Division CB&Q

Good morning JR, Joe, and TF

Good evening.

I was reading over some of the posts I missed.  I always say Hi or Good morning when someone says it to me.  So belated Good morning Garry.

I remember two Christmases ago when I was on vacation exploring the South.  You know, ... the time I got stuck driving all the way through the Ozark Mountains on Christmas day with very few gas stations open.  I was on my way to Memphis.

It was a really fun hairpin grade drive at first.  Until I realized I wasn't getting out of there very soon.  I burnt out the brakes on my Rent-A-Car.  I realized this when I could hear them slightly grinding when I returned the car at the end of my tripLaughWhistling  Oh well.

I remember on my way back home from that trip I was going to drive through Kentucky as I did.

You had invited me to stop in for a visit and see your layout Garry.  I really wanted to stop by but Judy wasn't on my same page that day.  I still hope some other time that will happenSmile, Wink & Grin

I wouldn't admit it to my family but I love when everybody is doing their own thing at Christmas time and I can just go do a long drive about.

Have a great evening all.  My Minnesota, Vancouver game just got started, ... Got to go.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk a Muzzel.

With a heavy heart my wife and I are tinking we may have to send Dirk back to Partner For Pets. Sigh What happened to the sweet dog we brought home 5 months ago? With us he acts perfect and loving. Use to be able to take him every where with us in the car and he was a good boy? Walked with the wife just fine!

Not now! Today while Sue was walking him the Mail Truck happened to come by and he went full Doberman Pinscher Attack Mode! Darn near pulled my wife down to the groud! I happened to be out there and I could not get him under control. I tried to break his concentration my giving his sharp pull on his leash, no effect.

If my wife cannot control him should we keep him? There is a little more to it, never know if he is going to like a person or not. He cannot go to our Bank anymore (Bank is pet frendily) because last time he went too attack mode.

I did promise him we where is forever home and I hate to go back on my word even to a Dog. Plus I do love him! Just not sure tonight. Sigh

 Later Ken

Thanks Brent for the double.

That Glenfiddich and Glenlivet are mighty tasty.  All I got in the house tonight is my favorite beer.

It's Hockey and I love Hockey.  If the Wild weren't playing tonight I would have been for the Canucks because I love Canada.

Remembering my Grandfather was and still is a Scotch Canadian eh!

Ken, my GF does have a Doberman, and he does go absolutely goofy when the mail truck goes by, which includes UPS and FedEx trucks.  I suppose it's a dog thing.  I don't get it at all.

Th GF has a choke collar and an electronic zapping collar.  Both help control bad behavior, but that is by no means a permanent fix.  A day later and it's like the discipline never happened.  Yes, he's been to obedience classes, and yes, someone else turned this dog back to rescue for some reason.

I love the two cats, but the dog is just a disobedient nuisance.

Good luck.

Well wasn't our night, oh well the end of a long road trip. Rounds on me for the rest of the night. We meet the Wild on Feb 19th again.

It wasn't my night in more ways than hockey. I am a bit of a wine snob and really like to drink wine out of good crystal. So tonight I go to the wine rack that the wife keeps topped up and select a middlen bottle and proceed to pour. I had a couple of CMs in the bottom of the glass and the stem just breaks and the bowl just hits the table and $10.00 of wine just goes swoosh.Sigh Oh well, best get it all over in one night.Laugh The wife was watching and says there goes another good wine glass.Laugh

The Canucks played twice while we were in Vegas and of course, I bet on them to win and they did not let me down. I was feeling flush after each game and so I can't be too upset by the loss. They are still top of the Pacific division.

I have mentioned before that the wife looks just like Meryl Streep (as she did 15 years ago) and when we were in Vegas people were coming up asking if she was her. I am not sure if it is a bonus or a curse to have a wife that looks like a famous person.Laugh She really looks a lot like this, hard to tell apart.

The wife bought some gummies on Amazon, so the night is still young.Mischief

All the best to all.

Good Evening,

Ken, sorry to hear about your trouble with Dirk. I will ask my friend who is a dog groomer, former breeder and has dealt with behaviour problems. Perhaps you could get a few books on the subject or see what you can find on line. Can you find anything out about the environment that he came from? Has he ever reacted to the mail truck before?  If it reminded him of a past bad experience with a similar truck?  Dogs can get PTSD too.  Is your wife nervous going out with him? If so dogs will pick up on that and get protective. Did you see your vet today? Anyway, good luck.

Well today I went to the LHS and am selling a few more N scale items. I also asked the fellow there about my K5a. He knows of a real local expert on brass who will look at it and is very reasonable for fees. It is running quite well but perhaps an expert can get it better. If so I would like to get a decoder in it which this fellow can do as well.

Anyway, off for tea and tellie.

There a long winded answer to a simple question.

Hi JR,

Thanks for the long winded answer! Seriously, you explained the process thoroughly and now I know how I will do cinder parking lots should I decide to build my own layout.

There is nothing wrong with detailed answers. I have been criticised on occassion for giving long winded answers, but if the person who asked the question is able to understand exactly how to do the work in question after reading a long answer, what is wrong with that?!? Nothing!!!

Cheers!!

Hi Brent,

I think a lot of us would be thrilled to see your daughter play that wonderful, and obviously challenging, piece of music. That is if she is comfortable having herself posted on the internet of course. We would be able to say that we saw her before she was a star!

You have amazing kids! That requires an amazing father and you deserve the title.
