Good morning.  Black coffee please.

Judy's day off today so I got to sleep in.  That hearty wild rice soup she made must have did the trick.

You seem to have quite the musically talented daughter Brent.  I know your proud as you should be.

Your unfortunate situation with Dirk still sounds like a packmaster issue Ken.  I'm sure it's hard to deal with as our pets become members of the family.  Maybe try seeking out an obedience trainer before you and the wife give up.

Kevin, that's another beautiful frieght car you created.  You sure have a lot of talent!

I still keep my favorite box car front and center in my collectionSmile, Wink & Grin

Have a great day everyone.

P.S.  Has any one seen that American Flag Jacob from Indiana made from 4466 army men painted red white blue.  He did if for his school project and is receiving a lot of recognition.  Quite impressive,  I wish I knew how to post a link.

I had to look that up TF.

Here's a video I found.

There are also lots of pictures on Google Images.  Looks like he's not the only one that has done this.

Very nice!

. . .If my wife cannot control him should we keep him? . . .

One thing to factor in to the equation--risk of injury to others. If he does go attack-mode, gets away from you or your wife, and bites someone (or worse),  the financial implications can be enormous.

Good Afternoon,

A very frosty -24C right now but it is sunny.

Ken, perhaps the rescue agency where you got Dirk can give you some assistance with the problems you are having. I'm sure they would rather things work out for you than have him back.  When he goes into 'attack mode' as you describe it, are his lips curled or is he just barking a lot and pulling on the lead?

Nothing much planned for today. My wife has an appointment shortly but after that it likely will be NCIS re-runs.  I might run the K5a for a while too hoping it will smooth out with a little running.

Good afternoon.  Have been out of town babysitting grandchildren, and we just got back.  Had to drive a little on some icy roads, but there was very little traffic, so it wasn't too bad.

Not now! Today while Sue was walking him the Mail Truck happened to come by and he went full Doberman Pinscher Attack Mode!

Ken, like MisterBeasley said, mail trucks and mailmen seem to bring out the worst in my dog, too.  Of course, she's just a small dachshund, so we can hang on, but she seems to think she's six feet tall the way she wants to go after the truck.  Hope you can figure something out.  At least it seems like you have Dirk feeling better.

GMTRacing
I did the lot with that 1/8" thin craft foam sheet oddly enough just like the feature in MR recently.

I really liked your photo, too.  I thought the parking lot looked very realistic.  I have never tried the foam, but I may give it a shot.

Tinplate Toddler
From what I learnes, I was just a fraction of an inch away from a stroke, caused by too much stress. Some wise guy! That I know, but how to have less stress? I leave it there.

Hope things calm down for you.  What's really bad is that the doctor's report just adds more stress. Once you can finally make a move and get your mother's estate settled, you may be able to have less stress.

Time for a nap.  Babysitting wears me out, and driving on ice at 2:30 a.m. doesn't help, either.

I happened to be out there and I could not get him under control. I tried to break his concentration my giving his sharp pull on his leash, no effect.   If my wife cannot control him should we keep him? There is a little more to it, never know if he is going to like a person or not. He cannot go to our Bank anymore (Bank is pet frendily) because last time he went too attack mode.

Hi Ken,

I'm sorry to hear that Dirk is not working out as well as you had hoped. I was going to make a couple of suggestions regarding electronic collars that are designed to control a dog's negative behaviours with electrical shocks, but I have no experience with them. Instead, I will suggest that you seek the advice of a professional dog trainer who has had experience dealing with problem dogs. You can't afford to have Dirk hurt somebody.

Greetings from the Southern Command,

I took 2 days off of work so we could spend some time at the Mississippi location.

Our house here came through the bad storms from 3 weeks ago fine. We only had one small tree down in the back yard. The State park campground about 4 miles away was closed becuse it had about 50 huge trees blown over. They had had campers blown over during those storms. About 44 tank cars were blown over near Sumner MS.

It snowed a bit on our Journey down but no bad weather or road issues.

see all later , time for some dirty rice.

Good evening.

Ulrich,  It's quite concerning what I've been reading here that your blood pressure is all out of whack again.  I thought you had that under control for quite a while.

Stress has a way of conflicting with blood pressure.  I know this as Judy has been seeing her doctor weekly and is doing rather well lately.  Her medication was cut in half this week.  Before that, when she had an elevated stress level at her job her blood pressure increased quite a bit for a while.

With your new found stress level dealing with estate issues and how you described what your going through with some of your family members.  I would suggest you go get some help with that as you know that's nothing to toy with.

Judy has a home monitor and l have been occasionally checking my blood pressure.  It's been usually really high.  I'm like a ticking time bomb.  I feel alright but they call it the silent killer.  I've been self-employed my whole life and have no health insurance.  I think I better get some soonWhistling

Maybe pretty soon.  Doctors and dentists,  I'm pretty much like my Father.  I don't even know what they are.  Except for the rare occasions when l have no other choice but to see one.

I always say.  I'm here for a good time, ... not for a long timeIndifferent

I probably should try to find some health coverage though.

Have a great night everybody.

Good afternoon from soggyville.Laugh

BATMAN
Several months ago she set out to learn this piece from Game Of Thrones, she has been able to play on a piano at her University and even though it is a bit above her level she pretty much had it down when she was home for Christmas.

Hi Brent,

I think a lot of us would be thrilled to see your daughter play that wonderful, and obviously challenging, piece of music. That is if she is comfortable having herself posted on the internet of course. We would be able to say that we saw her before she was a star!

You have amazing kids! That requires an amazing father and you deserve the title.

Dave

Thanks, Dave, It will be nice to have the house full of music again through Spring break.

We made the mistake of sending a piece we videoed of her playing to the Grandparents with strict instructions it was not to be forwarded, well that didn't work and all the relatives from England to South Africa and Australia had a copy and it ended up online. She had her school uniform on at the time and that made things even worse. It ended up being used for all sorts of things as it was a beautiful rendition of this piece from the TV show Lost.

Fortunately, after many years it seems to have disappeared from the airwaves as it did not have a title tied to it. She will not be a music star as science and writing is her bag. She has 150000 followers on fan fiction that read her work. She also plays the cello and clarinet.

We also had to stop telling the family what the kid was doing with his movie work as they could not keep it to themselves. His work in Deadpool 2, Legion, Legends Of Tomorrow and Predator have him showing up on all the Marvel and DC Fandom sights around the world with his photos and roles listed. The cast get copies of set photos and making-of videos that are exclusive for the cast eyes only. Well, those showed up on the WWW and the nerds at his University would not leave him alone even sitting around him in the lecture hall.

I signed him up to be a movie star (extra)Laugh more as a joke than anything because he was being a deadbeat one summer. Didn't know it would lead where it did. I must admit I think it is kinda cool seeing him fooling around with Ryan Renolds and Josh Brolin in the behind the scenes videos and pics between takes. Great memories for him that's for sure.

If my son didn't look so much like me I would have doubts if he was mine.Laugh At least he got his Mothers amazing brain and not mine. My daughter looks just like her Mom, Meryl Streep #2.

That flag the kid made is really cool, kids like that make you feel good about the future.

Ken, Dirks behaviour could be medically related, the first step is to get him to the Vet to see. A lawsuit is the last thing you need so proceed cautiously. Could be anything from a brain tumour to other cancer if it is medical. Fingers crossed.

Well, the dinner bell is going and then I have to drive Sister to the airport for her trip to Costa Rica. The train shop in Vancouver is open late on Fridays so I may stop by on the way home.

All the best to all.

TF I couldn't have said it better than what you wrote.  It doesn't hurt at all until you have your stroke, heart attack or kidney failure.

You need to get health insurance and you need to see a doctor.  It's one thing to joke about not living forever, it's another to have a stroke and be unable to speak or move one side of your body for the next 15 years.

A trip to the heart institute to have bypass surgery can cost $100 grand or more.  My heart valve was $170,000 - 5 years ago.  That $8,000 insurance deductible will seem like a deal

TF, I have to agree with Henry. I'm spoiled, I worked 40 yrs. in the cement finishers union, the wife and I have life time health insurance.  I'd be embarresed to get into the details of what it covers.

Get yourself together.  As forum member Mel says in his signature line, growing old is NOT for wimps.  Entering the 70's, I can attest to that!.

And I know your right Henry.  We just lost a friend and exactly what you just described happened before she died.  A stroke and a heart attack the same day.  Her death was probably a blessing in disguise.  Who would want to live like that.

This is not the first time this advise has been given to me and I thank you for your concern.  Judy is hounding me almost every day.

I am a procrastinatory person but something is telling me I can't keep putting this one off.

Monday is Judy and my day off together.  She has been all over putting errand day off if l would just get on the horn and find some health insurance.

I'm going to deal with this now.  I sure like those Grand Kids of mine.  Especially my new Xavier.

I want to be around when he coherently flips something offPirateLaugh .... That's my boyYes

I need to quit talking about it and get on with this instead of waiting till it's to late.

Thank you, Kevin Your generosity is above and beyond all recognition! This car will forever be at the top of my roster of thoughtfulness and kindness.

.

Ed, I am so glad the boxcar is to your liking.

.

Every one of the STRATON AND GILLETTE boxcars I give away are unique. Yours is different from everyone else's.

.

Well, I sent Sheldon two identical boxcars, but no one else has any exactly like those twins.

.

I had a terrible week, and I have a short weekend coming up, but I am home now. I intend to enjoy the next 24 hours as much as I can.

.

I treated myself to a hedonistic/decadent lunch in Tampa today. Danny's All American Diner has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives, and it is on several people's lists of best burger joints in the USA.

.

.

I had the classic cheeseburger and fries. What an amazing burger, and the fries, as always, were absolutely perfect.

.

.

The weather was absolutely like heaven today, so I ate outside in their back eating area by "El Gato" the bedazzled automobile. This is truly a unique place to enjoy an amazing lunch.

.

Everyone take care of yourselves.

Good Morning All,

A regular to go please Zoe. Just dropping by on my way in to the shop. Still doing wiring harnesses and putting out fires so to speak. Lots of wind yesterday but the s**w has held off for now. They finally cut most of the overhanging trees on the road in from the highway so we managed without any power outages. Since the shop is in an industrial area we didn't have a bunch of debate about axing the trees.

   Onward and upward.  Ciao, J.R.

I'll have a coffee with ya.  Black please.  Looking forward to a well deserved relaxing day.

I'm going to get out my A. SAEZ model after coffee and put the finishing fine detail on it.  Should be fun.

Make it a great day all.

I'm going to get on top of this. It's not my favorite thing to deal with but it needs to be done.

 TF, YesYes!

Friday evening my sister, the invincible one, who is far more fit and nimble and healthy than anyone else in the family (and is obnoxiously vocal about it), went outside for something, slipped on ice that was building on everything, fell down the steps of her porch and broke her ancle.  Badly!  Evidentally bone broke through her leg.  She managed to get herslef into the house and called 911.  She had surgery to (hopefully) repair the break and is in Strong Hospital in Rochester, NY.  Strong is a world class institution, considered the best in upstate, NY so she is in the right place!

I am waiting to hear how she is doing.  She did call my DiL to let her know.  She may have tried to call me, but I was on the phone for a couple hours with a Model Railroader at that time.  She will likely have a long recovery period, probably will be in rehab for a few weeks.  Her home is two story with the only bathroom upstairs....  I have no idea what is happening with her cats!  I drove up at the end of yesterday's bizzard here and found that someone had fed and put out water for the cats.  (They are indoor cats.)

That sounds terrible Ray.  I hope your sister will be OK and get through this.

Those medical bills are going to be Hefty.  This is what Judy is always saying to me.  "What if something happens"   It doesn't take much to rack up a huge medical bill, that's for sure.

P.S.  That upstairs bathroom sounds like a big problem Ray.  She may have to resort to the toilet seat on a 5 gallon bucket ice fishing trick, elevated some how and small garbage bags.  Kind of a gross thing to deal with for sure but much more manageable than stairs.  Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.  Could be a solution for her when she returns home in her weakened condition.

Ray - Sorry to hear about your sister. Hopefully she has insurance and not too huge a deductible. I agree Strong is a good hospital she should be well cared for there. The lady that did our track food ended up there a couple of times when she was battling multiple respiratory problems and came out fine. She's actually from Lake Geneva but had lived in and around Rochester most of her adult life so in a way it's good she took ill while we were at Watkins Glen. Not that anyone wants to be ill of course. Anyway best of luck to your sister and our hopes for a speedy recovery.

Just another incentive to get coverage eh TF?     J.R.

Thanks TF and J.R.!  Luckily she has excellent Health Insurance.  She can get it at a good price through the School District she worked for.  One of the perks of being a teacher in NYS is that most districts will let you buy Health Insurance after retirement through the plans they offer to the District.

Good morning, everyone.  Bacon, eggs, coffee.  Bacon, eggs, coffee.  I think I'm in a rut with my breakfast.  My wife sleeps late, I eat my favorite foods, and I enjoy the morning time reading the paper, watching Turner Classic Movies, and big cups of coffee.  It's a rut I like.

Garry, good luck with your surgery.  I'll bet your eyesight will be much better very quickly.

TF, listen to your wife and get it today!  I worry about you.

Kevin, that looks like the kind of place where I would love to eat, and also the kind of place my wife would not let us stop at if she was with me.

Ray, sorry about your sister.  Everytime I hear stories like yours, it makes me more careful at my age to do everything very carefully when on ice.  I imagine the only way to avoid it completely is to move south.

One good thing my power company has done over the past years is to bury power lines.  If that isn't possible, they will cut trees back away from the lines.  We have quite a few ice storms here each winter, and we very seldom have power problems.  I believe with all the destruction of the war in Europe, a lot of their countries buried power lines.  It will take a lot of time in the U.S. to do the same.

Have a great Saturday, everyone.

ROAR from the Broadway LION.

been busy with many things, but tomorrow afternoon  I *will* go up to the train room. There is a mystery short that I have to track down, and it will be a bear to find. Somewhere the + 16 v DC bus is crossed with the ~DC Track Bus. I hadf ot unplug the 16v supply in order to run the trains properly.

The 16v supply controls the signals, the station lighting, and the RELAY board that provides train and signal logic.

Of course every thing still runs on the ~12 vol bus.

It looks like I will have to inspect each and every connection to the 16vopld buss, to see what is causing the problem.
