Kevin, that looks like the kind of place where I would love to eat, and also the kind of place my wife would not let stop at if she was with me.

.

I have the exact experience with my wife. She is very uncomfortable with the local dives and diners.

.

Ugly oranges are in the fruit stands again! They are $2.50 each this year where I stopped. These things are so delicious.

.

.

Top Of The Page on a Saturday afternoon. I am drinking coffee for some reason. Please join me.

And best of all, they are not grapefruit Ick!

I've been through that Lion. Not fun. Hopefully your layout harness looks less like an explosion at the wire mill than mineWink.

Too bad, grapefruit is a staple of my usual breakfast, along with 1 slice of whole wheat toast and PB, and a glass of milk.  Dinner

Even retouched, I think I could use some real help in the photogenic department.

Good afternoon, folks —

I got the s**w plowing finished up and I'm catching up on WWW happenings.

Came across a quite excellent video of the CNJ 113, 0-6-0. Turning the sound up is a must! No silly music (other than the stack & whistle) no mindless narration.

Did you ever see an 0-6-0 at that speed? In passenger service, to boot! The trailing GP-30 is a classic in itself.

Did I mention, turn the sound up! Big Smile

Read about the 113 here: https://www.rrproject113.org/cnj-113

I wish your sister a speedy and complete recovery, Ray.

Garry, I got to ride this L&N* car, the Oliver Hazard Perry, a few years ago from Charlotte, NC to Cincinnati, Ohio. Just me and my nephew had both private cars to ourselves. Lived like royalty!

 IMG_0460 by Edmund, on Flickr

*Technically, it is ex-CN. The present owner painted it in L&N color.

That's a quite handsome mug shot, Kevin. You and I have the same hairstyle (I use the word style loosely Whistling). Company mug shots never looc very flattering. Must be the lighting.

Good luck finding your shorts, LION Confused

Everyone, have a great day!

Cheers, Ed

Good Evening.

Had a great Saturday so far.  I had fun finishing up the A. SAEZ model this morning.  I went up to the UPS store and had the custom signage made for it.  They turned out nice.  I just found out they did stuff like that last week

Judy was given a surprise day off so I took her to lunch.

Ed,  I enjoyed the steamer video,  Thanks.

Garry,  Those eye surgeries will go well for you,  quite the simple procedure these days I understand.  Just think of all the extra detail your going to see on your MR.

Kevin I thought that was a decent photo.  You may be more photogenic than you think.

Lion,  I hope your short is found in the beginning ones you check and not towards the last.

I even managed to get a nap in this afternoon watching a couple episodes of Family Affair in the recliners with Judy.

It's been a good Saturday so far indeed.  Hope your all having a good one tooSmile, Wink & Grin

Good late afternoon from the sunny was 12c West Coast.

Have my sisters flight up on Flight tracker and she is right over Florida at this moment, I told her to wave to Kevin as she goes by and don't flush.Laugh I always keep track of her progress on her worldwide adventures and would be there in a heartbeat if she needed me. She does the same for me.

Ed, loved the Queen Of The Valley video, that little steamer sure gets rock and rolling along the way.

I do not like grapefruit at all but eat two oranges most days along with an avocado and almonds. Five days a week I have eggs with two tomatoes, onions, cheese on one slice of bread. Sugar/ carbs mean Arthritis pain for me so bread is on my avoid list. I was living on Oxycocete and Tylenol until I got smart and changed my diet and now it is a rare occasion that I take any pain reliever. No sugar= no pain for me.

My mug shots look like Kevins twice a year. I shave my head twice a year whether it needs it or not. I am as attractive as a bag of bricks when that happens. If I let my hair grow I'm a good looking guy according to all those that hate it when I shave my head.Laugh I like short hair for working out as it makes the showering quick.

When we are on the road we always eat at one-off restaurants and find them a real treat. The wife has an app on her phone that finds really good (non-chain) eateries. If we can't do that we will hit a better hotel and go to the restaurant there. At least the food is prepared fresh and not full of preservatives.

Ray, sorry to hear about your sister. That must have been an ordeal for her to get back to the house on her own, must be a tough old bird. I have had to deal with bone through skin accidents I have come across over the years, it can put you off lunch that's for sure.

Maybe a small porta potty that is used camping will work, they hold about five gallons.

Garry, my BIL had that surgery and went from coke bottle glasses to not needing glasses at all, he is over the moon as he cycles and runs and not needing to wear his glasses to do that is wonderful.

The wife was out shopping for tonight's crowd and I noticed we were out of rum so I FB her one word "Captain" and she brought me a big bottle of Captain Morgan home. We communicate very well.Laugh

I usually sleep four to six hours a night, but last night was conked out solid nine-plus hours, Wife thought I was dead. Felt like crap when I got up and finally talked myself into getting on the bike for an hour and then I felt great afterwards.

Ran the Hudsons for a couple of hours, they were perfect and then worked on the water tower I am building.

The gang is about to arrive so time to get my first rum and Pepsi going.

All the best to all.

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk half a dog treat.

Dirk Front. First thanks for all of the advise! I think maybe I have figured out part of his problem, he is insecure. Today wife and I took him to Walmart Market. Normaly he goes nuts when people walk by the car. Sue and I take turns going in the market. Today while I was in the car with him he want to go off,I reached back and rubbed his ears and he quited right down. Don't worry folks he is not going any where just yet!

Ed I read your PM and thanks for the heads up.

Kevin Thank you for the gift! I do wonder what it might be? Confused If I where to guess it woud be a book about dog behavior?

Ray Good luck with your sister! With her only bathroom being up stars that is going to be a problem.

Garry Good luck on the eye surgey! Funny how cataract surgey is cheaper on humans than dogs.

Later, Ken and Dirk says Woof, Woof!

Tomorrow is the annual Winter Parking Lot Swap Meet at Zitnik Trains in Saint Petersburg. I am getting up at 5:00 AM to head in that direction.

.

I hope to get some good deals, I might strike out, but I love this swap meet.

.

Two weeks from now is the annual Scale Rails of Southwest Florida train show in Fort Myers. I will miss it this year because I need to be in Indiana.

YeahCool

G'd Evening Gang,   Just stopped by before I get on the Rack as some say,

Garry , I'll be following you this spring as Just this week I had my preliminary exam for Cataracts and will have the Op. in about three months.  Thats our waiting time up here for non emergencies. Will be thinking about you and I am sure it will go smooth and quick as they have gotten so successful with thay Operation these days.

Had Cody ( NOT GRIZNO) out for a two mile walk through the Dog Park this afternoon as it was quite mild aboat +5 and no wind so it was very pleasant and we both enjoyed it.

All is about the same on the LM&E , haven't spent much time on it this winter as most of it has been taken up with more duties around the house as my Wife broke her ankle just before Christmas and has just gotten out of the BOOT this past week.  Hope to find some time now.

My last Visit to the head and neck clinic at the Cancer center here said that I was 6 years cancer free, which I was very pleased to hear as at my initial diagnosis WE were told that I probably only had a 40% chance of surviving . You all can have one on me to celebrate.

Sorry to hear about you Sister Ray, will keep her in our prayers with all others who find thenselves in need.

Looking at some of the new ads in the MRR. rags and observing the cost of thingss today, I am sure glad that I had purchased most of the things I have on the layout and alot of kits both rolling stock and buildings yet to build. I sure don't need modern day rollong stock, for example at 40 to 50 dollars a pop. So that's a blessing as well.. They are really nice but not needed or nessasary to make my day.

Well, I'm beat, so I'll check out and get horizontal and see ya all in a few.

Blessings to all members and staff.

Good morning.

Black coffee please.  I hit the rack early last night and got caught up on some sleep.  I feel like a million bucks this morning.

Good to see you back Bear!  A definite improvement on Kevin's mug shot, ... He should fit in even better around here nowPirateLaugh

It's a snow day in MN today.  That don't confront me.  I have no where to go and all day to do itYes

I think I'll do some more modeling today.  I just haven't decided what I'm going to work on yet,  too early to tell.  Maybe I'll start something new.  Possibly another scratch build project.  I'm certainly stocked up on hobby supplies around here.

Have a good one!

Good morning.  I'm on my second large cup of coffee.

Not much going on today.  We were originally taking a couple of days this weekend to drive and go see some grandkids, but they are playing in tournaments away from home, so we are home.

Off to church, then a day to nap and maybe work on some train stuff.

Good Morning from the land of Buckeyes.

I really have no update on the layout since I spent 4 days in the hospital for congestive heart failure and a COPD attack.A double whammy of shortness of breath.

I did get to check the basement and can see a very nice ISL for my Summerset Ry. I decided the work desk will be on the left side and I'm now learning toward using my MRC CM20 since it has a walk around throttle. Why not my Tech 6 and throttle? The SSRy engines is DC so, the CM20 seems to be the better choice since the layout will be at least 14' long and the throttle cord should reach both directions if I place the CM20 in the center of the layout.

Have a good'un!

I am replacing light switches and receptacles because we are painting, getting ready our house for sale.  The originals were almond color and the new color is gray.

I encountered my first 4 way switch yesterday.  The bad news was I wasn't paying attention so when I installed a 3 way switch, I had a left over wire!  Almost had to send out emergency pm's to my forum friends.

All the pics on google show black and red wires attached to 3 and 4 ways and mine had a white wire.  Eventurally I found a site that described how to measure resistance to determine which set of wires were incoming and outgoing.  I also discovered the labeling of the electrical panel is just more "fake news"

My son had a good idea, put a post it note in the panel and write the descrepancies down as you find them.  Because you will never remember to write them down later.

Lion I thought you had a finished layout.   How did a new short happen?

Ray sorry to hear about your sister.  Upstairs bathrooms and bedrooms were a fraud thrust on us boomers, that's one of the reasons we are moving

Ken glad to hear you are getting Dirk sorted out.  The big box pet stores have inexpensive obedience classes.  I guess the quality varies.  You don't have the money for a Caesar Mallone, type, dog whisperer.  A coonhound rescue I follow was asking for $2,000 to get one of their dogs trained to be adoptable.  We stopped going to dog parks.

Garry good luck on Monday, cataract surgery is usually very successful.

Johnboy  good news.

Looks like I do need help.

Breakers are on, switch on the left is the bathroom light, switch on the right is the fan.  Neither switch works.

'A' is the same wire goes to both these terminals.  I thought I wired them one at a time, but maybe not, as neither works.

The only 2 wire with ground involved is the power source. The wire between the switches should be a 3 wire with ground.

I don't see a red wire, so I don't know whats going on.

I helped our electrician wire a 4 way at our place up north last summer in our kitchen, for the light.   It seemed real simple.  All of the switches were 3 way, except for the switch "in the middle" of the chain, and that was a 4 way.

I don't know whats happening in your situation.

There are enough members in here that claim to be, or were, electricians, maybe one will show up.

Maybe you need to start a thread in the Electronics and DCC forum. Laugh

Thanks Mike, there are grounding wires.  There are no 3 or 4 way switches involved just so no one is confused.   Yes all the wires are black the back of the box is jammed with wires, wire nuts all conveniently spray painted cream color by the original painters.

Hey Henry, I ran into one of those snags years and years ago.

I learned when changing out switches to draw a picture on a notebook paper and mark your wires with masking tape A,B,C,D and then mark your drawing A,B,C,D on your notebook paper.  That way you have no confusion and don't have to play master electrician later.

You will have only one four way switch as Mike stated.  That's switch will have an input which is the common, power in and an output which is common, power out.  Then it will have two travelers.

The other 3-way switches will only have one common and two Travelers.

I hope this helps you out.  It can be really confusing when you mix up wires, especially if you don't know where they're coming from or what they are.

Big Daddy,

Sonce they are not 3 way swicthes you should have two wires going to siwtches ( not counting ground) one input hot and one output hot going to light or fan or which ever. they could have daisy chained your input but not your output. (since they go to two differnt things. You need to figure out what is your hot wire coming from your panel.

There are no 3 or 4 way switches involved just so no one is confused.

Now I am confused, you said in your first post you encountered 4 way and 3 way switches?

So, you don't have a 3 way or 4 way switch?  Confused  I'll just watch and listen, as now I don't know what you are trying to do.

The light switch controls the light,  the fan switch controls the fan.  How can the two get wired together?  Each is seperate.  Each switch should have a ground, a white and a black wire.

The back of the switches usually spells out what screw is power in a load out.

Maybe put it all back the way it was, and start over, and take notes.

Henry,  just so you know, some of the new switches do not have the exact same terminal pattern as the old ones do.

The common terminal screw is usually black but not always.

The 3 way 4 way was a problem I solved last night.

Today's problem appeared in another circuit the bathroom light and fan, but was caused by a receptacle in an adjacent bedroom that I tore off the connected tab between top and bottom, on the neutral side so I had an open neutral.

I don't know why I thought it would still be controled by the light switch, nor do I know why there was 78 v.  Everything I read said the neutral would become hot at 120 v.

There was a reason I found physics difficult but aced organic and biochemistry.  One day there will be gene therapy for that.

I was going to install a decoder today and I really don't feel like it.  I need to get some more receptacles and some new smoke detectors.  Some people procrastinate getting health insurance and some procrastinate getting smoke detectors every 10 years.

Wonder what circuit they will be on.  The upstairs hall lights were marked basement, and the open short circuit in the guest bedroom and bath was marked master bath.
