Good morning ...
Meanwhile back in KY .....
Some models of Kentucky railroads:
My friend, Gus, models Illinois Central which had extensive lines in Kentucky. He also has models of Cadiz Railroad Alco S1's.

Track fiddlerYou may not believe there is a more expensive hobby than Model Railroading. Some of the corals were quite expensive and would die a week later, until you eventually knew what you were doing.
Kevin, sorry to hear about your situation, but at least you are in an okay spot. Glad to hear it didn't completely knock your feet out from under you.
All, hope everyone is doing well, as healthy as can be, and no bad news headed your way.
Cheers!

hon30critter I finally gave up on my computer! It has become less and less cooperative in recent months, and it seems to be developing a mind of its own. Settings change out of the blue, it is slow at the best of times and it freezes regularly. I had the computer cleaned up about a year ago and it worked fine for a while, but obviously its age is showing. Tonight I ordered a replacement, and I can't understand why I have waited so long. The model I am buying is a refurbished Dell with decent specs and a five year warranty (limited I expect but so what). The reason I'm wondering why I have waited to do this is that the new computer is dirt cheap! For the price, I could afford to replace it every year, although I hope I won't have to. Now all I have to do is wait. The one negative in all the reviews was that the company is sometimes slow to ship. I'm not going anywhere. I can afford to wait a couple of weeks. All the other reviews were very positive. I am so looking forward to better performance! I just hope the switch over goes okay. Dave

I gave up on my Windows PC and reformatted it to JMRI only. Bought a Mac Air for everything else. It's so much faster.

BigDaddyAll the sausages are $6.75/lb which would be 6.24 £ for Ulrich. Don't know if that is a good price or not.
That´s about 3 times as much as we pay over here.
Happy times!

SeeYou190I have my own 40 year list for when I really retire permanently in 10-12 years.
Hi Kevin,
While I am sorry to see you dumped so unceremoniously, your former employer might have done you a great favour. I was with Sears Canada when they downsized in 1989. Leaving was optional, but for me staying was out of the question. My position ceased to exist totally, and any other position that they would have offered me would likely have been a step backwards. I'm glad I got out. The many friends who stayed went through 'hades' trying to fill all the gaps, and most of them left the company within a couple of years.
I'm willing to bet that you will be back to work sooner rather than later, and that you will get a better deal in the process. I'm also very glad to hear that you are financially secure.
Finally, I want to suggest that you don't take getting let go personally. You obviously pulled your own weight, and I suspect that you didn't do anything that contributed to the downsizing, so let it go and move on. Don't beat yourself up, even for a moment!
Best wishes for the future!
Ulrich,
Cute video! Great animation too! I wonder if Dianne still has our Play Dough recipe? We used to make it by the pound when the kids were young.
cudakenRaccoon's are cute. But not what they do to things in the attic.
Hi Ken,
I'm glad that you got the raccoon out, but I'm more concerned about what it has left behind in the attic. Raccoon poop can carry some very dangerous parasites. I strongly recommend heavy gloves and a proper respirator if you decide to clean it out.

gmpullmanOnce or twice a year I buy sausage from the Usinger Elves in Milwaukee.
I worked with a man from Milwaukee that swore Usinger was the best. I think I will give them a try.

When I was working at various surgicenters around Baltimore and Washington, I drove by Binkerts, which supposedly supplied the schnitzel to the German Embassy. They take online orders. https://www.binkerts.com/

SeeYou190Also, no more stopping at the local sausage company in Southern Georgia I love so much. This is probably a good thing overall, but I love this sausage. I don't know where to get anything like this in Florida.
Will they ship overnight Fed-Ex or UPS?

I've been to Milwaukee only once but the sausage keeps coming
Anytime there are perishables they pack it in foam containers and dry ice.
I wish you well, my friend.

SeeYou190It has only been two days, and I am just now making a catalogue of the things I will miss.
Opposite of me. I made a list of everything I wanted to do, but could not before. I have worked quite a bit off my list, but there's still about 40 years' worth of things.

Heartland Division CB&QThe severance packages were very generous and we were already debt-free with ample savings.
Garry, I am in the same situation. We have savings, my wife is collecting retirement/social security, and we (and our girls) are debt free.

I will not be going back to Atlanta, so no more visits to Riverdale Station. I never even made it in there to say goodbye to the owner.

Howdy ...
we just got back from being in Nashville for first part of the week.
Kevin .. I just read your posts . Sorry to hear about your situation. I wonder about companies restructuring like that. If employees are contributing more to the bottom line than their compensation, it makes no sense. Anyhow, I can relate to what you are going through. My wife and I had similar experiences in our careers. The severance packages were very generous and we were already debt-free with ample savings. My previous employer gave the severance package as I said, but a month later they hired me as a contractor for consulting making double my previous rate of pay. After that, I had other consulting jobs elsewhere. Eventually, we built our house on the lake without any borrowing. .., I have no negative feelings about my previous employer. We retired very early in our lives, and we live well.
Well-ll-ll, it's cold, blowing, and snowing heavily. I'm now at the point I want spring.
To make up for it, we've got a nice fire going. Our dachshund goes to sit on the hearth after coming inside. She is so short her entire underside is wet and snowy.
I had a friend in New Orleans who had a large saltwater tank. He was a doctor, so I think he was the only friend of mine who could afford that hobby.
I had fun reading the thread, "Whimsical creations". I am almost finished with a scratch-built strip mall, and I have to come up with six business names. I think I'll try to come up with some fun ones. I'm also thinking of trying to build a flying saucer that will fit on an N Scale layout. This kind of stuff makes me look forward to the layout work each day.
I'm with Lion. I don't like fishing. I really don't like ice fishing. By staying home, I make it less crowded for those who do love fishing.
Have a good evening, everyone.
SeeYou190 . My mail is on hold at the Post Office because I was supposed to be in Indiana this week. I guess I should release the hold and see what I have! . Thank you. . -Kevin .

I had an aquarium I built in the wall way back when. Saltwater Aquatics was my hobby before Model Railroading.
I didn't have a very good camera back then and sad I never took pictures of the lionfish but I took a picture of all the corals. It took years to get those corals healthy before I added fish to the tank the second time around.
The more difficult fish to keep have better chances to survive when there are healthy corals in the tank. I had five saltwater aquariums in my house at one time.

LIONS do NOT go fishing.
Maybe not you but certain ones do
This lion fishes all the time. I had two of them years ago.
They used to wag their tails when I came home and swam upside down when I lit the candles at night on the shelf under the aquarium. Even though they are very poisonous, I feed them by hand. Eventually they became too large for my aquarium and ended up at the Minnesota Zoo.
LIONS do NOT go fishing. LIONS can not sit still long enough to catch a fish, besides out here you must dig a hole in the ice to go fishing. Just what a LION needs to sit on a frozen lake for hours cathing nothing but a cold and to pretend that it is fishing.
Nope if I *need* a fish, I will go to the market and buy one.
Besites we usually have fish every friday evening. Some times it is delicious and sometimes it is grossly over cooked.
When ever meat is over cooked, I eat a Bay Gull instead.

Well, We all know you as Kevin. It's a little more personable that way .... You're a great guy with a name to us, not a number!
Now I finally understand "See You 190" and I'm a little let down. I always thought, maybe at one time you had a car that went 190 miles an hour and you were looking in your rearview mirror seeing the people you passed
People have asked me where I came up with Track Fiddler. I like switching cars on fiddle tracks.
Sorry about your job situation. I understand it has a positive side to it but I caution you on taking too much time off. I took 6 months off of work after knee surgery about three and a half years ago. I found it very hard to get back into the swing of things after that much time off. Now-a-days I find it just as hard to get back after a short vacation
Did you get your package yet? I'm hoping it came in one piece. The shipping tracking said that you did but if you didn't, I guess I just ruined the surprise
Good Morning All,
Just stopping for a quick "cuppa" - regular please Zoe.
Kevin- sorry you were a casualty of the restructuring. With that many people affected, it went way beyond and that always affects the good and loyal as well. I'm glad you are ok and have a plan.
I hate the bump drafting they do now in NASCAR. The twitter thing I just stay away from - who needs all the discontent and so often people just don't have anything nice to say. Crashing is aways a possibility every time we go out on track. That it's a job makes it no different, you just hate it when it all goes wrong. All for now, lots to do before I leave for the track. Ciao, J.R.
Morning diners train show this weekend with my T-trak modules I got a building front 3D printed after designing it in sketchup, and waiting on railjoiners and a switch to come in i also bought 3 blue box frames for projects I have in the pipeline.

My head hurts thanks to Nancy Customers and Nancy! If they still burned Witches she would be in the ash pit by now! Today we got into it over the phone because I would not lie to one of her customers! I flinally told her "I won't lie for you Nancy"! Her retort was "your are a agent of the company not me". So I told her "I won't lie for the company or to any customer!"
Funny thing is I understand cost and she does not. By refusing to selling a used mattress as new I saved the company $59.00 in cost. Won't go into details because you folks won't care and I don't blame you!
York 1 John I have never been a hunter but at one point I was a firearm enthusiast. Only way I would ever hunt would be because I need food. I grew up on a river and in the summer I fished every day. It was all wise catch and release. I have no problem with hunters, just not my thing. Sad thing is Raccoon's are cute. But not what they do to things in the attic.
Kevin Glad you landed on your feet.
Later, trying to forget about Nancy Evilness Ken and Dirk say's "Can I bite her Daddy Woof, Woof?" No Dirk, you cannot bite her. Her posion would kill you!
