OK, I'm going to complain.

I just took the dog out.

It is 93°, the dew point is 76°, the heat index is 108°, and the mosquitos are approaching Minnesota mosquito size.  I think I'll move back to New Orleans, it wasn't this bad there.

No, the DAWDLE AND DELAY is not my roadname, so I will not be sharing any cars. . ...However... If you PM me your address I can drop a set of D&D decals in the mail for you. I have a few more than I can use.

Kevin, I appreciate the offer, but I have a small N Scale layout, and the only cars I have are a set of UP City of Los Angeles, and a BNSF intermodal train.  I don't really have anything that I could use the decals on.

Thanks!  I really think it's great you have put out cars all over the country with your Stratton and Gillette insignia.  That's a neat idea.  Some day, if I take a hobby shop trip, I will keep a look out for your railroad name.

. . .At 100K I pulled the rear brakes and they still looked like new! . . .

Is that a comment about the reliability of your truck or your approach to driving? ("Brakes?! We don't need no stinkin' brakes!") Wink

That's funny Kevin.  If I ever have any large amounts of freight to ship and I'm not in no big hurry to get it there.  The DAWDLE & DELAY R.R. would definitely be my best bet.  I will assume it's at a pretty decent rate.

I came across this beauty.  Green Machine!  Green Machine!  I'd swear the thing was brand-new if I didn't see the dent in the tank.  Of course it's not new but she sure has been well taken care of.

The picture is from a few weeks ago in Osceola Wisconsin.

Still love my childhood Railroad BN's.

I must say..... this is probably the best it's ever going to get again.

Check out the white nosings on those stairs.  I don't think anybody has even walked up them yet.  I think this locomotive was just parked here to fully cure the paint...... I was tempted to go up the stairs, jump in and see if the keys were in itWhistlingLaugh

If you ended up, waking up with that Green Machine in your driveway.  It would way out do the bender of the cow in the back seat of the 66 MustangLaughLaugh

Nice looking trucks guys.  I wish my old Ram still looked that good but the salt in Minnesota seems to eat them a little.  I probably should think about upgrading but it's too nice not owing anybody anything.

On the wxxk menu today was fun.  I was happy to have inside work because it's hot and humid here.  I laid a tile floor.  I love working with tile.  The first tile laid determines the outcome of the whole job.

Tomorrow ain't no fun though.  Dummy work.  The positive side is it's a short day for a Saturday but I hate to grout.  Who in their right mind would like putting the mud in between?  Yuck,  I wish I could get the kid to work on a Saturday so I didn't have to do itTongue TiedLaugh

It is especially hard to find a two door cab, long bed, 2WD, painted red. It looks like the old Colorado will need to stay in service for a while longer.

Here's the 2009 that I'm replacing, Kevin. I think GM calls that color Bessemer & Lake Erie Orange (or was it EJ&E?)

 GMC_2009 by Edmund, on Flickr

I didn't trade it in thinking maybe my grandson can use it. With 130K on it, still runs great. The A/C just developed a leak last summer. Otherwise, I've had very little repair work done. At 100K I pulled the rear brakes and they still looked like new!

The new Colorado is just TOO BIG for my tastes. I will have to get some kind of step or runningboard just to climb into the thing. Box sides are almost as high as my chin. With all that height I still konk my head every time I get into the cab Bang Head

Only reason I went with a Chevy (and not a GMC) is that my neighbor is a salesperson and she gave me a pretty decent deal on it. I gave her the stock number from their on-line inventory. She brought the truck to my house with the paper work, I signed the papers, gave her a check, she handed me the keys and I never had to leave the house or haggle with the usual vultures at the dealership. She got a little spiff and a check mark in the "sale" column. Win — win.

Cheers, Ed

Good Morning,

Ah, VW memories in winter. I had a '61 and in our weather up here it would have been a little cold to say the least except that the previous owner installed a gas heater under the back seat. You had to prop up the bottom seat cushion to use the heater. I don't know where they got the heater but it certainly wasn't designed for a VW. It had one speed and heat setting, High and Hot.  The hair on a passengers head would blow around when it was on. I remember driving home one night when it was -35 and I had to open the window a little as I thought I would melt in there.  It had studded snow tires on the back so it really was set up for winter.

Good morning, everyone.  Already had my breakfast, so I just need more coffee.

Garry and Kevin, I really like the pictures.  You gave me some ideas for when my grandkids visit.  Kevin, are you going to spread some of these boxcars around like your others?  And Garry, great idea with Cruella Deville.

Right now, I'm scratch building an N Scale version of the Psycho motel and mansion.  I will take some pictures in two or three years when I finish.

VW bug I drove in the 60s had to scrape the ice on the inside of the windshield. Heat didn't work until the car was moving, forced air system. Just a treat when it got below 20 deg.

Same here.  In the 60s, in high school, I delivered prescriptions for a drug store and they used a VW bug.  I remember freezing and scraping ice until you got moving for a while.

Have another medical appointment this morning, this one about 50 miles away.  There goes most of the day.

Have a good day, everyone.

Triumph TR's (several) Heat never worked but might thaw your kneecap by the end of the trip. Would not melt ice on screen either. Sidecurtains on TR-3s didn't seal anything and I finally gave up with the TR250 and ran it year round with no top. TR250 did have roll up windows so above 50 it kept the snow or rain (but not sleet) out. Geez I miss those cars.        J.R.

Good Morning All,

A regular and a blueberry bagel please Zoe. Can you toast that and add cream cheese too? Excellent.

Not too much to report on the layout front. For some reason I've gotten home tired and haven't done much. I did add a big drainage ditch to the throat area of the yard and covered it with coarse plaster to replicate concrete poured haphazardly plus some vegitation but not much else. If I get ambitious perhaps I will start on the pull out section where I took out the swing panel at the entrance to the isle.

Not bothered too much about pickups as I spend enough time in the duallys and don't care to use one when I don't need to. We have one dually crew cab and one dually extended cab that also has 4 wheel drive and rides worse than either of my Kenworths. The other company vehicle is the trusty Excursion 7.3 2wd still going strong at 300k. Nope, don't need another truck.

Hope those of you on the mend feel better. Ken you must be up to 60 days by now. We're proud of you for pulling this off.

Gotta go and get started in the shop.    Ciao, J.R.

Our car (Odyssey van actually) air conditioner is on almost all year round unless the windows are down. Why run the AC in December? It's because the windows fog up even with the heat on!

.

On every automobile I know of made in the last 15 years or so, the refrigerant compressor will run in defrost mode to keep the windows from fogging. If you run your heater without any output air directed to the defroster vents below the windshield, the compressor will turn off, and the windows can fog.

.

You will need the refrigerant compressor running in cold dry climates to prevent window fog with the heater on, but it usuallly only happens automatically in the defrost selection on your climate controls.

.

This is one of the reasons air conditioning is standard equipment on almost every automobile available for purchase.

.

As your glass gets older, the problem can become worse. The coating they apply at the factory to help with this gets old, and some cleaners can actually damage the coating and create worse fogging.

It's because the windows fog up even with the heat on! There is obviously a flaw in the ventilation design.

That used to happen to a few of the cars I had. It usually meant that there was a leak in the heater core. I've changed a few of those in my day. Talk about a knuckle-buster job. The heater core is the first thing they put in at the assembly line Bang HeadBang HeadBang Head

The air conditioner quit in my 2009 GMC Canyon so I went out and got one of these:

 GMC_CHV3 by Edmund, on Flickr

It was tough to find a truck that didn't have a four-door cab! As it is I had to "settle" for four wheel drive. well, I DO live in the "snow belt" but now that I don't have to drive in to w**k it really doesn't matter much.

I hope everyone is doing well this day.

Cheers, Ed

There is obviously a flaw in the ventilation design. Our old Civic was worse. If you wanted clear windows in freezing cold weather the AC had to be on full blast! It didn't matter if the fresh air intake was open or closed.

Any chance anyone has had experience with an asthmatic dog? My daughter's pappillon is staying with us and about 10 days ago he developed a persistant so the vet checked for valley fever and it came back negative. As I have paid closer attention, I don't think it is a cough, but a forced exhalation, similar what I experience when I am wrestling with my asthma. The more I see and hear, the more it seems like the dog is suffering from asthma. Does this sound familiar to any of the diner folk?

Possibly

My last little English Springer Nellie develop quite the hack.  It did sound like a cough or some kind of reflex gag.  She had a bone fragment caught in her throat that the vet removed.

Dogs get sick to their stomach and eat grass for some reason.  They munch on stuff all over the yard.  I'm sure a little stick can get caught in their throat too.  Maybe it could be something like that.

Hopefully not too serious.  I just love dogs.  The better part of my life was spent with them.

I Know.   How about Lakeside Park, Canada.  Sounds good to me.

If anyone else has a better Canada idea?...... I'm all for it.  I think we should just go back to the original one.  Was it British Columbia or something, I can't remember?

Although I wouldn't want to believe some new young buck will beat us out of it again.

You just never know?

Let's just plan this one again then.

Are you looking for some dry heat? It is currently 104F in Mesa with 5% humidity. The dew point is a mere 26F. No chance of having a frosty one today. Cold, yes; frosty, no.

We had only 90° today, but our dew point was 78!  It was steamy.  We are getting paid back for our cooler than normal spring.

Good Morning,

A nice day here, about 80F for a high. We haven't had any really hot days yet but we run the A/C in the house in the evening for a few hours as it tends to get hotter inside with the sun in the west. The basement of the house where we have our TV gets down to about 65F or lower when the A/C is on so we have to put on the heat down there. I open the windows but it doesn't seem to make it much warmer. Crazy I know.

Ulrich, sorry to hear you are having such a rough time of it. When I had my prostate surgery a couple of years ago the pain was bad for 4 days and then it suddenly just seemed to stop. Hopefully that will happen for you too.

Nothing happening on the RR front lately. I have a freight train sitting at the station waiting for orders that just don't seem to come.

We are still working on getting the planting finished. I'm talking flowers here. Should be done in the next couple of days.

J.R. What type of cars do you race? I seem to recall you had a Lotus 23B and a 7 but not sure.

Mr. B., nice to hear you are getting your RR back. Looking forward to seeing progress pictures. Your previous layout was really nice.

Well have to head out on a few errands,

CN Charlie

. . .From April through October, my car air-conditioner is never switched off.  In New Orleans, it stayed on all year.

I'm sure Richard and Kevin have very few days without air-conditioning. . .

We do have some time without A/C in Arizona. We switch from heat to A/C usually in March or April, depending on the year, and back to heat in October or November. During the early and later part of the A/C period, the switch may be set on A/C, but it only comes on for a few hours in the middle of the day. The temperature at night will drop 30+ degrees at night so the windows are open and the A/C doesn't kick on.

The yard is now a jungle, I expect to see Lion chasing Wildebeasts any time now.

I finally cut the grass yesterday, even though it had rained over 2" the night before.  I got so tired of seeing the grass get taller, knowing how hard it gets to cut tall grass, so I finally just cut the soaking wet lawn.  Probaby will go over it again today.

Another day, another doctor visit.  The past two weeks seem like one continual long medical visit.  Hopefully the end is in sight.

Along with everyone else here, Ulrich, I hope you finally start to feel better.  We are praying for you.  The same for Lion and anyone else with health issues.

I found it interesting that you said that Petra doesn't like running the car air-conditioner.  From April through October, my car air-conditioner is never switched off.  In New Orleans, it stayed on all year.

I'm sure Richard and Kevin have very few days without air-conditioning.

Brent, I was in junior high school when those Batman episodes were first on TV.  After the premiere show, that's all my friends and I talked about.  Adam West was Batman to me the rest of his life.

Almost time for my next appointment.  Then lawn, then clean up hail damage.  Not much time left for railroading.

Hope everyone's day is better than expected.

Good Morning All,

Ulrich,I couldn’t put it any better than what Dave has.

Ay and the same for me Ulrich. Hope you recover well and soon.

Youngest son strikes out for California to seek his fortune today. I think he will be fine but if I didn't worry I wouldn't be much of a dad, eh? Took him to dinner last night and handed him a debit card just in case but unless I miss my guess, he won't use it. Only time I had to call home for money was when I was in the hooscow in Pensacola and couldn't make bail on the 47 dollars a month or whatever it was we were paid by the Navy then. The rest is a long story with the usual youthful stupidity aolng the lines of "Hey watch this".

Time to pick up tools.    Ciao, J.R.

It means that they make more money off of you even if the state is the one that is paying.

It´s not the state, but my health insurance which has to cover the cost, but, honestly, I don´t feel like being home right now. It´s much better to be ina place where the have doctors around 24/7.

Happy times!

More sticky buns for me, please!

The night has been awful. It has cooled down quite a lot, it even felt cold a bit during the night, but the pain is just too overwhelming for me to catch any sleep. I am on what the doctors consider to be the highest dose, so no increase. Due to the pain, I won´t be going home today nor tomrrow. They want to keep me in "for observation", whatever that is supposed to mean. I feel pretty miserable.

Here in US you would be out the door fairly quickly. Ithey pay be the job not by the day. They will send you home with home health checking in on you, or would send you to a swing bed unit for up tp 30 days (all ins will pay for).

Medicine is not as laid back in US. They will get you in sooner and they will get you out sooner.
