Heartland Division CB&QStill in Florida but headed home today.
.
I hope you enjoyed your time in Florida.
I did not enjoy my time in Kentucky this trip! My car was covered in ice on Sunday morning in Bowling Green! I need to avoid Kentucky (and all places North of Orlando) in the winter time.
Top of Page 10 on Wednesday morning! Everyone can have a big mug of hot cocoa with whipped cream and marshmallows on my tab! Enjoy!

My logging in problems stopped when I tried Google Chrome to access the forums.
Maybe that could help.
Well chrome does work here at work, but Opera should as well. There is a funky cookie going on.
Opera now works at work after clearing all cookies.
Good Afternoon!
Aside from the frequent necessity to log in again, I do not have any issues accessing the forum. I am using Firefox, but frequently delete cookies and empty the cache. That is done by clicking on the "history" button and selecting "delete history"-
Let´s talk about toy trains. Now before you kick me out of this place and direct me to the CTT section of the Trains forums, hear me out!
Toy Train is the official denomination of the 2 ft. DHR line, that´s the Darjeeling Himalaya Railway in India. But there are quite a few other railways which rightfully deserve the term toy train, because that´s more or less what these lines started out to be - rch men´s toys!
One of the most know "toy trains" is the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway in southern Kent/UK. It is a 15" railway with a two-track mainline operation and trains to 1/3 scale. The "brain" behind this line was the race car driver "Captain" Howey, who loved race cars and steam engines. He had the line built in 1926/1927 in a popular seaside resort area. During WWII this railway was even part of the war effort, with armored trains playing a role in the coastal defense. Captain Howey died in 1963 and the line encountered major financial troubles - just like all railways in those years. Words of closing the line spread around, but fortunately, the line was saved. Being partly funded by contributions of the British Tourist Board through the lottery they conduct, the future seems secured now.
Enjoy the following "toy train" video!
Happy times!

hon30critterDianne and I are not having a good night! We got word a few hours ago that Dianne's brother in law has been kidnapped in Columbia. This one is not a scam. He has been missing for five days. That's not a good sign.
Sorry to hear about that. WE have monks down there.
BTW: It is spelled Colombia.

Evening Diners... Dinner time, for now I'll just have a cold beer after a hard day's work. Give one to Dave too.
First of all, just wanted to let you know Dave, all positive thoughts and Good Karma still coming from here. I just hope you and your family are doing okay with all the stress you've been going through.
I seen the darndest thing today. I was working in West Saint Paul. It was one of those alleys where I couldn't pull my truck around back to get my tools and materials into the house easily. I had to work from the front.
It was a murky misty winter day. The air was kind of like split pea soup. The temperature was not cold enough for things to solidify so the moisture just kind of hung there.
I was out digging in my truck looking for something and I heard a train behind me. Of course I turned around, that's what us train lovers do... It was then I noticed at the T of the road, it was like the song, Our House in the Middle of the Street. It was a pretty big house at the split.
The train got louder. My visibility was hindered but clear enough to see. The train rolled out very slowly from the tree line on the left. It immediately looked like it was rolling right across the peak of the house, then cutting into the other tree line on the right.
Like I said it was the darndest thing I've ever seen. My focal point from halfway up the hill was just the perfect place to see this like that.
Had it been the Canadian Pacific Holiday train,... I would have thought they were dropping Santa off at that house... that really did happen today.

Evening folks,
Slow day today, got bored this afternoon so I thought I'd see what the Wednesday bible study/fellowship at church was like.
Well not much train stuff going on lately.
I get my truck back this weekend, I can resume being a menace to society!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Nope nothing like that at all Ray, but thanks.
I don't have grandchildren young enough to play that for
PS I'm sure you meant well if I had grand-children young enough, I would play that for them.

hon30critterI apologise to anyone who thinks that posting about our situation is inappropriate.
I posted about my BIL who went missing because he thought a scam was real. If people are upset with you, they should go find a support skunk and give it a big squeeze.
I hope there is a happy ending for your family.

Evening again,
Dave continued prayers for your family.
Well the Wednesday night fellowship was a good way to spend a evening, I'm getting swamped by the mid December blues, I should feel better once I get my truck back and get that bill paid off.
Well I might linger a little while, I might stop in again.

Flo, give the gang and I a and the other diners what they want!
I have been locked out so long I don't know where to start? Guess i will start with this.
Wife had a bad fall last Friday Nothing to do with the knee replacment. Brused her back badly and finally got medical attation today and had a X Ray done of her back. They think she has a Commpression Fracture but will not know till Thursday. Her back was all ready all jacked up, so in a strange way I wonder if this might help? She seems to be standing a little more up right than before?
Diner that's BIL is missing. I was so stunned I got in the dinner I did not read the latest postings. Hope things work out for the better.
Ed Glad you like your Christams Present, hope the grand kids don't drive you nuts with it. Well I am pretty sure my wife does! I am driving her nuts with the Thundering Tennis Ball's all so knowen as Rolling Thunder.

Welcome back Brent!
How the heck you been? I would say good to see you, but I'll say good to see your text and your sense of humor.
How's that golden lab of yours that fell asleep with the corn cob in his mouth around Thanksgiving time? Did he get any bigger?
Ken welcome back too!
I was welcoming Brent back at the same time you popped on the screen.... Both of you ended up back in the Diner at the same time. Were you both in the clink together? Whatsup?

Thanks Bro Elias. I corrected my post.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Thanks, TF, it is good to be back from the hinterland. That pup has gone to a new forever home as it had a small medical defect and thus wasn't going to be shown or bred. I think it was only eight months old but the wife had it highly trained. My wife shows and very occasionally breeds Golden Retrievers and any dog that isn't perfect will be rehomed. I have no interest in the breeding/showing thing but have been emersed in it from a young age. My Sister flys all over the world as a dog show judge. My mother was also heavily involved in various aspects including a lot of work for Guide Dogs for the blind and service dogs. We have donated a lot of dogs to Guide dogs and the police and customs also use our dogs for drug enforcement purposes. The neighbours have wondered why we have police vehicles from so many different Police forces in our driveway at times. Usually, they just have come by for coffee.
Dave, I am so sorry to hear of your Brother-in-law's situation. I hope you don't mind me asking, but was he working there or there for other reasons? The reason I ask as is I have a friend that has spent his life doing missionary work and in our early 20s when he went off to save the world we kind of lost touch as the internet did not exist. We were very good friends through high school and into young adulthood, we would ride our motorcycles a lot together. He was very much a devoted Christian and I a devoted Heathen but got along great. I followed his life as best I could and it has been eventful, to say the least. Here are a couple of videos about him if you have the time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NA_RNriWTg
My nephews and some other friends have done a lot of missionary work including helping a lot of refugees in the War-torn Middle East. Knowing what happened to my friend Dave makes me think of them constantly. I never worry though.
The kid got flagged buy his University as his grades were exceptionally/unusually high. All his work went to audit by a board of professors. He has had 100%s on all but one exam and almost every essay. Not only did he keep every 100% he got, but they added bonus marks to boot. It sounds like they will offer him a job on campus next year along with a nice apartment.
He sent us some set photo's from Deadpool 2 that one of the assistant directors was sent and sent on to him. One is with Ryan Reynolds, David Leitch (Director) and him and the other with the three of them blocking out a scene. I still find it strange seeing my kid on movie sets hanging out with people that fans wait all day for just hoping to catch a glimpse of. It is just weird.
Well, we are having a heck of a blow with monsoons tonight and the lights are flickering so best shut'er down for the night. Glad to be back.
All the best to all.
BATMAN I hope you don't mind me asking, but was he working there or there for other reasons?
He is a highly regarded economics professor, and he lectures all over the world regularly. He has been to more countries than I can count. He was in Colombia to teach a short Phd level course.

Hi Brent,
I watched the videos. I'm at a loss as to what to think. It is a very complicated situation. I do admire Mr. Waines' commitment to helping the Liberian people enormously.
Your son is an amazing young man. I'm sure that having to go before a board to prove his honesty was a traumatic experience, and I'm glad that he came out with flying colours.
He has a good father too.
Good Morning!
Continuing for the safe return of Dave´s BIL!
Good to see that our MIAs made it back to the Diner!
Let´s talk toy trains - part 2!
15" gauge railways are quite popular, not only in the UK, but also on the Continent, or, as the Brits say, Europe. However, continental 15" gauge lines are more of the park railway type, happily circling around parks in some of the major cities in Europe. You´ll find them in Berlin, Vienna, Stuttgart, Dresden, Budapest and probably some more locations which I haven´t heard of yet.
The British, howver, operate real railways on 15" gauge track. Another one of these lines is the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. The line was opened in 1875 as a 3ft. railway, which closed its operation in 1913. The track was regauged to 15" beginning in 1915, and un 1917 freight and passenger services commenced.
Since 1960, the line is owned and operated by a non-profit organisation as a museum - or tourist line.
Enjoy!
Howdy ...
We returned from FL last night. We traveled with friends from IL who are now visiting with us here. ..... We saw our son who resides in Tampa and his wife along with an adorable one-year-old boy.
Our route in FL included driving on Interstate 10 where we could see the devastation from the recent hurricane. Along about 75 miles of highway between Destin and Tallahassee, entire forests are destroyed. They had lanes closed as heavy equipment was there to remove broken trees. Many signs were destroyed too.
Dave .... Continued prayers for your brother in law.
See you later.

Good Morning... almost afternoon.
My sleep schedule is all out of whack lately so I've been hitting the berth about noon and sleeping until early evening. So it goes — I stay up all night working having fun on model railroad stuff.
My thoughts are with everyone going through trying times. Certainly hoping for a peaceful resolution.
Weather has been quite calm lately. In the 40s today and partly sunny.

Amtrak is looking for a new home for the 4859 so they can make platform improvements. Any takers?
Glad the log-in gremlins have run off for a while. Good to see the regulars shufflin' in. Thanks again, Ken! That will be the hit of the Christmas party when all eight grandkids will be here!
Cheers, Ed
