Morning all, it is another beautiful sunny day today, The rains came in last night and I told everybody that I was going to have my first full day in the trainroom as Winter had arrived. I guess I will put it off another day and go enjoy the great outdoors as I will be longing for the Sun before too long.
Went to the Canucks/Washington game Monday night, the kids just couldn't get'er done against the mighty Russians, that Alex Ohvechkin is quite the talent. The Caps won the cup last year and it showed our very young team that they have a ways to go to be top of the heap.
TF, sorry to hear about your tooth. Ten years ago we had a nanny from Slovakia that developed a toothache and went to the Dentist, came home and said she had to have a tooth pulled. We asked her why and she said that's just what we do in Slovakia when you get a tooth issue. She was the prettiest young thing, all of twenty years old. The Dentist who is a good friend of ours phoned us and said she couldn't make her understand that in Canada you get a crown and don't lose your teeth. Long story short she got a crown and has had three more since. Iron curtain healthcare was what she had been used to. She still has her beautiful smile and is a wonderful human being.
Steven, I liked the ford commercial. I liked the old Bronco on the trailer. My friend that has all the V8- Vegas has a couple of those. I remember taking a road trip down to Nevada to pick up a fiberglass Bronco body for his, saw some amazing restored ones where we went.
Steven, if you have sticky brake issues on your Ford, there was/is a notice issued by Ford about the rubber part of brake lines deteriorating, causing the calipers to malfunction due to particles breaking off the lines and contaminating the calipers. Rubber brake lines should be replaced after fifteen years.
I use to rebuild the calipers and now you can't get the kits to do it and have to buy the whole caliper.
Ray, glad you avoided being nailed by the old guy. My only near death experience was at an intersection. I didn't get hit but came so close to being killed I still feel it in my gut when I think of it. The truck ran a red at high speed and I sensed something was not right and managed to save myself.
I use to sit in on accident investigations for the Feds and we would rule not only on fault and cause but also whether it was preventable or non-preventable by the other drivers.
On the kids flight home from Ottawa, he said lots of people were watching Deadpool 2 on the plane and he had people asking him if he was in the movie. First time that has ever happened to him. He had a seat next to the toilet and had a lot of traffic going by.
The wife and I have been thinking of moving, but instead of buying a house we are seriously thinking of renting in a few different spots around the world for a year here a year there. I would love to have extended stays in New Zealand, Australia, and some South Pacific islands. France and Italy are also on the list but less appealing to me. The Southern hemisphere makes me think I'm escaping the lunacy of the North.
I love listening to covers of songs and came across this one. For those that play, this is a little different than how Mark Knopfler plays it.

Good News Credit score went up another point!
Bad News, well seems I was right on the money when it came to a new roof. I gussed $12000.00 and bid came in at $12028.00 All new gutters would added another $1250.00. I know I could get them to throw in the gutter work. I will get a few other bids but seems close to what the going rate is in this area.

Far as "perfected" songs I think of Billy Joel's Captain Jack, it's a disgusting song that's just miserable to listen to, but for what it is it's perfect. And I'm a really big Billy Joel fan, I just hate that song.

After more non-moidel-railroad stuff, I worked on model trains last evening. One little project was to change the coupler mounts on a dummy F7B for closer, more realistic coupling. The F7B is an Intermountain shell which I mounted on on a dummy Athearn chassis a few months ago. The coupling distance did not look right, and now it is corrected.

I can't ever remember a time that song came on I did not immediately change the radio station. Now being even further tortured and subjected to seeing the video, it definitely reinforces that logic.

No, that's not what I meant at all. A perfected song is the epitome of its particular musical style, as good as it can possibly be, even if you personally aren't a fan of that particular style of music.
For example, I absolutely hate reggae music, but "Red Red Wine" by UB40 is about as perfect a reggae song as you can get. I'm also not a fan of country music, but it would be impossible to improve on "Stand By Your Man."
To give an example on the other side, here's an absolutely perfected rock song, which also happens to be one of my favorites.
Edit: Hm, the video won't embed. Probably because it's the official version. Anyway, the one I'm talking about is Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song."

Okay . . . what about Paul Simon's You Can Call Me Al from his Graceland album? Nice brassy chorus, terrific little bass break, bongos, even a penny whistle.
