Top of the page, I guess drinks are on me. Since it is early morning, and I am in Florida, lets just have an Orange Juice to start the day.

Good Afternoon,

Finally a sunny day here but it is only 30F so far.

Had my annual physical this morning. My BP is good at 127 over something. Doc was happy so I am. Just waiting for the test results. I see specialists for my glaucoma and prostate, well I don't have one of those any longer so just follow-up.

Ken, hope your estimate goes ok. I'm sure you will get several. We had our roof done in '05 and it cost 12k for about 1800s.f. but we had a tar and gravel one as our roof is nearly flat that  we replaced with a membrane or torch-on. They are about twice as expensive as shingles but last a lot longer. The tar and gravel was 45 years old.

Nothing planned for today but we are going to a presentation on travel to South Africa tonight by a fellow who has guided there and has presented some TV shows about safaris. It should be interesting and being free is a bonus.

I have been running my Mike pulling a freight. Wish I could find a GTW caboose. I will keep looking as I know True Line did one a while ago.

As Jerry used to say, 'Have a good one'

Morning all. It is another perfect day in paradise with warm sunshine as far as the eye can see.

Came across this cab ride this morning, I don't think I would ever get tired of work with views like this.

A very good friend of mine was an electrician and drywaller and taught both at the trade school. He needed a change from the rat race and I showed him a Canadian Pacific job posting for a signal maintainer in the Rockies. I was sort of kidding when I E-Mailed the link as it was a job that required little skill, however, the pay was not bad. He got the job and because he was an electrician got promoted to a supervisory position pretty quick. He loves working outside and it is the best job he has ever had by a long shot. He wished he started at twenty instead of fifty.

Young Steven, this could be you surrounded by all this glorious scenery, changing light bulbs in RR signals. If I recall, the pay was $36.00CA an hour. Of course that is about $1.49US.Laugh

Dave! Congrats on being President, your parents would be proud. Being President doesn't look too appealing to me though as I started watching a show called Designated Survivor where the entire U.S. Government is wiped out, and a Canadian Laugh(Kiefer Sutherland) has to take over the Presidency. The reason I started watching it was because they want the kid for a couple of episodes. It is filmed in Toronto so he might be able to do that one depending on conflicts between exams and the shoot schedule.

Ray, congratulations on your great successes in maintaining your exercise program and the results. With my bad and really painful Arthritis, I am limited on what I can do. A recumbent bike is pretty much it these days. On good days I can do light weight training but even at that my upper body muscle tone is a mere shadow of what it once was. I have weights in the living room where they get used in between periods of hockey.Laugh

Speaking of hockey, the Canucks (as expectedLaugh) dispatched the Pittsburgh Penguins last night, so that is three in a row on the road. The kid is home on Friday and he bought us centre ice tickets to the game on Monday against the Washington Capitals. I'll buy the beer, can't wait.

If he is not working he wants to play hockey a couple of times while he is home. Even though he hasn't been getting the exercise he should and says he is lean and somewhat toned still. I will go watch and say so how was it tubby? I love the dirty look I get just before he body checks me into the wall on the way to the change room.Laugh It takes very little time to lose conditioning.

Daughter still doesn't know what direction she wants to go as far as University goes and time is growing short. It was medicine for so long and she has an almost perfect GPA so she can get into anywhere she wants. Her interest in economics and Human Geo has really shot up along with media, so who knows. My wife isn't super keen on her pursuing Medicine as no matter how hard you try, there is no such thing as part-time.

Well, time to go hop on the bike for an hour with a train (my 4-4-0) going around the layout on silent and Gordon Lightfoot on the stereo.

All the best to all.

Brent

Afternoon,

I met Annalise to practice today, and we got to talk a little bit.

I was talking about my truck, she asked what sort of truck it is, I told her a 1993 F150 Reef Blue, she said and I quote "I like your truck already!" Whistling uhhh, yeah.... Laugh

Boy can she sing! Whew! Were just going to have an issue finding an accompaniment, but we've got a few avenues to explore.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, get the gang and I a Beer and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Had the person from Lakeside Roofing come out to look at the roof. Will get the cost in a few days. Local company so I will drop by to get the qoute.

Ray Reason I am thinking in the $12,000 range is because in my area a 2000 sq foot house roof is in the $8,000.00 range. My house all so has a large droomer (I think that is the term) and a fair sizes covred front pourch. I all so know a lot of the plywood will need to be replaced and 3 roofs removed. So I will not be surprised if it is in the $12,000 range. I am hoping for less, but plan for the worst.

Did find out why roofs have sand on them. The sand deflacts sunlight and keeps the roof from heating up?

 Later, Ken

Evenin' Folks!

It is going to get COLD here tonight they say.  Forcast is a warning for a hard freeze in Ontario County south of the NYS Thruway.  Talking in the low 20's F in the higher elevations and mid 20's F in the lower spots.  I spent a few minutes gleaning the rest of the vegies from my garden.  Brought some string Beans, and about 10 usable green and red (ripe) peppers.  Not much else out there except some carrots, and they will get harvested in a week or so after the freeze.  I did take the tropical tree that my sister has outside during the summer into the house...  She wanted me to just put it on the porch if there was a frost.  I did that several days ago when they had a frost warning, but with this one I figured the safest thing would be to put it back inside.

BATMAN
Ray, congratulations on your great successes in maintaining your exercise program and the results.

Thanks Brent,  now that winter is approaching it looks like I will need to spend several hundred more on some winter duds like a new good coat for church or going out amongst them....  I just tried on my old dress winter coat and it like everything else is way too big!  I also found my old red Scout light wool coat from about 35 years ago....  Guess what?  It fits me again.  It was missing about 4 inches around the chest of doing that for many, many years.  I will have to wear the old thing to a meeting soon. Smile, Wink & Grin

I got an email from my Niece who definately wants me to officiate the interment service for my sister the deacon.  I think since she doesn't plan to have clergy there, and that I am also an ordained Deacon (different denomination) that would be appropriate.  It may have been my sister's idea actually....  I'm sure it will tick off my other sister who is not a believer though (that I get a bigger part than her...).  I will deal with her with care and love and it will be OK.  I have an email into my pastor about the use of a particular dismissal blessing at the end that I would like to use.  Want to make sure it would be appropriate for it.  Need to get back to my Niece by tomorrow at the latest.

Well... Steven, be careful!  You two might end up making beautiful music together....... Whistling

Evenin' Folks

I don't have any music videos to post.

Sorry.

I did stumble across this beautifully done video on the replacement of the Delair Bridge crossing the Delaware River near Philadelphia. Close enough to New England:

http://michaelfroio.com/commissionedwork/2015/4/29/delair-bridge-project

The video is on Vimeo and embedding is disabled so you'll have to click the link. (The PLAY arrow is kind of hidden between the letters A and I in the title).

Can anyone here contact Ulrich? I seem to recall some folks had his email address or perhaps phone number. After their home was broken into a few weeks ago I am concerned for their safety and well being.

I hope everyone else is doing well —

Regards, Ed

Ray that outcome is quite possible!Laugh

What I thought was hilarious was she said she like my truck already, ALREADY? Um, uh, ok then.Whistling

Shes already checked off a few things on the list of what I would look for in a girlfriend, 1st she doesn't mind old cars, actually she wants a 50s T-Bird with one of those "lowrider" style hydraulic suspensions, so that's not only not minding old cars but has a taste for them, and a T-Bird is Blue Oval so thats another plus, she likes old music, shes homeschooled (ok not a thing that's a necessity but we have more in common), shes pretty (not that it matters...Whistling)

I'm going to ask her out after the Art Crawl and see how it goes, if anything we can be friends.Laugh

Mornin' folks!

Everything was white outside when I arrose this morning.  Actually it still is where the sun hasn't crept in yet.  Glad I brought the tree inside at my Sister's house.  Actually nice a sunny outside at the moment.

I'm going to ask her out after the Art Crawl and see how it goes

Steven, My son (the one in England) recently gave me some good dating advise (he knows me well!) which I will pass on to you (The Main Points anyway).

1. Listen.  Listen to what she has to say.

2. Avoid talking about other women you have dated.

3. Enjoy yourself -- and be in the moment.  No need to stress out about the date.  If she likes you and wants to go on a second date great.  If not, it is her loss.

4. Listen!  see #1

Hope things will work out well for both of you!

I have an enormous amount of stuff to get done today!  That includes the daily drive to take care of Claude & Illia, my sisters kitties.  Good thing they are sweeties and I enjoy seeing them........  Have to get to work on the Division Newsletter (that should have gone out a couple weeks ago), finding layouts to be open for the Meet, Getting ready for the election of new officers, cleaning house here, diong some shopping....  And the list goes on.......

 Afternoon Diners.

Flo, get the gang and I a Beer please and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Does anyone know why Ulrich is boycotting the dinner? I know he say somthing along the line he did not like the drection the dinner was heading but it seemed the same to me. Well Steven being youger than us, well younger than most of are layouts is the only thing driffrent I have seen? Whistling

Another wasted day. Fell asleep with the TV on agin. Woke up at 4:30 AM when a survival show on and they where cooking grasshoppers and it made me hungery? Ick! Checked my blood surger and it was low at 52. So I ate a big bowl of Cheerios.

I have been trying to get the wife out to eat breakfest just to get her out of the house. Well today she wanted to. Sad Boy that was the last thing I needed. But I kept my promise and took her to Red Apple. Had a 3 egg omlet, hash browns and wheat toast and I have been paying for it the rest of the day!

Time to get back in the saddle again, go back to work. Money the company owed me is all most gone and cannot go a week with out a check. I have enjoyed being off and got a lot of needed things done, it has left a lot of time for me to do things I should not be doing.

Hello,

cudaken
Ed What do you think of your B&O Presdent Washgtion?

It is a real workhorse and has excellent pulling power. Details are OK for a budget model. That striping is what sold me Yes try doing that with decals. Mine has a slight wobble which seems to affect some of the BLI steam, but not too bad. It is a Paragon 2 so doesn't have the odd-ball chuff timing that some of the P3s have.

Actually mine is incorrectly named President Adams but I can live with that. Someday I'll change the number on the headlight to match. 5301 would be President Adams.

 BnO_5300_full-sm1800 by Edmund, on Flickr

 BnO_5300a by Edmund, on Flickr

If I recall correctly, I got this engine from TrainWorld at a closeout price. I'm willing to overlook a few details when the price has been discounted considerably.

I don't know if Ulrich is "boycotting" as you say, or did he have some kind of emergency, medical or otherwise? I hope they are doing OK.

I have no contact information for him. I hope someone can check in on he and Petra.

Regards, Ed

I just sent Ulrich an email to see what's up. I'll let you know as soon as he responds.

I had a consult with the specialist surgeon today. He looked at my achilles tendon and was not impressed. This is going to be a complicated procedure. He has to steal the tendon from the bottom of my big toe to help strengthen the repair. He is also worried about how well my skin will heal. It is very thin. In fact the broken tendon has already caused a hole to form which doesn't want to heal. He gave me a bit of an ominous warning. If the ankle gets infected there is a small possibility that I could lose the lower part of my leg. No

As an unexpected bonus Smile, Wink & Grin, he had me put into a cast so that I can't put any weight on my foot, or at least I'm not supposed to. Stupidly, I had gone to the hospital by myself and I wasn't going to take a chance trying to get back to the car on crutches. I was too wobbly. I had to call a friend to drive Dianne to the hospital so she could get our car. I don't like crutches but apparently I'm going to be on them until the end of January.Grumpy

The worst part of the whole thing in my opinion is that this throws everything in Dianne's lap. All I can do is sit and watch. I'm feeling guilty about that already.

Ray ... That was thoughtful advice to Steven .  Listening is the key to any relationship .  Not just he/she realtionships. Even if it is forum friends , it is best to pay attention to what the the other person  says . It usually does not work well for a person to act like the world revolves around them while ignoring the other person .

Good afternoon from perfectville. It was a warm sunny 16c today.

Well the kid is on his way! Yippee. He loaded up with Tim Hortons at the airport to feast on the way home.

Got the trailer tucked away for the winter. Put all the stuff back in it we had taken out to try and sell it. I am just as happy it didn't sell as my buddy and I (they have a trailer too) have planned a major CP/CN Rocky Mountain railfan trip for next summer. Should be fun. Glacier, Banff, Jasper and more. The Wives like it up there as well as we go on hikes with the dogs along the line and often will sit on a bluff and watch those monsters grinding their way up to the continental divide.

My favourite 3 Stooges movie when I was a kid was the Hercules one. Had a tiny local theatre that had Saturday afternoon matinees. Cartoons and a couple of movies for $.25, popcorn a dime. The theatre was an old Quonset building WWII surplus. I remember seeing the Elvis and Beatles movies and usually a serial. They use to call you up on stage between movies if it was your birthday and give you stuff. I got called up one year and Mrs. Weimes (the theatre owner) said "how many of you have taken piano lessons from Brents Mom?" A lot of kids put up their hands, I was so embarrassed, but I got more goodies than most for my embarrassment. YesLaugh

I remember when the Batman movie came out, I arrived late and was at the back of the line and was worried I wouldn't get in. They came out and announced that the price for the movie was $.35 instead of the usual $.25. Well, so many kids had to leave because they didn't have the $.35 I moved right up the line.

Found a pic of the joint now long gone.

Well, I had better hop on the Deere and mow an acre, cook dinner for the girls coming in cold from riding their assigned steeds and then head in to Vancouver to pick up the kid.

All the best to all.

The Three Stooges Meet Hurcules. 1962 With Curly Joe Derita ( replacing Joe Besser, who replaced Shemp who died of a Heart attack in 1955, who replaced Curly after Curly had a stroke in 1946 ( he died in 1952.)) Joe Besser left to persue other options after Columbia Pictures stopped making short subjects. Joe Besser died in 1988. Joe Derita ( Curly Joe) died in 1993.

Three Stooges Meet Hurcules was part of their resurgence thanks to poplarity of their original short subjects being released to TV. It was directed by Moe's Son-In-law. Norman Maurer.

Shemp was the original third stooge before they left Ted Healy and MGM and went out on their own.

Moe, Shemp and Curly (Jerome) were brothers.

Now you know more about the Three Stooges than you wnated to know.
