Folks, let's stay away from talking politics, even in generalities.
I will take a slice of that pizza pie, though. Yum!
--Steven Otte, Model Railroader senior associate editorsotte@kalmbach.com
Good morning from the pleasant but soon to be monsooned West Coast.
Well, I have mentioned I really increased my workout time over the last three weeks and have been feeling great. I did, however, tweak a muscle so took three days off, went out for a roast leg of lamb with a bottle of wine to console myself and then ate a huge pizza the next night. Whamo! an instant three pounds. That's 10,500 calories I need to now burn off. That's thirteen hours on the bike! It takes a while for the body to adjust to changes in consumption or activity level. Oh well, three pounds is easier than thirty.
Our Daughter is giving us details and photo's of her Universities tours in Ontario and Quebec, gotta love modern technology.
My son has gone and bought a bike as he is losing his movie star eight pack. Last year he was on the ninth floor of residence and took the stairs every time with his backpack full of books. Now he is in a house and even though he walks the 3km each way to school and back, it isn't enough. He has also cut out the beer. Both his Mother and I are good at doing what needs to be done so I am not worried about him at all. I would not be surprised to see him transfer back here next year for school as he is finally noticing the difference in the weather and the bugs. We don't have insects flying around out here on the coast trying to eat you at every oppourtunity and the weather is certainly more stable and mild.
Wife is at another dog show for four days, I told her to make sure they get all the dog hair out of there as our biggest train show is up next for the joint.
TF, sorry you got hit by the flu. I need to go get my flu shot, we get them for free and still last year I didn't get mine, I got lucky and didn't get sick. The only other year I missed was about twenty years ago and I got pneumonia out of the deal. I actually took time off work and when I went back they made me go home again.
Ulrich, I am well aware of the situation in Germany and similar situations elsewhere and can only say that people need to get out and vote and things will stabilize. Throughout history, if people used facts and rational thinking instead of uninformed emotion to make decisions, the world would be in a much more advanced place. Nothing like education to get a clear understanding of things, unfortunately very few are interested in learning and/or being engaged in what is happening to them.
Ken, glad to see your wife is making progress. Once she has healed up somewhat and gets her muscle tone back, she will realize it doesn't hurt to be active with the new part and will be even more active than before the surgery. At least that has been my observation of those around me that have gone through it. Did they mention water running? That is a big part of rehab they use up here.
I think the Royal Hudson will be here by February
Well, the trailer is ready to sell, so I best get going on posting ads. We hope to get $12,000.00 for it. Similar ones on the retail lots are listed for $16 to $18 thousand, we will see as ours needs repairs.
Time to hit the shower (now I have stopped sweating), have lunch and get to it.
All the best to all.

I've been out of commission this week as I came down with the flu late Monday night.
First of all I'm so sorry to hear about your sister, Ray. My thoughts and best wishes to you and your family during this hard time.
Alrich it sounds like it's getting really bad over there. I was very hopeful it wouldn't. Thoughts and prayers going out to you and your family as well.
JaBear good to see you back, you were missed. It appears Ed's lure worked. I never knew Amtrak had a Bear Complex.
Morning diners,
Ray, thoughts and prayers.
Ulrich, the same, hopefully things will get better or an opportunity will present itself.
Top of page drinks are on me.

I’ll add my thoughts and best wishes to your sister, Ray, though, and I’ll apologise if I’m mistaken, wasn’t she the one that travelled until recently?
Thanks Bear, no the one who travels all over the world is the one in Canandaigua. In fact, she will be gone on one of her trips in another week. The Rev. is the oldest of us three and other than being a missionary in Taiwan for a couple years, has never done much traveling although she has lived in several different locations in the US (NY, Indianna, and Florida to name a few....). No word yet on anything, BTW.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Evenin' folks!
Janie, I could use a cup of decaf at the moment, please and thank you.
Thanks very much for the good thoughts, prayers, and kind words for my family. We are still playing the waiting game. Haven't heard anything new today. Just got off the phone with my sister in Canandaigua and she is doing fine but is very sad about the whole thing. She reminded me that after Jan passes that leaves just two of us to keep the younger generation in line! LOL
Ken, good to hear your wife is making some progress!

Today was some what better with the wife. Had a new theropist today named Kelly. We both liked her. She got Sue to understand that she has to strech the muscle's to get them to stop hurting. She was a lot better after she did the same exericses that sent her off the deep end yesterday.
She got off the bed twices today with out help! She was very shakie but with no help!
Ed Thanks for the offer on the Turbo Train! I was hot for them when they first came out but after the feed back I read, I said No Thank You.

Afternoon folks,
Ray, my condolences and prayers.
I found a Ford Mass Air kit for 351Ws backed by E4od transmissions, it's 800 bucks, so it's a lot but better than 1500, to work I go!
I saw some 351w Marine Headers, whoooeee, they look so much cooler than automotive ones, but they're water jacketed so they won't work in a truck, I found some automotive headers that have a similar look.
I'm also looking at getting some "flareside" running boards, and eventually I'm going to get the truck repainted the stock blue/green color and then get some dark blue racing stripes with sky blue pinstripes.
I gotta get to work to pay for all this.
Morning All!
My condolences to you and your family as well, Ray.
Hobby Front: I think I have the track plan finally figured out for the new layout, although I will have to build a short (about 4-5") extension to accomodate a tail track for the car ferry yard. I originally had thought about putting another turnout to connect to tail to the mainline, but decided I didn't like the idea of a turnout on a removable shelf so I settled on a 22" curve and a 6" straight for the tail.
On the subject of curves, I need to watch what I'm doing with curves. Somehow, I ended up with a 15" R curve in my track that I had pulled from the old layout. The corner in question was supposed to be all 22" R. The only reason I caught it was the track was damaged and I decided to replace it. (That radius was supposed to have been in the storage tote for what was planned to be an expansion if I ever got a large enough area.) The problem was fixed to the tune of about a half an hour or so. (Recutting some sheet cork and reattaching the cork roadbed edge.)
I still need to trim and attach some flex track for the connection of the car ferry yard to the yard and a runaround track for the team track yard. Once that's done I think I've got all the track laid.
Slowly but surely, it will get done.
So sorry to hear about your sister, Ray. You (and she) are in our thoughts.
Arrr! Avast, ye lubbers! It be Talk Like A Pirate Day. Belly up to the barrrrrrr and have some rum balls!
Good morning ....
Ray....... I'm sad to hear your news . Condolences and prayers to you and your family.
Ken ... I know your wife's exercises will hurt. I hope she can do all of it.
Ed .... The Turbo train looks good .
I'm continuing with a lot of dental appointments. Yesterday, I had two teeth extracted. I did not use the pain medicine he prescribed for me to take at home afterwards. I would rather feel the pain than get loony on a drug.
Cheers !
Ray thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

gmpullman on Flickr Did you know that Amtrak has a BEAR Complex?
Did you know that Amtrak has a BEAR Complex?
Morning folks!
Late night here in the bayou state.
My heavy flat is finally in interchange service on the MSMRC!
Nate the club was hating on my truck today, so I did what every responsible, mature, adult man would do... challenge him to a drag race!
It's scheduled for after I get the 351w into it, I'll beat him with cubic inches, he's got a modular 5.4L (so like 327 ci) and the 351 is 5.8L. He drives a stock Mercury Grand Marquis.
Called the boys in blue up in Dearborn at Fords SVO group, wait no they're "Ford Performance" now not Special Vehicles Outfit.
Got some great advice on my truck.
Back to trains, seems somebody opened a non sanctioned Instagram account for the club, my money is on Nate, why? Well because last business meeting I suggested we open an instagram account, no one else thought it was worth doing so I said forget it. Well the first thing Ben said to me today was "did you open an instagram for the club?" I told him I wouldn't without Casey's permission which I never got. So I figure Nate is trying to frame me, which he's done before during op sessions and stuff.
Enough said.
Well funny story for today, I was talking to my friend Sarah, I had thanked her for some wardrobe advice for the Fall Art Crawl, well she said and I quote "NP my dude" now the funny thing is I've been called Dude, Bro, Fam, Man, ect... but never any of those in the possessive tense. I was like what gives with the possessives all the sudden?!
I know it's probably nothing but it gave me a good chuckle.
So I asked a girl for her number the other day, I've been talking to her when I see her for a while and she seems interested, so I finally asked her number, she gave it to me and said to text her, which I did, but I haven't gotten a response in a few days so I'm thinking I punched the number in wrong, I'll see her again in a few days and rectify the situation.
I know someone was telling me to not get into a "serious" relationship at my age, I completely agree, I'm merely testing the waters, getting a feel for it, learning the curve so to speak. Which is important because I need experience because my social skills can sometimes be, well, lack luster.
Well that's all from me, I've got work in the morning and it's 1am, or way past my bedtime.
Goodnight all!
