maxman It should also be pointed out that if you happen to not like meatloaf and not say anything, you will be served meatloaf for the rest of your life.

I like meatloaf. Especially the way my mom made it when I was a kid: with onions and green peppers and red peppers and garlic and diced up celery and whatnot . . .
I also like donuts. Friday is donut day at the office. There is one guy who is always the first one in the break room picking up each and every donut before choosing one for himself. That is very annoying. And a little gross. Pass.

The restraint exhibited by you old timers is admirable.
Tinplate ToddlerLet´s go easy with our eager pup wolf Steven - just remember it isn´t easy for a young one to howl with the old wolves!
True, but everyone knows what happens if the young wolf's howling gets out of line. Sometimes some not so gentle direction is required.

EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
Morning all.
So, Ky and Tn this month. Ok. I can go for that.
Next month, Vermont for the leaves, should be good. Possibly near peak color time. I like that idea Steve O.
November in the Great Lakes could be interesting, as the weather could be nice, or not so nice....
Ken - Hope the leaking AC is fixed, and hoping the best for the health issues.
Got a pleasant surprise, as I recently won a bay item I figured I would be way outbid on. Seems that this one slipped through everyone's radar, so I just ended up with a group of 3-bay coal hoppers for $9 a car. Not bad. (I went with a max bid of $10 per car, counting shipping. There were several sets, and the others all went way higher, so I expected to miss this one as well.)
Add in the decals needed for the repaint, and I will have $12 per car in expenses, plus the miniscule amount for black craft paint, (I airbrush basic colors with craft paint thinned properly with the correct agents.) and the already on-hand metal wheelsets and Kadee's, and I will have another set of hoppers ready to load. (This group will represent the new[er] rebuilt cars floating around the NS system.)
W*^k front - Decent day yesterday at the new j*b, hitting a spiff and having a decent commission for the day. The not so fun part was that the phone line was down, so, the security and fire alarms kept malfunctioning, as they couldn't communicate with their respective monitoring offices... So, that got annoying real quick! (Nothing like setting off a burglar alarm unintentionally while customers are on the salesfloor!)
Car - Did rear brakes and rotors, and now I have a "dust shield" rubbing now.... Grr...
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

Greetings from Western KY
Since we were supposed too be in all of TN and KY here is a picture in Paducah of steam sometime in the 1960's or 70;s juding by the phone booth on the left side of picture
This is the Jackson street overpass of the P&I ( Paducah and Illinois, a joint owned 16 mile RR owned by IC ( now CN) the CB&Q( Now BNSF) and P&L)
This area sure has changed.
A picture of the Illinios Central Hospital in Paducah KY unde contruction in 1919. This building still stands about 20 blocks from me. It is now known as the Katterjohn Building but now stands empty and in dissrepair.
Morning Folks!
Well I guess I should've made my intentions public, my bad.
Bear, what was wrong with the RIP track? I copied it directly from Ulrichs version.
Well I'll be around!
The riverboat tour as when we were in the deep south has been scheduled.
Please keep posting the pictures!
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Good morning.
Regarding this months destination..... We said Tennessee and Kentucky .... We did not say Appalacia. .... There plenty of railroad sites throughout TN and KY.... ...
We should be talking about all of TN and KY as was discssed previoisly.
Regarding who starts the thread.... Of course it is good to volunteer to do that, but talk about it before hand..... The person doing it should have already let it be known they will do it. ... Perhaps, Ulrich was already spending his time with starting the new thread. he wasted his time because Steven NWP SWP did not let anybody know ahead of time of his intentions. ... Common courtesy should have been exercised.
Brent .... If you ever get to Nashville with your wife, let me know.... I am about 100 miles northwest of Nashville.
Ed .... Your photos look great.
So..... Here is a photo I took in Nashville, TN....... It is not Appalacia. It is, however, in Tennessee which is consistant with previous discussions.
Nashville is a hub of CSX. Big trains roll through downtown. There is a large freight yard south of downtown. The large building was Union Station, but now it is an upscale hotel and restaurant.
Here is another view from the bridge over the tracks. 6410 is a GP40-2 working with a road slug (not in photo ) hauling a MOW train. .
I'm tired this morning. I wish I didn't have to go to work. Saturdays are usually elective.... not today. When I tell someone I'm coming to work the day before that's what I do.
I just remembered I have to put my new plates on my truck this morning. They are due today. The funny thing is I've had them for two weeks, I never got around to it . I heard there's no more grace period. When they're expired they're expired and that's it.
Have a great day all
Perfect I think that's your secret. We all need to learn to relax. That is what I am learning to do with the help of my dear sweet Judy.
Not so much anymore because I've mellowed out. She was telling me for years you need to settle down and breathe baby or you will have a heart attack before your 60.
I did listen to my Judy. I don't throw the first stone anymore. Nobody throws a stone at me. My blood pressure is way down. I think I'm finally starting to tame down my high strung tendencies and I must say I'm liking this calm life better
PS I still do on occasion erupt a little bit Thats the Scot in me. It never goes completely away.
Happy times!

So well said Ulrich. So well said it put a chuckle in my gullet. I'm a high-strung sometimes hot-headed scot. Never as calm or even keeled as the likes of you.
I never understood. I don't even know how you do it.
Honesty I'm ready to go in punching when you're just always walking away smiling. Just don't know how do you do it.
You are good people. Thank you for making me think sometimes
BATMANSo in addition to RR pic's of the surrounding territory we are currently in, may I suggest members post their favourite fall railroad photo's to boost up the photo count in the diner. After all, we all love photos.
Agreed!

Tinplate ToddlerLet´s follow down the path of the old L&N RR and see some pictures of that grand old railroad!

Evening All! (at least in my neck of the woods.)
Ordered a few more parts. (Coach floor and a smokestack.)
Planning to play on the new layout on Monday. (My normal dinner spot is closed so I will probably end up ordering a pizza.) For once, I don't have to worry about what time it is. Got the templates for cutting the yard road and probably will get the passenger platform expansion almost finished as well. (I still need to get one more platform package to have enough Atlas benches. I set up the benches back to back for the tourist road and will reuse the platforms.)
JaBear You're Just JaBear..... No room for Improvement as far as I'm concerned.
Don't ever get rid of those Forum funnies TF likes.
I will have a beer with you anytime. Wish I could.....

Heartland Division CB&Q Brent. ... that’s a good suggestion about waiting until midnight. I recall some times when Diners decided ahead of time who would open the new month. individuals would volunteer to do it before the month started. Not many would volunteer and it was easy to decide. Volunteers could easily agree to take turns. Then there would be no surprises.

You're supposed to reply YEA
I was posting when you were posting. I like that picture Brent.
I love fall favorite time of the year.
gmpullman Track fiddler While he was sleeping you posted still on the 31st. Be on a hurry on your own time. The man has unbridled enthusiasm. Track fiddler Ulrich has been setting us up for the Trackside Diner for years and us old guys like it. There was a time when Ulrich was on hiatus for almost a year. Somehow we muddled through in his absense. Any number of us are capable of copy/pasting the new Diner location. Steven has taken the reins. Last month we were in Alaska and I dont think there were more than a half-dozen posts with photos, videos or other information about Alaska Railroading. Is it really all that big of a deal? Tempest in a teapot in this old man's analysis... Thanks for opening the new Diner, Steven. Cheers, Ed

Thanks for opening the new Diner, Steven.
I don't remember much Alaska crap either. I remember a little.
Remember on Ulrich's birthday in Alaska when we all went out to get some air. He went out the second floor balcony and warned us Lookout Lookout polar bear. And we all got our asses back inside before the polar bear ate one of us.
Unless you want to argue with me I think that's the best Alaska was
Bear, I have been thinking it is Saturday all day today. The thought of getting older scares me if I am a day ahead at 61.
Steven, you are now the concierge of this months tour and I see we pass by the Mississippi, so I would like to take a side trip and go on a cruise up said river for 3-5 nights on an old steam paddle wheeler so please arrange it.
I always consider September 1, the beginning of fall and the leaves are well on their way this year in my neck of the woods. So in addition to RR pic's of the surrounding territory we are currently in, may I suggest members post their favourite fall railroad photo's to boost up the photo count in the diner. After all, we all love photos.
I will start. Many years back one of our forum members posted a fall photo he took in the Canadian Rockies near Banff. His name is Matthew Hicks and is a Professional Photographer. I scooped it off the forum and make it my computer wallpaper every fall. Matthew has awesome rail picks on the internet that are just stunning so check them out.
So show your fall rail pic's.

Always in the fridge Help yourself
BATMANWe could have bear do as it is already Sunday afternoon in New Zealand as I type. Though, I suspect he is like me and could care less who opens it up just as long as the beer is cold when we come in.
And that the RIP Track is reposted properly !!!!
I don't care less who opens the Diner, and when, but then I'm not concerned about how quickly my post count grows!
Actually Brent, it's 1610 hrs, Saturday 1/9/18.
Now where's that Cold Beer? Especially necessary as Springs almost here!!!
NWP SWP Brent, I agree that the diner should wait till midnight, also we should consider allowing someone else to do it each month, I've posted it twice consecutively I should let someone else have a go next month, the problem becomes say Ulrich opens the diner every month at midnight his time, we're all 4-7 hours behind him here in North America. Point is, POST AT MIDNIGHT YOUR TIME, and TRY NOT TO POST MORE THAN TWICE IN A ROW. I typed in all caps to emphasize the point not to yell. See you all tomorrow! Same Bat-Time; Same Bat-Channel! Badda Badda Badda Badda Badda Bump, BATMAN! Yeah I know of which you speak so, riddle me this Batman, how can a man drown but not get wet?!

Are you kidding me...... the key word is Kid. Must be a little forgiving I guess..... right now not so much
gmpullmanMaybe I'll have Pullman-ary edema?
Make that two! No ice.
Quicksand, I was watching Batman when your Dad was still in diapers.
NWP SWPriddle me this Batman, how can a man drown but not get wet?!
My dad died of congestive heart failure. Essentially his organs filled with fluid that his kidneys couldnt cope with, pulmonary edema.
Maybe I'll have Pullman-ary edema?
Does that count?
Happy September — Ed
YEA I have more to say but I won't
PS Same Bat-Time Place. Same Batman Time
Here are my thoughts on opening the diner.
A few years ago we had three or four guys that would always try and beat each other out on opening the joint up. It got to the point where it was opening earlier and earlier and squabbles broke out and people got their noses out of joint.
Now I don't care who opens up the Diner but I suggest it not be done until it is midnight in whatever timezone you lurk.
We could have Bear do as it is already Sunday afternoon in New Zealand as I type. Though, I suspect he is like me and could care less who opens it up just as long as the beer is cold when we come in.
So take a pill and whoever shows up after midnight turns the lights on. I remember times when it was well into the next day before someone got around to it.
So all in favour of the after midnight rule say YEA! all opposed say NAY! voting closes at the same BAT time tomorrow.
