Afternoon guys,
Well I'm patiently waiting for my paycheck to clear so that I can spend it on trains.
I finally got a straight answer on the dimensions of that check valve I want to use as a load, it's 1.5" by 4.25" that's including the ummm I don't know the term but let's say the barbs.
So I figure it'll be just almost too wide.
I've gotta pay for that, the F45, SDP45, the flat car, supplies to do those projects and the parts for another coal gon.
Steve
If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough!
Afternoon Folks
Flo, the gang and I will have a and give Ulich The Love Bug, Rick and Steven what they like.
Anyone that got a chuckel from my wife thorote wart can PM me so I can send you my address to help with the $45.00 co-pay. Ok, it was funny Lion and does seem like a strange places for her to get a wart.
Ed Thank you for posting the link about Henery Erwin. I know about White Phosphourus. I used to handle white phosphours rounds and knew it was nasy stuff. We where even trained in removing the white phosphours from wounds. Had to dig it out with a knife while it was still burning.
VA Health Front. Seems my foot ulicher is pretty much heald. No skin graft today and only a bandaid on the ulicher! Get new Diabetic shoes Friday and hope this will be over for a while.
Later, Ken

Good afternoon from smokelessland. YES! Even though there are 483 fires still burning in the Province the wind has turned and we are getting a fresh breeze off the Pacific.
Garry, I forgot to mention that the photo of the caboose in the heavens gave me a good laugh first thing in the morning the other day, thanks for posting.
Ken, that man is truly a hero, thanks for posting the video. I wonder how many acts of such bravery pass into history known by few or none. I often wonder how I would perform under such conditions, I hope I never have to find out. A couple of nasty car accidents and industrial injuries that resulted in bad breaks of bones and some leakage of the red stuff is all I have had to deal with. Kinda like a bad day at the hockey arena, so no biggie.
Steven, don't forget to put 20% of everything you make away for retirement. The formula that you read about in many personal finance books is, spend 10% on yourself(that means trains) 20% on retirement savings and 70% on living expenses. The 70% determines if you are living within your means or not. If you live at home and don't need to use 70% for living expenses, then you put that towards saving for a house down the road. On one of those TV home reno shows, they said that average maintenance cost for a home were about $1.00 per sqft per year. The wife figures that is pretty accurate.
Track Fiddler, I am not in the trades so have no idea, but, is that drain pipe next to the panel box "code"? Especially with the cleanout right there I just had to ask.
I hope Hawaii doesn't get nailed too hard by the Typhoon, I have probably been there somewhere between 30 and 40 times as it was a short hop and a quick getaway from Vancouver. Many a time I just got on a plane and went, renting a jeep at the airport and finding accommodation as well after I got there. We had direct flights to Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii I didn't care where I ended up, it is all good.
It just boggles my mind when I see people lining up for gas and trying to buy bottled water when these things occur. I have about 300 litres of water on hand in those big blue camping jugs that get changed every four months, freeze-dried rations, enough for two weeks for the four of us, lots of canned food, batteries, generator and anything else we could need. I also keep the 280 litre water tank in the trailer full in the warmer months, but can't do that in the winter. The trailers propane tanks are always full. We can cook for weeks with those. I also have a little white gas stove I would use for backpacking trips.
Why do people line up at the last minute to buy all this stuff when they often have a weeks warning.
We are long overdue for a big earthquake. My Brother-in-law ( don't get me started on this guy) finally bought a decent generator after finally realizing I was tired of constantly coming to his rescue. He had it hooked up to his Natural Gas coming into the house so he wouldn't have to get off the couch to fill the gas tank. I reminded him that after an earthquake there would be no natural gas in the lines. He changed it back to regular gas. This guy doesn't think things through very often. Venting over.
Ed, those are beautiful loco's you had/have? The kids loved going to ride those when they were young. I remember the Mikado pulling us derailed once. I suggested we just lift it back on the rails and I got a funny look. The guy said it weighed 1600lbs. What do I know?
With all this reaper talk it reminded me of some of the great conversations we have here, on going to the great beyond. We have a large circle of friends and family in our lives. Some of these people are terrified of death while others don't give it a second thought.
I came to the conclusion and many seem to agree with me that those that have lived very full and/or exciting lives don't even think about it, while (the other extreme)those that have stayed in their mother's basement ( I know of a couple of these) their whole lives are terrified of dying. A few of our older family members grew up got a job or career, retired without ever having an interest in anything or doing anything adventurous. They have a real hard time dealing with the subject. Moral of the story, live life to the fullest.
The kid leaves for Ottawa in nine days. Another round of golf and a football game are on the agenda. Sure going to miss him but he has a great life going on and that makes me really happy.
Fall is in the air, time to start putting gardening tools away as I am done with that for another year.
All the best to all.
Brent
"All of the world's problems are the result of the difference between how we think and how the world works."
I don't know that Stephen needs to start saving now, but it is important advice and it won't be too long before he should be doing that.
Ken I am not laughing. Throat warts are not my field and I've never seen one. However it is an HPV infection. That is not rare. It is an acronym for a virus with a long name that includes 200 different viruses. It can be just a wart, or cause Michael Douglas, Farrah Fawcett problems. I would ask you wife's doctor if she can be infectious to you and what happens if the wart doesn't go away on it's own.
More advice for Stephen, you are the only one young enough here to benefit from the vaccine for HPV.
Around here, the grocery store shelves look like Hawaii if 3" of snow is in the forecast. I believe Mormons believe in stocking 3 months of supplies. I've read that in a book by a guy named Andrew Tobias and a friend of mine whose ex-wife was a Mormon explained the boxes of dried food in house that way.
In the US there are also "Preppers" who lay in supplies of food for some sort of political armagedon. I have no idea how many preppers there really are, but there are no shortage of sites on the Internet. Too many Mad Max movies, in my opinion.

Evening,
Brent, yes I'm aware I should be putting money away for retirement. I'm planning to start an investment account and a good sized life insurance policy that way I can pay now and that way its there later, call it a bit premature but I'd rather not worry about it in 30 years.
In my opinion, of course I'm not a tradesman, I wouldn't have routed a vent/drain pipe next to a junction box, or vice versa.
HPV, my parents went back and forth at first but I actually have gotten the vaccine, I think I got the booster too, I've only got a few shots to get before I turn 18 and I'm in the clear.
I actually have to go looking for a new general practioner soon, I'm still going to my pediatrician, I think I'm going to stay in the same physician group, the Our Lady of the Lake medical group, my parents go to a doctor in the Lane Regional Physician group but Lane has a bad track record, OLOL is where you go if you're really sick.
I'm waiting for my paycheck to clear, it'll be tomorrow or Saturday at the latest.
Went to the local small town pharmacy/ice cream bar, I got a milkshake and talked to the girl who recognized me a while back, we finally figured out that we were in the same group in Awana at my old church, no I did not get her number, I will next time I'm in there.
The smoke in the atmosphere has turned the sunset a nice shade of rosé.
Brent, can you see the STEVE up in BC? Also are the aurora borealis regularly visible up there? Just curious, thanks.
No train stuff today.
BATMAN Good afternoon from smokelessland. YES! Even though there are 483 fires still burning in the Province the wind has turned and we are getting a fresh breeze off the Pacific. Brent I just got to tell you I've been quite upset hearing about all the Canadian fires. I hate fires. No fire is good unless controlled and keeping you warm.
As far as building codes with electrical and plumbing I only do out of wall plumbing and electrical as it is legal for me to do.
As far as in-wall Plumbing it is my understanding you cannot have any kind of connection above or alongside an electrical breaker panel. I know what you seen in my pictures provided is Hokie, I thought the same. You would be surprised some of the things I see in these houses I work on.
This particular job the kitchen sink was directly above the electrical panel downstairs. That is the drain pipe in question that you saw.
I don't know..... things get over-looked. Sometimes I think inspectors just look at one floor at a time and don't really think about what's above.
As far as the Grim Reaper thing. I am one of those people that do not give death a second thought.... My Grandfather told me more than once, "Death is just going through another door"..... I believe that.
Thanks, Take care Brent
Good Evening,
Another nice day without too much smoke haze. The smoke we have been getting here is from the BC fires.
Track Fiddler, where do you go fishing in Ontario? I lived 15 miles from the south end of Lake of the Woods for several years. Some great fishing there. I remember once is early June we caught our limit in less than an hour, a total of 25 nice walleye that we took back to the cottage, cleaned and ate them all.
I've been looking at a brass engine that is for sale at Central Hobbies in Vancouver. I've bought from them several times in the past but nothing brass. The loco I'm tempted by is a K5a CN Hudson. They only built 5 of which 2 are still in existence. I saw one at the museum in St. Thomas, Ont. a few years ago. The only loco CN had with 80" drivers. I was told it regularly exceeded 100 mph. when it was in service. I really wonder though if it will go around a 22" radius. I sincerely doubt it so it would be a shelf queen, but a beautiful one.
Not much new here, my wife's birthday is tomorrow so we will be going out to dinner to celebrate.
Steven, great idea to get life insurance when you are young. Also think about a disability policy. I got one when I was 25 and only paid $15 a month for it until I was 65 when it expired. I was often told that the insurer would have loved for me to have cancelled it as they sure weren't making any money on it. Even though I was covered at most places where I worked, there were a few times early in my working career when I was between jobs and also it covered me when I was working for my parents running their hardware store after my father was incapacitated.
Well time for tellie and tea.
CN Charlie
I'm stopping by again.
Yesterday it hit me that summer is over and autumn is here, why? I don't know it just hit me.
Grim Reaper, well here's a little perspective, matter cannot be destroyed, correct? So in theory our mental existence, our being, has to have some form? Some studies have shown that bodies are slightly lighter after death, so again theoretically our being might have matter, so if said matter cannot be destroyed that means there must be a hereafter? Again just a little quasi scientific/religious perspective.
Now I'm not going to get into the specifics of what the "hereafter" might entail, but it's a neat thought nonetheless.
Well I'll be lurking for a little while.
Track fiddlerMy Grandfather told me more than once, "Death is just going through another door"..... I believe that.

Early Morning All!
Computer Front: My computer decided to scare me. It said that it needed to run a diskchk. When I decided to let it run, it took quite awhile to fix everything and I almost thought that the computer wouldn't come back on. Thankfully it did but it gave me quite the scare.
Hobby Front: Four projects showed up in two boxes in the mail. One contained a Con-cor dome-observation car (sans trucks) and an Athearn streamlined coach shell. The other bosx had: Two pair of Athearn passenger trucks, three packages of Atlas passenger platforms, a package of 148 Kadee couplers, and a package of nose lift rings. Two more will be arriving soon: Five coal loads and five left machines remote switch machines.
Lots of work coming up!
Life insurance is to leave money to your wife and kids. Especially if you are the primary breadwinner.
There is no sense paying for insurance now when that scenario might be years away.
There are other uses, like paying estate taxes or avoiding estate taxes by setting up a life insurance trust, but you are millions of dollars away from needing those solutions right now.

Ken ... Good to hear your foot is improving.
Steven NWP SWP... I see some Diners have offered well-intended good advise to you, and I suggest you consider it. ... My 2 cents. ... This hobby is more rewarding if you build models rather than just own models. So, I would enncouarge you to continue with your KCS coal gondolas. You did well with the first one, and you may do even better with the next one. ... Don't be in a hurry to buy too many locomotives. ... Financial advice: You should save a percentage of your income for future needs as others suggest. Make a budget and stick with it. ... I hope you dont mind getting advice like this.
CN Charlie .... I hope your wife has a happy birthday.
Ray ... I've heard that before, and it is still funny. Thanks for sharing it...
Brent ... Glad you liked seeing the photo of the high caboose. ... Sounds like your brother in law has no common sense.... Glad you could take many trips to Hawaii. It is beautiful, but expensive.
Track Fiddler ... That's a very nice enclosure for your electrical box.
Happy Model Railroading.

I do not know about "needs to start saving now", but NOW *is* the time to get into the habbit of saving.
Saving 5% of your net income each week now will make you a millionare by the time you retire. Just keep saving that same 5% week after week.

Nothing mysterious about that. It's because they drain all your blood out.

And yes that explains the corpse weight loss thing.

Good Afternoon,
Henry, the reason for my recommending life insurance now is to protect his insurability at a low rate. The older he is acquiring insurance the higher the cost. I bought a policy when I was 25 and am still paying the same monthly rate now at age 70. When I was 25 I was 10 years away from marriage. Nothing he needs to rush into but just something to be aware of.
We have smoke today from a fire burning in Ontario. Sure hope the showers come on Monday as forecast.

Henery I am surprised you said that? Now a Term Policy could be a wast of money unless the person passes in the time frame of its term. Whole Life is another subject. It bulids cash vaule that the person can borrow against and has a fixed payment. Lets say it is a $1,000,000.00 policy in 30 years it may have a $300,000 cash vaule. Owner could borrow the $300,000.00 cash vaule, not pay it back and there surviers would still recieve $700,000.00 on the policy owners death.
