Hey Railguyho, how long ago was it when you tried to restart div 9? Lin Young and Dave Matheny began working on it this past summer. I know this has been attempted several times in the past and it still remains a daunting task. Most of the modelers in this area are not only uninterested in the NMRA, they seem anti-NMRA. As it stands, the NMRA has nothing to offer them. There are already two clubs in the Kanawha Valley which offer more than the NMRA can.

What are some of the things others have done to reactivate and gain interest in their NMRA division?

There is not enough members of the Nmra in this area to make it go.We tried to start a Southern Illinois Division back in the 70's but there was not enough intrest. I attended Cid Meets for a long time with a friend from Indiana but was not allowed to join the cid. Higher dues and retirement caused me to drop somethings and I felt I got more from MR and rmc subcritions. I did make many friends and learned many modeling skills from atendind CID meets.

It has just been in the last three years. Lin Young knows Jim Hielmen well he is from Ripley WV.I might not be spelling Jims name correctly hielmelmen.If you get a chance give me an e-mail i would be interested in keeping up with your progress getting 9 going.Also the ap chair for div 6 Lin youngs div is the guy who had my golden spike in his file for over a year. so they should remember me.There are alot of people up in this end of the state who if you found away to bring them back togeather could make up a very good diy.The anti nmra feelings run deep here in this part of the state also,like i said give me a e mail i have a large club layout and would be willing to let you use it for a nmra day or something in this area,but you will need to find some new approaches to stir membership up here.Terry.

Joined on a yearly basis in 1962. Attended my first National in 1963, a few others including 50th in Milwaukee. Stopped going to conventions when registration got to $140 with nothing included. If the convention is within 500 miles, I'll attend the train show, but won't bother with the convention. When they started raising dues, decided to become life member. Probably would have dropped out otherwise. After Whit Towers stopped editing the Bulletin, the magazine started going down hill. It's mostly the same ads you see in the other magazines, and the editorial content is only fair. I glance at it, but generally don't find much of interest. MR is much more interesting.

I know that we had a number of NMRA modelers from Southern IL attending our Terre Haute IN and Danvill IN Meet/Shows. You have to live within the CID to be a CID member (we charge no dues), but you could have (and still can) subscribe to the CID Rusty Spike to keep up with meets and activities.
