up831Garry, Frank, Little Tim: Those are some well done construction models. What do you glue them together with?
Jim,
Thank You for the kind words.
As far as above ques. I use Zap-A-Gap Medium CA -+ Some parts are just too tiny for epoxy to really hold them. I'm not a big fan of epoxy anyway. I use it on Pewter, white metal..really all metals, a lot of use of brass in the trucks I build. Use it also on Polyurethane Resin kits. Works great with brass tube together on the Sylvan kits I build because I change the supplied suspension and make My own with A-line wheels/tires so they roll. I used to make fallen flag trucks for some clients I had...some have been together over 30yrs. and have not come apart yet!

Evening Diners,
This day was the worse. Since the clouds were still covering the sun. I decided to walk the dogs again around 12:30-1.
We barely pass the park and Murray decided to go potty. I looked at the nearest cans and decided to go drop it at the nearest house. I opened the lid and heard dogs barking smacking the gate. (It doesn't bother me). I turned my back and the gate completely broke making 5 dogs rushing through around me. Murray ran away to a safe location while I fight for control. While the dogs ran wild around the park and went to the house ringing the doorbell and banging the door. Unfortunately their was no answer even though there was a car.
Afterwards I got Murray and walked back home. There's was nothing else to do. I could have rounded them up back to their house. Which I tried but it didn't work.
Worse Day Ever!!

Heartland Division CB&QTimmy ... I like the power shovel. Where is the operator located ?
In the first picture, just in front of the cable spool, you will see 2 black levers mounted at the base of the shovel pillar. Between the spool and levers you will find the operator's seat. It's a Yellow tractor seat ( steel with holes in it. Very uncomfortable. ) and the clutch and brake peddal's are just below the seat, mounted to the same point the levers are.
In the picture the seat is hard to see because of the angle the picture was taken from.
Rust...... It's a good thing !

Wow, so this is a common practice? Getting rid of your dogs crap, in whatever/whoever garbage can is closest?
Nothing I've seen in my neighbor hood. Dog walkers have baggies, and put them in a larger plastic bag, and take the bags along.

Steven What kind of HO stuff do you want? Besides everything like me! If you like repairing things, or modifying rolling stock I may be able to help. My junk is not as good as Ed's junk but far from complete junk.

Glad to hear everybody is stopping in and in good health...
I'm coming up on 1,000 posts how on the name of model railroading did I manage that???
angelob6660I looked at the nearest cans and decided to go drop it at the nearest house.
You did what?!?
We had a young neighbourhood lady who was in the habit of leaving her dog's droppings in our (often already emptied) garbage cans while on her morning walk with her dog. I can't begin to express how offended I was that she thought it was just fine to force me to have to deal with her dog's excrement. Yes, it was in a bag. I still had to remove that bag from the garbage can so that I could put a new garbage bag into it. I felt totally disrespected! My son solved the problem by attaching a large sign to the garbage can asking her to refrain from dumping her crap on us (in more polite terms than I would have used). Thankfully, she stopped.
I don't have a dog. We did have a wonderful dog but he died. I hated the task of cleaning up after him, and quite frankly when he passed away there was a part of me that was relieved because I didn't have to clean up after him any more.
Put yourself in the shoes of the person who had to deal with your dog's poop. Do you seriously think they were happy to do it? Do you seriously think they wanted more poop to deal with than they already had? Respect your neighbours! Deal with your own dog droppings yourself!!
Sorry for my rant angelob6660, but you have seriously offended my sensibilities.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
After induring a week's worth of sub 10 degree temperatures we were punished with just above freezing temperatures and rain, which froze when it hit the ground. Fortunately not much rain
Thanks to all for the prayers for my wife. She had an allergic reaction with her treatment Monday. They seemed to think that was common enough, gave her more steroids and benadryl and pressed on.
No matter how bad you think your situation is, there people who are worse off. We followed an elderly lady with a walker out to the parking lot. Her steps got progressively shorter until she was just thrusting her hips forward and moving a fraction of an inch, then not moving at all. The walker had wheels and her husband got the message and loaded her on the walker and pushed her to the elevator.
We solved the dog poo problem in my neighborhood by most people leaving it where it drops. Unfortunately my dog finds some of it quite appetizing. I wouldn't want someone elses dog poo in my trashcan.

So one summer we had someone in the neighborhood who had large dogs. They stopped at both the front yard and the back yard on their trek. I could never catch them, I would always shovel the piles out on to the road. It stopped the day I posted signs that I would find out where they lived and I would "go" on their yard.
Well you could always "allow" your dog to leave them a "delivery" on their yard and "accidentally" forget to bag it... or you could take their "gifts" they left you and "return to sender" them on their lawn... if you want to get very vengeful build a catapult or slingshot and shoot the "gifts" at either their car, house, or them when they walk their dog...
The last plan would probably get you evicted...
Just joking!!! I wouldn't do any of those I'd just wait for them to come by my house and chase them with a baseball bat! STILL JOKING!!!
Seriously though, the diplomatic approach would be the best way to go via sign or something else...
Speaking of nuisances... I keep getting calls from unknown numbers and it's not businesses or anything because I don't give out my number and they don't leave voicemails... maybe I should answer and *with strong Italian accent* say "hello Capones nyc pizzaria!" Pause a moment... "is this that no good vinny? Ima warning you, if you don't stay away from my Rosa Ima gonna send my cousin Rocco and his pal Giannini after you!" They would most likely then hang up and never call back...
Well lunch break's over Ciao!!!

You were almost certainly "talking" to a recording. These nuisance calls are run by machines. When you answer, the recording starts to play. But, they make more calls than they have recording machines, so if one isn't available, you get silence.
I've disconnected my land-line phone, and if I don't recognize the caller on my cell, I don't answer. If it's a real call, they'll leave a message. If not, I didn't want to talk to them anyway.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
The only time my trash can is out by the street is on garbage day. If someone wants to add to my trash, I don't care. Better that than a deposit on my driveway.
If you don't want to be bothered cleaning up after your dog, though, you shouldn't have a dog.
Steven I mailed that article today.
These are spam calls you are getting, dialed by robots and frequently answered by a computer offering you 0% interest rate loans on your credit card balance, mortgage or student loan. Then someone with a very strong Indian subcontinent accent. They either say what is your credit card number or my company has been hired my Microsoft and your computer is causing problems on the Internet...
The are now so sophisticated that they can spoof your area code and telephone extension, so you might think it is a neighbor calling you. The Do Not Call List is a government sham that only stops Coca Cola or Apple computer for calling you.
Nothing new on the train front, it's cold down the basement.
NWP SWPI keep getting calls from unknown numbers and it's not businesses or anything because I don't give out my number and they don't leave voicemails...
Robocalls are becoming increasingly sneaky and sophisticated.
4.5 million complaints to US Federal Trade Commission in 2017 about robocalls
Often the call is only a "feeler" to establish if this is an active number. The robot computer may send out a million calls. Five thousand of those may pick-up and say "hello". Bingo, got 'ya. Those five thousand numbers are saved onto an active list, then they will sell and distribute that number.
Often they will mask the caller ID. They can simulate a cell phone number or they can make any location or city the "originating number" even if the call is coming from some third-world country. They can even make the caller ID look like it is a local number. "Orange Box" or VoIP caller ID spoofing.
BigDaddyThe Do Not Call List is a government sham that only stops Coca Cola or Apple computer for calling you.
If you sipped on a Coke any time in the past, you now have a "Business Relationship" with that company, AND their "associated business partners" too. Anyone using one of those "Prefered Shopper" programs and you bought Coke? Boom, they got 'ya. That gives them the right to ignore the do not call list.
I screen EVERY call other than a few numbers I allow on a prefered list stored in my home phone.
Cheers, Ed
I'm not really going to do it, I just thought it'd be funny to share...
BigDaddy, thanks I will tell you when I get it...
Hey all, I'm new around here, but I heard the coffee here was pretty good so I figured I'd swing by.
As a dog owner, I state categorically that there's no excuse for leaving your dog's leavings for someone else to clean up. The only thing worse than that is robo calls.... Those, like dog droppings, are best left in the appropriate trash bin.

When all else fails, wing it!
Speaking of leaving a "gift". From the odor, it seems our neighbors cat is leaving a present in the bushes next to our drive way. My wife, a long time cat owner, think it was because there were a lot of leaves so the cat was treating the ground under some tall bushes as a litter box. We raked it all out and yesterday it seemed like a new gift have been put forth.
Any idea's how to discourage a cat from leaving gifts in the future, aside from death traps that some may suggest?
Rio Grande. The Action Road - Focus 1977-1983
Motion activated sprinklers, or if you have a dog collect some "samples" when the dog does his fire hydrant business and pour that up under the bushes where the cat is visiting...
Afternoon Folks!
Janie, I could use a decaf to warm me up, please...
NWP SWP, Get yourself a "Call Blocker". I use the CPR Call Blocker. They call you once, it is SPAM, you simply bring up the offending #, push "Block Now" and that ends them calling from that #. Of course they will just spoof another # and keep calling. I have considered, turning off my hearing aids and using a can of the Boat Air Horn stuff to let them really know what I think of them..... Don't want to hurt my kitties, or I would actually do that. The Federal "Do NOt Call" listing does work, but only for legitimate companies that actually follow the laws.....
Doggie Doo-do.......... Around these parts if anyone pulls some of the stuff that has been talked about here, they could get slapped with a major fine. Everyone (and there are many) who walk their dogs here carry a baggie with them and transport the "fertilizer" home with them. Everyone, except for my next door neighbor, that is. They are very good when they are out walking the dog, but late at night and some other times they just let him out in the back yard. He, of course doesn't know where the property line is and comes over to my back yard and leaves a nice pile here. I don't even mind that except when I see it just as I step in it.... But hey, I'm an old farm boy and learned very early on that all that stuff washes off quite easily! Besides, we were taught to look where you walk back then....
Been getting some money items done for the MLK Activities coming up next Monday. Took out the prize money for the Art and Poetry Contest, and the $$$ to pay the hired instrumentalists for the choir. I will need to transfer a large amount to our checking to be able to pay the speaker, who is a Nationally known gentleman who has to fly in from South Carolina and will be staying at a hotel for 2 nights plus the honorarium he will be paid..... Our savings acount will be down a bit by next week!
OK.... Back to w*rk! Later!

We have activated an option on our land line where when someone calls the get a greeting that says, "You have reached a number that does not accept solicitations. If you are a solicitor, hang up now and add this number to your do-not-call list. Otherwise, press 1 to be connected." Robo-dialers do not have the intelligence to press "1" so they never get through. We actitivated the feature about a month before the 2016 election and saw the number of unwanted calls drop from 10-12 per day to 1-2 per week.

riogrande5761Any idea's how to discourage a cat from leaving gifts in the future, aside from death traps that some may suggest?
You could try putting a couple of moth balls in a jar with holes in the lid. It deters skunks and may well work for cats.
Apparently what I do for the past 5 years can so offending. I'll won't walk around for 30 to an hour holding at least 4 bags when their is a nearest trash can.
I had a neighbor watched me doing it and he was fine with it. As long it wasn't on the ground.
Angelo, if you have reached an understanding with the homeowner that's great and what you do with your dog's business isn't our business, no angry mobs will be coming after you...
Has anyone ever tried using those clamshell bucket doo diggers? It'd certainly solve the picking up problem, alternatively why aren't there biodegradable business bags that could be whisked into the storm drains? Or is the nature of the doo an environmental hazard?
Let me pause a minute to ask, are we really having a discussion about pet waste???
I'm now officially part of the 1000 post club!!!
I'm surprised Cousin Vinnie hasn't stepped in to tell us this thread has gone down the hopper.
Since my dog has inflammatory bowel disease, it is a daily conversation in my house with vivid descriptions. He is on some expensive medicines, but has break thru episodes. 4 bags an hour? If that would be my dog, I would need a sponge or a wet vac to pick it up.
If you have Verizon, they have an unadvertised call blocker for your land line. You have to go to your account on Verizon.net and manage options and find something called Nomorobo
