Just next years model Angelo. I find it makes less mess cutting off the branches and tucking them in the green bin. If I carry the tree through the house it is a real mess. It only takes a short time to clip the branches off.

Batman, thanks for your words... that is one of the troubles of Aspergers I look normal enough that no one understands the fact there is a disability there...

Interesting fact about the song Under The Boardwalk is that it was the inspiration for the song Innocent Man...

I have CSP SP Vintage West it is a very good video as well as Pentrex SP Cab Forward Collection...

This summer the diner should go to Donner Pass, just a suggestion...

Evening folks, quiet here in the diner tonight, where is everybody???

I hope the fact that I opened the diner this month isn't causing a boycott or something?

Well nothing to report on the modeling front...

Well the weather for Walong, CA tonight is rain with a temp 51° as a high and a low of 48° tommorow is more rain and a high of 54° and a low of 40° well I wouldn't go out on the observation decks with the high wind advisory...

Evenin' Folks

The interweb seems to be acting up in my neck o' the woods.

I keep getting odd "unable to resolve server host" warnings on some sites yet others are working lightning fast?

Not at all, Steven. I think many of us are on Holiday Burnout and we're catching our breath, or is it the mid-January doldrums?

Well, I'm painting some HO Caterpillar D8 crawlers for my ore unloaders then it's off to some other project.

It finally got barely above freezing here for a few hours. Maybe in the 50s by Friday.

Ed, the interwebs are acting up over here to getting weird redirects to "clean your Samsung now" "update samsung cleaner now" "you have won a free gift card" "you have won a smartphone" the list goes on... if I try to back out and get back to the MR website it's just an endless cycle of those scams/virus sites... maybe it has something to do with net neutrality... hopefully it's not a problem on my end...

Evening all....

I will have a piece of Pumpkin pie, with whipped cream..... and a chocolate shake.

No computor issues for me..... but my wife keep's getting "Viagra spam".

Spent the last 3 hour's salvaging pictures I "hurredly" downloaded from Photobucket last july. I put them ALL in one file and they got jumbled together in an awful mess. So I "Ignored" them untill now.

The good new's is I found a LOT of H.O. scale stuff that I thought I lost when I told Photo bucket where they could go..... and just what they could do when they got there !

Anywhooooo.....   It was a "balmy" 72 here at the Demon's Hollow today. Not trying to "rub it in" but the foul weather the rest of the state's are experencing is the reason I moved as far south as I could.

( That and the fact that if/ when the world come's to an end, it's only a 10 minute walk to South America ! )

I would like to post some of the picture's i retrieved but I'm not sure which part of the forum "completed" models should be posted in.

Any suggestion's ?  I wont post them all (300 +) ... just a few of each.

Aw - Heck !  Pumpkin pie for EVERYBODY !

Rust...... It's a good thing !

Evening All! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get a chicken club sandwhich on wheat with some raspberry iced tea? Thank you so much.

As to the popup complaints, I don't know how it works on phones, but for my laptop I have an ad blocker that seems to take care of all of those problems.

Railfanning: This morning as I was getting a few errands done, I finally got to see our local rail repair facility's newest engine. It is a 60+ year old GMD GP9. (For those who don't know that particular designation, that means it is a GP9 that was built in Canada.) I have been putting a pictoral history together for the boss who happens to be a friend of mine and as much into rail history as I am. I just haven't gotten a picture of it in its current paint. I found out later that I should be able to get some good pictures of it next Monday as it is parked in front of the office when the operators go to lunch. (Permission shouldn't be a problem for the above mentioned reason.)

Hobby Front: Got yet another box of stuff this morning: The sheets of cork that were ordered to cover the areas for the yards. Hopefully the weather holds so that I can get the new section of layout built or at least get the deck and the framework cut.

Yep, sure enough. I was in a dilemma about using a crawler machine since these guys get dropped into the ore-hold of the boat. In later years they used rubber-tired Payloaders and you can't find decent models of these in HO.

Lo-and-behold I found an old photo that shows a Cat crawler being hoisted onto the deck of an ore boat! That made my quest for a bucket-loader much easier.

 Hulett_PM53 by Edmund, on Flickr

I'm going to rig one of these into the bucket leg just like the photo shows Big Smile and have the other three sitting on the deck.

Hey, Just saw the photo of your machine, Little Timmy. That thing looks like it should have Fred Flintstone operating it Laugh Nice job!

Neat stuff!

just thought it might've had something to do with some people having lost patience with me..

A couple of people have lost patience with you. So what?!? That is not your fault. You have no control over what others will say. You do have control over how you react to their negativity. Don't let them limit your participation.

The young fellow in our club who has Autism explained to me how he has learned to get along in society despite his challenges. He told me that another friend who also has Autism told him to just be himself. Forget about being worried about what impression you may make on others. You can't control their reactions to you so just be yourself and ignore those who won't respect you. Before his friend offered that advice he (Steven is his name too) was on a downward slope and had pretty much given up on being able to participate in society. Now he is an active member, not only in the model railroad club, but he has tons of friends on the Internet, and he volunteers for both the Fire Department and the Police Department when they have public open houses. He also knows most of the local bus drivers and several of them encourage him to ride along on their routes. Bottom line is that he seems to have developed a lot of self confidence by just being himself.

I'm not trying to preach, nor am I trying to over simplify your situation. I do want to encourage you to be confidant in what you do!

Cheers!!

I'll have one or two of those drinks if you don't mind too.

told him to just be himself.

.

This is the advice that EVERY young person should listen to. Once I stopped trying to be "cool" and just be myself, I had better friends, I was happier, and life worked out well.

Never try to be something you are not. It is a lie and a waste of time.

Good morning ...

Galaxy ... I hope your procedure went well.

Ed and Timmy .... I built one of the WS bulldozers too. Here it is with an old dump truck which is on my "to do list" to rpeair. It's missing some detail parts.

Here is my WS road grader which I put together.

Timmy .... I like the machine in your photo. Do you know how t opost photos in the text body of a post?

Ed .... Your photo is very intersting showing how the lifted  bulldozer into th hold of an ore ship.

Dave ... Good advice to Steven NWP SWP ....

Steven NWP SWP .... Those in the Diner tend not to be too judgemental of others. We can relate to some of your experiences because we were all young people ourselves. I recall being a teen model railroader. Much of what I did back then was very crude, but I had fun then..... I still enjoy the hobby... Relax and have fun.

Like those dozers and road graders.

When I was manager of a movie theater I was approached by an organization about hiring a kid with autism. They told me he loved movies and would be a good worker. I told them I would hire on a trial basis. about a month later they came back to ask how he was doing and I said "he is the best worker I have. " Once he learned the routine he was fine, knew his stuff and was very good at what he did. He was very socially withdrawn at first but one he got into routine and comfortable around people he came out of his shell more. When the ushers would come ask me "can I go on break?" I would ask " did you check the restrooms?" the would turn and go out the door and go check the restrooms. When this guy wanted to go on break he would come and state " everything is ready I checked the restrooms I am going on break" I never had to ask him if they were clean.

Garry,

Alloy Forms has perfect replacement parts for old Ulrich trucks...you just have to clean up the flash some from the metal casting...perfect match for that missing air cleaner......SS LTD controls Alloy Forms now so go to SS LTD.

http://scale-structures.com/af3132

You get six (6) in a package......a lot of those detail parts usually have four or six pieces in them...they don't say that though.......on all of them.

Some one mention construction equipment?

That was YOU snoring in the corner, Frank? I thought I was hearing trucks with their Jake Brakes rumbling by! PS, Glad you like my new avatar Yes

Looks like you're ready to Move Some Earth there, Frank!

I'm glad to see your W-S grader has the same "leaned-back" blade angle, Garry. I thought I did something wrong when I saw mine like that. Seems like it should be more upright like the ones on Frank's LowBoys. I like lots of the offerings from Alloy Forms, too.

Just stopping by for a hot Java to go, Flo. Thanks.

I'll pop in later tonight.

Steven, I'll be gathering some things together for you in the next few days Wink I get busy on other stuff sometimes so it might take a little while.

I hope all you good folks are doing well... Angel for those in need.

Afternoon Diners,

Cloudy with a chance to rain today or tomorrow.

While walking the dogs we stumbled upon a cat next to a tree. The dogs stretched my arms and trying to pull them back. The small kitty slowly came away next to the tree. Walking slowly towards the dogs. My strength is trying so hard to leave the kitty alone so they weren't get scratched. :Long story short: Dogs smelled cat, no chasing or biting. Cat followed us home. Try to let kitty be with other cats in another house. Cat didn't like it. Followed me back home, attached dogs. Called my brother, he took away to the shelter for checking. Sorry no pictures.

Hey all,

First: NWP steven: sometimes the diner is just empty. And if someone got miffed, its THEIR problem,. You opened the diner, so what...the only critique I have as one who formerly opened it a lot along with Ulrich {mainly cause I was up at the hour of MIdnight, east coast}IS...don't open it before midnight the end of month day @ East coast ET ZONE...DON't open it earlier than that though, it confuses too many people. Thta's my only critique. I don't have photobucket, adn refuse to open one jsut to post pics here, so I always openned the diner with the proper words and acknowlegements. SO in short you done good, kid, just past the opening aroudn Midnight EST or EDT. If you do it agian. Other wise, people have lives, and like me may not post all the time adn the diner is empty somedays, not just cause a bunch of people are pissed off over something, though sometimes outrageous banned subjects can cause vacancy for a whiel, Until MR. OTTE gets it cleared up.

GARRY: I believe you are the only one who asked about my surgery. I went in for ONE hernia operation, came out with TWO HERNIA REPAIRS. The doc noticed my belly button had a hernia also, form an old incision for the gallbladder removl, adn here I jsut thought my "inney" had become an "Outey"...but he siad, no its another hernia, I'll fix that too. I was in so much painyesterday thta the morphine adn oxycodoen they game me wasnt working. I was at a 12 out of 10 when I got back to recovery. By the time we left, a 9. Yestaday's nap and last ngiht My OH had to help me into/out of bed I am SO SORE my whole abdomen has been raveged by laproscopic rods and cameras adn such. Also I'm getting older, and I think recovery time form surgeries {that was my 21st, and it trurned into a "set" of surgeries}, the older I get the less tolerable recovery is. I cna, todya, get in/out of bed a certain way with a pain of 9, but sitting resting isa obut a 3-4 now. I have morphine and codeine here too for my back pain, so Im not without help pain wise.

RAY: I'll respond to PM when done here......if I remember, LOL.

ok, O guess thats enogh moaning and groaning...time for a nap.

I think I cna get down into bed but only one certain way, I m,ay have to wait for MY OH to gget home form work to get up again, though, It'll be about time for my afternoon pain med dose then, so I'll be feeling it.'

Take care, prayers to all.

Good morning from the gloriously sunny West Coast, it is 8c and I have all our Christmas lights down. Earlier today I gave the furnace a thorough cleaning. We have an awesome filter system on it and I like to keep it in tip-top shape as it wasn't cheap.

Next on the to-do list is to go through my 300 empty wine bottles that were in the crawl space. I'll keep six dozen and sell or give away the rest. My winemaking days are over, at least to the extent they use to be. I don't drink as much wine as I use to and the wife has gone off it all together as it greatly affects her allergies.

Ed, you are a good guy for shipping off some of your train stuff for people to use. I'll send you my listLaugh

My wife and I usually just give things away as well especially if it is obvious the people could use it. We currently have a love seat in brand new condition to get rid of. It is free and nobody comes to get it, even if they say they want it. My MIL needed it gone in a hurry so we took it to help her out with her space problem and we still have it.Tongue Tied

Frank, glad to see you posting more truck photo's, I enjoy seeing them.

At the multi-sheet hockey facility, we use, we have some autistic people helping out. They are a great asset to the arena and can repair a skate or helmet or anything else in a flash. They help keep the facility neat and tidy and well organized.

We also have full medical facilities at the place with Doctors on duty as well as physiotherapist.

Once in a rather competitive tournament we were hosting, we had two injuries happen at the same time and while another coach and myself were trying to patch them both up so they could get back out on the ice, a third kid took a puck to the face and was leaking at a good rate. This young autistic kid jumped in and said "I got this one" Holding a towel to the players head he walked him down to the clinic for stitches. He then came back and cleaned the blood off the players helmet and gloves and handed them to the kid when he came back from getting stitched up.

There is an old saying that goes something like this.

"We can't all do everything, but all of us can do something"

On to the wine bottles!

All the best to all.

Afternoon diners, I'm glad to hear that no one's boycotting the diner, I noticed as the holidays neared tempers were flaring a bit more than usual, guess it's a stressful time of year...

Ed, I am patiently awaiting your package, no need to rush, and thank you again...

Two neuro typical PITRs replied to my thread after I asked if a lot of old locomotives on ebay was worth the 20 bucks starting bid... implying I'm crazy and/or insane... which I'm not... I don't think people understand Autism and in my case aspergers doesn't make me crazy I just think and act differently... anyways drinks are on me!

Good afternoon Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.  And set up an extra IV for Galaxy!

Galaxy:  Glad to see you're in recovery.  Take care of yourself.  Good to see your post.

Garry, Frank, Little Tim:  Those are some well done construction models.  What do you glue them together with?

Just looking at some plans and things to see if I could maybe get a small project done this year.  Dunno!

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Why, YES !    Yes I do.....

This is a Marion Power Shovel. I forget who makes the kit. All metal with scale size rigging I scavanged from one of my ship kit's.

I used 5 min. 2 part Epoxie to assemble it.

This was built for one of my customer's And He didn't want the track's Rusty / Crusty so that's why this one is so clean.

Good evening...

Busy Diner today. The kitchen staff can hardly keep up .

Timmy ... I like the power shovel. Where is the operator located ? Your models are great. You may wish to show them in Weekend Photo Fun.

Frank ... Thanks for the info about parts for the dump truck. I may look for mirrors and horns too.

Jimmy .... Your loco project is looking great. I know what you mean about stripe decals. It can get very frustrating.

Ed ... I watched the video you posted. Intersting contrast between the clean Santa Fe locomotives and the grimey Southern Pacific locomotives.

Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get an apple pie milkshake this evening? Hmm... Don't remember how to make that? Take 1 can applesauce, some cinnamon and vanilla ice cream and mix. Thank you so much.

Jimmy_Braum: I perfectly understand your headaches with stripes. My passenger trains use lots of stripes. Putting a 2" HO scale stripe on a corrugated passenger car side is not fun.

Hobby Front: Finally got the expansion pieces cut, assembled and attached.

The process of building it was greatly simplfied by the fact that Dad has an old radial arm saw. (I wouldn't be surprised if it is older than I am. Still works very well however. Ripping plywood would be a challenge without it.) I didn't get the plywood for the top ripped exactly straight as you can tell by looking at the lower left corner. The sides are some #2 1x4 pine that Mom helped me get to my apartment and then later out to the ranch.
This is before I got the cork installed for the yard and the overhang cut.

This has the cork sheet installed. I used a piece of regular track bedding to get the slope on the road side and then butted the edge of the cork sheet to that to cover the rest of the top. (The sheet was purchased from a seller on eBay. It was a piece of 1' x 4' sheet 3/16" thick and was trimmed down on the far end. I also purchased 5 2' x 4' sheets for the planned rail yard) The transition will hide underneath the mainline track. The piece of track is from the mass quantity of straight track that I had found via facebook. I use pieces of shingle for my roads. I didn't get a chance to trim the shingle to the right width and it was a little cold to try to glue it down anyway. (The shingles are pieces that I collected quite a few years ago when my (now late) grandparents had their roof reshingled. The pieces I have were leftovers. I collected them as they looked like gravel road to me and have kept them ever since.) The next step once I get the road put in will be to get the car shop floor installed and then connect the three pieces of flex track to the 3-way turnout and get the two machines connected and wired up to the control boxes and eventually get a capacitor discharge unit wired in to power the machines.
