Speaking of remodeling, buildings and such, has anybody heard from YGW ?

Wondering how his train garage is going.  Hopefully his heart problems didn't get the best of him!

No way do I want to have exposed 120 on each end of the lights when I have to change them out.

It is only on 1 tombstone and not both ends the oppsoite end from power on these lamps is plastic.  The 120 is way up in the one tombstone on the fixture. I replaced one set with the "remove the ballast" types and they are fine.  My other work lights are new LED fixtures.

That ballast puts out a bigger blast than having a 120V line going to the tombstone. Like touching a magneto wire with bare feet in wet grass (done that, too Dunce! )

I was at work and reached up without looking and found out real fast that the plastic housing was broken on a fluorescent lampholder. Well, that little brass tab made contact with my finger and gave me a jolt like I'll never forget. My arm was sore for a week!

I have converted a bunch of my 48" fixtures around here to LED tubes. I love 'em!

Even the ones that I first installed electronic ballasts in, I still heard that 60Hz hum. (low ceilings in basement) the LEDs are dead silent.

The brass contact in the tombstone isn't any more dangerous than the brass contact inside a regular base plug outlet and you have those all over the house.

Cheers, Ed

 Eveing Diners

Flo, Kevin, Ed, Gary, Brent, Jan, Anglob, Inch, Galaxy, Ray, Mr B and I will have a Beer with some Liver And Onions and give SteveO, Steven and Rick a warm apple cider. Leave a stein outside for Ulrich as well!.

Steven Sorry you ran into some Trolls here at the site! I had more than my fair share when started. One told me I was a idiot for buying used engines off E-Bay. My answer was if I buy new I need to know how to fix them when they ware out. After all, would a sane person buy a new car and pull the motor out so they could lean how to rebulid a engine? Hum, well maybe I would? Whistling You do have friends in the dinner you can count on!

Rick Now that is a good sale! Be like me up grading a person that wanted to spend $400.00 to a $800.00 deal.

Ed Thanks for your feed back. Reason I would like a Pargon II or III is because of the recording fuction. Where you can store when the horn sounds, bell rings, speeds up and down etc. Running the trains right now, but I have to stop miss spelling to blow a horn!

Far as Rolling Thunder I am with you but I like the idea! More than likely it is there subwoofer is there problem. Can you adjust the volume and cross over Frequency. I hate booming base! But I do love a tight base! I have a NHT SA-1 sub amp with 200 watts power and it matching sub woofer. I can control the volume and adjust the cross over frequency. I bet that would be just the ticket!

Ed Does the Rolling Thunder set up use RCA jacks? If so, might be time for a little payback from my end. I happen to have a Harman Kardon EQ that I am not using. Say the word and I will ship it! I have more stereo gear that I will ever use. Guess I need to check the stack of stuff I have stored in the closet.

 Later, Ken

Speaking of new guy's, a big warm to Timmy! I looked at your work on your profile page, impressive! How come you call yourself "Little" Timmy?

Well ...

It all started in high school (1981) I was a "bit" of a hoodlum. I was very good at getting myself, and my friend's into all kind's of trouble.

I had a friend (who shall remain nameless ) who's Father worked with my mother, so he knew about more of my "lawlessness" than the other parent's did.

My friend, his father, and I went on a hunting trip ( over the year's we went on several ) but on that first campout is when his father first called me "LittleTimmy"  It was a reference to the TV show Lassie. The main carecter (other than Lassie ) was LittleTimmy, and he was always getting into trouble ( What's that lassie.... LittleTimmy fell down the well?)

The name spread like "Wildfire" at school and the name stuck!

It has been MANY ... MANY, year's since I have been in trouble .Yet the name remain's.

Rust...... It's a good thing !

FRRY ..... Sounds like you are busy wiring. Glad you are busy with your model railroad.

Not quite yet. Just in the planning stages. I don't even have the section of layout when the turnout will go built yet. (Hopefully it gets built on Tuesday.) Reason being goes to next part of post.

Ricky ... I know what you mean about forgetting what you need when you are at the store. Eventually, you will get the glue.

I have done that too many times to count. Forgotten glue; no screws, carriage bolts, nuts; knife blades, etc. That even includes the occasional need for items to cover and protect slips with tools. Embarrassed Many times I have to leave myself notes in the calendar on my cell phone to remind me to get the needed items. If I think about things enough, however, it does stick in my brain.

Hey all.  I haven't looked into the hypnotherapy before, but I think I'm going to at least read up in it.

I should be going to the Worlds greatest hobby show today, but nope ..they ignored my request, and said they couldn't honor it. So here I am again today- five in a row over the weekend, Thursday through Monday. I'm exhausted. its not me being adverse to work, it's just doing retail over the weekend is draining.

I ordered the stuff to do another Wheeling unit, since the projects have two meanings- fun to do and a good way to de-stress.

Dating-gave up, too many fakes online and in the real world to haha.

Train show I am involved with happens at the end of the month, so there's that I have to look forward to.

Oh wdll, hope everyone has/had a good day today

tomorrow {monday} is my hernia surgery. Say your prayers, should be a BREEZE.

Off next week from work due to that.

AT THE HOTEL NOW, so won't stay long. Morning check outs are busier than check ins at night, and I'm not here by myself, so housekeeping is here.

Thats about it.

PS I wondered what happened to YGW, but I surmised hge either got miffed like Ulrich and left, or more likely got banned. He could not keep religion or guns out of his subject matter. Guess we should all learn if we haven't already.

I'm home from the Frozen North, but I'm still in the Frozen Not-So-Far North.  I was in Maine with my girlfriend.  We had really cold weather all but 2 days.  We walked on the tundra (golf course) a couple of days, and last Wednesday the temperature got up to the 20s so we went downhill skiing at Camden Snow Bowl, an area where you can see the nearby ocean from the top.  Then the big storm hit.  We stocked up on food we could heat up in our room and never went out.

Maine is another place that's nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.  It's really too cold, and, like Cape Cod in Massachusetts, it's great in the summer but once it gets cold, the tourists go home and most of the restaurants close for the winter.

I have not seen Tom of PA here lately also. I don't like seeing friends leave.

I haven't seen Grampy's Trains and Tomikawa TT on the forums lately, either. Grampy had some great PRR photos he would post in the Show Me Something threads.

I don't know if they visited the diner but it is a shame that the ranks are thinning.

It was minus 9 (-23C) when I hit the lower berth this morning. Warmed all the way up to 15°F (-9.4C) today, though. Sure glad I have plenty of fire wood.

I'll stop by later when there might be a few more folks around...

Ed Does the Rolling Thunder set up use RCA jacks? If so, might be time for a little payback from my end.

Yes, the Rolling thunder is a little box about the size of an old Sony cassette Walkman. It has a mono RCA output. I have three different powered subs. I took one of the Sony's that has a three step cut filter and both EQ and gain adjustments and I still don't care for the Thunder sound. I appreciate your offer, Ken but I'm pretty much in the same boat with tons of AV, stereo and photography stuff around.

I wanted to send Steven NWP SWP a PM. Anybody know why there isn't a way to do it when I click on his profile? Does he have it turned off or is it not allowed because of his age?

Good to hear you're doing OK, Jimmy. Starting a new project will help, I hope.

I miss YGW too.  Wonder how his train barn is coming along?

Galaxy good luck with your hernia repair.  Expect to be tired afterwards, even though it doesn't seem like a lot of surgery.  They do a lot of them with scopes and small incisions now so post op pain is nothing too bad.

OH is supposed to have more chemotherapy tomorrow.  The 1st round put her in the hospital twice.  I think the chances of her passing the pre chemo labwork are only 70%.

I too am tired of the cold.  It was 2.5 degrees this am.  That's -16 C for you metric types.  They put way too much salt on our road and it hurts the dog's paws.  We might have more snow tomorrow afternoon.   They hype the storms, like calling it the Cyclone Bomb to get you to watch every news cast.  Then we might see 60 by the end of the week.

Quiet this afternoon here in the Diner. Everyone watching football or on modeling projects?

Flo (or however's handy) could I get some cinnamon French toast, syrup and some OJ? (Yes, it is breakfast, but that sounds good this afternoon.) Thank you some much.

Hobby Front: One of those times where one person's trash is a model railroader's treasure. From work I was able to snage 6 pieces of thin cardboard (what printers call tagboard) that are about 4' long by 4" wide. They were used to separate some backroom signing and one of the bosses was nice enough to let me snag them. (I have also grabbed some foam beadboard pieces at ponts that I thought would be useful.) I haven't decided exactly where they will be used, but I couldn't pass them up.

Evenin' foks!

Galaxy, I sent you a PM....  Oh, and best wishes for your surgery!

Janie, I just need a cup of decaf for the moment and will have a seat in the back by the pot-bellied stove.  It is warming up here in the Finger Lakes Region, with a current temp. of 20°F and by 10AM tomorrow morning will actually be above freezing.  Hoping the snow will melt off the solar panels and they might actually start producing power....

Big Daddy, will be keeping your wife and you in my prayers.  Hope that all will go well with her Chemo....

Have a good one out there, stay warm and dry!

Hey all.  I to miss Ulrich, and the younger than myself members that were/are here... Ah well, I am an "oddball" as the phrase goes.  More SD40-2s for me then. ha.

No major panic attack today, so that was a good thing.  Hopefully my SD40 is here on Tuesday so I can work on it then.

We wrapped up another open house season at the Mid Mon Valley club today, 240 visitors, including a forum member- Ken Mason, and visitors from El Monte Cali, a family from South Carolina- possibly members of the Southern Railway layout in a station taht was in Model Railroader recently, and from Prague Chech Republic.

Got a Wheeling train last night...and yes, it was as cold as it looks in the pic

Now the club prepares for our last event of the season- our train sale and show.  January 28th 2018.

Prayers to those in need.  See ya all

Howdy ...

Henry .... Prayers for Mrs. Henry as she undergoes chemo.

Ed .... That is a remarkable photo of the water tank that fell onto a locomotive. "Grampy" has been missing from this forum as well as the forum across the street for a long time. Sometimes, I have asked if anyone knows where he is, but nobody has replied to me. I never saw him particpating in the Diner.

I finally had some model railroading time after being interrupted for a couple of weeks. Currently, I am installing tracks in my corner which will have my 1900 era buildings and structures.

In this photo, you can see I use push pins to make a "rough draft" of the trackwork. Next, I will get it alligned correctly. Then, I can install with track nails. I'm hoping to start the scenery in a couple of days.

Evening Diners,

Henry- Sorry about your wife.

Garry- Nice process on your railroad.

FRRYKid- It's always nice to find useful junk that nobody whats.

Jimmy- I radder have GP38-2.

For some time I thought of building a small oval of track with simple scenery around my 22 inch T.V. I was going to use my 9_3/4 inch curves and a tunnel in the back, unfortunately the small track plan was to big for the dresser where it sits by 2 inches. I wasn't planning to buy smaller curve radius that might run my 0-6-0T and small 40' cars.

I just need to finish my desert layout that has stopped because of paint.

I tried my hand on dry brushing for the first time. It's was very difficult. Different strokes of paint was too thin or too heavy. Probably doing it outside wasn't a good idea, since it made me want to rush.

Evening diners, haven't stopped in a while... I'll take a warm Apple Fritter, and a glass of warm milk with some sugar...

Ed, I'll send you a friend request so you can PM me... (safeguard against naysayers or "trolls")

Ken, thanks for your comment, I'll send you a friend request too...

I believe someone mentioned panic attacks??? I also suffer from minor ones time to time and also have "background" anxiety in general comes with the whole aspergers/ocd thing...

Didn't someone mention Gordon Lightfoot? I listen to two of his songs the Edmund Fitzgerald, and if you could read my mind...

Here's a tune that might help us warm up!

Well good luck in the cold, glad the rotary stayed on Donner and didn't come here and throw snow all over the diner...

Good "above freezing finally" morning. 38F out here in the wilds of W KY.

Garry: looking good on the layout.

Going to be a mild shakeup at work this morining. I know about it an advance but no one else knows.

It will not be a bad thing, but some will not like it. They promoted our boss to regional manager and promoted my cross cube mate to our manager, bypassing the person who has been here 30 years. The 30 year person however is not manger material and I am glad they bypassed him. Not sure how the rest will take it as this will change our on call schedule again. I am glad for my cube mate I just hope she survives.

Here in northern Virginia, it's supposed to finally get above freezing today which is nice.  High forcast for 40 degrees.  My car is covered with white stuff from the roads when I drove up to Binghamton NY (Owego) to visit my daughter so maybe I'll be able to wash some of that off!

Ricky ... I know what you mean about forgetting what you need when you are at the store. Eventually, you will get the glue.

I generally make a list of what I need...  I sometimes forget to take it with me, and almost always foget to put three or four items that I really need on the list.  Usually remember them right after I get home.....SighWhistling

I know technology is not the answer for everyone, and even as tech-savvy as I like to think I am Wink I still had to be dragged into doing this by the wife... as she likes to remind me, she's always right... Laugh

If you have a smartphone, look for a free app called Our Groceries. It lets you set up multiple named lists (for separate stores, or categories of store like "Groceries" or "Hardware" or "Train Stuff", or for special lists like "Thanksgiving Dinner," or for whatever you want to name your lists). You can put the items on each list into different categories like Dairy or Produce, so you can easily see everything you need from that department while you're in that aisle. These lists are shared, "in the cloud," so you and your wife can both add or delete items from the lists dynamically and the changes will show up on the other's phone (say you get a craving for cheese doodles while the wife is at the store, you can just add it to the list).

In my opinion the best thing about the app is it's Alexa-compatible, so if you have an Amazon Echo like we do, you just say, "Alexa, tell Our Groceries to add milk to the Aldi list," and she'll do it. (Alexa has her own shopping list function, but it's not as versatile.) When we plan out the dinner menu for the week I just stand there with my head in the fridge and yell out ingredients, and Alexa puts them on the list. Big Smile Now we never forget what we went to the store for.

Good afternoon diners!good afternoon Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.  And, set up a round of Beer for Ken and the gang.  Oh, and an IV for Galaxy.  Ginger ale for those too young to buy.  I learned that from a friend in high school.  He said he wasn't too young to drink, just too young to buy.  Go figure.

Hooray!  The brutally cold weather is gone,......for the moment!  I'm sure it'll be back.  Anyway, a break is ways welcome.

Garry:  interesting use of push pins.  I'm sure they work quite well.

Nothing to report MRR wise.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone isOK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good morning it is 1156hrs on the West Coast, 7c in the rain.

Crawlspace is dry so I guess we can breathe a little easier. The restoration company finished Friday and our Crawlspace looks shiny and new. Has been sprayed to prevent any mold that may rear its ugly head.

NWP SWP/Steven, you just hang tough when people are riding you hard on some of these threads. It reminds me of when I would coach kids sports, the kids were having fun and everyone played the same amount of time regardless of skill. Some ( a very few ) parents thought we were playing for the Stanley Cup and thought only the best players on the team should play, especially in close games. Managing twenty kids that ran the spectrum as far as behaviour went was a breeze compared to dealing with some of the parents. When you inform them that you are coaching their kids as a volunteer and try and hand them the clipboard and suggest they are welcome to take over at any time, the ingrates usually come up with a sorry excuse rather than a solution for the shortage of volunteers.

Steven, you have guts for presenting your Aspergers syndrome to the forum and I think people should educate themselves before passing judgment and /or responding the way they do. I wonder if these people would treat you the same if you had a physical condition rather than a mental one. You have a friend here so stick around awhile.

Well, I took the Tree down this morning and tucked it into the green bin.

The Costco Genetically enhanced tree that tells you when it's time.

For those that just can't let go.SighLaugh

The kid got back to the University earlier than expected as the plane was doing well in excess of a 1000kmh all the way. He shared a cab to the University with two others on the same flight so saved there as well. He put $6800.00 in my bank account this morning even though I said we would pay his tuition and board for this term, he would have none of it. I will save it for him and give it back to him when he gets married or buys a house or is short on cash for some reason. It is already in a term deposit and when the market collapses again it is ready to buy up the spoils.

Glad things are starting to warm up for you "Easterners" I don't think my old bones could take livin back there. Thanks for the beer Jim, the next round is on me.

All the best to all.
