SeeYou190 We put on coats at 65 degrees like any inteligent person would do. We close the schools at 45. Thank you.
I kind of knew that. Our son was stationed at Fort Bragg/Pope AFB, Fayettville, NC. We were there during a 10" snow storm. Talk about things shuting down!
I have friends that migrated from WI. to the Port Saint Joe, FL., area, and they are shocked, but, since they are from WI, they can deal with it, as long as the infastructure holds out!

Try using a hair dryer/heat gun on your CPCV/PCV joints. Either apply cleaner/glue cold, then warm up--or--warm up first then clean and glue. I found that by applying cold it gave me a chance to twist the pipe to insure a good spread of glue on the joint. Learned this when building fiberglass boats, I would lay up the glass and resin while the garage was cold, workout the cloth, and then kick the salamander heater on to get the resin to set. (Fumes generated also killed all the mice in the garage-a bonus) Applied the same trick to pvc feed line on the boat when I let the forecastle heater run out of fuel, and froze part of the fresh water line, and had to replace it. At about 25 degrees.

Evening folks! Or perhaps its morning...
Just wrapped up round two of snow duty, camping out in the pickup truck until 0430 when it starts again.
It's easier to take a nap in the truck versus trying to go home and get in bed. Especially when it's only 2-3 hours between runs.
It's a balmy 8* outside, but the winds are 30+ MPH. It's 85* inside my truck

Good morning ....
Today, I am observing my Dad's 100th birthday. He was born in St. Louis, MO, and he passed away in IL when he was 72. Guess from whom I got my interest in trains ..... Here he is on his live steam locomotive which he built in our basement in Illinois.

Little Timmy .... ....
Steve O ... Thanks for doing that because I would noy have noticed Little Timmy
Garry,
One of my Neighbors when I was growing up had live steam in his back yard. My cubscout pack got to ride it on one Saturday. That was the only time I ever got to see it. I should not have been so shy as it was only on the next block but I did not want to bother the man. Mr. Jones was his name.
I always wanted back yard steam. Mr Jones has his own machine shop in his yard as well.
I wonder what happned to it I am sure it has long been scrapped.

Hey Timmy!!!
I'm sure you will fit in just fine. Glad to see that you have decided to make some posts!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Timmy: Douglas, AZ!? I have been in your fair town a number of times. I have ridden in the Cochise County Cycling Classic at least 7 or 8 times. I have enjoyed my time there; it is a nice town. Welcome!
Richard
Hot Dang, page 5! Will this little bug every be squashed?
Good Afternoon,
A sunny, cold day here but then again that is just normal for us at this time of year.
Last night we viewed a programme we had recorded, Tower of Song, that was broadcast on CBC a week ago. It is a tribute to Leonard Cohen. What a great show. Leonard is one of our favourite, well not sure 'singer' applies, but certainly song writer. We saw him perform a couple of times in the '90s. They a several artists perfom his songs including K.D. Lang who was absolutely great.
Well, off to the gym shortly. Need to get in shape or at least something resembling a shape.
Timmy, Welcome!
Garry, That is a great photo of your Dad. What happened to that engine?
Our neighbour installed a high efficiency furnace. The noise of the exhaust is driving us nuts. We will have to see what can be done about it.
CN Charlie
Timmy,
Welcome to the Forum-----
Steven OtteTell us about your model railroading experiences!
Well..... it's been my experience that adding tiny little detail's will drive you mad !!!
Started out with an O scale tinplate layout way back in 1969.
I have built several layouts over the year's, The last was 8X 16 with an attachment that was 8X8. Kind of an L shape. I call my RR The Demon's Hollow & Pacific. It had a Narrow gauge connection I called The Wyler's Gulch and Western. ( I had been reading some old article's about John Allen at the time )
I go absolutely "BONKER'S " over broken and rusty/crusty equippment !
I added a few picture's to my profile page just to give you guy's an idea of what i like.
Thank's for the warm welcome !
RootBeer Float's for Everybody !
Rust...... It's a good thing !
Hey, Garry!
What a great thing to honor your dad like that. Mine would have turned 99 back on December 8th. What a coincidence... here he is on our 1½" scale railroad. We never had the time or money for live steam but, this sure was a nice ride anyway

The engine came from a guy in Galesburg, Ill. back in 1986.

Here we are on the day I brought the engine home: L to R Neighbor boy, younger son, John, mom Jeane and... yours truly.
Sure was fun stuff! We had quite a few places to operate the locomotive here in N.E. Ohio. at least five big "layouts"
Well, I'm headed back out to shave another few inches of s**w off the road. Didn't get over 5° F around here.
Timmy!
Cheers, everybody!
Afternoon Diners.

Welcome Little Tim to the Dinner. With your name being Little Tim I don't know your age so I did not offer you a
Have not posted for a few days, just have not been up to it. Lot of none MRR on my mind.
Gary Good to see the photo of your Dad and the live steam engine.
Ed Same with your Dad and family.
Hum, Ed when did you happen to buy the Bessemer SD 7 from BLI outlet store? I saw a Bessemer SD 7 a few weeks ago at there outlet store. I wanted to waite till I got another check before I bought. In my mind I said "besides Ed and I who would want a Bessemer engine?" Yep,went to pull the trigger and it was gone!
Do you like it better than the Walthers Proto 2000's? While the Tsnami decdoer has good slow speed horn is very weak.
Train Front Cleared a B&O Caboose off the RIP track. Rear trucks where worn out and had to be replaced. Got the Mighty B&O F7's dragging freight on the long section of the B Line. That turn out to be a chore! There was one turnout they kept stalling on. Bright Boy the turnout like 3 times! Finally shut down the layout and hosed the turnout with CRC and the problem was gone!
Later, Ken
I hate Rust
Hey, Ken.
I think I got it about a year ago. After being disappointed with the steam "Rolling Thunder" I heard others say the Diesel sound was much better... No, not really.
The horn sounds like a mule... hee-haww. and the bell has an odd "ding" to it.
Actually, the Tsunami 2 isn't too bad. I have them in my Amtrak SDP40Fs and they sure improved the loudness of the horns in that. I don't know if you can get a SD7 with Tsunami 2 but I would say that would be a better choice. Just my 2¢.
Overall I like Loksound Select the best but I DO have a Lokprogrammer and that makes things nice for me. I just upgraded a bunch of Intermountain F7s to Full Throttle and they sound great!
Worn out trucks! Wow, you do rack up the miles on your equipment
I'm still shivering from being out almost an hour for my "quick" plowing job!
Speaking of B&O Cabooses, heres a couple of shots taken when we were moving the C-2170 to the Middlefield, Ohio depot where we had a model railroad club in the depot.

Check in later, Folks...

Howdy ..
Ed ... That's interesting about your father doing 1 1/2" to the foot also. The diesel would make more sense than steam which requires a ton of work. Outdoor track maintenance is quite a chore too.
Timmy .... You live in an interesting location. We are gping to AZ to see one of our daughters in a few weeks. She lives in Casa Grande with her husband. I checket out the photos in your profile page. Very interesting.
Ken ... Thanks for commenting about my Dad's live steam. .
CN Charlie .... I sold the engine after Dad died. At the time I hardly had any spare time, and live steam is a time consuming hobby. I did keep an O Guage steam he built from scratch which is now on a display shelf.
Granite Railroader... I don't envy you working outside in frigid weather.
MLC .... Interesting to hear your neighbor had live steam.
Happy Model Railroading !
Even though it's cold and my facial hair looks like ten thousand frozen icicles, I rather enjoy what I do... except when Im complaining
Winter time is a good source of extra income for my family. In the last two weeks I've had around 280 billable hours, plus materials. I work full time for a company that makes saw blades, and run my company in addition... luckily my two seasonal employees are good hard workers. Just hired a third man who is homeless and lives off SSI. The guy works harder than most I know and keeps up with me, and I'm 20 ish years "newer".
Time to get back at It! Gotta go fuel everything up to idle overnight otherwise were gonna have everything gel and freeze up again like last week. -30* plus wind chill is going to be a killer.... My guys are on a 15 minute rotation tomorrow, work 15, warm up for 30. All paid. My people matter... and I know they deserve it.
I would also like to extend a to Little Timmy as well. Flo (or whoever's handy), please get him whatever he may want on me. Could I also get a steak omlette with a side of blue cheese dressing? Thank you so much.
riogrande5761: Your weather post reminds me of something similar I saw about people in North Dakota. (I went to college there and lived there for about 2 years after graduation until I came back home.)
Hobby Front: Picked up a dozen connectors to fit the Peco switch machine terminals. (A little over $3 for them.) Didn't want to try to order the pre-made ones and the wires would have to be modified to fit what I want to do with them anyway, so it made sense to build my own. Also got the control boxes and the crossing I ordered today.
Hoping the weather on Tuesday will be good enough to at least get the wood cut for the extension piece.
Evening Diners,
Garry, Ed- Interesting live steam pictures. It must've been fun.
Ed- Thanks for the interesting B&O pictures and the movement of the caboose.
Timmy- There's no reason to hate you. A good friend to meet.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Hey all. My anxiety is really bad tonight so I'm only dropping in to say hi. I've had panic attacks thd last two days.
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Good evening all.
I see we have the madness of page 5 again.
Chloe - I will take the biggest mug you have with hot cocoa, but add a shot of extra strong coffee for me, maybe the caffeine will help with the asthma issues from the bone-chilling weather where my sleeper berth and MOW tasks reside.
Little Timmy- to the diner!
SteveO - Glad that you aren't too frozen! I normally don't complain, but this is getting to be a bit much. When it's so cold it hurts to breathe, it's too cold!
Ed & Garry - Nice pics of the large scale trains!
Ken - Well, it wasn't exactly a huge upgrade, he came in looking for a small riding mower, I stepped him up to a larger model. So it kinda fell into my lap, but I wasn't gonna complain!
Jimmy - Hope all gets better. Remember, Trains are good for the mind. (Otherwise, we are just crazy!)
Weather - Snowy, windy, and cold. And, least I forget, cold. And, just so everyone knows, it's cold.
Oh yeah, it's also cold.
W*^k - Just a couple customers today, but had a visit from a manager from a partner company. (Was very surprised she was out in this weather.) She stopped in just to check on how things were going, and to apologize/explain for a prior issue a couple of weeks ago. (The explanation was what I had already surmised, and we both hoped it came with a very good lesson learned, but it came with donuts, so explanation accepted!) More snow and blow tomorrow, so, might be slow again. Well, at least I will get signs done!
Trains - Ever had one of those days where it just isnt your day? Started assembling a car kit, got to where I needed some CA (superglue) for the weight, and found the lid was glued to the bottle... Then found that all the glue inside was hard. (Yes, of course, that was after cutting the lid off.) Yes, of course, that was the one and only bottle I had on hand. So, that is where the kit got left off at.
Oh yeah, I went to a store on the way home tonight, for a few needed supplies for home, and, guess what?
Yep, I forgot a bottle of super glue!
Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

Good Morning.... I'll have HOT coffee and HOT oatmeal please. ...
Jimmy .... Your friends here care about you. Hope all goes well today for you.
Angel and Ricky .... I appreciate your remarks regarding my Dad's live steam.
FRRY ..... Sounds like you are busy wiring. Glad you are busy with your model railroad.
Ricky ... I know what you mean about forgetting what you need when you are at the store. Eventually, you will get the glue.
Yesterday, I finally had time for model railroading, and I laid some track in the corner. I plan to continue with that today. .... Also, I repaired my 2-6-6-2 with parts that were delivered here while I was out of town.
Happy Model Railroading.
The drywall crew is here working on the kitchen. I finalized the order for the countertops and cabinets on Wednesday.
.
This is moving along quite nicely, but still at least 8 weeks until it is finished.

Living the dream.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I will have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with pure NYS Maple Syrup, bacon, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast, Organic Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug full for a while. I'll go sit in the back over by the wood stove with Garry for a bit and see if I can warm up....
"We're havein' a Heat Wave, Tropical Heat Wave...." Currently 3°F outside up from the overnight low of Zero! Wind chill makes it feel like -18°F. I think I'll stay inside as much as possible today. No place I need to go and the Volt would start the ICE and burn the fossilized dinosaur dung anyway. So I may clean house and do some model railroading today....
Heartland Division CB&QRicky ... I know what you mean about forgetting what you need when you are at the store. Eventually, you will get the glue.
I generally make a list of what I need... I sometimes forget to take it with me, and almost always foget to put three or four items that I really need on the list. Usually remember them right after I get home.....
Yesterday the electrician came over and replaced a worn out light switch in the bathroom and converted the old T-12 florescent fixtures down cellar to T-8s for me. Ten years ago I would have done all of that myself, but I don't like to have to work over my head these days. Positional virtigo bugs me, and arthritis in my shoulders makes it painful.... Besides the electrician is now the committee chair of my old Boy Scout Troop and was also the Scoutmaster for several years after I was. He worked for a couple hours and then we sat and chatted for another hour. His son is one of my Eagles as well!
Got railbars put on and the new track "rusted" (painted) yesterday, so now I need to get plaster cloth down in the area and ballast the track. Unfortunately I just rememberd I am out of plaster cloth. I may have to burn some gasoline to get down to the hobby store for some more.... Hmmmmmmmm.......
Have a good one, and stay warm!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Hello Ray ... Warm up? ... It's not exactly the tropics here today. Single digits last night, and now it is a "balmy" 15*F ..... As for replacing flouescent lights, I have been changing over to 4' LED shop lights. Much better. No flickering.
Kevin ... Glad the remodeling is progressing.
Heartland Division CB&QAs for replacing flouescent lights, I have been changing over to 4' LED shop lights. Much better. No flickering.
Hi, Garry, I considered that as well. My fixtures are antiques.... The old T-12 Magnetic Ballasts were dated 1961 on two of them. They didn't owe anyone any money... LOL My choices for LEDs with them would be to change out to the new electronic ballasts (which we had to for T-8) or remove the ballast completely and use the 120v LEDs.... No way do I want to have exposed 120 on each end of the lights when I have to change them out.... The electrician agreed strongly with that thought as well. When the T-8 bulbs go out, I may replace them with the LED 4' ones that work with electronic ballasts. I also kept one old shop light that is over one of my workbenches in that part of the basement as T-12. That way I can use up the working T-12 bulbs that were pulled from the other lights. When I run out of those, I will take out the shoplight and replace that with an LED Fixture.... That is if I am still around.
Sun is trying to shine outside. Debating on going down town to the hobby shop to get some plaster cloth. I seem to be out. I do have several other porjects to get done, but the one I want to do, I need plaster cloth for..... Hmmmmm.
Catch you all later!
Good morning from the cloudy but dry West Coast. We are also into single digits on the old thermo meter. It is 7c. The kid heads back to Ottawa tomorrow where it is cold, cold, cold.
Garry and Ed, I hope you know how lucky you guys were to be around trains of that scale as kids. That would have been terrific.
Jimmy B, have you looked into Hypnotherapy for your anxiety issues. I have seen three people I know completely change their lives around with the hypnotherapy. The hypnotherapy completely removed anxiety problems from their lives and made them get out and take on responsible positions in society and have very fulfilling lives. Do some research. Make sure it is done by a qualified mental health professional.
CN Charlie, I think K.D.Langs version of Leonard Cohens Hallelujah is awesome. That guy sure wrote some Lyrics in his day. My wife is good friends with K.D. Langs sister as she is also a dog person. K.D. sure has some pipes on her. Her version done at the opening of the Vancouver Olympics is also really good.
The Olympic version.

Ken, I noticed you had not posted for a spell and it had me wondering, good to see you're okay. Still hoping Ulrich will return. His post count would start from zero again, so we could treat him like a new guy, you know, make him buy all the beer for his first year.
Speaking of new guy's, a big warm to Timmy! I looked at your work on your profile page, impressive! How come you call yourself "Little" Timmy?
Well, I think I'll hang with the kid today and take him to our local incredibly good sushi restaurant tonight for his last supper. He went for sushi in Ottawa once and he said that I was right about not going to a sushi restaurant so far from the ocean. I'll have to dump him at the airport tomorrow at 1500hrs, so maybe a late lunch at the airport tomorrow as well.
All the best to all, stay safe and warm.

Yes Garry, Me too!
Every little but that gets done on this house brings me one step closer to my train room. Still on target for a November, 2019 "ground breaking" ceremony for the layout construction.
