Good Morning!
The day starts with a smile, which means the sun´s out!
Today is a day off from our tour through Switzerland. Fell free to explore the beautiful city on your own! Public transport is excellent, so you won´t have a problem getting around!
Here are some impressions of what you will see!
Have a nice time!
Evening all! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get my standard late night snack of breadded mushrooms and blue cheese dressing and some raspberry iced tea? Thank you so much.
Hobby Front: Got the order from Walther's. Got all the pieces I ordered and I have them sorted out to where they need to go. The pallets need to be stained before they go out to the layout. (Got a bottle of Polly Scale acrylic wash in Pine that I have used in many applications.) The regular plows for the 20s will be green. The passenger plows, I think, go green. (I haven't looked at those units in so long, I can't remember if the sills are green or black.) I might wait to paint the plows as I still need to build a filler panel to inset into the hole in the sill as the shells had the talgo truck mounted couplers. (I haven't figured out how to fill the rear ends yet.) Also got the headlight for the SD45 and the styrene to repair the mounts for the SD40-2. As previously mentioned, lots of projects.
ROBERT PETRICKNow that you're an officer, when trash needs to be emptied at the club you get to choose the can with the clean handles.
Funny that. One of the weaknesses that the majority of our club members seem to suffer from is an unwillingness to deal with the simple little details that contribute to the well being and neatness of the clubhouse. For example, it took four weeks for the paint cans and equipment to be cleaned up after painting the walls. They literally sat in the middle of the floor for the whole time, and they only got cleaned up when I asked for some help to do it. I guess I should have spoken up earlier.
Last week I sorted out the recycling bin and brought all the stuff home to put out with my garbage. The bin was overflowing but everyone seemed to have been waiting for someone else to do the job. Admittedly, again, I should have done it myself earlier. Next week I will deal with the real garbage can. That's going to cost me three bucks to put out a second bag at my curb. OH well! That's what I get for showing some initiative!
At some point in the future I will raise these issues at a business meeting and I'm sure several people will step up to the plate to help maintain the place.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Eveing Diners
Flo, Ed, Gary, Inch, Galaxy (where has he been lately anyway) Jan, Brent, Mr President Jim and I will have a please.
Work Front, Owner Marv Heart Valve Replacment. Been told Marvin is doing well and is out of the ICU. Far from being out of the woods and have been told he will be down and out for 3 months.
Looking for a second job front. Seen a few jobs I be intrested in but will be a reach for me in some ways. Like being "Up Beat, Interested In New Technology I still used XP Pro and have a flip phone! ". But I am a good listner and have a good sales back ground so what the heck!
Jim Hope you like being the President and Good Luck!

Dave, I had a quick look at your Clubs website, and thought that things looked OK to me.
There are several things that are missing or not up to date. One glaring example is that we don't have our February 2018 show and sale on the website. Bad.
We also don't have the members' section running. We want to post motions which have passed, and club rules/bylaws for the members to reference easily.
Checking in from down under. Hoping all are safe and well in California.
Modelling HO Scale with a focus on the West and Midwest USA
Congratulations Dave!
Now that you're an officer, when trash needs to be emptied at the club you get to choose the can with the clean handles.
Good luck.
Robert

Morning All!
Hobby Front: Just looking at my project pile and it is not getting any smaller. An SD45 (parts should be here tomorrow), a box car (New door being watched and will be purchased later. I will also need to get a new set of trucks for them as well.), and the SD40-2 (Shell needs to be hit with some more debonder as there are still globs of CA on it. Also need to find the handrail that I mislaid when I stripped the paint off. Should be in the area but I will need to look closer next week.), and the drop end gon. (Need to stain some skewers to have them represent part of a load that I am building. Hopefully Monday.)

Mornin' from the dark and gloomy Finger Lakes Region.....
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Non GMO, Organic, granola cereal this morning with skim milk and some blueberries, please. Oh, a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Raost Coffee would fit the bill too. Thank you Ma'am!
OK... Garry, I replied to your PM. Hope it comes through.
Talked for a while with the gentleman who lives over across the street from me. He is a modeler of Boats mostly. He also had 4 cats in his house. One of his cats all of a sudden couldn't move his back legs! He started to go beserk when he found he couldn't walk... Pulled himself across the floor and managed to open a cupboard door in the kitchen and crawled in there where he had a hiding place. Came back out a few minutes later and found several other of his hiding places all the time puilling himself around with the front legs and dragging his back legs. He was terrified that he couldn't walk evidently and was crying the whole time. He got a friend from up the street to drive him to Rochester with the cat to a major emergency pet hospital (this happened on Monday). Vet at the hospital identified the problem as a major blood clot that affected the ability of the cat to move its hind quarters. The vet said it can be treated but most with the condition never regain the use of the legs... It was also going to cost the guy $850 to treat and house the cat for one week... He (with the approval and advise of the vet) decided to have the cat put down. Pretty much the best thing, but I feel sad for the gent. He rescued the cat as a stray several years ago and they think the cat was around 12 or so years old. Not that old...... My kitties are 16.5 years old now. I hope they both have several years left......
Got the presentation pretty much roughed in last night. Went to bed near midnight though. Will start to edit and rehearse the presentation today between several other items needing to be attended to.

Good morning ....
Ray ...... I just tried a PM to you . Last year, Steven kindly helped me with the PM's so mine will work.
Dave ..... It is good to hear the news about your club. Congrats on winning the election.
Ulrich ... I'm still behind with the videos. I hope to catch up.
Cheers

Thank you Ulrich.
I'll have to get used to being asked a lot of questions. As soon as the formal business meeting ended I was approached by a couple of members who were asking for advice. One was to do with the resurection of our neglected website. I had approached this member about taking on the website and he stepped right up to the task. He is not an experienced website developer but he has a close friend who is. He was asking me for direction! Me who knows exactly nothing about website development! I said I'd review the existing website and do my best to make constructive suggestions.
I can't remember what the other question was but the person asking seemed to be satisfied with my on the spot answer. I'll have to get better at making notes.
Like I said, I'm deep in it now! I just hope it doesn't go over my head!
Cheers everyone!!
Another grey and wet day, but predictions for next week look promising. We have another election coming up on Sunday, this time being state elections.
We are leaving Zermatt on an early train to Brig again. We will change trains there and head to the Swiss capital of Berne via the old Loetschberg route. Following the opening of the new Loetschberg base tunnel, this route has been deprived of nearly all traffic with only a few local trains remaining. It is a beautiful route, offering many a spectacular view. If you chose a seat on the left side of the train, you may catch a glimpse of the Matterhorn as well as thze Mont Blanc, the highest European mountain! We will also pass over the famous Bietschtal viaduct, the Faller model of which having found a home on many a US-themed layout!
Today, we also have a bonus program, showing a 1913 film of the inaugurational train.
We will arrive in Berne in time for lunch and I recommend to have that in one of the cosy "tea rooms", which remind us of the first to discover the charme of Switzerland being the British.
Following lunch, we will take a nostalgic streetcar tour of Berne!
Enjoy!
hon30critterI got elected as the Vice President of the Barrie Allandale Railroad Modellers on Tuesday night
Congratulation on the new "job", Dave!
Well, I've stepped in it now! I got elected as the Vice President of the Barrie Allandale Railroad Modellers on Tuesday night, and my buddy Henk is now the President. We didn't care who had which position so we let the club choose. I had won the competition for the new layout plan so everyone agreed that Henk should have the top position. Suits me fine.
It would be more accurate to say that we were acclaimed since nobody ran against us, but it was still nice to see that everyone present voted in favour of us taking on the roles.
Henk and I outlined about 15 different things that we want to work on for the club. The most important one is getting a proper handle on our February show and sale. We have been in a situation where there wasn't any back-up plans for the important responsibilities. If somebody got sick we would be left scrambling to figure out what needed to be done.
The other things include better recruiting of new members, better record keeping and communication, improving our website...I won't bore you with all the details.
One thing our new President noted was that the atmosphere in the club has improved significantly since we got our new club house and started construction of the new layout. When we were in the old place the morale wasn't all that good.
So, wish me luck. Hopefully I can live up to peoples' expectations.
BTW, we got the frame for the second benchwork section assembled tonight! Whoopie!!
Henry:
Good news from the doctor!
I hope your cousins come through the fire without too many losses.
Hello, anyone?
Flo, are you awake? Would you give me a please and if any of the guys show give them one as well.
Yes Flo my store was as dead as the dinner. Had my one and only customer come it at 5:50 PM and was out the door by 5:59 PM but she did buy a Queen Box spring for $140.00.
Yep Flo I have been looking for partime work my self, sure not much out there is there? Guess I could try being a security guard pays $10.50 a hour! Just what I want to grow up to be, a rent a cop!
Later Flo

My scans are in and there are no surprises lurking in my head or neck. The doc said "I think I will just leave you alone"
Haven't heard from one cousin, but I'm sure if the worst happened I would know. The winery has survived, maybe not some of the vineyards.

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Organic Granola and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Raost Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug full for a while....
Hmmmm, Garry, I resent the PM and noticed that both of the ones I sent you don't list you as being part of the conversation????? I started it by going to your profile and clicked on "start Conversation....." I dunno? How about you sending a PM to me and then I can reply? Looks like something is not working right at the site.
The sun is trying to shine here in the Finger Lakes region of NYS this morning. Maybe this afternoon I can mow some lawn after I get home from my sister's house. I have just about roughed in the slides for the presentation, and went through the presentation as it now stands and it is too long, I think. So I will finish oputting in some photos that I haven't added yet, and then start cutting stuff.
Best get showered, shaved, and get to w*rk! Later....
Good morning .....
Regarding PM's. I just noticed MLC replied on August 30 to my PM of August 23.
Ray .... I did not receive your PM.
Ulrich .. I'm falling behind watching the videos, but keep posting them. I'll catch up later.
FRRY ... Interesting looking car.
Henry .... The CA fires look terrible. I hope your cousins will be okay.
Yestarday, we were busy all afternoon which included going to Murray, KY. Today will be busier because we will go to Nashville, TN. We will return late in evening.
I did run some trains last evening. It was a very good sanity break.
BigDaddyUlrich do these big storms come out of the North Sea?
The prevailing direction is southwesterly winds, but sometimes we get a stiff "norreaster" blowing about us, coming from the North Sea. Storm "Xavier" was one of those, and also the remains of your last hurricane...
Good morning diners
Ulrich do these big storms come out of the North Sea?
My cold is not as fast moving as I hoped. cough cough cough
I have 2 cousins who live in Napa, one runs the family winery. For are foreign diners there are 14 wildfires burning in California. The later cousin is visiting NYC so he is safe but doesn't know if the winery is still standing. In that part of the country wineries are one right next to another. A couple of the wineries that have burned are just a few doors down.
This is going to be a wet day, but I don´t care, as there are no outdoor activities scheduled for the day! Trains are running again - after 4 days! Must have been a disaster for those using the trains to commute to work. Each trains holds a sufficient amount of people to fill 10 buses, but only 1 was commissioned to act as a substitute. From what I here, quite a lot of folks got stranded in Hamburg and had to stay overnight in old sleeping cars. Must have been fun for them!
Back to our tour throughout Switzerland! Today, we take an MGB train from Brig to Zermatt.
Again, the following video shows the trip the other way around - from Zermatt to Brig.
Upon arrival, we won´t waste any time looking around town, as Zermatt is way past the idyllic little Swiss village it used to be before mass tourism hit it in the 1960s and 1970s. We therefore will just take a short walk to the Gornergrat Railway station and take the train up to the Gornergrat ridge, which will render the best of all panoramic views in Switzerland!
Early morning all! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get my normal late night snack of Breaded mushrooms and blue cheese dressing? Thank you so much.
Hobby Front: Getting there on a few projects and looking forward to getting more parts later this week.
Finally got the SD40-2 handrails unglued from the shell. Someone was not very good at gluing. The handrails will see the stripper bath to get the old paint off and probably the shell will as well to the clean the glue and other gunk off. I finally got a drive and that should be here later this week.
Another vacation ordered project is done.
This is one of three Bachmann excursion cars that were ordered while I was on vacation. The only change I made from the original was to paint the roofs NP Dark Green from the black that was stock.
As for the later in the week things: the Walthers order is due Thursday (more parts for the 40-2, plows for my GP20s, and a few other things) and I should also get a couple of bottles of paint and another boxcar tommorow. Ironically one bottle of the paint will be needed for the boxcar. It is a Tyco car that I will need to body mount some couplers (Talgos) and change the door. The car number is an actual model but the door isn't right for the prototype. Seems like I finish one project and come up with two more.
Non-railroad: Working on a wedding gift for a cousin that is getting married which is somewhat delaying railroad projects.
Edit: I guess I have the top of the page. Foods on me.

Garry, I sent you a PM. If you don't get the joke (bet you know) just let me know for the "explanation...." I didn't figure it was proper to put up here in the diner. Probably things have gone far enough, if you know what I mean... LOL
Hoping to get most of the slide show done this evening for the Retired Teacher's presentation. Then I will have to rehearse it a few dozen times and time the show. Then make changes... Go back and rehearse again, time that, and make more changes.... Etc, etc, etc.....
If it ever stops raining every night around here, I need to get the lawn mowed again!
OK! Back to W*RK!
Good Evening, Folks
Heartland Division CB&QEd .... I like seeing the old Erie advertisement. I have many fond memories of train travel.
Thanks, Garry! I enjoy sharing old photos and railroad-themed documents with the gang!
I bring with me good news from our fellow Diner member, YGW!
Below is from an email I received from him earlier today:
YGW's HOBBY BARN PROGRESS!
I have had a very busy summer. We have built and settled 20 + million dollar homes, many with Elevators built in. Also now that the weather has cooled down I an making a LOT of progress on the hobby barn.
In the attached you can see that I have Installed the skylights ( two on the front and two on the rear ). Installing the skylights was scary ! Imagine standing on a steep slope with loose gravel under ones feet and a long fall to the bottom ! When we cut the holes the saw dust acted like loose gravel it was almost impossible to keep ones feet under oneself. The shingles are Installed in the rear and the front is partially installed ( shingling is back breaking work !!!!) .
