I am so proud of my son Jeremy.

Congratulations on your son's success! All that hard work has paid off - I'm referring to your hard work as a parent as well as his too!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Evening diners

I am so proud of my son Jeremy.

I've known about this for months.  My son came into town to see the Vikings game tomorrow.

I took him and his new wife to be out to dinner to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate his new promotion.

From Top salesman at the dealership he's worked for the last 10 years he is moving up to finance manager.

He will now make commissions off all the cars sold that he finances working with banks.

I am so proud of him!   I guess you could say my son now sells money.

The dinner was very good too.  Walking on Air Tonight.

 Eveing Diners

Flo, Ed, Gary, Brent, Jan, Inch, Ulrich and I will have a Beer please. Give Ray a new coffee cup and top it off form him the right way with real coffee!

Ray Thanks for dinner and the Beer last night. While I knew you where kidding it struck me the wrong way. By the way do you give a person chest compression's if there heart stops? I heard on TV that you should not longer do compression's. Is that right or wrong?

Richard Sorry to hear about Miss RTR brother passing. What was her brother weight?

Work Front. Worked or should I say talked with Keith the new salesperson today. We each had 3 customer I closed 2 out of the 3. He closed 0 out of 3. In this case it was more of the luck of the draw. All of the customer's where for nickel and dime stuff. I had a whole $819.00 in sales, pretty sad for a Saturday. Sigh

Train Front Tried to get the Blue Line RSD-15 sound and lights working, that was a no go. Plus as soon as the engine hit a turnout off the rails it went. I am sure I can fix the derailment problems, not sure about the DC sound decoder problem.

 Later, Ken

Heartland Division CB&Q

Good morning !

I'll have apple cider with an apple fritter, please.

Steven .... Those pumkin spice thingees are funny. We tried a pumkin milk shake at Culver's last year, and it was not good at all.

Ulrich .... Thanks for the video. British steam locomotives oftern were very nice looking. I saw some at the Railway Museum in York, England and I was very impressed. The Mallard was especially remarkable because it was the fastest steam locomotive ever.

MLC ... I hope Mrs. MLC is recovering nicely from her surgery.

Jim (UP831) ... I meant to say I saw your comment about your visit to the Canadian Rockies. Evidently, it was an enjoyable trip. I, too, have been to Banff and Lake Louise. I think Lake Louise is the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. .... I see you also were skeptical of Steven's pumpkin goodies.

Ken .... Thanks for the Beer !

Joe 323 ... You mentioned Amtrak food. I remember travel by train before Amtrak and food was good back then. For example, I recall when I was young, our family traveled on the PRR Broadway Limited from Chicago to Philadelphia. The diner had good food. We had several other long distance train trips back then on other railroads, and they also had good food in the dining cars. ... I grew up in Chicago area, and we had numerous trains to choose from for family trips.

Ed ... THANK YOU  for showing YGW's progess. I certainly miss his conversations here in the Diner.

Bear and Lion ... Where are you ?

Everybody .... Have a nice Saturday.

That was on pre Amtrak days I remember my first trip when I was ten with my Dad.  These days I think it’s mostly microwaved.

Richard - that is sad news! My sincere condolences!

A friend of ours has been diagnosed with cancer of the prostrate. While this is a type of cancer with excellent prospects of healing when discovered at an early stage, it´s a different story in his case. The docs told him yesterday they can´t risk surgery, his general condition sfter a severe heart attack won´t allow that. He will be in for radiation treatment, starting Wednedsay.

Petra and I have lit a candle for him.

I am back from visiting the my son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids in Idaho. I had a great time; it was tough to come home. Being home is a little lonely at the moment. While I was in Idaho, Mrs. ROR made an unscheduled trip to visit her brother in the ICU in Louisianna. He had been recently diagnosed with lymphoma that turned more advanced and aggressive than intially thought. He passed away yesterday morning with his family by his side. The diagnosis and treatment were inhibited by his size. To all my diner pals, please take care of yourselves. Stay healthy.

Good Afternoon!

Another grey day with plenty of that wet stuff coming down, but what else is new at thi time of the year? It´s so dark, we had to turn the lights on about an hour ago!

I am pretty much good for nothing toda. Mir right shoulder and arm seem to be locked into place, as I can barely move them. Adding to that, my left hand is acting up. Ageing is not for whimps!

Garry - I like the sleek and elegant look of British steam engines. My all time favourite is the GWR King´s class of 4-6-0, followed by the ex Southern Merchant Navy class of Pacifics in the BR rebuilt version.

Have a good one!

Chicago actually returning Sunday night.  I liked everything about the outbound trip except Amtrak food which is awful even in the dinning car.  Now I am relaxing in my hotel ready for dinner.

Ray If you knew what I was really trying to say why did not give me the answer I was looking for? You have me some what PO'ed! Would you make fun of one of your students or scouts for a grammer mistake? Guess it easy to take pot shots at a person on line that you will never meet faces to faces. I know you are better person than that. Plus you kind of caught me in hate the world mode.

Steven:  Those are hilarious, but I have to ask were those Photoshopped?  I can't imagine they're real.  Great joke and a fine example of how some marketing trends take on a life of their own.  Which is why I don't take marketers too seriously.

Most of them are fake. I believe the sausage and Peeps are real, though. And I even left out some more potentially offensive ones.

It still isn't feeling very autumnal up here in southeastern Wisconsin yet. The leaves are turning, but daily highs are still in the mid-70s. Gotta do something about that. How about something pumpkin spicy? Everybody seems to love pumpkin spice, right?

Errr...

uhhh...

hmmm... I don't know...

That's just wrong...

Now hold on a second...

I SAID STOP!

OK, you know, forget it. Today's Diner special is... I don't know, pizza. There. Try to pumpkin spice that.

I give up.

Good Afternoon!

Another wet & windy day - just the way I don´t like! Zoe, make that a mug of hot chocolate and a slice of that cherry crumble pie for me, please! That ought to brighten up the day for me!

Interested in some main line steam action? Well, then watch this video!

I like those British steam engines in their smart, colorful liveries with all that lining. Compared to the utilitarian look of US and German steam locos, the are so much nicer to look at, albeit a little bit toy-like, due to their much smaller profile!

Enjoy your day!

Mornin' train crew!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 Special this morning.  Over Easy on the eggs, Bacon, Homefries, and a double order of the Sour Dough toast.  A pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR mug would be nice as well.

Ray Where ever did you get the idea I was talking about giving CPR to a beathing and heart beating person?

LOL, 'Cause that is what you said!  "Ray I have heard that if a person stops beathing and there heart has stopped you no longer do chest compressions"  I was being a bit sarcastic.  Because if you stop doing CPR to a person because their heart stopped, why were you doing CPR to someone whose heart was beating???  I figured that what you wrote wasn't really what you meant. Whistling

Sun is shining so far this morning here in the Finger Lakes region of NYS.  I hope to do some catch up on several things around the property and, of course, I will have to use a couple hours of time to drive to Canandaigua to feed the kitties there.

Just sat down again here at the puter...  Got an email from the "Plug in America" people.  seems that back a couple months ago when I attended a National Drive Electric Week event I was certainly not alone!  This year was the first year that there were events in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  They logged 25,624 volunteer hours at those events.

I am surprised at how fast the train actually goes last night there were times when it went over 100mph between NYC but I think we are averaging around 80 per Waze and will be in Chicago in an hour.

Slept well overnight glad I brought a blanket and eyshades. Turned on my music and drifted right off.

Just stopping by to get that Beer from Ken! Thanks, Ken! Glad to hear you dusted off some old engines. I do the same thing, sometimes forgetting just why an engine has sat for so long.

Lots of fine weather here in NE Ohio. I'm busy finishing up w**k on the patio/deck rebuild.

Garry, I didn't get a chance to talk to my nephew about his plans for the Ringling Brothers car. I know he went in with another buyer and bought a car just to get the trucks which had recently been rebuilt.

Here's a blast from the past... (1992)

Gee, Ken, last I was taught, if a person is breathing, his/her heart (I think that's what you meant as if they have no heat they would be dead for some time already) would have to be still beating.... You don't perform CPR on a person who is breathing and the heart is beating.

Ray Where ever did you get the idea I was talking about giving CPR to a beathing and heart beating person? Yes I did type heat and not heart and missed spelled sternum.

Train Front Got a old friend going, my BLI Blue Line GE AC 6000. I had forgotten how to reset the dual decoders that are in the Blue Line engines and I still think it was a bad idea. Anyway last night I had a few Beer and decided to see if it still ran and it did after sitting 3 years. It ran, but no sound and no headlight, reason I parked it. Then a dim light went on and I remembered how to reset the decoders!

Tonight I used the SEB DT400 in OP and got the sound going again! Love the sound but still no headlight. Sigh But, there are 2 scokets for the headlight, one controlled by the DC decoder and one by the DCC decoder. Guess I play with that Friday. Pulls 18 cars up my version of Sherman Hill.

Next up will be my BLI Blue Line RSD 15.

Hey all, Been awol for a "good" reason.

Almost everyone at work quit in the past two weeks...So, I've been picking up everyone else's shifts...no higher salary, just more hours  I can't keep working myself like this though.  4 days in a row with the general public, and two of those were by myself during the peak hours of shopping, so I am beat.  I'm not afraid to work, Just being confronted with tons of random people at once makes me freak out.  Never been examined for Anxiety, probably should be at this point...just for answers.  Anyway...onto good news

Parts of my lighting project for the club arrived today, so tomorrow I will hopefully spend some free time wiring it up correctly this time- I had the wrong resistors.

Also good news- Found out the local city chamber of commerce is putting on Light up night again- Aka "Shopping with Santa".  They actually asked the club if we would open our doors for the evening.  We agreed, and will be open.  Not at liberty yet to say anymore details, but we are promised to have visitors that evening...I might even be able to get a custom done Polar express locomotive for the evening.

I'm fighting with comcast again...The X1 box went out...again... They won't send anyone out to fix it...again.... until we go out and prove my grandfather is dead.

I'm also feeling under the weather maybe, although I hope it's just residual from all that extra time I got.

Hope the regulars here are all doing well.  Hello to any new diners.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, tonight I'll take that Beer that Ken offered last night.  Oh, and have one set up for him when he stops by...  Put it on my tab.......  I only drink 3 or 4 Beer a year anymore, but I think I deserve one tonight.

Well, Angelo, I am happy to report that the program went off without a hitch and was very well recieved by the 35 to 40 retired teachers attending.  I had it arranged with a Scouting buddy of mine (who asked me to do the program) to use the old Woodbadge Staff trick of having him stand up in the back and point to his watch when he figured I had about 5 minutes left on the docket.  At lunch he told me he was just looking at his watch and was about to do that when I announced the last slide.  I was 15 minutes late being able to start and I ended 10 minutes before lunch was served.  Worked out perfect!  I had fun!

I should get everything put away from the program (took a bunch of items for "Show and Tell") and start getting the layout in shape to have the AP Chair and a couple other people come to evaluate several buildings for merit awards towards the Structures Certificate.  The Octagon Blacksmith's Shop will be one of them.  I had a slide of it in my presentation and about half of the teachers in the room knew where the building is and were quite interested in the model of it.  I tried to emphasies the links to education and the hobby.  Talked about Science, Art, History, Literature, and Technology needed to really create a model railroad.

Catch you all later!

Afternoon Diners,

I'm off to soft foods for the next half of month.

UP831- Maybe one day I'll go to Alaska to see the northern lights and the railroad.

Ulrich- I have been enjoying these videos.

Ray- How was your presentation to the retired teachers.

Through the whole morning, I been thinking of changing my half complete desert layout into the Northeastern landscape. I'm in the mood for modeling Conrail and Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited on the old Boston and Albany line.

I do have the equipment except Gilford System Railroad locomotives.

Jim - Jasper, Banff & the Lake Louise area were on my radar, but now it´s too late for that. maybe in my next life!

Just watching a video of "life on the footplate"

The steam engine featured in this video is a British Railways Standard Class 4MT (=Mixed Traffic) 2-6-4T, built in 1956.

Good morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Been away for a bit.  Actually just returned From Banff, AB and environs.  The scenery there is absolutely breath taking.  You're right in the mountains, and it snowed on us on Oct 2nd.  We weren't very well prepared.  All I had was a light fleece lined jacket and a "hoodie" sweatshirt.  i did have a pair of gloves and a scarf, but MOH and I were a little underdressed for the occasion.  I bought a knit hat, and that helped.

Pictures don't do it justice.  Looking at the Canadian Rockies right there, the mountains reminded me a little of the Sierra Nevadas.  One side sloped and the other side jagged and steep.

it is my understanding that the Canadian Pacific was largely responsible for promoting tourism in the area and built the world famous hotels at Banff and Lake Louise.  The CP is very active there, with at least two trains daily.  Consist was generally 2 GE units on the head end, one pusher, and sometimes one in the middle.  Obviously, a lot of grain hoppers, and also a lot of tank cars.  I believe Alberta is big in grain and oil.

Last Saturday evening, we were treated to Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis.  They were spectacular.  I had kind of seen them once before, but never like that.  They were like fingers dancing in the sky.  All I can say is WOW!!  Better than any fireworks show.

I recomend the area to anyone.  Dahling, you must go!
