Afternoon Diners,
I'm getting ready to play the new Star Wars Battlefront 2 tomorrow if it happens. I been waiting impatiently for my Beta code since I preordered it.
Not much is happening, maybe watch an episode of Supergirl since I haven't watched some of season two.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
I am just heartbroken by what has happened in Las Vegas. Life is so precious and so fleeting and I can only hug one of my kids right now.

Evening All! Flo (or whoever's handy), could I get my usual breaded mushrooms and blue cheese dressing? Thank you so much.
Hobby Front: After I placed that big hobby order, I found that I made a minor boo-boo with said order. One of the items that I ordered was a new container of debonder. I went looking for it before I placed said order. (I couldn't find it.) Of course, after I placed the order, I found the container of debonder sitting on one of the coffee tables on the side of the couch. I apparently forgot I put it there. (Not that a spare container wouldn't be a bad idea, but it's just the principle that I fouled up.)
Didn't get anything done on the layout. (Too wet. Rained petty much all day.) Not that I'm complaining. We have been so dry lately. With help from Mom, I was able to get the last wide vision caboose and two drill batteries delivered though.
Also should get the drop end lettering finished tonight. (Finally) The weathering might be a few days yet. I also have the dowels cut for the loads. (About $10 in dowels should give me enough for a couple of loads.) I think I even have found another use for the skewers that I have laying around. (Other than stirring paint.) The dowels will need to be stained before I totally build the load. (Another thing hopefully tonight.)
Batman,
That is a very moving arrangement----

Thank you for posting that, Brent. That music wraps me in comfort like a warm blanket.
I can't shake the feeling of helplessness. Hollow, empty— simply no earthly rationale in the whole tragedy.
It helps to share the thoughts and feelings here...
Thank you to our hosts for making this forum available,

Las Vegas was a terrible event. My heart felt like lead when I heard the news. Man's inhumanity to man seems to know no bounds.
However, life must go on, and tonight I had two great things happen. The first was that the club has built the framework for the first section of the new layout! Yippee!!!
However, the second event was far more important, to Dianne and me at least. Our son got engaged to a wonderful, intelligent woman named Kaitlin. She is a hard working, sensible, sensitive and very well mannered young woman who is two courses away from becoming a Chartered Accountant. We recently spent the better part of a week with her and Cole at a cottage and we got along famously, as we always have. Our son has chosen well!
Cheers all!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Good Morning!
I am still very much under the impression of the Las Vegas incident. This is so utterly sad!
We are back to touring Switzerland. We are in Interlaken, a fashionable hotspot between two lakes (hence the name), but we won´t stay long. We make our way to Zweisimmen, where we board an MOB (Montreux Oberland Bernoise Railway) to Montreux on Lake Geneva. The line is known as the "Golden Pass" line, the name being a marketing person´s invention to draw tourists away from the uber-famous Albula and Bernina lines of the Rhaetian Railway. Nevertheless, it is a great ride through beautiful scenery. Join me in a cab ride to see for yourself!
As you know, Switzerland is a mere spec on the globe, hardly visible. There are counties in the US which are much bigger! Yet Switzerland sports 4 vofficial languages, the main one being a kind of German, followed by French, Italian and Raetho Roman, which is a mixture of German and Italian (don´t let the folks in Engiadina hear that). Montreux is in the French speaking part, so those of you who took French in their high school or college days can now prove their language skills!
Dave - congratulation on your DIL to be! I have never understood why so many women are doing accounting! Whatever you do, it all boils down to is writing small numbers in small boxes on big sheets of paper, while the sum of the lines has to match the sum of the columns. I always found that to be extremely boring, which is certainly a strange attitude for an ex-CFO.
I am sure you all will have a good day today!
hon30critterOur son got engaged to a wonderful, intelligent woman named Kaitlin.
Congratulations to you and your's, Dave. You are certainly deserving of such good news!
Best wishes to you all—
gmpullmanThat music wraps me in comfort like a warm blanket.
Thanks, Ed, that it does.
After waking up to the horror and watching on the morning news, before she went to school my daughter sat down at our Grand Piano and played that piece perfectly even though she had not played it in months.

Ulrich, you are forgetting about the size of the paycheque! A Chartered Accountant will make well into 6 figures in Canada, and Kaitlin is already talking about owning her own company! The girl certainly has her goals firmly in sight.
In fact, they are already doing well already. Last September they managed to buy a really nice house in Barrie in a tough market with money to spare. Niether one of them are spend thrifts.

Thanks Ed! Much appreciated.

That´s a cultural issue. In my country, accounting is not at all very well paid, unless you go into auditing with one of the leading auditing firms.
Sir MadogIn my country, accounting is not at all very well paid, unless you go into auditing with one of the leading auditing firms.
In Canada we have 'book keepers' and 'Accountants'. The book keepers do the basic numbers work and the Accountants (notice the capital 'A') spend most of their time on figuring out how to best conform with the rules (at least the honest ones do). The 'book keepers' do not make huge dollars, although they do make a living wage. The Accountants do make good money. Kaitlin will be on the 'plus' side of that equation.
The whole situation will be academic in a couple of years because they are planning on having kids. I will be a grandfather! The thought boggles my mind!!
Cheers Ulrich!
Cheers, the Bear.

here’s something that will hopefully put smiles on your dials.
I'm smiling JaBear!!! Great compilation!
As for the Rocky Road dessert, don't tempt me! I have a bad habit of going to the local bulk food store every few months and buying about a pound of old fashioned black licorice 'cigars', the ones with red sugar sprinkles on one end to supposedly make them look like they are lit. I guess they are an acquired taste, but if I didn't stop myself I'd be buying a pound every week!
Cheers Bear!
Good morning
I enjoy the international friendships here . Latest posts include Canadians, a New Zeelander , and a German with videos of Switzerland. Wonderful!
Dave . It's good to hear about your son and his female companion .
Bear. ... I like the old Laurel and Hardy films. They are always funny .
Ulrich. ... thanks for the videos. Maybe eventually , my wife and I will go to Switzerland and experience Swiss railroading. For now, your videos will have to suffice .

I see Steven left his mark by firing a warning shot - so guys, no politics and such.
gary - sjould the tome come I´d be more than glad to help you work out an interesting itinerary!
Well rules is rules and it's a pretty slippery slope not to offend someone these days.
Built my first totally scratchbuilt structure, a quadplex outhouse, based on a prototype from a family photo. Just sprayed it with primer, (it is styrene) Haven't decided if I should paint it white and heavily weather it or go for the unpainted heavily weathered raw wood look. Pictures later.
Underwent a barage of tests yesterday to follow up on my dizziness and some earlier known problems. Waiting for results is never easy especially when I could see the plaque in my carotid artery during the ultrasound. Probably only needs followed for now, but just one more thing to worry about.

Henry ... sorry to hear about your dizziness . Praying it can be corrected without too much difficulty. Must be an impressive outhouse .
Ulrich ... thanks for the willingness to assist with a travel plan with Swiss railways. You have helped before with that. Unfortunately we could not make the trip then.
Steven... thanks for looking out for things here. It is best for friendships if we stay away from controversial conversations.
For the discerning millionaire in need of a new toy!
Good afternoon all.
Flo - A nice pulled pork sandwich with thick cut homefries, and a Coke please. Thanks.
Vinnie - My mitt is in my car, if you have a ball to go along with your enforcer there, we could start a pick-up game.
No? Ok. Probably better, as I have to go back to w*^k anyways.
Just thought I would stop in and let all know I am still around, just crazy busy with w*^k situation.
W*%k - I am on 7 days a week currently, as we are so short handed. While I like the paycheck, I don't like the no time off. Going to miss Berea show this year, I'm afraid.
Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

Thanks Garry the dizziness is essentially gone after "vestibular rehab" at physical therapy. They had me look up down left right and diagonally with my head still and moving, walk forwards and backwards doing the same thing, do figure 8's looking down and a number of balance exercises, sometimes standing on flexible or rounded pads with one or two legs.
Once you complain to a doctor, they have to prove you don't have a brain tumor or send you to a specialist that gets the blame. Two specialists later I got my head scanned.
I forgot to mention Bear's short youtube video. I assume one of the characters was Fatty Arbuckle. I never saw any of his movies and too few of WC Fields's movies. I remember a lot of short movies of Laurel and Hardy. Stan Laurel was a patient of my uncle and he died penniless.
Some of those stunts were outright dangerous. Sad to see them drop the steam engine in the river. There would be campus riots if that scene of the engineer blowing down the engine to scare a diverse group of kids was in a movie today. I got a chuckle out of it.
Evenin' Folks...
Waiting for rain to arrive. We are about three inches shy of the norm here in NE Ohio! So far today only a sprinkle amounting to .01 inch.
BigDaddyI forgot to mention Bear's short youtube video. ...Some of those stunts were outright dangerous.
...Some of those stunts were outright dangerous.
I did too — and I see the LION was up to his shenanigans at 0:50!
I rember reading somewhere about one of Buster Keaton's stunts that was particularly harrowing. One where he was standing and a house wall fell toward him and he happened to be in the exact spot where a window opening allowed the wall to fall without touching him. [spoiler]

Flo, is it all right to come in? OK thanks Flo
Evening Diners!
Flo, Ed, Gary, Jan, Bent, Inch, Ulrich, Galaxy, Steve Otto and I will have a please. Give Rick a RBF as well!
Steve Sorry I over step the dinners rules on the post you deleted! I just watch a video of Las Vegas Shooting and had me up set!
Rick I wished I had your work problem! Right now I miss when I was working 6 days a week. Yea I rather work no days a week but I cannot for see that unless my house Magtag on it!
Work Front Went pass slow to dead stop. Not a single buyer came in today! Had a mother of a 25 year old son come in looking at beds (not a mattres but a bed) while he is out of town. Plus my Paycheck was short $115.00 to boot! Hope I can get that fixed for this coming check.
Trains are running well and I am beat, so later.
Ken
I hate Rust
I woke up way too early this morning, but couldn´t get back to sleeping. I´ll try a mid-day nap to catch up.
Well, we made our way to the beautiful town of Montreux at Lake Geneva. After a stroll through the vieux ville, we head for the train station to catch an eastward train to Aigle, just a few miles down the banks of Lake Geneva. Although a rather small town, Aigle is a hotspot for train lovers, as three different narrow gauge lines originate here - the AOMC, the AL and the ASD. The Swiss name their lines after the places the lines connect - unless they are merged to form networks. So, AOMC stands for Aigle - Ollon - Monthey - Champery Railway, connecting Aigle with the French ski resort town of Champery, AL stands for Aigle - Leysin Railway and ASD for Aigle - Sepey - Les Diablerets Railway. All three are now operated by the tpc group "Transport Publics du Chablais". In 1961, my family spent the holidays in Leysin, but I have only very faint memories of the AL trains.
Now, let´s go for a ride to Champery!
Oh sugar lumps! No chance for a nap! We are in the midst of a bad storm, worse than we ever had before in this place! I am just glad our power is still around, but I can already see some damage to the neighboring buildings. So far, we are safe & sound, though!
Just shot a picture of my layout, which has not seen any work being done on it for the last three weeks! Somehow I don´t feel like messing with it at the moment!
Edit: The worst seems to be over now. There is no damage to the building we live in, but the neighboring house has lost quite a few shingles and there must be a shed without a roof, as the the sheet metal roof is laying in our front yard! I am just glad nobody got hurt when it was hurled into that place!
Good morning ...
Ulrich .... I hope your storm is easing off by now. Your layout looks great, but there probably is more you can do when your are in the mood.
Henry ... I hope the dizziness goes away altogether.
Ed .... I like the Erie's publicity in 1951 of its 100th annivesary.
Burlington had its 100th in 1949, and had some publicity for that. ... Later, in 1964, Burlington celebrated its 100th anniversary of suburban Chicago passenger service in a big way. The celebration included 5632 in gold paint.
Afternoon Diners
Wake up Flo, that better. Yes it much like my job 1 customer in 6 hours! Anyway Flo Ed, Gary, Inch, Brent, Jan, Ulrich, Galaxy and I will have a please.
Not Much To Talk About Today. Did a little running and dropped by K-10 Model Trains for a screw to fix a B&O Covred Hopper. They did not have the need screw but it turns out I had the needed screw? Anyway one more off the RIP track! Only 11 more to go!
Later Ken
The storm yesterday was worse than I thought. 7 people got killed, mainly by trees falling onto cars. a lot of train services had to be suspended and the line from Hamburg to Bremen is down to 1 track instead of 4. Passenger service is still not up.
We are in Geneva today, taaking a tour of the city and while enjoying the chocolate flair of the city, we watch some vintage streetcars roaming the city´s tracks!
Following the tour is a boat trip on Lake Geneva with the old paddle wheeler SIMPLON.
Enjoy!
