Good afternoon all.

Chloe - Cheeseburger and fries,  with a coke please. Thanks.

Steven - Welcome back! Hope you enjoyed your time off.

Cudaken - I should have said those who offer home/renters insurance will most times have a collectables insurance program.

Weather - Cool, dry today, back to snow by end of week. (Probably coming from Lion...)

W**k - National take a model train to work day again! Have, (ready?) 125 in sales... OUCH! Store is @600... Slow, slow, slow...

Hope all are well, and have a good day!

So now I have taken a interest on what people have their TV’s sitting on.

The TV in my man-cave / train room sits on a long shelf made of laminated particle board.  The TV downstairs in the wife's woman-cave / sunroom is on one of those artificial fireplace credenzas.

No political content intended.  In my man-cave, I do not watch the news and I even mute the commercials.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Winter has arrived. It was 44 degrees when I got up this morning and 55 when I went out for my lunchtime ride. 55 is my limit any more--any colder and I just stay home. Used to be I would ride in near freezing weather (yes, it will drop below freezing here in the Valley of the Sun, maybe a dozen times a year) but I am older and wiser, and a bit more of a wuss.

My trains are sitting idle. I am still wrestling with an intermittent short and don't have the time/desire to hunt it down. I need to find the time soon--the grandkids are coming in a few weeks and Old Dude wouldn't be Old Dude without the trains.

(The grandkids call me "Old Dude" by my choice. I wanted a less common moniker. It is pretty hilarious to be in public and see all the elderly men turn and look when one of the grandkids hollers, "Old Dude!" at me.)

My major focus, beside enduring w*%k, is trying to get ready for my solo recital. It looks like I will have about 40 people attending. There are days that I feel pretty good about it and there are days when my brain screams, "What were you thinking!?" One of the main reasons I am doing this is to set an example for the grandkids to do something outside of their comfort zone. I will be relieved when it is over.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, just a refil for my decaf right now....  Thank you Ma'am!

Steven, glad to see you back.  Hope you had a wonderful vacation, and didn't have too mu8chy to "clean up" in the diner here.  (I did see the ones you refered to and figured they wouldn't last long when you returned.....)

For Ulrich.  Our tastes in fine music appear to be similar, my friend.  Thought I would share my favorite Soprano's rendition of one you posted a few days back....  I think I mentioned that Renee and I studied with the same Artist Teacher at Eastman School.  Mine was many years before she was there....  Do wish I could be singing again.  Being deaf is a bummer in that reguard.  I can hear me sing or the accompaniment, but not both at the same time..... Sigh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRaMOka3xzo

Enjoy!

Had to run over to the meeting of one of my Troops tonight to get a needed document to the interm Scoutmaster for rechartering next month.  For some reason attachments from me don't arrive on his computer...  We both use the same service.  I dunno...  I also did get to spend some time on the new section of the layout after getting a bunch of emails sent to the local schools about the MLK Annual Art and Poetry Contest.  So I have been busy as always.

Tomorrow I need to try on the Santa outfit to be sure it will work for me next Saturday at the Museum and later I will be watching my Granddaughters after they get off the bus from school.

Have a great night everyone!

Chamomile tea in an "UNDECORATED" mug, please and thank you.

***Ken, I sold off my goats and mini Zebu cows some time back. Just horses now, all retired pasture ornaments.

***Garry, I'll e-mail you shortly.

***Ray, after all this time you are still having water issues? Hope you can get that pump replaced quickly. On a more positive note, a belated, "Happy Birthday".

Just ordered some HO train stuff over the weekend, first time in a long time. Incentive to get back to work on the expansion tables. Just so much to do and so little enrgy these days.

Looks like the drought is about to end here. Thunderstorms heading this way tonight plus more through Weds.. Yay!

Healing thoughts to those in need.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Royal Crown on the rocks, I will have a Beer and give Rob and Steve anything they want. Really good to see you again Rob. Big Smile

Work Stunk but did get some reading in.

Ed I have only smoked on decoder on a fresh install. That was a few months ago and I did not test the motor like a Dunce I think the reason I have BBQ so many decoders are the following.

1 Run them hard and a lot. I run the layout everyday with out fail for 3 hours plus. I allso like long trains, 30 plus is normal for me. All are free wheeling but a tad over NMRA standerds because of a few remaining 18" turns.

2 Track wiring. There are a few sections that may not past the quarter test. Whlie I don't understand the eleictal theroy behinde it is more than likely the problem.

3 When I BBQ a decoder, normally the motor is BBQ as well. Like I said, I run them hard.

Odd Thing? At this point I have never BBQ a factory installed decoder? Maybe a little more rebust than Digitrax and NCE?

E-8 Board you sent is a good 2 inches shorter than the one it came with.  Good chance you may see it on your door step. Only one plug looks like it might match a sock on the board you sent. When it ran right, it had good sound but other than that it stunk! Could not pull worth a darn and was slooooow! 1 PK 2 E6 could out pull two on these.

gmpullman
Some of those cars I sent you were custom painted by Bev-Bel and IIRC, Greenway

I have some Bev-Bel and I was thinking a long that line when I saw them. Guess that company is gone by now, they did good work.

Think I will set back and watch the video's you folks posted.

 Later, Ken

Italian roast coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please. Thanks, Ken!

Lost one old medium size tree during the storm last night. Rotten trunk, although the upper branches may still make good firewood.

Looks like some HO stuff has already been shipped and will be delivered this week. Christmas comes early this year.Big Smile

Mornin' all!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning.  Over easy on the eggs, Bacon, Homefries, and a double order of the wonderful sour dough toast.  Oh bring over the jar of grape jelly and keep my R&GV RR Mug full with Marakeesh Express darik roast coffee please.

Great to see you Rob!

The neighbors got some of their lighting up recently....

Meanwhile over at my house, I got my decorations finished!

Seems the R&GV RR Museum once again lucked out.  We have just been given LA&L #20 on a long term loan.  She needs some minor work to get up and running I guess, but she should be servicable and in use next summer!

Good Evening!

It´s been a quiet day - icy cold at 30F daytime high, but sunny. Did not do much today, just collecting my tools for tomorrow. My friend Claus will pick me up and take me to his place, where the two of us will work on the Christmas layout for his grandson.

Most of our neighbors have decorated their windows and now we see an army of flickering or blinking lights in all colors. Not really what Petra and I like - we go more for the subtle and more traditional Christmas decoration and lighting.

While searching Youtube for music to listen to I found a recording of The Three Tenors at Terme di Caracalla in Rome 1990. If you care to watch it - somewhere in the crowd you may find me! I was there and I still cherish the grand atmosphere of the event. Luciano Pavarotti was certainly the world´s best tenor and his death left a gap not yet filled!

Enjoy!

Rob - good to see another of us oldtimers finding the way to the place again!

Ray - I like your Christmas decoration - it certainly has a message to it!

Evening guys

couch was delivered earlier this afternoon, old one is at curb awaiting pickup. I wish it could have been donated but it's too far gone to be donated. I have a bulk pickup for the trash for tomorrow. I have been off since Thursday so go back to work tomorrow but it was nice to have some time off. Was a beautiful day out today with highs of 12c which is nice for these parts of Canada at this time of year. Well off to browse the forums

Flo I'll have a cup of decafe and apple pie.

Accomplished nothing but an hour at the gym.  Rained all day and more tomorrow.  Had my mother over for dinner for some take out Chinese. The poor woman can't remember what was said 60 sec ago.  She eats like a bird, it's hard to believe she is not thin as a rail.

I hope Tennessee got some of this rain, the videos are horrific.  Makes you wonder what it was like in the great fires of Baltimore, Chicago and London.

I am plodding through a very long but funny blog about the restoration of Dave Frary's Pennys Middle Div.  http://scottymason.com/pennsy/  I found in another thread of the same name.

No rain here today. There was rain last night, but the forests are so dry it didn't make much difference. The reporting from the fire area has been spotty and contradictory, which is understandable considering the conditions. But whatever the situation really is, it surely isn't good. At least three deaths so far.

evening diners,

whew! what a day.

Prayers to all those in TN affected by the fires. I have a freind on another forum who had to leave with the clothes on his back to get away, The FD came and told them " you must leave now"

He reports that he can see that his house is still standing, they won't let them back in yet. He was afraid of fires starting back up this evening.

On other fronts not much going on, got a call from the theatre as they had an AMP go bad, so I placed a temp one until it is fixed.

Got a " the Rock" rock island  airslide hopper off ebay yesaterday just for giggles.

I will "run" it on my desk at work.

Below is what I set on my desk each year and it is DCC

Dave,

The cooling fan for the unit had failed at sometime ( burned to a crisp) So i suspect that it was that issue that made this let go. How the amp did not blow a ton of other stuff i do not know. One previous to this looked like a welding rod had been touched to the insides. Luckily this one did not do that and had just went poof on Sunday.

Not bad track record for being powered on 14 years straight. I am going to order new fans for the other amps in the rack as they are only $10.

supposed to get cooold here tomorrow.

i will set up the desktop rr tomorrow at work.

Good morning, everybody .

Does anybody have plans for working on their layouts and/or trains in December?

Recently, I have been working on some used freght cars and passenger cars I acquired without spending much money. .... Last night I was working on a Tyco 50' flat car. It now has new trucks, new body mounted couplers, and new paint. I removed unwanted stuff that was on the deck. Next, it needs decals, weathering and a load.

Hey all

Started digging footings and basment yesterday and we have already hit a problem. very BIG ROCKS - Bang Head this is gonna be expensive. Have to get a Hoe ram out and jack hammer the basement in Sigh glad I will be gone during the day ! Those things are LOUD.

Ken - is your email still the same ? Can you PM me the current one so I can make sure I have the correct one ? Thanks I would greatly appreciate that. Maybe you can email me a picture of teh B&O cars in service ?

MoeLarry - Do you get many comments on the trains on the desk ?

CG - Are you in danger of getting hit by the fires ?

Henry - I am sorry to hear that about your mom. That is hard to deal with when our parents reach that point.

Jeremy - What kind of tree do you put up ? Real or artificial ?

Ulrich - What type of decorations do you prefer ? I have grown up with mostly "blinky" lights. What have I missed ?

Howmus - Funny pictures. I hate putting up lights. That looks like my efforts.

Rob - Nice - early Christmas. What else is Santa bringing you ?

V8 - How many guns do you have ? PM with what you are selling. I am looking for a few things.

Ed - WOW - 3 cent stamps on the card. Been a LONG time since I have seen mail that cheap !

Richard - LOL - "what are you thinking" we all have that though on occasion. I did yesterday when I finally realized the start of my life long dream. To have room deicated for trains. As I was watching the excavation start and I started thinking about the cost and teh changes to teh landscape my stomach did flip flops and jitters set in...Strange I do this for a living. It caught me off gaurd.

Mr. B - Try recording your shows. Then instead of muting you can fast forward through the commercials ! Big Smile

FRRYKid - Do the lego trains run ? I have seen some you tube videos where they actually run.

Lion - What do you all do where you are at for Christmas services ?

Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a cup of hot chocolate to keep me warm at the moment, please.

Hi Rob, Mr. Fussy, the handiman, will be here tomorrow to replace the sump pump for me.

Went over to the barber shop to get my hairs trimmed back....  He usually complains that business is slow.  Today I walk in and he has 5 people waiting before me...  LOL  I will be leaving for Canandaigua in a few minutes.  Have to drop off a couple thousand in checks to the bank that handles our 501c account for the MLK committee.  Then I will spend the next few hours at my sister's house running her lawn mower out of gas and putting it down in her cellar for the winter.  I get to do this every year now for her.  AngrySigh

Dark and cloudy outside today.  Supposed to be some liquid sunshine this afternoon as well.  Likely will appear about the time I get my sister's lawnmower running.....

Garry asked who has plans for working on their layouts...  I sure hope so!  I am several years behind where I thought I would be back, ah, several years ago. Whistling

Looks like the Museum will be running one or two more Saturdays of "Santa Trains".  Seems we have completely sold out the runs this coming Saturday.  They only advertised on social media for that.  I can do the Jolly Old Elf routine for one of the other two Saturdays but not the third.

Have a great day out there!

At least on the trains side. I've got the following: an engine house that needs finishing (need to get more lacquer thinner from the layout as I don't like keeping it in town because it smells too much), two boxcars (One that needs painting to correct incorrect details and adding a cleaner unit. Finally getting close to getting the color mixed. The other one needs new doors painted and installed to match the prototype. That paint had to be ordered to match the car. The instructions actually had what paint was used on the car.), weathering on another car and finish a sand tower. I also discovered that I will, at some point, need to break a promise I made to myself: I need to get two SD40-2s for coal service. The engines I thought were right aren't but I still can use them for general freight.

I also most likely will be able to get rid of an engine that I bought in error. It's too new for my era. I found someone that wants it and was unable to find one. (Also will help with the budget for the 40-2s.)

Garry,

I plan to work on some cars that I either put together in a hurry or broke things off of them hauling them to modualr train shows.

I may convert some more Athearn blue box to DCC. On my previous ones I used LED's from christmas lights I bought cheap at dollar general to make headlights. they work really well.

I would like to add interiors to caboose.( cabeese)

I am also going to make me some signals to see if I can.
