Do you buy ready made or assemble yourself trees from woodland ? Judging by the price of teh trees Woodland is VERY proud of there threes !
Morning diners,
Well last night Charles decided to torn up the bathroom floor tile paper. It was his safe haven but now I believe his safe place will be a tied up against a tree.
Has anyone noticed that Atlas detailed more on their freight cars. I noticed they painted the hub caps on the wheels of their trailers, and painted a silver lining on the bottom.

JoeinPAThe Lion's location but that should be in another location: "Lion in Hiding"
: )
LIONS hide in Lotsa Places. He makes the LION in HIDING thread only when him isa hiding on the model railroad. Over on the trains side, he only appears when he his hiding on the NYCT. But then that image is repeated to the diner, just so diners can keep uo with the LION.
Today him will appear on the layout, and so in the "in HIDING" thread.
Of course him always appears on the Sub chat Forum,.

It's gonna be 97 degrees here today, and only a bit cooler through the weekend. I'm not riding my bike today. I think I'll go for a walk before it gets too much hotter, but nothing strenuous outdoors. The gym is nice and cool inside, so I may go there.
The wife is in Florida. They've closed the ocean where she is to swimmers. I think it's an algae problem from the river.

Good mornimng.
Terry ... Thanks for the video of making trees. .... That is an easy way to make realistic trees.
I'm progressing with my scenry project. I have added trees, but mine are Woodland Scenics products.

Morning all
Anyone hear from Ulrich ? I am very worried about him. This is not normal for him to not be in the diner early.
Dave - Welcome back from vacation. Glad the "Baaares" were eating fish and not you two !
Ed - LOL "Little closer to the request window" FYI since Jesus went to the cross we can all go to the request window and are as close as anyone else. Pretty nice eh ? Thank you though for the request though all the prayers are needed and appreciated.
V8 - Hey did you find a J in that roundhouse/Shed ? How many years in the past did the shed get painted ?
Ken - Any post set yet ?
Howmus - Doc or Dentist ? Free is always good
Lion - Is that you laying on the steps ?
ATSFGuy - Model power is marketed for the lower end of the hobby. They are generally not as detailed as some of the higher end products
FRRYKid - Thanks I look forward to the photo. That will be nice !

Good morning! Rain and muggy. looks like a train day!!
Sorry about the rocket train video! The wife was shooting it while I ran train. So, her fault!
I made 125 trees before I ran out of green blend fine ground foam. Here's the cost breakdown:
2 cans aquanet hairspray...$6.00
1 bottle WS foam... $11.00
about a half can spray paint.$2.00
Total..... $19.00
Do the math and it works out to about $.15/tree! Not bad. There's another 70 or so ready for foam, so the paint estimate includes those.
That's all for now! Terry

Hi gang!
Just got back from a great trip to British Columbia (more on that later) so sorry if some of my comments are a bit late coming.
Ulrich:
Nice intro. I'm glad to see the RIP post even though it is a bit saddening to think of the loss of those great modellers.
Happy B'day!
Your layout continues to get better and I'm looking forward to seeing the details your are planning come to life.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Ed!
Congrats on the retirement!! I don't miss working one little bit! Happy B'day too!
Brent:
Congratulations to your kids!!! Obviously they come from good stock!
Brent and Richard:
Dianne and I just had some great Orca encounters too. I'll detail them later.
Terry:
I was wondering just exactly what Apollo Mission the first few seconds of your video were taken from?!? Seriously, great video and great layout! I love the trees.
Sanny Ken:
Sorry about your FIL.
Cuda Ken:
Sorry about your lower region predicament. Get well soon.
Lot's of other great work folks! Our thoughts are with those in need.
Just a few details from our trip to British Columbia:
We flew into Sailcone's Grizzly Bear Lodge on Minstrel Island, which is just off the mainland about even with the top of Vancouver Island, for two days of nature viewing. We had a female Grizzly and two 2 year old cubs within 80'. No, we weren't being stupid. We had been sitting still in the same spot for a while (in a boat). They were chasing salmon downstream and ran up to us. We had a professional guide who had done this many times (bear spray at the ready). The bears were focused on catching salmon so they paid us no heed, but it was still a bit disconcerting to have them run up that close.
We had Orcas swim right under our boat just like in Brent's video. I got some videos of them but the quality is a bit lacking.
We saw several Humpback whales, including two breaching, plus a huge variety of other wildlife. We saw too many Bald Eagles to count. We rarely see them close to home. Being bird watchers, we were thrilled!
We found a couple of great B&Bs, one on the Sunshine Coast and the other just north of Nanaimo. If anybody wants the details on those or the lodge please send me a PM.
Regards.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Regarding Model Power, those trains look very toy like and unrealistic when compared to the Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann, BLI, Rivarossi, MTH, Walthers, Intermoutain, Roundhouse, and Kato models.
I doubt they can be converted to run on DCC.
Just to clarify, I actually have two different types of passenger trains.
The three tourist trains that use the wye that was finished on the expansion I mentioned earlier are one type. The engines are Model Power 2-6-0 steamers. The first is a puller coming out of the station (the full train can't handle a 3% circular climb the get the right height for bridges even with the drivers Snotted. {Small section built in my apartment and been tested.} It would pull off at the end of a planned passing siding.) The second 2-6-0 handles the train solo after the climb. The passenger cars are all Roundhouse 34' Overtons in NP paint. They consist of a combine as a crew car (runs backward with seats in front and the baggage in back), a full baggage car, three coach cars and an observation. I will probably take a picture of one of those trains sitting in front of the passenger station.
The train I mentioned with the Athearn cars is the main passenger service for the FRRY. (Yes I realize that Amtrak took over most of the passenger service for the US in '72 or so.) I decided that they could be used for short run. (Rich owner of the railroad like Dennis Washington with Montana Rail Link.) I would probably set the equipment for that train on my test track.
FRRYKid,
Can we see some pics please?
I'm sure this passenger tourist train is a beauty.
The Auto Train used the Big Domes from the Santa Fe, they allowed front end viewing and were more comfortable unlike the Milwaukee Road Super Domes.
yougottawanta FRRYKid - I laughed out loud ! Sandel tanks on a Schwinn I can see it now ! I think the pink and green locomotive tribute is nice.

I will have to take a picture of it for the group. The only picture I have doesn't have the current lettering or the upgraded air horn on it either. (I also have a caboose in that same scheme.)
PM Railfan FRRy - Think Auto-Train, second hand Dome cars! Its got purple in it, and those cars left along time ago. Auto-Train service that is. Isnt Montana 'big sky country'? What better way to see it than in a Dome car. Though they are rather long and tall cars. Douglas

Montana is known as "Big Sky Country." I already have passenger service that includes a dome car, all in the same scheme inspired by the Pine Tree (Butter Knife/Original) Passenger Scheme of the old NP.
The cars are Athearn streamline passenger cars: Two coaches, a baggage car, the afore mention dome, a diner, and two cars modified to become steam generator cars that stump people as to their ancestry. The dome car, like the rest of the fleet, have been weight upgraded (Adair kits). It was misplaced and forgotten about in my old bedroom at the ranch. The car had gotten buried around my old desk. It ended up being quite the treasure box: A couple of old boxcars that weren't useable, a couple bottles of paint that were and the dome car and one of the other passenger cars (I think the baggage car) that I had completely forgotten about.
Can't sleep, wanted to entertain myself on this board.
You're probably right, I can find the photo on google if I type in the lead locomotive number or search long enough.

ATSF Guy, Maybe Ken turned in for the night. I recognized that shot from the Library Of Congress collection.

V8Vega I installed this shed 20 some years ago and I have found things put in there then and not touched since.
Vega, You didn't find—maybe—a New York Central Hudson or Niagara in that shed, did you?
Yep, Ken. The wedding was great! Small group but very nice ceremony. The Reverend sat next to me at the reception and I did ask for prayers for YGW, Ulrich and for you, too, Ken. I thought maybe he could get me a little closer to the request window
Ken, Sent you a PM WITH tracking numbers!
Well, no food for me tonight, Flo. Maybe a cuppa joe with just a spritz of Kahlua in it. The food was excellent! The reception was at a country club, no less
Take care, all,
Ed
True, I can't see him.

Flo, a please. No, I don't think Ed will be stopping by, he is at his son's wedding. If the Buick Guy drops by give him a round cushion to sit on and a brew as well.
Well, I was right I'am sick! Left eye is still watering but I don't feel any pressuer today. But still felt like caboose most of the day and napped a lot.
Yard Wars Well I have wood! Don't hit me Vinney, it for the fences! Lowes dropped it off around noon, along with a pallet of cement. The installer should be here at the house around 7:30 AM to install the post.
Daughter Health Front First thank you all for asking! But at this point you folks know as much as I. She has not seen the other Dr that the surgon wanted her to see. She was told that would be in Dec?
Wish I felt like typing more, but I sure do not feel great tonight.
Ken

Hi everybody.
88f and really humid. under a severe t-storm watch.
Thanks for the comments on the trees. They are all goldenrod, trimmed and trunks painted. This short video shows how easy they are to make:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TNNV8vVNRo
Pretty quick, too. I'm working on a cost/tree analysis to find out the price, not including my labor. I think it's fun, not work!
That's about it for now!

Good Afternoon,
Off yesterday, today and tomorrow, back to work on friday
Broadwaylion: Where is this photo from? looks fantastic!
Afternoon folks,
Chloe, a nice tall glass of lemonade would suit me well at the moment!
Sunny with a few clouds now and then outside right now. Should be another fairly good day for making electricity... It is hot out there.... (How hot is it?) It is so hot and dry that I just saw a pair of trees fighting over a dog.... The weather guessers are promising a couple three days of thunderboomers coming up. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are supposed to be blessed with storms... We sure do need it!
I saw another yellowjacket going in the wall of the house on the deck. Have already emptied a can and a half of the Pyrethryn Wasp Spray into where they are entering. Killed about 20 or so wasps, but the main nest must be too far in the wall to be completely effective. Since I will have 20 or so people sitting on and near the deck later this month, I gave up and called the exterminator. He will be here tomorrow morning. Likely will treat with a powder (Sevin???) that they will track back into the nest... That should take care of them.
Dentist appt.: Had mostly fruit for lunch. That consisted of a banana, some strawberries, and a bottle of CherryBundy Lite. Decided to finish up with a Werthers Original candy for desert. Chew, chew, crunch...... Crown came out of place mixed with the chunck of candy.... Took it with me when I went over for teeth cleaning... The Doc put it back in for me. No charge.
Back to cleaning up the place....

Richard - That is funny ! "I justed decided my new birth year is 38 BG"
Angel - I know of two or three who that happened to, the doctors told my dad if you do not get up your blood actual does not pump as well and therefor stuff "settles" and bad stuff follows ( at least that is my translation of his doc terms.
Like an old steam engine once it stops it rust ups and disintergrates. Keep the fire going, wheels moving, greased and she will last a lot longer if you keep it serviced.
yougottawanta. . .Richard - How did you think to look for a company who does just that ? I didnt have a clue there are comanies who just do that ! . . .
How did we ever survive without Google? (I justed decided my new birth year is 38 BG -- "Before Google")
Richard
Afternoon Diners,
I got a little side track going thru the diner. I looking at the old railroad pictures at I never noticed before.
The dogs will now be walking separately than together. The new one acts up and continues the chaos and trying to control both of them.
YGW- How many people did you know who died being couch potatoes?
Heartland Division CB&Q FRRY .... The DT&I owned a group of purple 86' auto parts cars. This one is a bit rusty.
FRRY .... The DT&I owned a group of purple 86' auto parts cars. This one is a bit rusty.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't see how I would properly put an auto parts car in my trains in Eastern Montana. Additionally, given the trackage I have, I don't think that long of a car would track properly. (18"R in one mainline tunnel.)
