It was not a wisdom tooth and it was an upper tooth anyway. It is one of the regular molars. The other thing that didn't help was I was told that my teeth have a tripod root system.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Pumpkin Flax Organic Granola with fresh blueberries and a large pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR mug please.

FRRYKid
A few days after the tooth was pulled, I had to call the office of the surgeon back and ask them to please send down a script for a little stronger pain killer as what they suggested non-prescription wasn't helping.

Sounds like it might have been a Wisdon tooth?  The Bi-cuspid I had pulled back several years ago now I didn't feel at all and needed no pain killers as it healed.  Had a Dry socket with one of the Wisdom Teeth.....  Don't ask!  Hope it heals up without any more problem.

Already did a day's w*rk here for the MLK Committee...  Several students just got to college and want their scholarship $$$ to pay bills.  Also working on items for the Boy Scout Training coming up for the Handicapped unit.

Currently 71°F outside and will be going down to 53°F overnight.  Hoping the extreem heat we have had for the last 2 and a half months is coming to an end.  Looking outside, I should mow the lawn again as it has sprung to life after the rain yesterday (quarter of an inch...).  Only good thing is the ragweed appears to be almost non-existant this year with the drought.....

Hope all of you have a great day!

Heartland Division CB&Q

This morning, I had 3 teeth extracted.  The doctor wanted to put me to sleep, but I asked to have a local anesthetic instead.

I remember when I had to have a tooth pulled. Let's just say I learned a new definition for dentist. D-E-N-T-I-S-T = T-O-R-T-U-R-E. (Caps intended as is done when something is being spelled. I think the oral surgeon waited too long to pull the tooth. The novacaine started to wear off. I have a fairly fast metabolism.) After I had the tooth pulled, I ended up going to work. My store manager wanted me to help throw freight from the truck later that afternoon. I told her that I just had a tooth pulled earlier that day. She responded that I didn't have to worry about it. (She was surprised that had even had come to work.) A few days after the tooth was pulled, I had to call the office of the surgeon back and ask them to please send down a script for a little stronger pain killer as what they suggested non-prescription wasn't helping.

Hobby Front: Got the bridge pieces for the access road to the new engine house and got the grooves filled in so that the bridge deck looks like concrete. I will end up using an image from an MR back issue for installing the support for the bridge. (February 09. The article on modeling water. Side note: Until a few weeks ago I didn't even realize that the engine on the cover is a GP30 even though I had even looking at prototype pics of that engine for quite a while.)

Hello Railfans!

Flo - fetch me up a bowl of those dumplins, darlin. Put me a reservation in for seconds!

Vinnie - Only thing wrong with that picture was the bowl was too small. You folks must eat purty good in the MR cafeteria. Cant wait to see yalls dessert tray! Chef

Ken - I try to get here as often as I can. Meanwhile, drink this Beer whilest i tells ya where to be findin the paint program.

The straight path to it is "C:\Windows\System32\" and look for filename "MSPaint.Exe".

Or, you could just call one evening and I can talk you through it in about one minute.

The following picture is a layout i did with Atlas software, snapshot the finished layout, pasted into paint, and decorated it. Nothing grandios, but effective.

Steven .... I would love to eat it.... Thanks.... I could not eat all day.

V8 .... You have a valid point about anesthisia being dangeorus. Also, if a patient has a problem it is best to be in a hospital instead of in the oral surgeon's office.

good night, everbody...

Good Afternoon,

Feeling a little tired today as we were up at 5 a.m. to get ready for the first fall 'Birding and Breakfast' at the nearby nature reserve.  Only saw 24 species but we did see  2 firsts for us.

Say is any of Steve's Tuna Cassarole left?  I actually like the stuff. It was the only dish that was edible when I was in first year university staying in residence. Gosh that was 50 years ago this fall. Yikes where does the time go.

Not much on the agenda for the rest of the day. Think we might just flop in front of the TV tonight.  Perhaps running trains would be a good idea too. I was running a BLI light mike a few weeks ago and then just stopped it on the mainline. Started it up a couple of days ago and the chuff sound had disappeared. I had to do a re-set and then adjust all the CVs again. It is working again. I like the loco as it runs very well and just crawls on speed step 1.

LION is home from vacation, pictures may appear next month : )

LION took AMTK from MOT to CHI to WAS to RMT

Stayed with my brother in Washington (NC).  We burried father on Monday, much of the family was there.

I drove out to Cape Hatteras, saw the light house, but did not go up. It is 12 stories of twisty stairs, and I have enough troubble just getting up two flighs to the train room.

I also drove down to Willmington to see the battleship North Carolina. A nice preservation job, self guided tour through most of the thing. Not at all like the aircraft carriers I was stationed on. Looked very small to me, crew accommodations were primative, the gun turrets took up most of the space inside of  the ship.

Came home with time to spend in Washington, saw the Metro, yawn, you seen one Metro station, you have seen them all, if you have seen one metro train, then you have seen them all. Inspite of the heat and humidity, I did walk around the White House, and had a tour of Congress. Was melted by the time I got onto another AMTK train to CHI.

In Chicago, I did spend some time on the CTA and did get many pictures, and did make it back to Onion Station for my connection with the Empire Builder. What a relief to get off in North Dakota with its civilized weather.

Good afternoon Diners!

Zoe, I think a quick, healthy, snack is in order. How about a plate of French fries smothered in gravy, Poutine style, and a Diet Coke! Gotta watch those calories, you know.

Angelo, Here's what I have in mind for the bay window. As delivered (first lot anyway).

http://original.trainlife.com/articles/126/modeling-a-new-york-central-bay-window-steel-caboose

Scroll down to photos. The other one will be similar. It is a later rebuild of the 19xxx series caboose with plywood sides added.

http://www.canadasouthern.com/caso/images/nyc-19008.jpg

Ken, glad you are getting somewhere with the BLI QSI decoders. Usually I'll mute the bell on my B units since a) they didn't have bells anyway and b) no matter how accurate the timing is in the chip, they get out of synch and sound goofy.

The horn I might leave active just to give it a little more "presence" and a slight echo effect. IMHO, the QSI horns sounded pretty good.

Not much else to report. Mrs. Pullman is gathering entries to take to the Great Geauga County Fair (Ohio's Oldest 1823) She likes to enter craft items and produce. She usually comes home with a fist-full of ribbons. Yes

Two years ago she mentioned that there was a category for railroad memorabilia and did I have anything I wanted to contribute. I gave it a little thought and came up with a New York Central conductor's cap, ticket punch, some NYC tickets and envelope and a Pullman car diagram with names filled in.

It got "Best Of Show" in that category! Big Smile I told Mrs. Pullman it was just beginners' luck and she got a Best of Show the following year... so everyone was happy!

A few passing showers has provided us with .71" of rainThumbs Up finally. Maybe I can get to the train room early tonight!

Hope I didn't get any gravy on my tie, should have used a bib! Dinner

Check in later, Ed

Hi Garry,    I feel for you, and hope the healing is quick.

When they were getting me ready for the radiation for my tongue and throat Cancer, they insisted that I have the rest of my teeth out. which were nine (9) on the bottom. They all came out in about forty minutes with only a local. I must give him a thumbs up though, as it went really smooth and I really dislike Dentists.

Johnboy out..............and not quite gumming it as I still have my full top dentures

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, 2 cold ones in the B&O F7 mugs for Ed and I. If the Buck Guy shows up give him one as well.

Pretty beat today. Took Sue to get one of her knees injected with a Gel that will help with her knee pain. Luckly it was cooler today, the car we are using does not have working A/C.

Stopped at Harbour Freight to buy a mider saw. (spell check) They had one that I thought would do the job I need to do for $89.99 and I had a 20% off coupon. Then I found out that none of them came with Blades, and the Blades where $32.00? So I did not buy one, guess I am back to cutting the pickets the hard way.

Computer Help Please. Guess I just forgot how to use MS Paint, or should I say how to find it? I had used it at one time when I was playing with layout ideas.

But for life of me, I have no clue how did it? Whistling I was able to save the Decoder Pro CV's for the F7's, but could not turn them to a JPG?

 B&O Front.

Played with the sound settings of the F7's. Getting the sound more to the way I like it. Need to read up on the CV's on the sound more so I can progam while they are running. One of the engines (think it is the B unit) sounds like it has a ghost bell ring, or like some one is beating on a thick metal plate with a hammer. Not very loud and not distracting! Just there and I wonder why it is there?

B&O Sprung Truck Coal Cars. Bang Head Got end of the sprung truck fairly free wheeling with the PK 2000 wheels! Went to the other end, side frame fell off! Bang Head Guess it is time to ask for help on the main page!

Time to fiddle with some more coal cars.

 Ken

Brunhilda, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Just a friendly note to say I'm still alive and kicking.

Missed the train show a few weeks ago.  Wanted to go and pickup something i didnt last time.  Probably all gone now.

Oh well, another day.  At least I still have another day.

Afternoon Diners,

Nothing much waiting for packages.

Ed- Are those cabooses going to be repainted into prototypical colors or a fictional railroad.

Garry- Having three teeth out, are you getting a bridge? Make sure to eat plenty of ice cream.

Mornin'...........  Ah???  Hmmm....  Guess it is now lunch time plus.  Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a refill of my dark roast coffee please...  Thank you Ma'am!

It's a lovely day here in the Finger Lakes today! As in, been raining all morning.  Nice easy soaking rain.  What we have been missing for several months now.  probably too little, too late to help the farmers, but still great to see oputside.

Garry, OUCH!!!  Hope you get rid of the soreness quickly.  I have never had more than one extracted at a time, except for the removal of the "wisdom" teeth.  That was a really bad experience.  Had a "Dry Socket" and had to do my Spring concert at School two days after the surgery (Wednesday evening)!  Didn't think I was going to get through that!  Took the rest of the week off sick.

Still putting stuff away from the party last Saturday.  May actually do some Model Railroading this afternoon.

Later!

Had an odd morning this morning (Tuesday). Mom managed to scramble the screen on the desktop of the Windows 8 computer that she & Dad have out at the ranch. (No one can seem to figure out how she managed to do it. She can do FB somewhat, play games, and buy books and music. Other than that, she is computer-illiterate.) Had to go out real quick to fix the problem before I went to work. Managed to solve the problem in about ten minutes or so. (Mom had me walk her thought the proccess again so that she could write it down so that she can fix it herself the next time she does it.) Of course in the process Dad wanted me to fix the icons on the screen. After a minor translation error (he first said rows and then after I moved the icons into rows he then said he wanted them in columns (Bang Head) ), took care of that. Positive, however, got to opportunity to put a few new items on the layout and to check on how the river had dried. I found a few spots where I will need to put some additional covering as the screen is still exposed. (For Sunday.) And Mom bought me lunch. New blender and construction adhesive picked up when I got off work.

Mentioning Labor Day weekend Sunday, it will be the last Sunday I will be modeling for a few weeks. The following two Sundays I will be occupied with other items (Railroad-related but not on the layout). It's also getting close to the point where it could get too cold to do work on the layout itself. (Might finally get a few non-layout projects done.)

Hello Fellow Diners...

Ken! I see that ice-cold B&O mug already sitting on the counter! Nice touch!

When I first walked in here earlier this month I said that I probably wouldn't comment on the weather much. Strike that! This summer has been so hot, muggy and rainless that it deserves comment. Every time the learned experts predict rain it never materalizes! My pond is down about 18". Some folks around here are experiencing dry water wells!

yougottawanta
Also please set everyone up for whatever breakfaxt they want. panckes, steak and eggs, grits, scrapple, oatmeal ( yuck ) or whatever they want.

YGW, did I read that right? Scrapple=yummy and Oatmeal= yuck? Scrapple?

Yum, sure makes me want to grab a fork and dig in! Ponhaws is, roughly translated, Pan Rabbit.

Chloe, You can give my portion of scrapple to YGW, I'll settle for something without all those piggy parts in it. How about some eggs and sausage Whistling

Anybody remember the All In The Family episode where Archie refused to eat beef tongue? "I ain't eatin' anything that came out of a cow's mouth! Edith, make me some eggs!"

BigDaddy
The DCC board seems dead, no reset possible. It's the NCE basic board DA-SR in an old Atlas RS1.

Henry, I have had the same experience with the DA-SR decoders. I seem to recall getting a bulk pack (6 or maybe it was 10?) within a few months about half of them were toast. I couldn't find any information on how to do a factory reset on the silly things either. Finally ripped them all out. I don't think I have bought a NCE decoder since. I may still have a few engines with other NCE decoders but very few.

Reminder, NCE decoder reset is CV 30=2

I'm glad you are making some headway on those F units, Ken! Thanks to Douglas, PM Railfan's explanation of the old "print Screen" key. I use PhotoShop Elements 11 and there's a selection to "Open New Image From Clipboard" and the rest is basic editing.

A screen capture can be pretty handy if you want to copy, for your own use, an enlarged portion of a photo, print or text. Try it, you'll like it!

Maybe this will help you when the time comes to reset that QSI decoder (page 2)

http://www.nmra.org/sites/default/files/sr201402_dcc.pdf

Hope it helps, Ken!

I have been finally getting around to some projects that have been collecting dust in the work room for years.

Got a pair of NYC cabeeses painted finally. Don't they look like chocolate?

I didn't drill that huge hole by the left marker lamp bracket. A previous owner had attempted to wire lighted markers using grain-of-wheat bulbs with something like 18 gauge wire on them! Hopefully I'll be able to mount a marker lamp to cover the hole.

I managed to get some peeps into the first Broadway P70. I'm mostly using the "Wehonest" ebay (i.e. cheap!) figures. The portly guy with the red ball cap was pre-amputated from a Walthers/Preiser bus passenger set. I've got eight cars to populate and I really can't afford Preiser figures at about $2/head!

I think a few of the figures scale out bigger than HO so I'm just selecting the smaller ones.

Well, I've used up my share of WWW bandwidth for the day. I hope everyone is getting through the week in a safe, healthy and tolerable, if not, happy manner.

Prayers and good cheer to all who may be in need Angel

Thanks for picking up the tab, DER!

Regards, Ed

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer in a B&O F7 mug and give the Buick Guy a Beer as well. Pss, Flo use my Hemi Rules mug. Smile, Wink & Grin

Nothing really to talk about. Work was boring and Slooow, wound on my foot is looking good and the trains are being nice to me! Big Smile Ed you have no idea how much I am enjoying the B&O F 7's!

Dennis Far as kind of car I am looking for, anything under $3500 that is not a POS! The 2002 Dodge I saw with the blowen head was $3000 and needs a hook to bring it home! Or a 2002 Olds, 112,000 miles for $1250. Needs new uni-hubs and has a dead miss on #4. Could be as simple as a new plug! Or coil pack, burnt vlave, flat cam, hole in the piston, bad springs and the list goes on and on!

Douglas Thanks for the tip and I will give it a try! Yes Wish you made it to the dinner more often!

 B&O Front

Ed still not sure what is up with the missing CV6 but BOY I love the F7's! Maybe be doing a hard re-set might be the way to go. Sometimes the decoders do not do what I want when I hit a F button. Some radom sounds like Dynatmic Brakes start working? Sometimes when I hit F-8 only one engine will mute? (Have mute a 35%) Still love them, what a great gift Santa! Beats the underware I got when I was 14 years old. What parnet in there right mind would give there 14 year old son underware for Christams? Whistling

YGW Have another B&O coal car on the rails! I am now working on getting a Sprung Truck on the rail with the orginal turck. The sprung trucks sure do twist unlike the current trucks used. I have no idea if that is good or bad, but sure is driffrent. I hope the Modler that did these cars is looking down from the great Round House in the sky with a Big Smile on there face.

Time to look for a use car again, Ken

Garry,

This looks like the former Golden State Route (The surroundings and bland scenery give it away).  Correct me If i'm wrong but the lead unit #1474 is a GP40M-2.

Yes ... The location is a few miles west of Casa Grande...

Hello Railfans!

Top of the morning to ya! Bright, sunny, hot day on tap here (like I get any other kind Bang Head). Hope everybody is doing ok, best wishes to those who are not. Happy Birthday (belated for those who've past) to those who survived another year on this rock.

In general - Heres a computer tip for those who may wish to know. Ken, above, asked how to post a picture of his JMRI screen. For those who wish to capture what you see on your screens.... heres a few ways to do this. (since i cant ever get any railroading done i might as well share what else i know).

There are a few ways to do this. Yourself, or with a program. Lets start with the easy stuff - yourself. BTW, this is for Windows users. Im not even sure Apple products can take pictures, much less display them (jab jab).

First, take a look at your keyboard. Look for a key that says "Print Screen" or "Prt Scr" or "Prt Scn" for short. Pressing this key will take an instant 'snapshot' of whats on your screen. But where does it go? Pressing the key gives no indication anything has happened. But indeed it has, so dont be fooled and keep pressing it.

The screenshot is being held on the 'clipboard' which is nothing more than a fancy word for 'in memory' (a place in your puter you cant see per se). This is a temporary area for data to be stored. And right now, thats all your screenshot is.... temporary data. It needs to be saved. If you press the key again before saving the first shot/keypress.... your first shot will be lost and essentially replaced with the next consecutive shot.

To save screenshots you must start any Windows program that has "paste" ability. Naturally since we are working with a picture you would want to start the Microsoft 'Paint' program. Though your screenshot could just as easily be pasted into Word, Excel, Corel, Adobe, and the list goes on.

By pasting into Paint, or other graphics program, you get the ability of working with the picture before you save it. IE:cropping, coloring, editing, textwork, etc.

Once you get the program of choice running, simply 'paste' your screenshot into the program. Then save. Voila, its that simple. So, if we use Ken as an example..... heres the steps to go from screenshot to MR post:

1) get subject matter on screen.

2) press 'print screen' key.

3) paste into program like MS 'Paint'.

4) save picture as you would a normal paint picture.

5) upload to your favorite host (photobucket, etc).

6) post picture into MR thread as youve always done.

Its that simple.

Other methods include "Right-Clicking" on a screen object (such as a picture or highlighted text) and a small pop up menu will appear. Select 'copy'. Now paste it into a program as listed above.

Third party programs can be used to also capture screenshots. These programs are simple to use, yet give you more choices than the above built in 'Prt Scn' feature. For example, some programs will let you select the area of the screen you want to take a snapshot of, so you dont have to edit the picture before saving. Prt Scr just takes the whole display.

Some programs will give you the choice of menu picture (snapshot of a selected menu only), the master window (the main window on your screen that is above all others), the work area (everything in picture BUT menus), and the list goes on.

There are some programs that will even take the snapshot for you, save it, and upload it all in one click. By uplaod I mean upload to disgracebook, twitts, or other social media site. NO ONE to this day has figured out MR is a viable social site. So dont expect to get a program that will load pics here automatically.

Thats pretty much it. Simple huh? You should know this does not work for video. It will only take a snapshot of the frame being displayed at that time, not the video itself. And ofcourse, no snapshot program takes snapshots of sound, lol, so dont ask.

To get good snapshots from videos, Windows users should have Video LAN, or "VLC" as its commonly called. This is probably the best video player software in the world. Its free, open sourced, coded by actual programmers, and decades old. Its proven. And it has snapshot features built in. Along with MANY other usable features! It is not a desktop picture snapper. Its for videos. Prt Scn is your desktop snapper.

Bare in mind one thing -  snapshotting is a powerful feature. It doesnt care what your taking a picture of. So, be mindful of copyrighted material. Website programmers have the ability to 'block' certain snapshot features like the 'right click' feature. They do this to protect their data. However, at all times.... the Prt Scr feature works no matter what. Its up to you to be respectful here.

Hope this helps those in need. Please tune in again next week for our installment on: Gas Powered Blenders and watermelon flavoured martinis, featuring guest host Gallegher.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy eggs, homefries, bacon, and a double order of sourdough bread.  Oh a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee would be nice as well....

A sunny day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS today.  Today should get the total for the month of solar power up to what the month was last year, and tomorrow will put it up at the average for the total months of August so far (4 years).....

Today will mostly be put away stuff from the party and the meeting yesterday day.  The lady that helped organize and put on the party will be stopping by this afternoon to pick up a few things she left here over the weekend.  later I hope to get some more scenery done on the new area of the layout.  Still waiting to hear about my order to Lappler Lumber....  Had hoped to get it before now.  It is now alomst a month since I placed the order and they said I should expect it in 2 or three weeks....  Grrrrrrrrr!  Can't finish uop the scenery un till I create the rest of the fence for the pastuer up there.  Then I can finish thyat part and get the rest of the plywood in plce to do trackwork.

Have a great day out there!

Morning?...

My Burlington Northern hoppers are taking a small detour from Kansas City to Dulles in Virginia. I don't know where they're going to next but I hope to their original destination. (It's like tracking a real freight car across the country.)

I hope you guys are doing okay since its going to the start of flu season.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please.

Sorry I have been MIA last few days. Looking for a car is a pain in the caboose! Plus my wife cannot understand why I have not bought one by now! She just not get it, you have to be carefull when you are buying a $3,000.00 used car! I am shocked at what people think you should pay for say a 2002 Dodge with a blown head gasket!

Are you confusing F6 on the throttle with CV6 in the decoder programming?

Ed How did you post the JMRI screen? I sure wish I could post what mine looks like! I swear there is no CV 6 showing on the CV page! In fact, your screen shows CV2 as 1. Mine reads CV2 as 32? I know I have not changed that CV. I do know what a F button is for, it is not a CV.

Either way I am tickled with the F7's, pull way better than I had hoped for. Some times sound engines are a little lite in the loafers because they weight less. Not these puppys!

YGW Sorry your back hurts from working. Far as the coal cars, I think most of them so far are older Round House cars. I have only found one Athearn so far. I have 8 of the last batch of coal cars up and out on the layout. I am cheating, I am replacing the Spung Trucks with Athearn trucks with Walters PK 2000 wheels. I am saving the sprung trucks till I find out how to make them free wheeling. If you would like them, let me know. The detail of them is lost to me with the way I run my railroad.

Time to look for a used car again, Ken

OK Bear! Way to go!!

The plane I saw obviously had to be the B-17 Sentimental Journey. Its rather unlikely that there would be two such beasts in the air.

I didn't notice the USAF insignia on the side but the plane was nearly directly overhead. All I got was a flash of blue on the tail.

I have to say that my ears pretty much told me what it was before my eyes did. The sound of the four big engines could only have been coming from a vintage aircraft. At first I thought it might be the Lancaster that flies out of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario, but the silver fuselage soon put the boots to that idea.

Thank you for taking the time to help me identify that beautiful aircraft. Very few people at the party I was attending even bothered to look up, and there I was with goose bumps from the sight and sound.

Take care!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
