Afternoon Dinners
Flo, Please.
Had a decent Download today so I am feeling better.
Man it is hot here! It is 96 outside and wipped my caboose pretty quickly! Feels good in the garage and may leave the A/C on all night. It will help keep the house a little cooler.
Pool / Yard Wars Was cleaning the Duck Weed out of the pool cover and the 10 year old leaf net started to tear. OK, it was the next thing to falling a part. One more scoop it would have been total junk. So I ran to the pool store and bought some water bags and a commical grade leaf net. I do like it, much bigger than the one that was falling apart.
Then went to Lowe's and bought some flowers and potting soil. While I was there I checked on the fence to see if there was a install date set yet. Lumber was not in yet so not date had been set. I was told after after they get the lumber it be about 3 week's! Now the is not because it will take 3 weeks, it is because it will be only 3 weeks! I was told 6 weeks before. Reason I would like it to take 6 weeks is I have to clear the fence line and pull down the old fence. With the heat we have been having it may take a while for me to get done.
YGW Really looking forward to getting the coal cars! If you would have used them I know they must be nice! Hum, Pool in the Rec Room? How much does that add to the total cost of the house? My self, I would love a enclosed pool. Sure make keeping it clean easy!
V8 Vega Good luck on the AC.
Just had a nasty train werck in a 13 foot tunnel!

1. I have N Scale
2. I just opened a photobucket account, give me a few days to organize and found out what to do. I have a little problem with the cellphone pictures into the website. I know you like to see it too, YGW.

I hoped this worked because I didn't see Direct in Photobucket. I only see Share, and download/like.
Edit: No it did not.
Yes I did follow the instructions on the forum about downloading a picture.
angelob66660,
1. Sorry bout that, didn't know your layout was N Scale
2. the whole photo upload thing has proven to be difficult for me, I dont know how you guys do it, it must be like magic or something's wrong with my computer ha ha ha.
3. I always use photobucket by itself with no other tabs up other than file explorer otherwise my computer freezes.

ATSF I only enable Shockwave Flash/Adobe Flash to copy the link, which is circled in green above. Flash can be responsible for the computer hanging and these script errors that everyone has been getting. I also do not enable flash on this site. If there is a youtube video, I will open it in a youtube window.

I'm on the porch with my laptop and I've see 2 lightning bugs and 2 bats. Time to go inside.

Good evening to one and all!
Its been a long time, 2 years to be exact since I've been back. I see some familiar faces, and a few new ones. Great! Flo, I see you are still gorgeous as ever! Can I get a Rootbeer Float?
A lot has happened in the last 2 years, most notably the removal of the layout for a complete re-do of the basement. Carpet is gone, concrete floors ground & sealed and vinyl plank flooring laid. Walls finished and soon a new HVAC plant including ductwork is to be installed. Til then all I can do is build kits, plan and dream. But then I will have free reign over most of the basement!
Luckily, I do have some friends with functional layouts that I can run on. That should at least keep me out of trouble!
Cya all around!

NCE über alles!
I hope this works. I doing everything with a kindle fire and it's getting me a figuratively headache.
Next time some model trains.
For tonight, I would like an apple pie a la mode and some cinnamon milk. (Yes, I'm in a strange food mood again. As an explanation for these odd combinations, my late maternal Grandmother always let me experiment with food in her kitchen. I still do every one in awhile. Not that I want it tonight, but have you ever heard of orange hamburger? One package Kool-aid orange drink mix powder to two pounds of hamburger. Brown the hamburger in a skillet. Drain and while still warm stir the power in. The hamburger is powerful enough that it tones down the taste of the raw powder.)

Not that I have gotten one recently but in the past I had gotten ocular migraines. With one of those, what one sees is like an overexposed negative. The vision issues are what seems to create the headache. Siting in dark room for a while is how I found to solve problem.
BigDaddy My BIL died last night. His daughter found him this morning. He did not take care of himself, extremely overweight, heart attack, diabetes, kidney disease. He has been a walking time bomb for years. The wife is understandably upset though.
My condolences to you and your family.
On the hobby front, I ordered the wire glue last night and it if the tracking is right, I should have it Saturday. Hopefully I can use it Sunday when I go to the ranch for the weekly trip. Of course, a problem has come up. Mom seems to have heard a buzz in the weeds by the house. She thinks there might have been a snake in there. She has a little Cheweenie (Chihuahua/Dachshund cross). She had seem the effects of rattlesnake bites on another dog who happened to be in at the vet. Dad has no idea what a "buzz snake" is. However they both want me to talk to the local rental place and see what they might have that we can get to cut the weeds so there won't be a problem. Of course, none of the equipment I thought the ranch had is working (the heavy duty weed wacker) or has been worn out (the heavy duty lawn mower). Another one of those things I have to do on my own time. Why do you think I carry debit cards for both Mom's and Dad's checking accounts? (Co-owner on both in case something happens so that bills can be paid.)
Morning to All.
Looking in before heading out to another rainy day at the field. Flights already delayed without the rain, add the storms and it is going to turn into another long day.
Henry - my condolences to your family. An old childhood friend of mine passed in February. The way you described your BIL is an exact copy of my friend, a walking time bomb. May they both rest in peace.
YGW - I am sure this weather is making your life interesting at w**k as well. We have flight delays and ground handling issues with the heavy rain, lightning and strong winds. These factors, I am sure, are things that you have to be aware of as well at all times.
Well, I am off to the races.
All the best.

Good morning ...
Henry .... Condolences for loss of your BIL.
Karl .... Nice to see youon this side of the street again. As you know, Ray and I post in both forums. Good people are everywhere.
Ukrich ... Thanks for the zoo video.
I had medical appointments yesterday in Nashville, and I know I will be having surgery again. I don't know exactly when, but it is likely to be before the end of this year.

I found a youtube video on the Goat Canyon Trestle. The film maker was full of himself and full of phoney drama but I found it interesting that there were abandonded frieght and passenger cars all along the line. Very interesting shots of the interior of tunnels. There's a bunch of Youtube vids out there, and I did not do a comprehensive review, but this one is better than the first idiot.

Because we don't observe daylight saving time, the sun is starting to come up by 5:00am. This morning it was an advantage in that I could get out for a 20-mile ride and still be home in time for a 6:30am conference call.
I remember many years ago, when I started w*rking as a programmer, getting frustrated with the old-timers that didn't understand the "new" technology at the time. Today, I am the old-timer that doesn't understand and am not as mentally malleable as I once was. The goal is to remain relevant long enough to get to some sort of retirement age.

Mornin' folks!
Zoe, I will have the #2 Special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, homefries, and a double order of the sourdough toast. I also need a large pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug. Thank you Ma'am....
Karl! Good to see you back on the sunny side of the street! Zoe, put Karl's breakfast on my tab, please.
Here in the Finger Lakes/Central NY areas last years bear cubs have evidently been driven off by their Moms to start life on their own... Been many sightings in the area of yearlings wandering through trying to find a place to call their own. These are bears that are about 100lbs soaking wet and most will take off on a run if they see a human.... But they do have to be dealt with. The DEC generally traps them and takes them to the Southern Tier of NY and drop them off in the forested areas (or send them to the adarondaks). They even had one at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Henrietta yesterday. http://www.twcnews.com/nys/rochester/news/2016/06/22/rit-bear-in-tree.html
My son told me one has been seen in the wooded area which goes along the back of his house just on the edge of Waterloo, and one has been spotted in Canandaigua. We often get them wandering through the Boy Scout Camp. As long as they only wander through, they are left alone. They decide to set up a homestead there, they are removed by the DEC.... A couple years ago there was a photo of one walking right down the middle of the road about a quarter mile from my house in the city of Geneva. I have deer in my yard many times over the winter as well (they come to nibble the fruit of the Flowering Quince and the Crabapple). Several years ago in the Fall I was putting out the garbage one evening when two doe followed by a huge six point buck marched right next to me (I'm talking 5 foot or so). The does saw me and took off, but the Buck decided to stop and challenge me.... I just calmly backed over to the door and went inside. Evidently the buck didn't see me until he was right there. Must have had his mind on something else....
Today I am having lunch with one of my Eagle Scouts from back when. He is home staying at his parents house for a while and is about to take off for another extended trip to the far reaches of the world.... He has an MPA Degree and was working in Albany. Decided the "environment" there is just too toxic and got out while he still had some sanity left. He is putting all his energy into his new website these days: http://undiscoveredwanderings.com/
Seems I have once again written a book... I'll catch you all later!

Morning diners,
BroadwayLion Obviously, NYC is the way to go! What Scale? 2x4 what? Inches, Feet?
1. N Scale
2. Measurements in feet.
The idea of making a small starter layout by half the size of HO being a 4x8 foot railroad. I thought it would be a good idea, to have at least a few steam trains and a handful of cars. The length might change from 4' to 4'3"-4'5" depending on track.
When I started placing cars on it. I noticed it right away that it has enough more for 1 locomotive 2 40' cars and a caboose. I was hoping for 4 cars to make it a little longer. A NYC J3a Hudson was a good stand in, but probably not it's length of 7.5" or 100 feet.
Let me remind patrons of the Diner that even though this is a sanctioned off-topic thread, it is still subject to the rules of the Forum, which means there is no amount of political discussion that will be tolerated. NONE. ZERO. Saying "oh, I can say just this one little thing but I better not say any more or Cousin Vinnie will get me" does not make it OK. Every one of you should know better. Discussion on political topics (politicians you like or don't like, elections, guns, abortion, taxes, immigration, unions, etc.) will get you moderated, suspended, or banned entirely, depending on the severity of the violation and how many times you've been warned before. So that means NO POLITICS. Capisce?

Good Afternoon!
A really hot day here - hitting 90F! Too hot for yours truly!
Angelob - you know that N scale is not exactly half the size of HO scale, so an N scale 2 by 4 ft. layout is less than it´s 4 by 8 ft. equivalent in HO scale. Still, plenty of room for a nice small layout.
Here is one I drew for up831 some time ago:
Naturally, such a layout is not well suited to run a Big Boy on it.
Henry - condolences on your BIL´s passing!
Steven - I didn´t know you are a member of "La Famiglia"
When the doctor gave me my test results, I raised both arms and said, "Yesssssss!" Everything is good. The A1C, which I'd worried about because spring came late and kept me in the gym and off the road bike for so long, was a delightful 6.6. No additional problems and he wants me keep doing what I'm doing.
I seem to have lost a few pounds, too, according to his "official" scale which I trust more than the cheapo one in my bathrroom. I did ask for a recommendation for a nutritionist, because I'm trying to better balance my food intake with both my desire to lose weight and my vigorous exercise program.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Afternoon all.
Zoe, Barry burger, fries, and coke please.
Henry, condolences on the BIL.
Steve, I am fine with "capisce", just don't "make yis' an offer ya can't refuse", or I may start hiding!
Yesterday during lunch, I had planned on going to the hot-dog stand downtown, as they have some of the best dogs around, but they were closed for some reason... I did, however, run into this guy.....
So, not an entirely wasted lunch.
Weather: 80 and overcast today, warmer and sunnier this weekend.
Well, I should go back to w**k now, as we are busy with a sale today...
Good day to all, enjoy!

Afternoon folks!
Chloe, nothing but a glass of ice water for me right now......
Had lunch at Water Street Cafe downtown with one of my Eagle Scouts from way back when I was a Scoutmaster here in town. We talked about old times and what we are both doing with our lives today. We stayed at the Cafe until they almost had to throw us out as they close at 2PM..... Lunch was free for us as my son sent a gift card there for my use... Just as we were outside next to my PiP still yaking the owner of the cafe came by to help lock up. She came over and said hi to me. Her son was also one of my Scouts and her daughter one of my all time favorite little Middle Schoolers. Her daughter owns a local restaurant now. Never been in there. Have to put that on my must do list I think. What a neat gentleman the Eagle Scout has become! He brought me a bottle of his dad's home made wine which is world class, BTW (his dad is an entimologist at the Cornell Experiment Station here in Geneva). Next week the guy is heading out west for a while to see what happens... And to get some more entries for his website.
Hey Mr. B, Great A1C my friend! Always breath a sigh of relief when all my blood work come back normal at the Docs office! Keep up riding and all the rest!
Have to head over to be a chauffeur for DIL and Granddaughters tonight. Catch you all later!
Afternoon Folks
Flo, Beer please, make it a Colt 45.
Steve Never knew we could not talk about fire arm's? It is because it sort of poltical?
Ed Sorry to hear you lost your BIL. Mine passed away on Christmas Day of all days.
Heat One / Ken Zero. After my running which was more than I hoped for, by the time I got home it was 96 degrees. I was abled to work on the pool cover for about a hour and then I was beat! At this point I all most think I will never get all the water out of the pool cover for the zoning inspector.
Only good news today is I got my Charter Bill lowered by $30.00! THey all so gave me a new Cable Modum. The lady said my was out dated and was not getting the full internet speed I was paying for! Might explain why I have trouble with Photo Bucket and being on this site at the same time.
Rasied Floor Garden Tips Next year I hope to put one in a long the rear fences. I would like some Ornamental Grass that will get around 6 foot tall or so. REason I would like a rasied bed is the dirt is pretty poor in the back.
Is ground treated lumbert OK, or would it hurt the plants? I am thinking 12 to 16 foot by 3 foot and 12" tall. What is the math to figuer out how much dirt to use? Do I use a ground barrer under the raised planter? I am sure I will need cross braces so the sides will not bow.
BBQ is done
Thank's Gary, I like the photo you posted for me!
I posted my first picture on Show me Something- June edition. I hope you guys enjoy it.
Firearms seem to be more political than politics these days. Do not believe the lies you read on Facebook, especially if there is a picture of George Washington.
i used ordinary pine, 8 years ago for my raised beds. It may last another year. Pressure treated lumber no longer has arsenic it it. I put a weed barrier down but there are plenty of weed to be had. Length times width times height will give you cubic feet needed. Look up square foot gardening, the mix I used was equal parts of soil, compost and vermiculite.
Mr B good job.
Just stopping by quickly before bed. Tomorrow is the annual big day I get to go hide from work, family, friends, my wife, etc. with my camera in Syracuse. Hopefully CSX will have some entertaining (entertraining?) traffic!
G'd Evening Gang,
Just a quick stop here so you all know I haven't fallen off the planet.
Been very busy as of late because of other Guards being off on holidays and we have been covering their shifts rather than bringing in someone else for this period. So lots of work and have been quite tired as well.
Not much happening on the LM&E. right now but as these other guys get back to work some days off will be so hot I'll bury myself in the train room.
Hope all is well with you and do take care if travelling.

Just a pineapple milkshake this evening for me.
I had a rather interesting day. I ended up calling in sick to w*rk this morning. It takes a lot to get me to call in. I was so sore I could barely move. I get that way every once in a while when even naproxin doesn't help. Now to the part that makes it the interesting: I found out via FB that some of the computers where I work were down this evening. I think it's a bit ironic that the one day that I call in, the computers decide to go down. I don't think I have that kind of power but I still think it's interesting.
However, on the hobby side, I got some magazines that I had ordered for my GP30 project. They didn't give me quite the information I wanted, but they did fill me in on the history of these engines. I also got the couplers for both the GP30 and the GP35 that I have at home. I wasn't expecting them but it was nice to get them and they allowed me to get a little bit further on the GP30. I think the only thing that I have left to get for the 30 is a set of BN diesel decals. (The striping on the nose needs to be repaired as the shell had a headlight where my prototype didn't and the rear needs stripes completely. I also need to change the number on the unit.)
"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
Good morning everybody .
I have a lot of stuff to do to get ready for one more road trip next week. I'm going back to MI to be with family some and then drive back with my Main Squeeze. I have no more trips planned for the rest of the year, but there may be some short trips not too far away.
Ihope to have some model railroading time ater today.
We had a terrific thunderstorm last night. The lighning went on without a break in between, turning night into day. Fortunately, we didn not get hit, but our street was flooded by the heavy down pour that came with the thunderstorm.
It has not yet cooled off, so it´s rather hot and humid outside - not the way I like it. The weather guessers forecast a sharp drop in temperature for tomorrow, which will send my BP on a roller coaster again.
Going for a nice cup of and a handful of chocolate chip cookies to munch on, Janie, dear!
No plans fot the coming days, jst staying put and getting bored, as I don´t feel like MRRing these days.
