 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please and I will buy a round for the New Guys.

Work Front It was slow again today with only 3 customers and 2 bought. But they where the kind of customers I have been missing of late. Made a extra $155.00 today and it was need badly with the house payment coming due.

Yard Wars This morning I got some Round Up Posion Ivy Killer sparyed on the wild Gape Vines. It is the only stuff I have found that will kick there Caboose!

It was another hot nasty day, car said it was 99 degress halfway home and it felt it. But at the house it was only 85? Hey, it worked for me! After a few Beer I got some more of the fence painted in the back part. While it was a waste of paint I all so painted some of the dry rotted boards. From 80' back it looks normal. I do need to buy more paint, another $22.00 and will need another 15 boards or so. I will need to replace's all of them but for now I am just replacing the ones that are falling a part.

Ulrich I all so find my self thinking a lot about the days of my youth.  Think that comes with getting older for all of us. Example, when I first got out of the Army I never looked back. Now I think about it a lot, some how became the Good Old Days? I could run 5 miles with a 60 pound back pack. 100 push up was not super hard, 25 pull ups and so forth. Well, you all have seen the photos of me lately! Laugh

Well BBQ is done, so later.

Evening all.

Chloe, hot fudge sundae's all around, please. Put em' all on my tab. Get some happy people here... No grumps allowed!

Been a cooler day here today, welcome after hitting 91 yesterday, with a high humidity giving a feels like temperature of 99-102, depending on who you listened too...

W**k: Was off today, another welcome after grouchy people past two days. Must have been the heat... Sales were decent, and wasn't a terrible day, but we fell further on contest numbers, dropping to third place. Contest runs until the 18th, so last week for it. The other managers were still just as grouchy as the customers, and that was getting on my nerves. I finally told the one that they just needed to let me do my job, and take care of my customers. (Was on the phone to handle an issue, and ordered to hang up and call back at a different number, for escalations only, only to get the same person I was ordered to hang up on, and go over the whole issue, from the start, and take twice as long to handle the issue and get the customer taken care of.) I also told a customer, whom was trying to start an argument with someone else, to "zip it", and told her that if she continued with what she was doing, she could leave, as I would not put up with the issues she was creating. (No fighting allowed people...)

No news on hobby front, was busy with other things this weekend.

Hello to all, and hope all are well.

170 is max for a person 50.  Cardiologist don't recommend going to the max.  Maybe like the commercial says ask your doctor if your healthy enough to do that?  I don't know the official criteria for doing a stress test, but I'll be a 50 year old guy running his heart rate up to 170 is one.

What do your electric bills run?  We flew out of Phoenix last year and the temp was 117.  At 4 am it was still 101.  We drove through a short tunnel or very long overpass and the car outside thermometer climbed to 128.  Your air conditioners out there must be working as hard as your heart.

We returned on Friday from a short trip to Costa Mesa, CA for w*rk. One of the perks of flying as much as I do on Southwest Airlines is that I have qualified for a "Companion Pass," which means anytime I get on a plane, my wife can fly with me for free. I have had the pass for a number of years, but now that there are no children in the house, we are free to use it. I really enjoy having her along. On this trip we were in California for the Borrego Springs earthquake early Friday morning. That morning everyone was saying, "Did you feel the earthquake?" Alas, we did not--we slept right through it.

We are back to the Arizona heat where we are supposed to reach 120F by next Sunday. The only consolation is that the relative humidity will only be about 6%. It is still cool enough (relatively speaking) to comfortably ride in the mornings. Yesterday I saw a fast group ahead and tried to chase them down in order to get a good draft. It was a slight downhill, and I was riding for everything I was worth. I got within 50' of the back of the group and ran out of gas. I checked my numbers later and found that I had topped out at 33mph, with a maximum heart rate of 170bpm. Not too bad for an aged rider.

It is great to see all of the new diners! It sounds like YGW has been busy recruiting new business. I wonder if he secretly bought the diner and has put together an advertising plan to attract new customers. If so, it sounds like he could teach a thing or two to the owner's of Ken's store.

Hey all

Spent Saturday in yard wars. This week I did battle with poison oak along my fence line. It was a tough battle. Some of the stuff towered over my head by several feet ! But at last I hacked and hued until I could actually see the fence and then I cut the blasted stuff at the root ! Now I will wait until it has died and and then I will untangle the vines from the fence.

The battle came with a cost though. Heat got me. I have spent the day and night trying to recover !

Glad to see some new faces here ! Welcome glad you came and please keep coming back.

Galaxy glad to see you back.

Hello to everyone hope your weekend is going well Big Smile

Afternoon Diners,

It's amazing what's happening when your gone for two days.

I went to my aunt and uncle's 50th anniversary party yesterday. Unfortunately half way through I got a terrible headache and nobody had medicine.

I seem to have embarked on a sentimental journey when the times appeared to be better than today - the good old days.

I found the download of a Marklin catalog of 1965, including the retail prices of that year, when you had to pay full MRSP! My class E 94 electric loco sold for 55 Deutschmarks, which was quite a lot. Using a table listing all all official rates of inflation and a corresponding conversion factor, this would equate into 201.50 Deutschmarks in today´s money or, since we don´t have the good old Deutschmark anymore , Euro 102,90! Today´s version of this loco sells for Euro 329,99 - 3.2 times as much. You do get DCC & sound , though - a Euro 65 value! Vintage Marklin locos of that type in mint condition sell for about Euro 100 to 120, so the model kept its value over the years.

For the Marklin Swiss Croc, the figure are slightly different. 1965 price was 85 Deutschmarks, translating into roughly Euro 160 in today´s money. Today´s Croc sells for Euro 469,99, that´s 2.94 times as much. 1965 vintage Crocs fetch prices of Euro 500 to Euro 750 on Ebay these days - wow!

Now I don´t want to heat up the discussion of how expensive the hobby is, just stating the facts. Maybe that is one of the answers to why Marklin has lost much of their traditional customer base.

I bet if Marklin would go back to what they once were, also in terms of quality, as the locos were literally indestructable, they would have less financial problems.

Good Afternoon!

Just woke up from a nap, but I can´t say I feel refreshed. My body aches and I feel like hiding in the back booth, with my favorite teddy bear tucked under my arm, a mug of steaming hot chocolate in front of me, and sulking.

I am right now suffering a total loss of confidence in whatever I may attempt in doing, extending far beyond model railroading. I know I am heading down the wrong road, but can´t turn around. It´s a feeling of getting lost in your own house, like longing for a change and being afraid of it at the same time.

I try to divert my mind by looking at some train videos, but I can´t do more than 30 seconds at a time!

Found this video, showing the dream layout of my childhood days:

Watching it brough back memories of the early 1960´s, when the family used to take the streetcar into downtown Düsseldorf just before Christmas. I spent hours (at least it felt that way) with my nose pressed against the window of Ziem Spielwaren, a toy store long gone, watching the trains run around and around on a similar layout. Later I found out that my father bought our Christmas gifts while us three kids were window shopping outside, carefully being watched over by Mom.

Happy days!

Galaxy,  I hope you don’t take this wrong, but I’m sure that you have a large target on your back.
You are right about the economics of canning; we use the phrase “bottling”, it was the rising price of sugar that ended it for my Mum, though it coincided with the advent of “cheaper” freezers. I don’t know about the States but even growing your own vegetables can be uneconomic, though nothing beats being able to go out to the garden and pick something fresh, as long as the white butterflies or snails haven’t got to it first.Sigh

JaBear - Hmm That seems strange giving military personnel alchol. Why would they do that if they are in charge of massive machines of war made to obliberate other ships and coastal defenses ?

YGW, that was the reason given when the rum ration was scrapped.
However the tradition of the rum ration in the navy goes back to the 1650s.
I don’t think that we’re capable of actually understanding how hard the life of a sailor was. The work was physically hard; constantly wet during storms; battles were carried out at a “spitting distance; primitive surgery with no painkillers; and as a special bonus, with no means of keeping food and water fresh, the dependence on salted “meat” or fish, and weevil infested hardtack bread, and spoilt water or “small beer” even though it lasted longer than water, so I rather think that the  daily tot of rum was looked forward to.
Add to that the “Dutch courage” the double tot before battle would give, and I go as far to say that rum had a fairly important role in helping keep the morale up.
Out of interest the US Navy did have a rum ration though it abolished it in 1862.
Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.
Cheers, the Bear.Smile

Don't need anything to eat or drink at the moment, but I do need some prayers and thoughts from the group. This may be slightly off-topic but the little town of Baker, Montana (east of Miles City and about 15 miles from the North Dakota border) was hit by a tornado earlier this evening. There appear to be no deaths but there are people injured and 12 homes have destroyed or significally damaged. There will be better indication of the path and the strength of the twister tomorrow when a National Weather Service is dispatched to the area. Most of these details come from the Billings Gazette's story on the tornado (baker tornado). For Montana, tornadoes are very unusual and this amount of damage is even more unusual. Again please keep the affected people in your thoughts and prayers.

Good Morning!

It´s raining! Back to our normal weather for the time of the year, I say.

I am exhausted! Yesterday´s mishap was not doing any good to my poor soul. It had taken me a long time to clime out of the dumpster, but now I am back in it gain - and deeper than before. This is no good!

cudaken
Or is it a need to have a project? If it is a need to have something to look forward to, I under stand.

Ken - very well observed! Having a project to work on, starting with the plan tickling my imgination having to think about how to proceed with the project and later on starting on it was what kept me going nuts in the situation here. "The situation" is a mix of a lot of threats I am facing, from finacial worries to partnership issues and a bundle of things I am not allowed to talk about in here. All I can say is that this country is a long way down on the road into a dictatorship and picking up speed. Being unable to bring my family to safety is literally killing me.

"There is no more good-natured, but also no more gullible people than the Germans. No lie can be conceived treacherous enough, the Germans believe it. They follow a slogan which was given to them, to act against their own countrymen, rather than the real enemies of their country." (Napoleon Bonaparte)

Breakfast time. Flo, I´ll go for my usual Sunday fare of cakes from the griddle, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, buttered toast & jams, a tall glass of OJ and a constant flow of coffee, please!

Have a happy Sunday!

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please, and put Galaxy Tab on my bill.

More than likely I will not post much tonight. Between the lack of customers and bills I am sick with worry. While this was never a great job it had been a lot better than this year so far. Going to dig into the savings badly to make this month house payment, and savings is only a tad under $2,000.00.

I had been able to count on selling 4 to 8 good spiff beds a month. At this point I am down to 2 a month? What happened? Could the fact the owner has not ran a add in 2 years have anything to do with it? Bang Head People are just plain not coming in the store! Had only 4 folks today come into the store on a Saturday. Bang Head

Galaxy Glad to see you back and sorry to hear about all the woes.

Ulrich Soory to hear about the Z scale steam engine miss-hap. Why did you give up on the other layout? It was looking pretty good! Or is it a need to have a project? If it is a need to have something to look forward to, I under stand.

Yard Wars I have given up on the idea of having the tree's removed. While I have the credit to get all the work done, I am worried about paying for it. Heck at this point I am worried about making a house payment!

 Later, Ken

Evenin' Folks!

AH..... Galaxy!!!  Good to see you, but sorry about all the bad stuff going on in your life....  Do stop in and chat.  'tis good therapy!  You had us really worried you know...

Janie, I could sure use a cup of decaf tonight.  Been a long but fun day.

I worked a birthday party for two little 5 year old twins!  Their father is a new conductor out at the museum and he did the honors of conductor on the two trips we did for them.  They had about 40 people attending and riding the trains.  All very well behaved and pleasant.  The party was from 1 to 4 PM.  I was out there for crew call about Noon.  Considering the the weather forcast when I went to bed last night was real gloom and doom, the few spinkles we got amongst the sun was no problem at all.  The temp was in the mid 80's but we also had a good stiff wind all afternoon, so it was quite comfortable.  The cake was a bunch of cupcakes with RR crossing signs on top....  Everyone got one even the crew!

Got home, had supper and then did a bit of garden weeding and gave it a good watering  The rain we got last night was pretty much gone by this eveing due to the drying wind.  I then headed down cellar to the layout and got another 3 foot of track ballasted.  Should have some quality time to get some needed housecleaning, gardening, and layout.....  Oh, forgot I will be taking care of my sister's kitties again tomorrow.  So much for layout time!

BigDaddy....  Raw Meat?  Well that is what an autopsy is I guess.  My late wife studied to be a Surgical Technition at Robert Packer Hospital back in the 1970's.  Attending an autopsy was a requirement.  She came home and told me all about it, Ah, how should I say...  Slice by slice?  (During supper too...)  She did tell me the story that goes around the hospital of the time all the nursing students had to attend one and the person they got to see had been....  Well he wasn't found right away????  The room cleared very fast on that one while the Doc roared....  My wife manged to get througth the one she saw with no problem and was quite proud of herself.  She said it was fastinating!  I didn't start any arguements with her for some time after that........ We did cook BBQs after that for quite a while well done though!  LOL

Hope everyone has a great night!  Prayers for all in need.....

Galaxy good to have you back.  I'm sorry your news is not better. I hope you recover swiftly from you accident and your marital woes resolve quickly, one way or the other.

Lion Chocolate port --- interesting, I love most things chocolate.  Is your order of the fermenting variety of monks?  My wife insists on well done meat.  She once saw an autopsy and says it smelled like raw meat.  I can smell raw meat and and I don't think it does.  I cannot smell blood, didn't know it smelled until after I retired as an anesthesiologist.  That was probably an advantage.

Ulrich I'm sure your friend will be able to put your loco back in order.

Painted my track despite unfavorable winds.  Used Vallejo German Black Brown.  For some reason my LTS only has milk chocolate brown paints except for this one.  The stuff is thick, it comes in a dropper bottle thicker than Hersheys syrup.  It worked and unlike many on the internet, plugging up the airbrush was not a problem.

I repositioned a turnout that someone? improperly left a huge gap in the divergent rails after a successful test fitting.  I'm still staring at my 1st future DCC conversion.  I have no idea where to fit the speaker, not that there is room in the RS1.

Good afternoon.  If you please, a tall glass of ice tea would do well right now.  It is 92 degrees in the mid-Ohio River Valley this afternoon and fairly humid.  Was planning on mixing a pouring Sakerete today but decide to wait for a cooler day.  Like Ken, I don't do well in hot weather.  Probably goes back to when I was in high school working at the local lumber yard unloading a box car of 2x4s that had been badly humped.   I spent a June sunny day laying on my back inside the car passing boards to my cohorts.  The inside of the car looked like a bad game of pick up sticks.  The experience led to heat exhaustion including a couple days of the severe runs.  Since then I really watch staying well hydrated.

Yesterday I spiked down a little more track and then finished up the concrete forms.

Last night my granddaughter had her debut performance dancing the solo for the Laura's dream scene in Oklahoma.  She did an awesome job.  One of her teachers came up after the performance and told her he was blown away by her talent as a dancer as he thought her real talent was talking during choir class.  Really proud of her.  She has five more performances.  She said it was lots of fun to be on stage and perform before a real audience.

Galaxy, nice to see your return.  The rear ending  after neck surgery sounds awful.

Garry, safe travels.

FRRY kid, welcome to the diner.

Time to walk the dog.  Have a great Saturday evening.

The Chocolate Port wouldn't go very far with me. I have chosen not to drink alcohol. (i'm too much of a science nerd. I know too much about what that subtance does: both internally and externally. I worked in a 24 hour resturant after college where the college was a dry campus. Lots of drunk college kids.)

Just in for a few moments.

I haven´t read any post yet, but will do that hereafter!

I am so happy to see Galaxy back here. More to that later.

My friend Lothar was here and we did not finish w*rk on the wiring. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and some model railroading talk. He took my little loco with him and will try to get it back on the track. I am quite confident that he will succeed in doing that, as he has done it before. Marklin´s warranty does not kick in as it was my own stupidity causing the problem.

I learned a big lesson today, but not necessarily a nice one. I have lost a number of skills and, which is more important, my confidence in what I am doing. This will influence my decision on whether or how I will continue.

I know now that I won´t be able to continue on that Z scale layout, so I will most likely complete the wiring and try to sell it unfinished.

I will finish my Swiss narrow gauge layout with the help of Lothar and then sell it. Once both layouts have been disposed of I will revisit my physical and mental situation to see whether I can do at least something to stay in the hobby which has been a companion for 53 years. Prospects are not to good though.

I am not happy about it but deep down in my heart I knew this was coming.

Morning all.

Flo, breakfast platter with scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, and wheat toast, and OJ please. Thanks.

Welcome Welcome to the new faces.

And, welcome back Galaxy.... Sorry for all the issues of late, none of that sounds lie any fun at all.

Uncle Bob, your forecast sounds like mine tonight, they have already said watch the sky this afternoon and evening, as it could be bad. Yeehaw... And I have to w**k this afternoon, so it might get interesting. High forecasted to be 88, and very humid again, so, that's back to affecting the asthma... And why it could get bad later. (Cancelled my am plans due to asthma and weather issues.)

Ulrich, any way to adjust it, or repair through Marklin? I also dislike repair issues on steam, I have a HO Mikado down right now, for the third time, due to issues.

W**k: Speaking of w**king this afternoon, last night was fun, as everyone was grumpy, hopefully all are better today... It was bad enough that I mentioned that "I have half a mind to........" with the one issue, showing that I was getting more than a little frustrated with it. Thursday through Saturday are "dress down" days in the summer, which, for us, are blue jeans, sneakers, and a polo shirt, girls get blue jeans, sneakers, and a casual top, no t-shirts or shorts/skorts allowed by any. Now, sneakers are no longer allowed, must be dress shoes everyday, and certain colors for tops are "encouraged" by corporate. I didn't have the "encouraged" color top, but also skipped the blue jeans, as I think the blue jeans look silly with shiny black dress shoes, so wore the regular dress pant, but a polo top. I was "informed" that it would no longer be acceptable to wear that color, as three others are "encouraged" by corporate. "Encouraged" and "required" are two different things, and, I have a polo shirt that has two of the three "encouraged" colors, but also has a Cleveland Indians logo, which would be out, but, as it was such an issue over colors, "I have half a mind to show up in it" is what I finally said. (Sometimes people just go overboard with reactions.... I had had enough of the "color" issue, especially when I still fit the dress code, as "encouraged" is not a requirement, and we have no uniform color, it is any color dress pant and dress shirt the rest of the week, no logo's, other than manufacturer logo permitted.) The biggest issue, was the manager in question disliked that I skipped the blue jeans as well, but, the dress down is optional, and is changing every week. Get the rules ironed out, then we will talk. If certain colors will now be required, provide them, or a uniform allowance, as pay is still cut due too hour cut-backs by corporate. Then almost every customer was grouchy beyond reason, and I had to tell one to leave, as I will not tolerate them yelling at other customers in my department, I have broken up one-too many fights, with punches thrown, in my time in retail, so I do not allow things to even get close to escalating if I can help it. So, shouting matches get shut down immediately, with both offenders removed from the store. (When I am manager on duty, or MOD, no fighting is permitted, period! Even associates are told this, any arguing will be dealt with, no matter who or why. Discussions are permitted, but keep it calm and civil, or I will step in.  Bad weather is disliked as well, but I can't control that!) If only one is acting as aggressor, than only one is removed. Only one started shouting last night, so I only removed the one.

Still sit as leader in new accounts, second on sales, slipped to third on contest numbers. Our store also slipped from contest lead to second place, probably adding to certain managers' grouchiness. After I added to my new account lead, I was ordered to vacuum an entire department, not mine, as it needed done, and another manager would handle customers. (What I get for beating grumpy people in sales... Whistling) Once that was completed, I was put back on customer duty, and still managed to do the second most in sales for the day, and sat second, for the day, on new accounts, but still leading for the month.

Hopefully people are in a much better mood today, otherwise weather issues may be a welcome distraction, as I am closing MOD tonight, so it will fall on me to monitor, and call for lock-down if necessary, all weather issues. (Good thing I have a app on my phone for that! Big Smile)

Hello to all, and hope all have a good day!

Good to hear from you, Galaxy.  I'm sorry to hear you've been going through so much.  Hopefully we won't get blasted by storms today, but we'll see.

I was gonna ask where your word of the day was, till I realized  there are several good ones hidden throughout your post -- if you know the language, anyway!  Cool Crying Whistling

FRRYKid
As a newbie here (yougottawanta gave me an invite), I find this quite an interesting place and as a result I would like something quite interesting to snack on: an orange soda float with chocolate ice cream if that can be done. (Gives a chocolate orange flavor like the candy that comes out at Christmas time.)

We have some very nice Chocolate Port in our whine cellar. Welcome to the diner. The Rare Wildebeest is most excellent.

E-L man tom

YGW, thanks for the invite! Sure is homey in here. First time here, you know.

Oh yes, I'll just have a coffee. Just got out of a lengthy meeting with the BOD of the TEC RR. Seems they want to move the main offices from West Sandusky to Troubridge. Don't know if I like that idea, but that's where all the interchange traffic comes in from the Chessie and the EL. The parking's quite crowded at troubridge, often have to park across the tracks to get a spot. That depot at Troubridge is bigger, but not as nice inside as at W. Sandusky.

Oh well, gotta go. My turn on the Brewery switch job.

Oh, I see. That is E-L as in Erie Lackawana and not el as in elevated subway trains. Oh well.

Welcome to out little kaphy house.

Hello ALL,

No, No need to check to obits, I am still here, though the amount of kicking I can do IS limited! I have skimmed the last months posting and this monhts, so If I have anything wrong, I may have missed it, misinterpreted it, or just plain got it wrong!  SO updates:

1} First condolences for those lost ones: Our members Barry, and Jerry Cox {?}, and for Garry's Mother and Petra's Aunt. ANd for any one I missed. NOW IS THE TIME TO REFLECT:::::: If you have a will, that is fine, but have you updated it? If you don't have a will, GET ONE, or better yet, set up a LIVING REVOCABLE TRUST, whereby assets can be passed to heirs WITHOUT PROBATE. We have adopted our very close freind's {we call them family} adopted son, his wife and now THREE kids as our "adopted nephew, neice and great nephews" {Number 3 came the 20th of May} SO WE NEED TO UPDATE our will. IF We stay together that is.

2} Birthin' days: I see Br Elias' lion had a feast of WIldebeast and Gopher on a roll for his, I think 68Th? {OLD MAN! Wink  }

3} speaking of STAYING TOGETHER, well THAT is a LOADED ISSUE. COunseling is failing, BUt MOH is now attending "joint" conferences with My mental Health therapist. The counselor is just that...a counselor, whereas my therapist is a THERAPIST, BIG difference. MOH stated the counselor "does us more damage than good"...because now, having seen the difference in the way the two work, Likes my MH therapist much better and I have to agree. BUT: We are at an impass {havent I said ttha before?} AND to a point where I told MOH to "get it together or go AWAY" {that IS NOT quite the phase I used, but the one I DID, I cnanot print here wihtout the IRE OF OUR Esteemed MR> OTTE. SO, I have TOLD MOH I AM *DONE* with this marriage, IF THINGS DON'T CHANGE DRASTICALLY AND I MEAN *NOW* I have all BUT: A] KICKED MOH out, and B} called a divrce ATTorney. A big part ot the problem IS MOH wants to play in everyone else's sandbox, but doesn't want in mY [OPUR] sandbox, and THAT is sticking in my craw VERY HARD. I can make allowances for the playing, I guess,BUT MOH needs to play AT HOME TOO, and that hasn't been happening for aobut 5 years. I will leave THAT part to your thoughts, without getting to a point MR. OTTE sensors something!!! SO, IF MOH wants to/continues to play everywhere ELSE BUT HERE, I said "PACK YOUR BAGS AND GET THE {{H-E-double hockey sticks}} OUT OF MY LIFE AND HOME AND LEAVE ME THE {{repeat}} ALONE so I CAN FIND SOMEONE WHO WILL "love HOnor and cherish" ME!",  and It got to a point that I placed an emergency call to the MH therapist  one day and SHe wnated to talk to MOH, who refused, and I said  "IF YOU DON'T TALK TO HER PACK your {expletive} AND GET the {EXPLETIVE} OUT NOW!!!!". SO reluctantly MOH agreed. I got MOH the book "HEALING THE CHILD WITHIN" and the companion work book,as half he problem is baggage MOH carries fromCHILDHOOD, of being rejected {So WHY reject ME ove it, I DIDN'T DO IT!!!},and other issues. MOH IS working with the book, BUT not fast enough action/reaction responses causing chnage inour relationship. I think MOH got the picture when texting me the other day form the car clainign THe Car "is now home" because I {Expletive} everything up,and am a total {expletive}. I siad "I haven't kicked you out YET, so get in here , you have to change your clothes for work and eat, and KISS ME YOU FOOL"....that night, I siad things NEED TO CHANGE NOW. {I HAD set a date for change our our anniversary next month on the 12th} BUT, I said CHANGE MUST COME BY 12th, NOT ONthe 12th!!!  AND I said "if you have the time and energy to go playing, YOU have it to STAY AT HOME AND PLAY. If NOT, {repeat GET OUT phrases}.

Has change come since my orations, speaches and EDICTS? well, not really, but I expect to find out this weeekend IF ANYTHING sunk in! AS YGW said, MARRIAGE IS hard work, or as MR.B put it" I am jealous of you WHO DO HAVE the "perfect" marriage, but...geeze, one can only take 111 years of this crap before kicking the offender in the cabooose!!!!!

MR. B. I commend you on DOING SOMETHING-even if outside your marriage, YOU HAVE TO DO what is RIGHT for you, SO DO I. {Mr. B. I WILL Get to your PM this weekend or early NEXT WEEk, OK?} PS> I DO HAVE a friend on the side, shall we say, who has given me the NERVe to DO SOMETHING about my marriage and MAKE THE DEMANDS I Have. If ANY of you are reading THIS or what MR. B siad, and JUDGING US< DO NOT, if you have the "perfect" relationship with your spouse {or THINK you do}, UNTIL YOU HAVE NOT WALKED in OUR SHOES, for the YEARS and YEARS we HAVE!!!}

WHat are we on, #4} ? HEALTH: THAT is the BIG reason I HAVE NOT been in! I have had MULTIPLES and A MUltitude of TESTS, PT and "other" in visits to the Dr. and Hospital, AND major SUrgery. Xrays, MRIs and even a Myelogram {an exercise purely in torture and PATIENCE if yuo have never had one!} the Myelogram is about a half hour test, BUT you arrive well before your test, eat nohting after midnight and the test was in the early afternoon, but DELAYED at LENGTH until I had not eaten anyhting in over 18 hours! THEN after the test you have to lay still on your back for 5 hours to be sure : a] you have no headache, b] you have no spinal fluid leaking. A LOT of this all for the Herniataed discs in my neck at C 3-4, 4-5.

The end result for THAT was surgery on the 27Th of May at 8AM, but the nurse nad anestesiaologist were concerned, my white cell count had been 17,000 the week before in preadmin testing, and 15, 300 the day OF the surgery and thought the neurosurgeon woudl cancel,BUT he siad "no, this man needs to be fixed, lets get himn fixed and we'll give him strong antibiotics and refer him to an ocologist"....so it went on as scheduled. Now friday afternoon, no pain Saturday no pain before or after being relased. I am to wear a neck brace {collar} for 6 weeks.

5} NOW GET THIS: SUnday the 29Th, no pain from surgery still, BUT: at 11AM we got REAR ENDED HARD by some "lady" who was not going to stop at teh stop sign we were stopped at {MOH was driving, I under restrictions}, and BARRELED into us!!!!! BACK to the ER, where they said the pins nad srews were still inplace, but GLOSSED over my pain I now had, nad HAVE. I have been figthing witht the insurances since!!! over $2300 in adjusted {the insurance adjuster's amount} in dammage to my minivan!!!!! just for not wanting to stop at a stop and "boulevard stop" through it {rolling through a stop sign/light,nad keep going}. I have pain in my neck, and my shoulder got {the one I JUST HAD FIXED a year and a half ago}Jerked pretty hard against teh seatbelt and at a funny angle, so IT has pain, and I have always had lumbar pain for years, but not have thorasic pain TOO!!!  I will have to SUE her as she was driving her mother's minivan and her mohter's insurance doesn't wnat topay as it wasn't their insured driving the minivan!!!! ALSO< under driving restrictions meant MOH [we ARE still together, but I have OPTIONS to get aroudn with my father or train nut friend} was driving me to APPTS over it and now have somehimes double the appts as one for regular foolow-up, one for CAr accident! NY is a NOFAULT state, and that complicates things too. SO we will see wha teh orthopedic surgeon says on Monday about my wrenched shoulder. They took 13 xrays of everything, and I will have MORE MRIs, and CT scans I think!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BIG TIME, JUST what I needed! I am ALREADY in a neck brace {probably HELPEd in the accident} and under lifting restrictions of no more than 10#

6} Mental HEalth: I have been HIGHLY MANIC lately, a help for the #7 tellings I will follow with. It IS a pain, but a boon in gettng some things done. IT ALSO, helped In TELLING MOH where the bear goes in the woods! I have avoided telling MOH OFF, but HAVE told MOH to GET OUT, as mentioend above..

7} being MANIC meant I COULD get my raised bed garden in BEFORE surgery! I have a5'x5' quadrant divided bed, and 4 4'x4' raiseed beds, 4 wooden stacked 3 teired raised beds, and two trellised raised bed 4'x2' planters. I started from ground zero wiht nothing. I bought bags and bags of top soil, manured soil and worm casting soil and hauled it all myslef from walmart {with carry out boys to put it in the minivan after I got it in the carts} and hauled it all out back. SOme help form MOH and Train nut friend, but mostly myself,. I out together the raised bed frames {the divided is 10" deep, two 4's are 8" deep adn two 4's are 6" deep, anf the trellised planters are about 18" deep. I have planted lettuce, spiniach, rediccio, herbs, carrots {red orange and purple {{yes PURPLE}}}, corn, multiples tomates, early girl red, yellow, black and purple {YES black and purple}, red, orange and PURPLE sweet peppers, broccoli, bush beans, strawberries, yellow and spaghetti squash, zucchini, canteloupe, cukes, and pickle cukes, and red raspberries and my black raspberry bush to be shipped hte 19TH. I think that covers it, oh and planted grass where it needed to be around the raised beds. SO, I HAVE been busy outside!!!! IT was questionable IF I woudl get it all done {rain rain rain rain rain} BEFORE surgery so now I cna breathe, relax {a little} and watch it grow as I water it.

8} HOUse, we have spent a small fortune updating the hous enad on accessories for it. We now have a park bench on hte front porch, a vinyl canvas gazebo out back, a "tiled {plastic} floor in the gazebo and a "tiled" open porch "deck" out back. We had hte family electrician put in outside outlets, lights and all. Gee, all we need is a Jack-ooze-zee and we'd be set!

9} Heart issues, like many of you are growing. HTe cardiologist's PA said there was an infarct on my EKG< and demanded a new Echocardiogram before clearing me for surgery. IT MAY be becoming an issue now. Dead heat tissue starved of oxygen is NOT good. BUt it HAS been there, probably since I was brought back and my heart restarted after 4 shocks.

I have LOTS of stuff, inside and out to do today and we are expecting Nasty T-storms with power outages expected, but looks like it might miss or just skim us!

YGW: look this week for a PM form me!

Well, that should UPDATE y'all for the missing in action time I have had.

PLEASe do NOT commment on my domestic situation! It IS NOT yours, SO don't worry, just let me vent! { SoapBox  over}}

whew@!

maybe see you all in a month again? LOL hopefully motbut BUSY week with medical appts this week!monday tourgh thurs at least and no I can drive LIMITEDLY, and PT will have to start for m neck recovery filling in any free time I have!!!!!

Oh, one last ting I have been boning up on home canning adn collecitgng necessary canning goodsf or canning the harvest for winter. Is it cheaper? NO< but I am going more towards self-sufficiency than cost saving, though if each home canned pint of beans cost me $59 to save over a $0.49 can at ALDIs, I duunno....

Latrer, DON'T know WHEN i will next be in!

Take care

Ulrich, don't give up too easily. You can re-quarter that little guy.

Google 're-quartering marklin z scale steam engine'.  Lots of good stuff comes up.

Take a look at this YouTube video.

Sir Madog

Would Marklin fix the engine for you, or is their customer service more likely to tell you where to go if you ask them?

Most dealers don´t touch that small stuff and sent it right away to Marklin for repairs. It will take up to 6 months and is going to cost $$$, which I don´t have.

I am really beaten by this. Crying

I would be surprised if Marklin did not have a warranty. ...

I sent a Bachmann locomotive back for repairs. It had a lifetime warranty. I did pay a reasonable fee for shipping and handling. They sent back a new locomotive instead of repairing the first one.

I would wonder if Marklin is such a good company if they don't have a similar warranty.

........

We're leaving later today for Cincinnati . Tomorrow we will drive the rest of the way to Michigan.

Happy model railroading.

Sir Madog

I have done it!

I ruined my perfectly fine Marklin Z scale 2-10-0 by opening the gearbox to carefully lubricate the gears. Of course, the wheels got out of quarter and any attempt to straighten that failed. I finally took all the wheels out. They are still linked with the side rods and I have no chance at all at getting them back in in the proper position!

I think I should change my hobby to collecting stamps! Seriously (although I hate collecting stamps)!

Ulrich, I'm sorry to hear about your problem.  Would Marklin fix the engine for you, or is their customer service more likely to tell you where to go if you ask them?

Our forecast is for really bad storms this afternoon and tonight, so I'm trying to get a lot of stuff done before noon (when the storms are expected to roll in).  I'm sure Ray is also battening down his hatches.
