Good morning everyone.

I could go for a bacon, egg, cheese sandwich. With a big iced coffee on the side.

Garry, I'll keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sorry and saddened to hear of the situation they're in.

I had the last two days off and got engrossed in getting ahead on various model building projects. I'm down to the finishing line for an NACX milk tank flat car, and Borden's butterdish milk tank car. Both by F&C. I've a second milk tank car I've not started yet. I'll get on that before to long. The kits are not particularly difficult, just considerably more time consuming than styrene kits. That's okay by me, as I love the greater satisfaction from these kits.

For more freight car project fun, I love Pennsy REA X29s and I've been building up a fleet of the Red Caboose models. I've built up three factory painted models so far. I have one more that needs decals, and three more factory painted kits to assemble. Two kits that I've painted and just need to finish adding parts, than decals. Finally, three unpainted kits to build, paint, and letter. For paint I'm using an approx mix of Polly-Scale SAL orange, and Zinc Chromate Primer tweeked to try and match the factory painted Red Caboose kits. Not perfectly matched, but I don't care. Lite to moderate weathering on all the cars will help later on. Some will have dreadnaught ends and Youngstown doors, but most will have the plate ends and creco doors. Some models will have horizontal brakewheels.

I am going to have a nice weekend of nothing doing. The band is firing on all cylinders and the set list has 15 great tracks on it. Still trying to figure out the tour details though. Whistling

GARRY,

I run a PRR GG1 on the freight line and two PRR T!'s on the passenger lines and an F7A passenger train on the branch line.

I think I am getting "writers block" or whatever the model railroader equivalent is "MR block".

I just need someone to give me a "crazy" idea and then I can go for it.

A constrution company hit a 10" gas line while digging. I was about a mile away when it went off, sure woke me up! This is what I saw as I was going into a Walgreen's. I did not take the photo, I was just a little behinde the person that took it. One worker has burns on 70% of his body. After being taken to a local hosptial he was flown to a St Louis Burn Hospital that has a Burn Center.

Howdy

Alvie and Krump ... Thanks for your thoughts and prayers regarding our situtation.

Ken ..... That's exciting. I hope the worker can recover okay for those burns.

Barry (Blownout cylinder) ... Good to see you. I hope your health has much more "ups" than "downs" .

Chris .... There is a PRR modelers association which might have ideas you could use. If you Google Pennsylvania Railroad Models, you might find some images with ideas too.

Mr. B ... I don't play hockey. My skating is awful. Everytime I fall down, even the ice makes a few cracks.

Hi All.

A nice hot coffee would hit the spot now.  Nothing like that coffee after work.

Ulrich - hope you are feeling better and hope the pain is going away.

Garry - the cat is my best buddy and he loves the railroad (he never jumped on the railroad but enjoys watching from the engineers chair).

Expecting rain this evening and tomorrow with possible rain mixed with snow on Saturday; crazy.

All the best.

Good evening Diners: I feel I’m that far behind in reading post that any attempt to comment would be old news. However for those who have talked of difficult situations, be assured you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Ulrich: So glad that ER was not what we thought at first! Angel  Thanks for that Lost Railways video - @ 70 mins it will take a while! In the mean time here’s a song about vanished lines from the post Becham period in the UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6OHD2uCpfU Blandford Forum is close to where I was born; and Chester-Le-Street not far from where I had digs on my first permanent job after college!
You are welcome to the song which follows also. Laugh

Family Front: It was our daughter’s bd today and we took her down (SILv2.0 needs the car for work – but Hey! He’s in work! Thumbs Up) for lunch in Halifax to see our granddaughter and her baby. Her BF joined us which was a bonus. He’s waiting to hear back from an interview for a promotion from PT nights to permanent-with-befits days. Angel for that too!  Paid the clearing and cleaning companies – and the clearing bill (the larger of the two) is just about covered by the rebate we’ll get from the fuel oil company.Cool
Train Front:  Now that I’m actually placing bits of flex track and turnout templates on the sub-roadbed, I’m finding how to simplify the plan and get he sorts of curves worked in which Ulrich suggested. I’d cut the number of tracks crossing the join already to just 2. But the latest plan, to service both major industries from the same branch necessitates adding a 3rd joint crossing – I think I can live with this. So, here’s the latest “Final” Plan and the 3D view.  This uses a couple of the Peco short switches of which I have many, and have avoided heretofore on this layout. Speaking of Peco, I’m awaiting delivery of a number of PL-10 machines NIB which I scored on Best Offer on the Bay. But I digress; the 3D…

You may notice I’ve made the “thing the Nn3 has to swerve for” a hill not a depression, and I’ve carved a gulch into the centre of the long leg of the L.

My thoughts are with you and your family, Garry, especially the kids.  I'm sorry to hear about the situation.  I'm just wondering whether it's good for them to be around a dirtbag, I mean bad influence like their seed donor/biological father.  Can they terminate his parental rights in Michigan, and is your daughter considering doing so?  Regardless, I hope this turns out well.

Morning!

The night was awful! Just when I found some sleep, the pain meds wore off and the ones I took did not kick in until early morning. But now I have traded joint pain for stomachache.

Needless to say I feel pretty miserable!

Garry - family situations like yours are not easy to bear for an adult, but for children they are traumatic experience which may show effects decades later! My prayers go out to them!

I´ll be staying at the RC for a moment, listening to what the pain tries to tell me.

Not happy today.

Good morning ...... I'm glad Canadians are here; so I may have a Tim Hortons coffee with a T H Old Fashion Donut. .... Yum..

Uncle Bob ... Thanks for your thoughts. The court just decided the kids' father may see the kids only in a neutral location with a social worker present for only 1 1/2 hours per week. (If he is sober enough to go) . That is much less than he was seeking in his motion, and he is angry at the court now.

Ulrich ... Thanks for your prayers. Praying your health improves.

Der John ..... Happy birthday to your daughter a day late . Your track plan looks like a fun layout. Keep us posted about your progress.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have my usual pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Organic Coffee and a couple of those Dougnuts that Garry brought in...

Ulrich, hope you get to feeling better quickly, my friend!  Keeping you in my prayers.  Prayers also going out to Garry and his family for a good resolution kin his family!

Today is dark and gloomy outside.  Currently 45°F out there with some drizzle and lots of heavy thick clouds.  This is supposed to continue all day.

I will be starting to get everything ready for the Batavia Train Show this Sunday.  I know I need to print a supply of materials for the table.  We usually give out information on the NMRA and the Division.  I always have a pile of old newsletters to hand out.  this time I will proint up a bunch of extra ones from last month announcing our Spring Meet  the end of this month.

Want to get a few laps in over at the fieldhouse too, so I best get moving...  Later!

I put a phone booth on my layout, too....

Some clown in a funny costume mistook it for a changing booth!

I was productive, too.  I made a cardstock mockup of the small church I plan to put on the latest section of my layout.  All the HO scale models I've seen are either too big, too expensive or too plastic for my taste, so I decided to scratchbuild one.  Northeast Scale Lumber is a short drive from home, so I will go there one of these days and personally select the necessary materials.  For now, the mockup helps me visualize the church so that I can plan the pink foam terrain around it.

Good Afternoon Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large coffe with lots of cream, please.

Weve been having winter still linger a little.  Right now there's snow or sleet flurries, but it's not that cold that it was a month ago.  Can't wait until it warms up for good.

I saw some post that said the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan 49 years ago today.  If my memory serves it was February 1964, just a few months after President Kennedy was assassinated.  This April 2016.  Hmmmmm!  Obviously, that was an old post that was resurrected for some reason or other.  However, I do remember that momentous event.  It was a long time ago.

Der:  I like your latest version of the plan.  Not too many parallel lines.  My thought is that angled lines always add interest.

Garry:  hope your family situation works out.

Ulrich:  hope you get to feeling better, soon.

YGW:  thank you for the update on SIL.  Very glad to hear that she is getting some functions back.  It's important for her children.  Hope all else is well for you.

Dennis: Not a thing wrong with 3-rail.  They're really a lot of fun.

Lion:  i don't want to find out what a TURP is, but hope you're OK.

Hello to all, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Mister Beasley:
All the HO scale models I've seen are either too big, too expensive or too plastic for my taste, so I decided to scratchbuild one.
Know what you mean. I was given a plastic one as a present and had to adapt it – carve off the junipers ‘growing’ up the walls and replace with 3d ones in the ground in front of the walls, for instance. Also the steeple wasn’t “local looking” for around here and that had to be changed. A wheel chair ramp helped change things up visually too.(It slopes away from shot in the photo) A coat of paint and window trim also helped enormously. But not scratchbuilding since one doesn’t look a gift kirk in the doors! Smile, Wink & Grin

Up831:
Der:  I like your latest version of the plan.  Not too many parallel lines.  My thought is that angled lines always add interest.
You and Ulrich both! And you’re right. I knew my plan was too stiff, but until I was actually plotting it out on the table, I couldn’t see just how to make it work. The SCARM software isn’t as adjustable as I’d like it to be.

LION:  Hope you see this before TURP time.

For the past couple months every morning when I check the Weather Channel Page it tells me it is still the day before....  So right now the main page for Geneva, NY says it is 6:25pm yesterday here in town, but over in Waterloo right next door it is 10:25am the next day....  Go figure.  The hourly forecast says it is now 35°F outside but the main page says it is 27°F.......????  I guess I will just add it to the list of things I just don't understand.

Sure you aren't looking at the weather in Geneva, Switzerland? Smile

Regarding churches. ..... My background church is a Hallmark Christmas tree ornament. I sprayed it with matte spray because it had a glossy finish. It is undersized for my HO layout, and that is consistant with nearby background buildings to force perspective. Being in the background of the layout, it does not get much attention.

UP831 .... thanks for commenting about our situation.

Krump .... Mmmmmm .... The TH donut was tasty.

Hello all from Stormy cold Va. Crazy weather. Last week 70s, Daffodils are up and they are calling for snow this weekend !

UP831 - Great to see you in here ! We are doing well. Overworked is about all I have to complain about. How are you ?

Garry - Is the kitties eyes pink ? Did the deacons take the wheels off of teh cars so they couldnt leave before the offering plate was passed around in your church photo ? Laugh

Ulrich - Hope you feel better soon. That is a bad place to be. No sleep and in pain!

Ken - A ten inch gas line ? That is a HUGE amount of gas. Consider this. Our "main" for an entire subdivision of 50 homes with gas furnaces, gas FP, Gas HWH, Gas cook tops, opt gas grills etc....is only 2".

DO - Sorry to hear your health is not 100%. Here is a Angel for you.

Reinhard - Me too on the work front I am insode and thankfully I get top work outside.

Lion - I looked up TURP. Geez ! Here are a couple of Angel Angel for you.

For you old time gospel Hymn lovers I just heard the most interesting story on the song "What a friend we have in Jesus" It was orginially a poem written by Joseph Scriven. Apperently he lost two Fiances. The first the day before he was to marry, she was thrown from her horse and she drowned, the second of pneumonia. He wrote the poem after the loss of the second. Aperently it was sent in to a paper ? and was turned into a song. It was sung ten years before he revealed he was the author.

W**K Front just got worse. Sales sold two more houses. Now have 13 homes, was 14 but one settled this week. Someone throw a life line !

Good afternoon.  It is rainy and chilly in the mid-Ohio valley today.  Took the dog for an abbreviated walk as it started to rain on us before finishing are normal mile loop.

Krump, the tardis sounds like a great idea.  You could not only switch back and forth between N and HO but go anywhere from John Bull to the latest diesel monsters.

Uhlrich, prayers headed your way for healing.  Hope you get to feeling better soon.

YGW, 13 houses is a lot of inventory.  Here's hoping the economy cooperates so you can get them sold.

Spent part of the rainy afternoon kerfing out more homosote to lay out the forth lead into my planned yard.  I pin nail the curve sections with 16 gauge 1 inch nails with a trim gun.  Still getting lots of use from all my construction tools.  Plan to stain up another batch of ties tonight.

Looking forward to real spring weather.

Flo got any chocolate chip cookies?

70% burns, pretty grim.  I took care of an engineer who had every engineers worst nightmare....he hit a 18 wheel truck hauling gas.  Poor guy had a gazillion operations.

Expiration dates exist so you will buy another one.  Aspirin is one of the things that truly do go bad.

More rain today and still chilly.  I accidently threw away the tip of my airbrush that was sitting in solvent.  Waiting on Badger to send me a new one.

Amtrak fell out of the national news, but there were multiple rule violations, including a change of shift that may have contributed.  Apparently workers can "short" the rails and trigger a red signal.  A posted lookout is required as Lion said.  The loco was traveling within the speed limit, but at 106 mph and braked 5 sec before the wreck.  It was on a 2 mile straight away.  The supervisor is said to have died trying to save the guy in the front end loader.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Yard Wars Had to work in Rodger's yard to day to cut the stuff down. Cutting the stuff down was easy. Throwing the stuff in to my yard as a bite. Mainly because it was a tangled mess, I hate wild grape vines! Some of the trees are trying to grow back, not this time. Used some Round Up Poison Ivy Killer on them.

 Last Photo I posted.

  And After Today Efffort.

Most of the fence post can be reused for now. Yes

While it may not look like I have done much (some of the stuff I cut down is still blocked by the junk still on my side)

YGW Yes, even I knew that was big. Just heard on the news that the Construction Company knew it was there? And you thought it was bad when the Plumber cut your power line.

Flo:  Maxwell Dark Roast please.

On the topic of shorting the rails, a set of booster cables, clipped to each rail works nicely.

That is/was the preferred system for native Canadians setting up a rail blockade a few years ago.

Good evening to All.

My after work coffee please.  Another wonderful day with heavy rain in the Northern Virginia Area.

Garry - I hope and pray that your family situation gets better for the sake of the children and for all.  Alcohol is bad, however, a cocktail of drugs and alcohol is leathal not only for the individual but for the entire family.

Our cat was a stray who, my wife and I think, was dumped by somebody.  This happened in 2008 when many folks lost their jobs.  He was in our yard looking for food, I called to him and he came right over, stayed on our patio overnight and would not budge.  Thats when we took him in.  He was neutered and well behaved and about 5 years old at that time (thats why we think he was dumped).  I can't understand somebody doing that to a member of the family.  We have been best buddies since.

YGW - got lucky today, stayed in the office all day looking out at the heavy rain.  They say possible snow for us on Saturday.

All the best.

Good Morning!

Well, the night has been a little better than the one before. The pain has lessened, but now I feel sick in my stomach. What a trade!

We are enjoying perfect April weather. Within half an hour, you can have anything from heavy snowfall to hail to rain to storm to nice & bright! I could use a little more sunshine to lighten up my spirits!

No plans for the day, just trying to relax and not think about all those beep (expletive, deleted) illnesses and ailments.

If you have nothing better to do, here is a video of a cab ride along the Bergensbana in Norway, the country which is hosting the diner this month:

Warning - the video shows the entire train ride, everyx single minute of it, so this is 7hrs. 14min.!

Dennis - this one is only for you:

Janie, I´ll be in the backbooth, enjoying my Coffee
