Had a beautiful weekend; yard work on Saturday; and Sunday, I sat on the patio, and built car kits.  Built a Santa Fe Accurail covered hopper that had a lot more detail than I was expecting; have three more just like to do.  Then started on a Kato 3 pack of Monon 70 ton covered hoppers; got one finished, then one of the hatch latches fell off, and I spent an hour looking for it. I did find it, once I got everything else picked up.

I also tuned about 20 freight cars; checking coupler heights, gauging wheelsets, etc., working through cars that haven't been run since we last set up our modules 4 years ago...

Have issues with a couple of engines; not sure if I will get those ironed out.  The 2-10-2 ran well last week.  The Monon F7s ran, but the headlight didn't come on.  Don't know if that is a CV issue or if the bulb is burned out.  Need to get the CF7's tuned; and decoders in my GP7s, too.

Remember the tin can; the MKT's central Texas branch...

Oh, Mr.Otte: now is the time, if you haven't already, to join that esteemed organization: AARP! You will get 15% off your tab at Denny's and other places!

Also, Mr. Otte, it is time to invest in a CANE for those days your back, knees or hips don't quite cooperate! That is one reason for the hiking of the pants to the navel....to act as support trusses!

Age always has its revenge!

Now the cable company made us go through all this crap to avoid a service call, which would be great if any of the things they had BOTH of us try hadn't already been done before and still no TV! So tomorrow between 11and noon some tech is supposed to be here...now watch the tuner bix will be fried!

Now to fight over AOL NOT online tomorrow... At least I showed MOH how to load AOL on the smart phone so MOH could do work reports without the computer.

On THAT front, we had a Long talk about what each needo from the other to make this work. We each need improvement naturally, and I ALWAYS do or try to do exactly any and all requests registered by MOH, now let's see if MOH makes the efforts to change the things I've requested.

I have PT tomorrow morning for the knee and hip. I believe I have torn something behind the knee cap so I don't know what the stupid insurance company  thinks PT is going to do! And in order to get the MRI to find out you HAVE to go through PT first. Stupid stupid stupid.  if I HAVE torn something the it could be damaged further. That's the issue with my neck the two herniated discs aren't going away due to traction, in fact THAT gave me multiple migraine headaches! Then the MRI showed the two herniated discs. I know someone they almost paralyzed with PT on her neck when she really had a slipped disc! But that is how the stupid stupid insurance company works.

Well more snow and cold tomorrow. I think we got more snow in the last two days than all winter.

Well about time for this old man to go to bedMr . B: congratulations on getting the diabetes under control and fighting the battle of the buldge so many of us do! I still would suggest what I suggested in my PM...best of luck to you on that front!

Bed is calling me and the battery needs to be charged.

Since I decided to skip my workout today because of the snow, I figured I should get something useful done.  So, I pulled out the soldering iron and the rest of the small wiring tools and replaced the motor in that subway car.  I've had the parts for a couple of weeks, but I just hadn't gotten around to it.  Today was the day, and it's running fine once again.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please, trains are being mean to me tonight. Sigh

Just stopped by to wish Dennis a Happy B-Day and a belated Happy B-Day to Steve.

Dennis Do you have a layout? Do not remember reading about anything train wise from you?

Steve Would you mind post a few pictures of your layout? We like to look! Big Smile

Evening Diners,

Thanks for the strawberry cake Steven and happy birthday for yesterday. I was shore I thought I saw the process layout written on the board behind Jenny in the March MRVP.

Train News: I tested the track plan from the Berkshire Division. When they suggest flextrack they do mean flextrack. My Kato unitrack didn't form the way it should have without the need of flextrack.

New plan, figuring out a new approach and planning on another layout design, but keeping the number of switches.

Adding a four lane road over the railroad turned out to only be a 2 lane road. Now am wondering if it should be a same thru traffic or against traffic.

Howdy .... Just returned home from the trip. This will be brief.

Krump ... Glad you are back. Talk more later. I'm tired now.

V8 Dennis .... Happy B-Day

Steven ..... Happy B-Day

The family emergency involved one of our Michigan daughters and her two kids. They were in danger. The kids' father is the problem. Thankfully, Daughter has a new husband who is a good man. The kids' father consumes a lot of alcohol, pot, and other drugs. Recently he beat up his latest girl friend. Witnessing the assault were three young children (the girlfriend's little daughter and our two grandkids.) Police and Child Protective Services are involved. Our Daughter was threatened and police escort her into the school where she teaches. The girlfriend has been intiminated by the kids' father, and she is afraid to testify. In court today, things did not go well for the kids father. There is another court date next Monday, and my wife is staying in Michigan untill after that. I'm home to take care of the normal stuff.

I don't want to say much more about this situation. It is a long complicated story, and I don't want to turn the Diner into a soap opera. It is too stressful.

I did make a brief side trip to the Model Train Shop while in Michigan. I hope to get back to working on my layout. My gandy dancer project is half completed.

Happy Model Railroading

Good Morning!

It´s wet & windy again, but still fairly warm. Just got a call from my doc - he wants to see me tomorrow. Now, is that good news or is it bad? Don´t really know, the way I feel I suppose it´s not good news.

Just saw that those Bachmann Spectrum modern 4-4-0 are selling for less than 100 bucks, that´s down from MRSP by nearly 260 bucks! I always loved this little loco, but never could afford one Sigh

Garry - I am sorry to read about those family matters. What a traumatic experience for the little ones! I hope everything turns out well soon! My Angel for that!

krump - I am glad you like my little layout design! Changing the industries is no big issue. I would recommend to keep the scenic divider - it adds a lot to the appearance and makes the layout look bigger!

"Got to be home" for lunch, so all I´ll be having is some Coffee, served right here at the RC, Janie, please!

Dennis, a belated Happy B-Day from me as well.  I must have missed the original announcement.

V8Vega
I'm scared to say this here but it's Gasp 3 rail O gauge.

Scared?  Scared?  Of what?  400 model railroaders showing up at your house to see your layout?  Most of us started out on 3-rail O gauge, remember, and just seeing Lionels on a dealer table at a show is enough to send us back to those thrilling days of yesteryear.

You, sir, don't have a model railroad.  You have a toy train of the finest kind, and although they won't acknowledge it, even the guys at the Rivet Counter are very, very jealous.

You can call it a model railroad if you'd like, but no matter what you call it, it's something to be proud of.

Uh....  Huh?  Oh!  Mornin' everyone!  Yes, I'm up, awake, and been out running some errands already today...

Zoe, I just need another pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee for my FGLK Mug.

I just took the PiP over to the body shop to check the paint color for the new front bumper/cowling for the car.  That should be ready in a few days, and then it can be installed in less than a day.  So before the Spring NMRA Meet, the car should look like new again.  I want to get at least 3 more years out of it before I buy a Tesla 3!!!

Early afternoon I have to go over to the hearing center and get one of the aids repaired.  The little holder that holds the screen in place snapped off again.  It seems to be the weak part of these.  Right now the sun is atrting the solar panels and every so often I see a chunk of snow slide off onto the portch....  That is a good think.  Every panel that clears adds heat to the others to get the snow melted on them.

V8 nothing at all wrong with the three rail toy trains....  Only reason I said "Toy" trains is because you said they are O Guage....   There is technically no such thing.  O, HO, N, etc are not guages they are scales.  O Scale is 1/48th. of the original.  Guage is the distance between the rails as in Standard Guage (4' 8.5"), or narrow guage (such as On30 at 30 scale inches between the rails), or 5' guage such as the original Erie RR around these parts which was spaced at 5' between the rails.  One of my best friends and mentors in the Hobby (Harold Russell) models in O Scale!  I do wish I had my old 3 rail "O" stuff I got as a child!!!  My father gave me more every christmas until I left for college.  Last I saw of it was when I was college and it was all stored in an upstairs bedroom in the old farmhouse...

Have a great one out there!

Howmus - what happened to the ole farmhouse with the O gauge trains ?

Mr. B - LOL Rivet counters are jealous !

Steve & V8 Happy birthday !

Chessie - Do you w**k outside ?

Ulrich - In my prayers

Krump - Love the "Train up " good one !

Garry - Will keep your family in prayer

Tin Can - I am jealous built car kits on the patio ! It was 27 degrees and snowing here today !!!

Lion - Meeeeooooooowwwwww !

Richard - cudos for stepping out of your comfort zone. I am rather impressed.

Ken - Hey buddy! Did you say the card came in ? Hope all is well on your end !

SIL - Update. She is making strides in improving. So much so that she has been able to take her kids at times on her own. The dirt bags who did this to her have had the book thrown at them. From arson, attempted murder and five or six other charges. I also found out that she had taken one of the dirt bags in because he was homeless. He repaid her kindness with trying to burn her alive and beating the crud out of her. Angry I would hate to be him when he stands before God and give an account of his miserable life. It is gonna be a very bad day for that person. He had better ask for forgiveness before he leaves this place, because if he doesnt the fire he will be facing will be nothing compared to the eternal fire for which there is no escape.

Hi Gang,

I guess it is lunch time, Chloe, I would appreciate you lining up 4 Perogies with mushroom sause, a small bowl of sauerkruat, and some corned beef on the side.  Follow that with a Dr. Pepper, Oh wait.  make that a RBF, as it is now spring.

Ulrich,  I sure hope it is only heartburn or something similar. You got to get             healthy Guy.

Garry,  So sorry to hear of the trials in Michigan and hope that your family there come through without lasting effects.  But I know they will remember.   A young Lady who grew up next door to us and was like a daughter to us was murdered in her home a year ago, the fortunate thing about that night was that her son was staying overnight with his Grandmother next door..

YGW.    So glad for your positive update on your SIL and her boys.  I do hope the book will be thrown at those perpitraitors very hard and for a very long time.

My prayers for all in need in varying ways.

Hope to get down to the LM&E. this afternoon for awhile..  So much to do and not enough time. I guess I should retire.. That will be the fifth time.  Do you think it will stick this time if I do ???     Hmm

I just finished with jury service; two days trying a 3rd degree felony; a local young knucklehead was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.  Very incriminating evidence with a dash cam and officer testimony. Guilty; got to skip the punishment phase of the trial when the offender pled guilty to an additional offense of a like nature.

Steve  Feliz Navidad...no wait Bueńos ańos!  That sounds better.

Ulrich best of luck my friend, you didn't give us much to go on.  I guess you are not in labor.  Since we share dubious tickers, I hope it is not that.  Maybe you are having a kidney stone.  I don't think I've ever wished a kidney stone on anyone, but it's the best house in a bad neighborhood.

I got some buildings from Walthers today.  1/3 of the top of the box was split open at the tape and the bottom was held only by the reinforcing strings within the tape that was otherwise split.  It was one of these FedEX to USPS deals and I tried to pick it up at the post office yesterday, but they only had one guy behind the counter for the 10 people in line.  The customers must have been Ebay sellers, most had boxes of envelopes or small packages. No damage or missing parts.

Evening Flo, are you getting off soon? Anyhoo get me a decaf and a cinabon roll if you are still working.

So I cleaned all my track - 3 mainlines 1 branch - yes they are in a loop so it was easy - apart from inhaling the 91% cleaning alcohol on the cleaning pads. But that track really "gleams" now.

So I sit down and run the engines to see how they react and everything went "hunky dory". So then I think what should I do next?

Add some more realistic features to my basic layout or add some more buildings or bridges etc to my layout.

Ideas are welcome.

I am looking for a short term project - not a major one - don't know how long my time here (in Mississippi) will last. I might live a lot longer - but have no room to keep my layout. The wife wants to move to Florida - to a trailer in a 55+ plus park, Then we are done.

Chris.

Thought I'd just pop my head and say HI! ... HI! been a while since I've been here, unfortunately my current work and lifestyle allow very little time to do any modelling. In fact late last year I sold my N scale layout and most of my rolling stock as it was doing nothing but gather dust. I held onto some favourites, but I don't see any time in the near future to have time to start on a new layout. I did keep what was originally going to be an extension to my old layout which was 2x4' and also have enough track and switches to make a nice little loop and an industry. If circumstances change I have a plan in mind, so I can at least 'run a train'. Don't worry the desire still flickers inside, it's just not practical at the moment. I do still enjoy reading the odd MR, and I should probably try get a moment more often to drop by. take care all!

Hi there!

I am back from an overnight stay at the ER. The pain was and still is terrific, but at least I know what it is. I must have caught some kind of a vicious bug that has settled into my joints, causing an infection. Hardest hit are my shoulders and my hips. Elbows are affected as well, only my wrists and fingers seem to be OK. I am on strong pain meds and antibiotics, which hopefully kick in in a couple of days.

Dennis - 3 rail layout? How cool is that! One of my secret loves. Mind to post pictures of your layout (please)?

Off for a nap now - CUL

Good morning, everybody.

Ulrich .... Glad you are being treated, and wish you a speedy recovery.

James .... Great to see you again ! I can relate to your situation because there have been times in my life when I was too busy for any hobbies. I've always had model trains, but they were in storage during those times. Please visit the Diner anytime .

V8 Vega.... A lot of those 3-rail trains look beautiful, but I know what you mean about some of the new ones being very expensive.

Chris ... You asked for ideas. What kinds of trains do you have?. What era and location ? ... Meanwhile, look for ideas in Model Railroader and their publications.

Henry .... Sounds like the package handlers were playing rough with your package. Glad the contents survived.

Tin Can ... It is unfortunate people become trouble makers and violate the laws. I'm sure the jury did the right thing in the situation you described.

JohnBoy .... Thanks for commenting .... That is a very sad story about the lady being killed.

YGW .... Thanks for the prayer and I'm glad SIL is recovering. Prayers for her must be helping.

Lion .... I like your photo. Roar back to you!

Have a great day, everyone !

Howdy Brother Elias!  Oh, there are some other folks here as well this afternoon....   ah Evening....  Hmmmmm..  Ahem, my watch says it is morning....

For the past couple months every morning when I check the Weather Channel Page it tells me it is still the day before....  So right now the main page for Geneva, NY says it is 6:25pm yesterday here in town, but over in Waterloo right next door it is 10:25am the next day....  Go figure.  The hourly forecast says it is now 35°F outside but the main page says it is 27°F.......????  I guess I will just add it to the list of things I just don't understand.

Monday when I went grocery shopping at Tops Market, I picked up a gallon of distilled water (actually I picked up 2 gallons of distilled water, but that is irrevelent).  The Store manager was standing right next to me in the aisle so I used the opportunity to ask a question of him.  Again this is one of those many things in the world that I don't understand, so....  "Why is there a use by date on distilled water?"  He looks at me and says, "huh?"  So I say it again!  He scratches his head and I show him the gallon jug.  I ask, so, does it go bad or something?  I mean this is distilled H2O, pure water!  Two atoms of Hydrogen and one atom of Oxygen.  Been around as long as the planet has been here! Water was around before the dinosaurs were here.   So why is there a use by date on Distilled Water???  He didn't know either!

Oh, Garry, meant to say yesterday that you and your family are in my prayers during this unsettling and disturbing time!!!

Best get moving as I need to get my shower and then head over to the Fieldhouse and get some exersize...  Later!

Hi All.

Dropping by during my lunch break.

Ulrich - sorry to hear of your infection and wishing a speedy recovery.  Hope the meds relieve some of the pain.

YGW - yes I do have to work outside, or better said, half the time outside.  It was not too bad last night since the wind subsided.

Back to work; working 10:00 - 18:30 today.

Good morning again!

That was a tough game of hockey last night.  I played very well, but my team kind of collapsed in the last half hour (we play 1 1/2 hours) so we lost by a couple of goals.  We had a poor turnout, too, and with only 2 subs on the bench everyone got quite a workout.  But, I feel pretty good this morning.  Still, I have no idea how I could get up at 6 and go to work every Wednesday morning before I retired.  Retired from work before retiring from hockey had been a goal of mine for a long time.

Ulrich, I like to think positive, so I say "diagnosis is the first step on the road to recovery."  Even better, they don't have to cut you open to fix it.  Cheers.  I'll take a walk outside today and split the aerobic benefits with you.  How's that?
