Hey MrMick!  You obviously haven't had the coffee in this place...  It don't get much stronger....... Whistling

In Photobucket click on the thumbnail to open the larger image of the photo you want place here.  Then in the upper right hand corner of that page find "Share this Photo".  Under that there is a list of possible ways to share.  Click on IMG you will quickly see it will say "copied" for just a second.  Then come here and paste the resulting thingie where you want the photo to be on the page.  For me that is "Command V"  (I use a Mac but it is similar on the Pee Cee.)  Like this:

[ IMG ]http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h259/slow_rr/SLOW_RR_III/SLOW_RR%20IV/LrgGirderStonework06w_zpsvg7mb683.jpg[ /IMG ]

I added a space before and after the [ and ] where it says IMG so you can see what it looks like on the reply page.  When you Submit your reply, the image should be resized to fit on the page.  At least it is for me...  Like this

Hope that will work for you.

Good evening Diners!
Thanks for the various congrats guys, still digesting what this new status means (besides shelling out for a crib, right off the bat! LOL) I started this post late afternoon, and it’s after dinner now – one advantage of working in draft in WORD. So if the time references seem odd, that may be why. Another  is being able to colour text. Maybe coding guru Chris can tell me what I’m doing wrong in trying to get coloured text in the actual Forum reply field. red obviously isn’t cutting it!
Freezing rain last night and a sunny day today has resulted in sparkly trees and shrubs in our neck of the woods, just a wonderful sight. I zoomed our Kodak Point-and-shoot at the birch beyond our garage about 45 minutes ago as the afternoon sun was making it dazzle. Went for a short trip before that, and everywhere was similarly sparking.
Chris:
Flo, my glass is getting empty - another drop of dutch courage please!
You were wondering about just how this “Diner” works, but I think you’re getting the general idea pretty well! Maybe some introductions are in order – since I dropped out about 3 years ago, a night shift waitress has joined the team,  Brunhilde
Your glass was, as you observed, served by Flo
Among the original staff, and if memory serves, these two were in the “Coffee Shop” which preceded the “Diner”:Zoe and Cloe - the Twins They may have red hair, but that strand of the tradition isn’t current lore, it seems – take your pick as to which is which
Their cousin is  Vinnie the waiter and general overseer
You may want to watch yourself, because  Vinnie is said to have “ connections”

As to

got some GREAT info from people much more experienced than me. So It was a surprise to see this post. I guess people who have been here for years "GET IT" - I don't - so please enlighten me instead of asking did I read the original post. I would like to join in on the conversation - but cannot until someone lets me know what its all really about.
We may josh around a bit, since there isn’t anything here for which you would be pulled up in other Forum threads for being OFF TOPIC Cambus nailed it – and BTW,
We dont have diners in the UK only greasy spoon cafes.
you won’t find “the spoon” chained to the counter as in the roadside “caffs” of my youth in the UK! Vinnie wouldn’t stoop so low!
You have to realize that I have no railroad background –
…and neither do I which is why I keep coming back here. There are NO dumb questions, and the Diner Denizens have many years of model railway experience and expertise they are only too willing to share.
Now I am on the SPOT - are those Profriteroles or am I missing the point completely as usual?
Pretty much, but don’t go asking for them by that name unless you are really into blank stares! Those ones were labeled in the store as Cream Puffs.
Okay maybe not Guiness but that's Irish.
– give me a Mackeson over a Guinness any day of the week –
A lot of people here at the Diner seem to know one another pretty well - so I gotta ask do you guys actually go meet each other in person or do you just get to know one another by meeting here?
I’ve only ever met one (Trolley Rob from the old Coffee Shop – and we still email and Facebook. All the rest are cyberfriends…)

Ken: Glad your RS2 ran sweetly. 17 cars and not a cough – very nice!
Barry: Glad you’re back –puemoniaisn’t funny and from what I’ve heard, you may want 9or have) to take it easy for a number of weeks yet. Lost optivisor – I feel your pain!  That ADMX – tell me those vertical stacks are on buildings in the background! LOL
Ulrich: That’s the very best kind of Senior’s moment – what a find! No, let’s hope domestic accord may accompany your powerful ally!
Guess what did not arrive in today´s mail? My magic Japanese saw! I am really angry, as I paid a few bucks extra for speedy delivery. I´ll be claiming this money back!
– bummer! But then, Saturday delivery? It’s another world! LOL
John in Nova Scotia is about the guy living the closest to my place - just a little over 3,000 miles, with a lot of water in between
– for North American Diners, maybe Ulrich but Cambus is in the UK, isn’t he?
Henry:
Put legs on my first bit of bench work at at 47" to the top of the foam, it is great for my neck and back, but it's not going to work with my shredded rotator cuff.  Better to discover this now, than later.
Indeed, but is there a reasonable solution which allows both layout height enjoyment as well as pain free building/operations? I’m aiming for about 48” as a cat deterrent/viewing pleasure ideal.
Garry:
Der John .... Those deserts look good !
They were, they were – and the tense is regrettably past!
Todd: Good to see you! Haven’t been here for a while myself.
CNCharlie:Yorkshire Gold – OK, but don’t ask me to have a Newcastle Brown! You don’t want to hear why….
Dinner time looms, Egg and chips I’m told, which is (or are?) fine by me. The eggs are local free range, even if the chips are frozen wrinkle cut Fries. Love it when the yolks run out into the chips…Dinner
(and as I said at the top, we’re back)
Mr.Mick:
except that the photo was so big you could only view it by moving the mouse around.
_Ah, the dreaded oversized thing. What you have to do is use a photoediting program (my fav is Picture Manager in MS Office, it’s simple and effective for what I do) and Resize your original to something better for use on the Web. Office’s Picture Manager offers is Web Image Large which I find ideal for posting here. Upload only the resized image to Photobucket, and presto – problem solved. I see Chris and Ray have said the same, I’ve maybe added the software suggestion.
Anyway, the washing up awaits…Maybe drop in later.

I use Photoshop, but that is because I used to be in the recording Business back when and I did the entire process including the artwork for the CDs....  Yes, I reduce the size from the full resolution of my Digital Rebel down to 900 x 600 pixels at 72dpi before I upload the files to Photobucket.  I wouldn't ever use photobucket for anything but a place to dump stuff I want to show in places like this or for relatives to browse on the "puter" or dumb phone where you don't need nor want a decent image size/quality... LOL  When I print I use the full res ones on my computer (4272 x 2848 pixels at 712 dpi)!

Evening Diners,

Well I got sick this afternoon after taking a walk at 72 degrees, but it felt like 83 degrees in the heat. I believe the temperature on my keychain. You don't believe how hot it is between 10-3 o'clock.

I decided to pick a pre drawn track plan, I believe it was called the Aberdeen and Rockfish. http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/115287.aspx the second track plan on top. I might change a few things for my liking.

Good Evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have a glass of your finest Pinot Noir, please.  (Expectations are minimal for "fine" wine here)

Chris:  Welcome Welcome to the diner.  Here's my two cents worth.  I started posting in the diner just a little over a year ago.  I live in the Chicago area, but am not indigenous to the region.  I've been to London and Frankfurt many years ago, and lived in LA for ten years.  I started in HO in 1959 and have been in and out ever since.

i think you'll find that as you continue to post, you'll probably be able to relate to a few of the guys more than others, but that's natural, and they're all a good bunch of guys each with a unique story to tell.  Each with different experiences and virtues.  Yet, I've never met any of them.

YGW:  Haven't seen you post for awhile, are you OK?

Der:  just a thought on you track plan.  At the corner of the "L" if you put a hill or some view blocker there, when the trains come around the curve they would make an "entrance" as it were, and proceed down that straight track through the yard.

a question for everyone.  If I want to add an avatar, what is the procedure?  What are the parameters?  Do I need to make like a thumbnail or what?

Hello to everyone.

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good Evening,

My reference to Yorkshire Gold was the brand of a particularly nice tea, not the 'bubbly stuff' so I'm not surprised you were surprised I wanted a few HobNobs with it.

Der, What's wrong with Newcastle Brown? I used to like it but then again I haven't had any for quite some time. I'm not much of a beer drinker but prefer the darker stuff. Keith's IPA isn't bad though.

Nice to see some new faces in the diner. Sure wish a few of the old regulars would put in an appearance. We haven't heard from Rob in quite some time. I hope is just busy on the farm.

Nearly time for East Enders, so I will say Good Night.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I just need a refil for my decaf at the moment....

Charlie, I was thinking about Rob a couple days ago.  It has been a long time since he was here!  Do hope he is OK.

I got to spend some time in the train room today between feeding my sister's cats and a few other things that had to get done.  Did make a bit more progress I think...  This was where it ended up yesterday:

This is this evening...  Got the other stone wall glued in place and everything adjusted so the bridge should fit perfectly and a bit of the scenery started...

Hope everyone have a great night!  Wonder what happened to Galaxy?

Boy the dinner is hopping this month! I was going to post last night but by the time I read all the post I was beat!

Work Yesterday Not real busy but was OK. Jerry got a caboose chewing from Paul for doing again what he was told not to do few days before. I really don't think he will ever get with the program.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes (Birkett Mills mix would be great), some real NYS Maple Syrup (You got that back in stock I hope), a couple sausage links, and a very large pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee to keep me awake for the day.  Thank you Ma'am...

Today.......  the.. SUN!!! is supposed to shine!  All day long they are predicting.  Shadows can be seen all over the place and the little wheel down cellar next to the Inverter should be spinning pretty good.  Yesterday was pretty good.  The solar panels produced 8.12kWh with only a couple sunny patches during the day.  It was the second best day so far this year.  In a couple more months they will be kicking out 3 times that much on a regular basis.

Brother Elias, I don't know...  Those Wild Horses can have a lethal kick I hear...  I do know who is going to win the "Stupid Bowl" this year!  the team that scores the most points..... WhistlingLaugh  I won't be watching it this year as my son has to w*rk today.  I don't even want to hear the Star Spangled Banner to start the game.  Last year that was the high point of the evening!!! Smile, Wink & Grin

Catch you all later!  Hey Galaxy!...  You out there???

Good Afternoon!

It´s been a slow day here. I have just been playing with my trains and made a short video of my refurbished Furka-Oberalp Railway boxcab electric circling the track.

I hope my magic Japanese saw will arrive tomorrow, so I can do some patching jobs before attacking the remaining bigger foam jobs.

I am worried about Galaxy! I assume they took him back into the hospital which he shouldn´t have left at all before being all well!

Good morning gang, coffee and some milk.

Ulrich this video is for you from yesterday's trainshow.

There was also a Japanese Railroad group.  In 'merical these days we aren't supposed to profile, but they all looked like white guys to me.Big Smile

You guys misunderstood my post about layout height.  It's going to hard for me to lay track and such at 47" because that is where my shoulder starts to give out and it becomes tiring quickly.  However you did make me reconsider and for now the legs are spared the chop say.

Der you need to decide if it's color or colour.

Brother Lion sorry you have joined the sick bay crowd.  There are too many of us there.  These guys might have you beat on benchwork simplicity for their subway:

Back to the real world.  We took off a week ago and drove north to do some midweek skiing.  No crowds, no lines, no clueless teens high on Red Bull.  Now, that's the way to ski.

I don't own a laptop or a smart phone (who needs a phone that's smarter than I am?) so I get out of touch with the world when I'm off skiing like that.  We drove home Friday morning in a snowstorm, and got home to find the driveway plowed but no power.  We were out for about 30 hours.  The power came back Saturday evening.  I was out listening to music at a bar in the next town, and returned to find a warm house and a garage door that opened when I pushed the button.

A couple of folks mentioned about colored texts and image sizes. Well I don't know much about tags for this site but you can use "real" HTML markup and do anything you want in the post. Click on the Tools tab at the top of the editor and select source code. If your eyes are starting to glaze over now then move on to the next post ;-)

See the output below:

Hello World

Here is the same image as shown above in a much clearer size for this forum window:

As you can see the exact same image displays in many different sizes without having to resize and save the original image. BTW, thats my PRR (Purvis Rail Road) office above with my water tower. It took me months to design that PRR logo - but it looks good to me ;-)

der5997,

Thanks for that explanation of "the diner" and photos of our waitresses. Still trying to take it all in.

As it's Super Bowl Sunday, Flo, I think I'll order some chicken wings, cajun crab dip, salami and cream cheese with some chips and dip. I'll worry about indigestion later.

Flo, I woud like a cup of coffee, black, please.

I thought that I would take a break - we be getting ready for some folks to come over to watch the game  today.   I been working on  today's Honey-Do list, which was a little longer than the usual, but we're in good shape now.

Galaxy has been missing since the third...I too hope that he is ok, he' has had a rough spell of late, with his buddy Train Nut and some physical things that have cropped up - also hoping that things ar OK with him and family, hoping that he's been taken care off.

Still can't get to post a photo of those Tunnel Portals that I worked on, but still trying, too.  I appreciate all the hints sand suggestions, and if you see a large red cloth going by, that would be the towel I throwed in. Not ready too, yet.  I would also like to post a pic or two of the Marklin layout that I am privileged to work on with maybe  some elaboration on the history-which Ulrich was pretty close to guessing on in his post.

Gotta help Barbara with  the Chicken Wings...wow, that was a pretty strong coffee, maybe next time I'll get it with some cream!

an 'Welcome Aboard', Chris.

Answering the MIA call! I've kept up with the posts. Lots happening in here, some good and some not so good.

Nice to see some "new blood" , and welcome!

Packers aren't playing, so no horse in the SB for me. I'll pull for the Broncos, though.

My father took me to Superbowl III in 1969.

Namath kicked our butts.  I'm certain our tickets didn't cost $5000.  We went to the airport after the game and had dinner waiting for our flight out.  Howard Cosell, Dandy Don and Frank Griffith? were next to us.  They had been to the bar before that or maybe their limo had a bar.

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please and give Henry one as well.

I am done helping Jerry for free! For the last 3 months I have been pretty much helping and not getting my name on the ticket. (means I get half of the commission) In this kind of sales, if you have to ask for help from the other salesperson (In my case manager) it becomes a split deal. I had to help him again today (saved two deals for him Saturday) and I wanted my name on the ticket.

He explained that "With you being the manager it is your job to help me!" I explained to him in this bussines being the manager pretty much means all I do is order over the inventory. I make the same per hour as him, same commission rate and there is no over ride (% of his sales) of his sales. Did not go into the fact that I now make $500.00 less a month because I lost all of the overtime I was making!

Going to talk with Paul Monday about this caboose. If I have to save one of his deals either by closing the deal or fixing a derailment (Thursday he sold 3 box spring, that we only had 1 of) I want half the ticket!

Ken: Glad your RS2 ran sweetly. 17 cars and not a cough – very nice!

Der Yep a good little engine, but little is the keyword. OK, about the sizes of my GP 7 but is lite weight. After all RS stands for Road Switcher, kind of forgot that till today. Found it limit's last night, it is not going to drag 20 50 foot hoppers. A Proto 1000 F-3 would make short work on that many. Still a good looking engine and for $35.00 what the heck!

BBQ is done and so am I

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, a refil of my decaf would be great!

Hey, hey, hey!!!  Denver all the way!  I'm really not a football fan but I did enjoy watching the first half of the stupor bowl tonight.  And I am really happy that Peyton Manning gets to finish up a long career with a win like this.  Denver's defence has been their strong point all season (according to my son who keeps track of such things) and what I saw tonight certainly showed that.  Sorry Lion but those Bronco's came out kicking...

Had a nice dinner with the family at a local Italian Restaurant over in Waterloo and then came back to the house for the Birthday Cake and Ice Cream about the time the game started.  I managed to drive to Waterloo and then to my son's house on EV only, charged while I was there and made it home on EV...  I am getting 100mpg on this tank so far.  Have driven 400 miles on about 4 gallons of Dinasaur Dung.  The solar panels on the roof kicked out 13.25 kWh today, the best so far this year, so I am happy at the moment.

Hope you all have a great night.  Stay safe and warm!

Good Morning!

Today is the heyday of this year´s Carnival season in Germany, usually celebrated with big parades in the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mainz and numerous other towns and cities. But there won´t be any parades today - they have been cancelled due to a bad storm expected to hit. It´s more of a political than a real storm...

I found an interesting video on life in Germany in the early 1950´s . Watching it brought back many a fond, but also not fond memory of my childhood days.

A pretty good description of how life was in those days!  Things have changed dramatically since then. The lack of cars in the 1950´s is intriguing! In 1956, my year of birth, we had a little over 2.1 million cars in Germany or 1 car for 215 people now the figure reads 42 million or 1 car for 1.8 people - what a change!

Well, today my saw should be arriving, so that puts and an to the dust truce!

Have a good one!

Hi Sir Madog

Looking at history can be interesting sometimes how things have changed just in ones own life time can be pretty amazing.

Why is it when we look back Bad bit's included it was allway's better back then even if things clearly where not, what is it about the past that has us trapped so to speak in the so called better world of the past.

My concernes are a bit more here and now heard from the surgeons the other day

Things are at last moving on the last phase of fixing my eyes.

When thats done complete my 4'6" square empire

Then on to the NOT The San Juan Central even though its got the same track plan well all most and its a smaller gauge by a whole 1mm and will be a lot greener.

Must get on to Puffing Billy and see if they have a drawing of Monbulk Creek trestle

Oh waiter! a flat white and a lamington please

regards John

Sir Madog

Guess what was not in the mail today! Sad

Well, that's too bad.  It's nice to get a new toy to play with, particularly when the weather is bad and you don't feel like even going outside.

That will be our situation today.  We will be getting 3-6 inches of snow.  This should be light snow, though, and probably won't bother our power any like the last one.

I was happy to see Peyton Manning get another Superbowl ring.  He's always been a classy player and a hard worker.  If that was to be his last game, and most of us think it was, he deserved to go out on top.

As for me, I think I'll work on those company houses again.  I've got to paint the chimneys and glue them to the roofs, and then solder some wires together for the interior and porch lights.

Galaxy?  Where are you?

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good  morning .

John Busby ... Nice to see you here in the Diner.

Ulrich ... Maybe it will arrive tomorrow.

Mr. B ... The company houses project sounds like a good indoor activity during a winter day.

I continue to be concerned about Galaxy

On my model railroad, I continue working on track.
