Lobstah!
We had no power Friday and Saturday thanks to the snowstorm, so I went out to the closest thing we've got to a diner for breakfast. I hadn't been there in years, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, both for the food and for the people. There's just something about diner coffee, served in a cup with sides half an inch thick, that can not be beat.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Green chili burritos. (Okay, that's more New Mexico than Arizona, but close enough.)
Richard
That´ll be knuckle of pork, sauerkraut and potato dumplings and, of course, plenty of the local brew...
Mind if you spare me out on this one?
This meal is said to be the epitome of the German kitchen, but you can´t pay me enough to eat it. I´d rather go for a nice steak, medium, a baked potato w/sour cream and a nice side dish of either string beans or a salad w/ blue cheese dressing!
Sir Madog Neal - the good thing about this places is it serves the kind of food you like and the way you like it. If you dig greasy burgers (like our friend Barry does) - go for it. If you are a little weak in your stomach and require steamed and tasteless veggies for your diet - they´ve got it! Even palatable organic food is on the menu - should you like to have that! The most importand issue in the diner, however, is friendship!

A big and hearty !
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy eggs, bacon, homefries, and a double order of the sour dough toast please. Oh and give Galaxy a refill of whatever he is having!
Hey Galaxy, good to have you here this morning! Do know that you have been and are in my prayers with all that life has thrown at you lately. Do get the folks to test the jouse and find out what is causing your allergies. Most likely something that can be rectified, but if not you should have legal recourse I woulf think.
I have been trying to set up a meeting with a couple Scout Executives and a few people on the Pack/Troop Committee to discuss the DDSO Grant money the units get for the handicapped Scouts. The grant needs to be renewed next year and all is in chaos on several things needing to be done for it. Of course getting the meeting arranged is one of those trying to find a moment or two in a bunch of very busy peoples lives to sit down and get things done... The other Commissioner who knows a lot more than I about it spent yesterday at the hosp;ital with his wife. They thought she had a mini-stroke, but after hours of tests and such things decided she had a major migraine headache that made her blind in one eye! The eye is now fine and her sight is the same as it was before, none of the tests showed any sign of a stroke. So, as they were leaving Dave (her husband and one of my best friends) who is blind on one side from a major stroke he had a couple years ago turned and whacked his head on the elevator door spliting the skin big time right above his eye. He asked a nurse if they had a first aid kit (always the Scouter!). He got rushed to the Emergency Room and recieved 5 stiches..... That explains why I could get him on the phone yesterday.
I need to get moving, take my shower and head over to the Feildhouse for a walk! Catch you all later!

I need a break!
The saw finally arrived - the mailman was later than usual so I didn´t expect it to come today. It already "saw" a lot of action and the "heavy stuff" of putting the foam scenery in is now done! It was a formidable mess, but SWMBO didn´t give me "the look" - that will come later. It won´t be the last time for me to make a mess - there is still a lot of fine shaping and texturing to do!
Glad to see Galaxy back - I was worried!
Janie, coffee and a slice of that apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream und rum raisins, please.
Galaxy, good to see you back. I'd go nuts if I had to wait that long for an xray result.
I'm on deck for one of those for my hip after I see the quack today. It started hurting 2 years ago and now it's waking me up at night. Unless you broke it, symptoms are always worse than the actual hip xray.
The last three Washington DC subway fatal incidents were all caused by problems that were known not but not fixed. How no one has been tried for negligent homicide, I do not understand. We put too much faith in technology.
The glue is drying on the 2" foam and I was up late playing around with SCARM, squeezing too much track into the available space.
3" of forecast snow, tuned into a day of rain and a light dusting. It's already above freezing so it won't last long.

Good Morning!
The death toll of the Bad Aibling train accident has risen to 10 now and could even go higher. Inquieries into what caused the two trains running head-on on the same track continue. While some allocate the responsibilty to the dispatcher acting carelessly, others state that, given all the electronic security devices, it had required a "deliberate act" of terrorism. I wonder whether we will ever learn the real cause!
Looking at the grim statistics of train wrecks in Germany in the past 50 years, it is interesting to see that most of them happened in Bavaria - maybe too much ?
John - thanks for posting the tube map. Brings back memories of my time in London, when I was taking to District Line from Ealing Broadway to Embankment station every morning. That´s a quarter of a century ago -
No saw in the mail today - I am miffed (pardon this BE expression)!
Hi all
Just a polite warning on the lamingtons you won't be able to stop at just one
If you have an extra sweet tooth and a spare as well try the ones with jam and cream.
My sympathy also goes out to the victims of the train wreck not being a very religeous person, perhaps someone who is could say a prayer on my behalf.
Those in a cold snap could I borrow some cold its a wonderfull 42c today and we are having a bit of a heat wave should be over in a couple of days but it's not helping the Fireie's down south much.
Their having a bit of a hard time down that way and its not been help by a fire bug, perhaps smokey could invite him to lunch if they catch them nah! bad idea don't want to give smokey food poisoning.
OOW a Tube Map havn't seen one of those for 42 years used to get from Liverpool St to Holbourn (spelling) twice a year and go to near Holloway twice a year to see late favorite Aunt who was Hospital Matron @ Holloway she would have had to be as hard as iron for that job but I never saw that side of her.
Not doing much of anything exept hiding in air conditioning glue and paint drying to fast.

I just haven't felt like posting. Either been busy, or just not felt like it.
What with Christian's suicide, and the spot on my lung looming { I hope to learn the CT results Friday}, and all, I have been contemplating life, and contemplating where My life has been, where it is now, and where it may go-good or bad test results- in the future.
Still have a nagging cough and we are wondering about the indoor air quality of the house. May cost us something like a few hundred dollars, but we'd like to know. I find when I go out to someplace else my breathing gets easier. but as soon as I hit thedoor here, my lungs get tight and actually start to hurt. I've had the cough and thusly pneumonia about since I moved in. THe first two nights my nose, throat, and lungs got dried out but I thought was because I forgot to fill the resevoir on the CPAP. BUT: i have had to increase the humdity by 400% to get relief, and MOH is always complaining if the humidity in the house goes below 50% as the air is too dry. Now it could simply be the heat running, OR it could be the business they ran here had chemicals used, and worst of all, if they were manufacturing something illegal like meth, it could render the house unusable according to news reports, and must be disclosed upon sale.
I ran an experiment and opened the LR door and the bath window, about almost opposites for quick cross ventilation. I could breath easier then in the draft, but when I closed them, it got worse again. so we are wondering. will have to contact residential testing services. ALso there IS a radon mitigatgion system in the basement, don't knpw what if anything, that may have to do with anything, should make that better.
Now, I am not contemplating following Christian's path, or rather my previous path of attempts trying to succeed this time, and am not really down in the dumps, just contemplating. Contemplating, contemplating.
MOH, upon learing about the spot on my lung, Immediately said "I don't know what I am going to do without you". SO MOH has me dead and buried already! Lets all hope, pray and keep fingers crossed that it is NOTHING more than a spot on an Xray.
SO, If I am missing the next few days dont worry. I am just contemplating, plus I have 8 medical appts. in 5 days this week.
Busy rest of the month, which may get interrupted if somethinf is more than jsut a spot on an Xray.
take care

Good Evening Diners,
Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.
I grabbed a few b+w photos that I took back in the early 60s and will scan them at work tomorrow. Really nothing to write home about.
i do have a slide that I took of UP GP30 831 that I took in Glendale back in the 70s, but it too is not all that great. That's the one I want for my avatar, but I'm not sure who digitizes slides any more. I sure can't afford to have it done at a lab.
i also have a couple that I took of the Slim Guage Guild before they dismantled the old layout in the 70s. Those too, are slides.
Ulrich: train wrecks are always such a tragedy. I feel for the families involved. I hope there are no more fatalities.

Ulrich ... The train accident was in the news here. Sounds very bad
Terry ... You are welcome.
der5997Lion: Good to see your subway – that’s a terminal I take it. When I was a kid/teen, our local connection was the southern terminal of the Northern Line on the London Underground Look for the Underground logo and go left to the bottom of the black slanting line and that’s Morden. We lived in “Lower Morden” a penny bus fare away!
Is Coney Island Station. In NYCT practice it is two lines arriving from the south (side of the station) and two lines arriving from the north.
On Line of LION, the two right hand tracks passes through the station to the end of the line. It is only layups that arrive at tracks 3-6. Maybe I will make 3 and 4 a short turn station.

Went over to the Fieldhouse and did 4 laps today. I'm sure I could have kept on going for a couple more which would be a little over a mile, but decided not to push it. What I did today was a little over 2/3rds. mile. Tomorrow I shall try to do 5 laps, just under a mile. Feels good to be back walking again.
Ulrich: Two trains collided head-on this morning in Bavaria, leaving 9 people dead and over 80 injured. The accident occured on a single track line, protected by numerous safety systems, which all must have failed. Both train drivers and the conductors are among the killed people. The site of the accident is difficult to reach as the tracks are on a steep slope adjacent to a river. Survivors had to be air-lifted from the site. Join me in prayer for the casualties and their relatives! I’ll have to see if there is a mention of this on our Bavarian friends Facebook. The photos from Spiegel online really show how difficult that site is. Thanks Henry for that link.

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my R&GV RR Mug and a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts over there to dunk in it... Please and thank you Ma'am.
A somewhat gloomy day outside today. Currently 36°F under cloiudy skies. A few flurries are expected from time to time. It was all nice and white out there when I got up this morning. That is pretty much all gone now as the temp will peak at 38°F later this afternoon.
I will be going to Canandaigua to feed the kitties early this afternoon, and will spend the rest of the day trying to get caught up on some things that should have gotten done a few days ago. Will find some time to get a bit done on the area of the layout where the girder bridge will go.
Terry, Nice layout! Do you hold operating sessions on it?
Best get myself moving....

Not much going on today. Great day to run trains!

Your looking at the top of the cars, Lion! I have no idea why parts of the ancillaries on the roof have that yellow paint stuck onto them.
Sir Madog Lunchtime! Flo, I´ll go for a Barry-sized burger with all the works and to go with it, please. Still no sign of the saw! According to the delivery tracking system, it´s stuck in Hamburg since Monday, 13.30 hrs. To say I am annoyed and angry is an understatement! Thanks, Barry .... I think model railroaders would like to know they may not have to include guard rails on bridges. Now, they won't know unless they look at the thread in Trains Forum. .... Actually, I have a bridge without guard rails, and eventually I was going to add guard rails to it. Now I see I do not need to.
Other stuff .... I corrected the track that was causing my BLI E7's to derail.

Credit Card Front. As some of you know I am trying to rebuild my credit. Hard to beleve when I bought my house 25 years ago my credit was so good that it delayed closing? Not a single late payment for 7 years, the bank thought it was a hack job.
I got a Capital One card 6 months ago with a $1,000.00 limt and was happy. But, I wanted a few more to help with the credit history. Had some more pre-approved BS offers with $75 and $100 a year fee's so I can make them money? No thanks!
Capital One did say if I make on time payments for 6 months they would raise my credit limt. I have been using the card a lot and making over payments sometimes 2 or 3 a month. I was hopping for a $1500.00 limt. Well I was today when I checked the account! I now have a $5,000.00 limit and that will give me a 11% credit usage. That will sure help my credit score!

Today has been a busy one! Right after lunch I went over for my dentist appt. No cavities, no copmplaints about my brushing either. The lady dentist was on duty there today and she checked everything over and said, "I want to refit a couple of your crowns that hang over the teeth they are on. I'm thinking, "Wonderful! How many thousand will that set me back?" So I asked... She held her hand in a big circle... Zero! So I will make an appointment in a few weeks when things have settled down a bit around here. She is concerned that food gets caught in between the teeth because there is a sharp edge to the crown where it meets the tooth. I have noticed that and probably it will be better with the new crown. That crown was put in by the guy who used to own the practice, but they accepted all corrections to his work when they took over. They just went up big time in my estimation!!!
After the dentist, I went shopping for groceries, and no sooner got back from that when I found an email from an old Musician friend and RR nut. He is assembling a rocket kit and found the decals they sent with the rocket are printed in Black letters and the letters on the photo of the rocket (and the prototype) are red. So I told him to come over and I could reprint the decals for him with the letters in red.... Sometimes it is fun to show off what I can do with Photoshop and InDesign..... He now has a set of identical Decals in red! I gave him the 50¢ tour of the SLOW and figured out he hasn't been here in about 5 years.... Found out that is because he has been battling cancer! He is now basically in remission and doing very well. Finally has picked up his instruments and wants to start playing again. He is a former Music Teacher and organized an excellent local big band jazz group that played for many years in the area. It was good to see him and chat for the evening!
MrMick you are most welcome. Glad I could be of help! The portals look great, BTW.
I just checked to see if I could find anything about Galaxy checking the local news down where he is. No obituaries, so I assume he may have gone back to the hospital for his breathing problems or something else. Maybe his 'puter is out of commission or something. Will be keeping him in my prayers!
Hope everyone has a great night!
