Flo, can I get a cup o coffee and glazed donut.

I see the diner is empty - where have all the diners gone?

Anyhoo, its just another day in paradise here in little ole mississippi. Weather moderate and no humidity to talk about. My cat "Furbie" is probably going to have kittens - she looks a bit fat round the middle. Which is fine as we usually keep most of the kittens or friends and family snag em up. So it works itself out eventually, even thought we ususally have 3-4 cats at any one time.

Only one cat became a "trainspotter" and would sit with me in the garage and watch the loco's on the layout. All the others would stalk the loco's like a mouse and go in for the kill. So they were banned.

Gotta go do some work - hope other diners drop in.

Chris.

Evening all,

Flo, can I have a glass of water please and a crusty pretzel loaf.

So I am trying to catch up on what I was missing for the past week in the diner. Howmus - the Soreen loaf is excellent. Full of all the stuff thats not realy good for you. Well maybe if your under 21.

I am going to buy a brass car for my layout - nothing expensive - but I have never seen or owned a brass piece for my layout. I just want to know what all the fuss is about with brass.

Well, I gotta go cook dinner - shepards pie. Yummy! Actually it's only ground beef, carrots and peas with a potato topping.

Chris.

Ulrich: you're not kidding about the blue in the trees. One can see it plainly. Part of that is because your ground cover has what appears to be a lot of yellow in it, which would put the green in the grass on the warm side. I would assume the grass is mixed with beige (dirt) and really sharpens the cooler blue in the trees. Do Blue Spruce trees grow in that region? Because initially I kind of thought that's what they were supposed to be.

Actually, it is WS medium green fine turf, sprinkled on brown underground (various shades of brown).

The region I am modeling has mainly larches, so if I succeed in putting "needles" to these generic fir trees, they should look OK.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Work was peacefull and I enjoyed it.

Got home mopped the floors and out to the Train Room / Garage.

Train Front Whistling Replaced the DH121 that lost it mind with a new DH166 PK1000 UP F7-A. Sat the CV's that was a speed match to the B unit. Saved the CV's with Decoder Pro and it seemed like that took 15 minutes, more than likely 3 minutes put it seemed long to me. I wanted to run the trains! Big Smile

Well, that did not work well. Sigh The A and B unit no longer like each other. Bang Head Pull the B unit and gave it another try, hum that did not work either? Funny part the same train was being pulled a single PK 1000 F3-A (same chassis, motor and weight) with not a problem? Pulled a few cars and all is fine now.

YGW I did a count on the coal cars and it is 12. If it is not busy Tuesday I will be calling you.

Berry So you had a burnt intake and exhaust valve? Boy you where back firing from both ends!

 Steve Get well soon!

 Later, Ken

Good Evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have an Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Last weekend, I spent an evening with my son.  Had Mexican, Enchiladas Rojas to be specific, then took in the new Star Wars flick.  It was fun.  We'll see how far Disney will milk the new franchise.

Speaking of movies, glad to see DiCaprio won.  Not that any of that matters one bit.

Anyway, very nice modeling.

Barry, get well quickly.  Hope they fixed everything.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Good evening, all.  An other nice day in the mid-Ohio Valley.  Pruned the rhododendron as it was headed toward the neighbor's driveway.  Took the new dog for a ride in my Silverado to the yard waste recycle facility.  She seemed to enjoy riding in a bigger truck.

Spent part of the afternoon scraping glue, paint and joint compound off the ties removed to rework the yard lead in.  Actually cleaned up pretty easily.  Just had lots to clean up.  Did a second coat of joint compound to level out the second switch location.

YGW, I sharpen my chiesels on an oil stone to ruff sharpen and then four progressive plate glass plates with sand paper.  My chisels are dangerously sharp when finish sharpened.  Learned the technique from Fine Woodworking magazine.

Healing prayers to those in need.

Getting my hockey fix tonight.  Also have to check in on the alma maters basketball game as George Njange is playing his final home game.

Evenin' folks!

Dinner is in the oven cooking...  Macaroni and cheese, freshly home made.  Couldn't find anything that appealed to me at the grocery store that could be done quickly.  Was going to buy a 4 piece bag of their fried chicken, but they didn't have any.  Well what I am having is probably better for me anyway.....

Did make it over to the Fieldhouse this afternoon after a couple of other places I needed to visit (the LHS being one).  Not only did the mile quicker, but did one more lap at the end.  So today I did 7 laps!  Hope to get that up to 11 laps which would be just under two miles by May when I see my doctor.  Tonight I will be photographing the art work so I can get it stored on my computer and take the originals back to the School buildings.  Also made an appointment to get my hearing aids cleaned and reset (for tomorrow) and a dental appointment to get a triple crown I have replaced with one that will fit better.  That one is on Thursday....

Loco Guy, the Soreen Fruit Loaf looks good!

Catch you all later!

Flo,

I need a cup of tetley tea and some Soreen Fruity Loaf please.

I need the Soreen loaf buttered - thanks.

Just back from Disney - everything hurts - feet - legs - bones, etc. But had a good time apart from that. Also got to raid the English store for the goodies I can't get here.

After 23 years in the USA I have adapted to most things but some weird British stuff is still a luxury I cannot resist. Forget Cricket, English beer, and most other things. Jelly Babies, Fruit pastilles, Fruit gums and Soreen fruit loaf cannot be replaced.

Ran the trains last night - and everything is going hunky dory - so that's a relief. Also got to ride the trains at Disney - the "real" 4-6-0 steam loco in the Magic kingdom and the "fake loco" in Animal kingdom - but both were good.

Chris.

Good Afternoon,

Just back from doing a few errands. Sure is nippy out there.

I am running a Mike with a short drag of mostly box cars. It is the BLI unit I bought last year. I like it a lot as it runs well and has good sound.

As far as railfanning while track walking, the building is parallel to the tracks so I get to see the trains as I come around the curve. Mostly just freight hauled by several large diesels, not sure of the type as I don't pay much attention to modern stuff.

I see the squirrels are back trying to get the seed out of the feeders. Time for a little Border Security. We just say those words and Robbie runs to the back door ready to send them off. Not sure how he learned to equate squirrels with Border Security but we never really know with that dog.

Time for Bondi Vet,

Steven Otte

*cough* *cough*

What with all the regular Diners who are in the hospital or otherwise dealing with more severe ailments, my little cold seems hardly worth complaining about... yet it's only through the grace of Day-Quil I am here today. I just hope it doesn't get as bad as my wife has it; she's been knocked for a loop all last week. I can tell you, I'm also not looking forward to the 3-6" of snow we're forecast to get tonight. And it was in the 50s yesterday!

Best wishes to all those battling health issues, and to those who don't want to be, stay clear of this end of the lunch counter... a mug of chicken soup, please, Daisy... *sniff*

Steve, I am now in my TENTH week of fighting pneumonia, including a hospital stay if you missed it, and may have to "serve time again"...if iit doesn't clear up, I see the pulmonologist tomorrow.

Mie started off as a "little cold"....and 3 weeks later I was in the hospital with pneumonia!

AS long as I am on anitbiotics {i don't know if they do any good or not} and steroids {roid rage????? ask my spouse!} I SEEM to do better, but now 3rd day off and breathing is getting harder again as I am essentially drowning in my own fluid.

sobest of luck to you beating it, Mr. Otte

Afternoon Diners,

Don't worry Steven. Most of us small colds, I slept half the day yesterday on my cold. I can't even stand after trying to wake up. I forced myself to wash dishes and cook dinner for the family. (When I sleep in the daytime there's a problem, I normally don't take naps.)

Take care.

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Let me order first.   Chloe, when you get a chance, see if you could rustle me up a Double Denver with Home Fries and bring along that Jet powered blender so I'll be able to get it down my tube. Cherry Coke to chase, Please and thanks.

Barry,  Glad to see you back in here, hope things progress quickly and you get back to normal (whatever that is ) or even better than before.

Not much happening on the LM&E lately as I have just been too busy with work and we have been looking after our Grandson and my Son's two dogs for a week while they were in Vegas on a bit off a break ( which is what we need now ) It is amazing that a four year old can take a 75 year old right to his knees, boy do they tire you out.

Well, it is now that time of the year to start to get all the income tax info and papers & receipts together.  RAY, just reminded me of that, so I guess that is what I will do this afternoon.

Mr. Otte, sure hope you can kick that "bug" quickly too as the colds going around this winter are not nice at all. I think it is because of the milder weather that a lot of the bugs and things have not died off.  Time for some Rum and Hot Chocolate, it always used to work for me when I still drank a little.

John Busby,  Good luck with the upcoming surgery.  Angel for you and your Surgeon.

Ulrich,    Your layout has come along great. It really has the right flavor.   Great Video, I love Monorails.

James Moon,  Congratulations on the new adition to the Family. Rescue dogs are great. My Son in Grande Prairie, Alberta has always had Airedales. At one time he had three of them at the same time.

CN. Charlie,    Sure glad you got that bathroom finished. It gives me hope.  We have been doing our main bath for about as long as you were. We have the tub and shower done, the stippled ceiling stripped off and painted the walls are painted, new toilet and floor, two days ago we ordered the new vanity top with sink, will probably order the new mirror this week and I have the supplies for all the new moulding and trim. I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, just hope it's not the CZ.

Haven't posted for awhile now, but I have been sitting in the back watching some of the action.  Some of it is pretty sad, some of it has me ROTF.  It is also nice to see some new faces as well as a few MIAs.  We've missed you guys.

For those who are interested, my health is fairly good, I'm maintaining my weight although it is about 30 lighter than when I was first diagnosed. I still cannot swallow anything and probably never will now.  And my blenders have become my best friends.  I count my blessings everyday and know how fortunate that I am to be Cancer free now.

Thanks again for all of your kind considerations, thoughts, prayers and emails and PMs. They really helped and was great to know Fellow MMRs cared enough to think of me.

Prayers and Blessings to all in need, especialy for Kelly, (YGW's SIL ) and her Boys.

Steve wrote "my little cold seems hardly worth complaining about... yet it's only through the grace of Day-Quil" Steve sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. I hope as rotten as you feel that you dont have top go out and shovel snow, that could make you lot sicker. Here is a Angel for quick recovery.

Ulrich LOL !!! Yea I did kinda butcher his spelling - ooops - Embarrassed if you need some trees just let me know I will send you some at my expense.

CN Charlie - What did you run in HO ? Steam ? Diesal ? Passenger ? Coal ? Freight ? You are just teasing us ! I would find it very difficult to try to jog and not stop and watch the trains. How in the world do you stay focused when something passes by ?

Mornin' folks!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola with blueberries, and a pot of Café Justo Dark roast Coffee.  My R&GV RR Mug would do fine. Thank You Ma'am!

It is 36°F and partly cloudy outside this morning....  Sun is out, then gone, then shining, then dark.....  I think they got it right for a change.

Just finished up and filed my taxes, so that is taken care of for the year.  Got a warning from the tax program that i will have to update the OS on my Mac next year as they no longer will suoppoort my old OS.  Probably time anyway....  the new OS has lots more "bells and Whistles" that I don't want and won't use, but better security thay say.

Barry, good to have you back in here.  Hope you continue to recover and get stronger, my friend.  You are in my prayers!

Haver a great day out there everyone!

Good Morning,

It is a rather frosty -12F with a -32F windchill right now but it is sunny.

Barry, glad to hear you are on the mend!

I really don't have much to report here. We have been doing some sorting of cupboards and so not very exciting. No real work on the RR, just a little train running on the HO.

Yesterday we were at the gym doing our laps. I have now gotten up to 2 miles which is good but a little slower than I would like. The facility is right beside as in 50 feet from the CN main. The end walls are all glass so I get to do some railfanning while doing laps.

Well it is time to get outside and tend to the bird feeders and top up the water in the bird bath which is heated. We had about an inch of snow last night but the snow elves came this morning so the drive is shovelled.

What type of trees are you looking for maybe I can share some that I have ?

YGW - there is a quick & dirty (and cheap) way to make tthos trees look a lot better - more like the larches they are supposed to represent. I will spray them with a flat, very dark olive paint from a rattle can and while the paint is still wet, hook up my ancient static grass applicator and sprinkle fine grass fibers on them. I have more of those trees on order - probably enough to "populate" my layout sufficiently.

Pelle Søeborg is probably used to having his name misspelled slightly, but Sourburg is a new one Laugh

Barry - good to see ya! Continuing Angel for you!

Flo

Brunch is on me. Fill em up for everyone and anyone who wants anything ! I am celebrating the break of weekend before last awfulness. This week end was pretty good for a change. All four women, wife and three daughters ( for the most part ) got along with each other including one female cat and two female dogs. I think I will put a historical marker out front and say on this day in 2016 7 females got along with out one cat fight  Whistling . Also the terible Laundry room has finally hit its final stages of finish. Sanded the drywall ( looked like I had a fight with a ten pound bag of flour from the drywall sanding ) my wife came home as I finished sanding and busted out laughing Surprise. Painted teh ceiling, cut the walls in and painted one wall ( ran out of paint ) then painted the trim, hooked the dryer up to the new vent, worked perfect, and reinstalled the switch cover and installed the rod in the laundry built in. Almost there !

Train front - the new building the for that will hold the train room stalled because of the power line that runs right through the middle of where I wanted to install teh building. This past week I talked to my engineers and they agreed to help at either pro bono or reduced cost to help me come up with a solution. Yes that project will be restarting soon !!!

Another bit of good news. I have a 1994 F150 XLT pickem up truck. The enging after 252k miles developed a severe engine problem ( two cylenders ran w/o oil ) Bang Headso an engine overhaul was in order. I have saved and scrimped and paid for the engine as the funds arrived. Well this weekend I drove the ole ford home Big Smile, I love that truck. I am delighted that my daughters love it two - but I can see a fight brewing. There are three girls and only two seat belts - they all sat in the bench seat and said Daddy look we can fit we dont need seat belts. I told them there momma would kill me ! Then they went to mom which they were met with a resounding - ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! Not sure how I am goona work that out ? Wonder if Momma will let them ride in the bed ? Whistling

Ulrich - That is INSANE track work in the video. What type of trees are you looking for maybe I can share some that I have ?

John - what an AWSOME idea tracks in the horspital for moving around !

Jim - if you want to make the chisel even sharper - cut a hone in it, sharpen it on a stone and then sharpen it on a piece of leather - if you do that it will shave hair !

BO - Glad to hear the good news. Tell Audrey - THNAK YOU - for keeping us posted.

Lion - did the cleaning of the bench get side tracked by the train running ?

Richard - agree

Mr. B - B careful skiing

Ken - call me when you get chance

Der - what would custom do if you rolled up with a truck load of material. The Pastor I gave the material to ( this was his second load ) cried ! He is remodeling a house now that he is retired and he ran out of money for the material. I gave him enough material to trim the entire interior, a Jacuzzi brand soaking tub, exterior soffit and fascia ( very expensive synthetic stuff ) framing material, siding. He went away praising God for his faithfulness. YesBig Smile

That Pastor, when my wife was about to die came to the hospital bed where my wife lay and we were waiting for her to pass. We had, had two other Pastors pray over her and she had stirred a little. But after he prayed - she immediately came to ! Saw our children satnding there beside her bed and she reached out her hands, touched them and said these words - I love you - it was the last time my children heard these words from their mother - what a wonderful gift from God that they were able to hear that before she went home ! I am forever in his debt for his faithfulness.

V8 - Welcome to the club.

Tmarsh - drywall finishing is like painting with metal knives. For me the worst part is the sanding ! Here try some southern tea,Dinner It is made with black tea, lots of sugar and a splash of lemon !

Garry, Bob, Angel, Galaxy, Henry, Howmus

.....Hello guys hope your weekend was great.

OH PS almost forgot - I found Pelle Sourburg ( sp? ) on facebook and I sent a friend request to him and - he accepted - so I thought well isnt that amazing. So I thought I will send him a message and guess what ? He responded back welcoming me to his page ! I am impressed with his responding so kindly and so promptly. He has a made a new friend !

Good Afternoon!

February says good bye to us with a nice and sunny day, but still fairly cold. I like it that way - the air is crisp and clear, much better than the wet & windy weather we usually have at the end of February.

Hard to believe that this month is almost gone!

I did only a few small things on the layout, like ballasting the little path along the tracks and planting some more trees. Not to forget finishing the river in the upper right corner of the layout, so both water features are now completed!

The trees do make a big difference to the looks of the layout, although they are the el-cheapo bottle brush kind. There are much nicer trees available, but I don´t have the kind of $$$ necessary to buy them. It´s a layout on a bufget - and a tight one!

I am also not happy with the blueish color of those trees, but that I will change!

No trains will be run until everything is nice and dry and the excess stuff has been vacuumed off!

John - keeping our fingers crossed for a succesful opp and a speedy recovery!

Coffee and a lamington please.

Well the pre op is done the vampyres fed, a train to get around the hospital would have been handy, my feet where killing me after all that walking around.

Well what a surprise when the surgery is done on the 8th of March I will only be in over night for what sounded like a particulary serious and grusome opp but then they know what they are doing and I have the top man in the state doing the knife work.

I think I prefered my tame version of what's happening to the full bloody version of whats to be done.

I expect I will have to hang around the big smoke for a week after the opp before they let me go home.

So hopefully back to propper modelling soon.

Have been haunting youtube a lot watching rail videos and was surprised when on one.

Some one said token working was dangerous errConfused how no token or staff for the section and you are not going any where how is a system that only allows one train in a section at any time dangerous.

Me thinks maybe not a railway person and definatly knows nothing about train operating systems confusing the lack of signals with dangerous practices really.

Any way back to the big smoke again at the end of the week.

Regards John

Good evening.  Haven't been on the site this week with the fast trip to Little Rock to pick up Adele, our new rescue airedale.  She seems to be adjusting to her new home nicely.  Took her for a long walk in the town park today.  She is a little leary of bicycles but did well with people walking by.  Nice weather here today with temperature around 70 F, not bad for February.

Uhlrich, the Russian logging train looked more like a water park amusement ride.  They certainly did not go in for any type of permance on ties or rail installation.

Found out that a good sharp wood chisel does a nice job of cutting glued down Homosote road bed.  I finally got back to work on the missed up lead into the planned four track yard I am planning on laying.

It is almost time for the dinner to move on.

Time for some zzz's

Jim

Hello all

Shaping up to be another quiet night.

Ulrich - Nice video! I used to live in a small town in Germany in the 70's. Had an opening skylight in my room and I remember hearing the church bells on Sunday.

Now I've heard that logging railroads use temporary track, but that was bordering on the ridiculous. At least they had a stereo in the cab!:)

der5997 - that's a good idea for the trolleys. These are of Japanese design so I'm not sure they will fit in, but that's the fun of a model rr. You can do it your way.
