Mornin' Everyone!

Zoe, Bring me a pot of fresh brewed Marrakesh Express Organic, Fair Traded, Dark Roast coffee, my R&GV RR Mug, and a dozen of the Sour Cream Glazed Donuts!!!  What?  To heck with the sugar!  Besides Virtual Sugar doesn't raise my Blood Sugar a bit!

Darn, I just got 9 more emails in the inbox to deal with....  Probably 7 of them I will just delete...   I've already spent two hours online chasing down info for the NMRA and for the MLK.  Sigh  I do finally have all the correct names of the winners of the Art and Poetry Contest.  Now I can finish up the certificates and take them and the rest of the prize money to the schools for them to get the signed Permission to Use form for us.  I can also release the final copy to the schools and the local paper for publication (after I do that there will be 3 more corrections to the list most likely....).  have also been answering a bunch of emails from NJRA Members on when I can get them to sign the petition.

Galaxy, that is why I will never, ever do business with a bank!  I only do my business with my Credit Union!  They never sell mortgages!  I favor people who want to make a law to not let banks sell mortgages!!!  (Won't say anything more...  Politics you know!)  Most major Corporations now figure they have you by the....  ah...  you fill in the blank, so you have to kowtow to them.  You are simply a way to make $$$$ for the (can't say that either!) shall we say those who allready have way too much of our $$$.

Luckily we are not suposed to get anything from the Nor'Easter roaring up the east coast.  My sister however leaves for another of her trips to the "Very Far on Sunday.  She flies from Rochester (which shouild be fine) to JFK in Newark which is NOT supposed to be fine!  "It's a Lovely Day Today....  And whatever you've got to do......?

Quote for the day: "In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life.  It goes on!" - Robert Frost

OK....  Almost noon.  Guess it's time I got dressed for the day.  I did take time for some coffee and a bowl of cereal earlier...  Much earlier!

Later!

Good Afternoon (well, almost evening)!

I am back home, but I feel exhausted from the trip. It´s been an icy cold day here wth temperatures down to -10°C. Add to that the wind chill factor, as it was blowing quite heftily.

I am not reporting back to duty today. There is a lot of reading for me to do to catch up on what´s been going on lately. Allow me a day or two to recover before I´ll be a regualr again.

CU soon!

Good morning ...

We're part of the big winter storm, and there is pkenty of wet snow outside. A great day to be inside with model trains.

YGW ... I hope Kelly is improving. We all care. ... I think it was exceptionally good of Richard to provide the contact information for donations, and I don't understand Galaxy's long post several days ago which apparently hurt Richard's feelings. I hope Galaxy gets over his illness soon, and I cetainly care about him. However, the issue is not resolved yet. It is in no way your fault, YGW. As long as that is not resolved by Galaxy, I don't think the Diner is as fun as it could be.

Yes, that's standard procedure for the first storm of the year in New England, too, but after last year it seems prudent.  I've stocked up on beer, and thanks to the design of our home the garage makes a perfect beer fridge all winter, staying in that nice 33-40 degree range.

We may get a dusting from The Big One, or maybe nothing, or maybe I'll wake up Sunday morning to 8 inches of partly cloudy to shovel off my walks.  Right now the temperature is in the 20s under perfectly clear blue skies.

Greetings from the heart of snow wimp country.  What schools systems aren't closed now, will close at noon for the snow that won't start until 5 pm.  State and county robo calls warning me of the weather have displaced Bridget from Credit Card Services as the most frequent nuisance call.  The TV stations have not gone to 24 hour coverage yet.

Grocery store shelves of bread, meat and toilet paper are empty.  That reminds me, so is my bottle of bourbon.  Got to go fight the crowds of panic at the liquor store.

Good Morning.

Gonna be a mix of sun and cloud today. High of 28F forecast.

Get to do some basic food stuff buying and visit the gang at our local diner today, then home and work on the layout. Still with the scratchy throat...I do think it is the dry air in here...le sigh.

Make it a great day!!!

Hey guys

I now fully understand KEN'S frustrarions wiht the mortgage companies. I spent most of yesterday after jt. therapy arguing with the two over mine!

CoA: the originatior, first payment due Jan 1s, {after closign the day before TG}. Sent out an EXTRA $1241 ABOVE the mrotgage payment for principle only payment on Dec 21. Dec 22 dated letter comes telling me they SOLD the mortgage to CoB. CoA gets the payment on Dec 27, and assures me they will forward it on to CoB. SUre they will.

FAst forward to yesterday, NO PAYMENT COUPON YET received form CoB...I call where is IT? ITs due to them by FEB 1st! We also want to sned an additional $7k to them to reduce/eliminate PMI as we only put the 10% down to assure we had money on hand too. COb DOENST HAVEour mortgage "in their system yet"???? SO the website they send me rejects my mortgage # and SS # { I DON'T liek putting thta in hte puter anyway}. CAUSE its NOT IN THEIR SYSTEM YET..it is Jan 21, the 1ST is closing in, nad htey don't recognize my mortgage yet???

COA says they also forwarded the $1241 to the cob on the 11th? the 11th? REALLY? THEY got it nad it cleared before the 1st of Jan???

COb DOENST have the extra $1241 either in 10 days id not get to them?...so coA says they will trace it.

Cob supervisor calls and says fri she will make sure it gets "in hte system" so I can access it. She will personally call me to help. SUre.

oh, nad the mortgage was for $61,200, but cob says I owe $61,109? I SENT TEH extra $1241 PLUS $287 of the original mortagage payment due Jan 1st WAS principle part of payment...NOT $90!!!!Interest was in addition to the $287 as the payment for principle, taxes, insrance and interest and PMI is a total of $567.73. SHOULD be reduce by aobut $300 with teh REGUALR apyment alone!!! SHOULD be sold at $59,920 abouts, NOT $61,109!!!

Meanwhile Cob say "you wont be assesed a late fee"..DUH I want it IN to them by the 1ast, BUT I am paYING DAIY INTEREST on the $61,109!!!! back to $61,200 already adn I have sent in $1809 already?????

COb Says don't sned any extr now....They wnat the interest money???? I can send later when "in their system"? Their home offices is in TN, and the payment center is in NJ?

Thats like hte electric company. I called ot turn off old service FEb 1st, "We can;t do it then, we can onthe 3rd" WHAT? We don't have a shut off appt until the 3rd.,whne its conventient for them. I took it, but then thought,,,,WAIT a MINUTE,,I AM THE CUSTOMER, I tell YOU when I wnat it turned off, NOT YOU TELL ME when IT's "convenient" for you!!!!!

GRRR...good thing I'm on steroids I am no match for any animal vegetabe or mineral who wants to cross me!!!

Oh,,,, and MR> Galaxy, you have a NICE day!!!

Der 5997 My self, I would have the Program Track off the layout.
I do have that separate Unitrack loop, and I’ve used that in the past. What’s your main reason for programming off layout?
What DCC system are you using anyway? If Digitrax I stronly recomond getting a PR-3 computer interface.
I have a NCE unit, but the decoders are a mix of whatever.  In the past I’ve never trusted my track-laying to support computer running of trains; but perhaps that wasn’t the point of your recommendation….
BTW, that blue War Bonnet – is that your creation, or did SF use that? Looks sharp.

Der- Flaws in design . Just one that I noticed, the interchange track by the city and the river. You could move the track through the city slightly or underneath it. Because that tail track is blocking the other tail track.
Thanks, this is helpful. I picked up on that tail track thing – it was the result of my moving the whole of the switching area there as a block of track in the program. I’ve now fixed it.
Will this track be the expansion in the future? Those are running flaws I saw if I ran three locomotives on it.
No future expansion envisioned. The interchange is just a means of introducing trains to the layout; and of course the wide range of yet to be obtained rolling stock comprising them! You “ran” three trains on that plan? That’s encouraging to me – looks like I can move on to the costing phase….
Here’s the revised plan
And the 3D view showing the industries.
Goodnight all – prayers for those still on sick call.Angel

I finally looked up the Classic Metal Works buses yesterday. I don't know why I took so long finding information about them. I could've bought them years ago in green and red for late 50s to mid 60s.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Lots of running today. Payed some bills and bought some food.

Made It To K-10 Trains. As some of you may have seen on the main page I could not get the shell off of the B&O Atlas GP-38 I bought from K-10. After finding out it was made in 2001 I wanted to lube the engine before I run it. Took Larry and Dave 15 minutes to get the darn shell off! So it was not just me. Smile, Wink & Grin

Looks like the GP-38 might be a keeper. It is pulling 19 coal cars with not much problem. It does slow down going up my small grade caused my the garage floor and not straight 2X4 frame work. (remember it started out as a HO slot car track and they did not care about grade)  It acts much like my Bachmann DCC on board engines in that respect. Might be able to teak the CV's after I figuer them out.

Der 5997 My self, I would have the Program Track off the layout. What DCC system are you using anyway? If Digitrax I stronly recomond getting a PR-3 computer interface. Yes

Galaxy Sure hope you feel better soon!

 Later Ken

Good Evening

Had a quiet day at home with Audrey and our new fellow...ooohh who is now up here schmoozing along purring away. We have a very happy cat here.

Got a few things placed on my layout to see how they will look when done here. Need more "for sale" signs I'ma guessin'

Got a nice scratchy throat tonight..too dry in here methinks. So I am doing a slow cooked version of Mattie's Doomsday Chili to knock whatever this is down...this chili is done with cubed beef instead of ground...and low salt as everything is done from scratch. See? Even my meals get scratcbuilt...Whistling Mischief

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, a Good hot cup of decaf would be really nice right now...

I turned on the computer this morning to find I had no new emails in the inbox.  I took that to be something wrong and it was.  Somebody had again got into my email account and set the messgaes to be forwarded to another email and deleted.  I changed it back and then clicked on my spam box at Roadrunner and 175 messages in there from EvilBay since late December to now!  Hmmmmmm....  Seems someone is using my eBay account to sell some healthfood drink and run up a bill......  I have spent most of the day trying to delete my eBay account, delete my PayPal account (Successful with that at least), and change all my information/passwords, etc. at Roadrunner for my email (successful there as well).  I am keeping a running log of everything I did and when with this.

Galaxy, glad you feel a bit better.  Still don't hesitate to go to the ER if you relapse!

Still waiting on a package that should be arriving soon...

Catch you all later!

Good late afternoon Diners. A green tea please, and a calming song on the Juke Box. Just returned from an appointment with a specialist with the news that the thing I thought would be attended to “in office” today will be done on April 21st!Bang Head
6660:
Der- I like the layout design.
– thanks, does that mean you don’t see major flaws in the way trains might be run?
Galaxy: Glad you’re feeling some better today. Do you guys have a specialist Diabetes Care clinic anywhere near. That’s a feature of health care for diabetics in Nova Scotia. The people at those clinics, while not Drs., are trained health professionals specializing in care for diabetics. I’ve had good success with the Nova Scotia ones. (The initial one when I was diagnosed was in another Province and not a good fit for me.) In any case, have you looked at the Glycemic Index for various foods. It’s worth talking over with your Dr., or other health care provider. You can find out more at the American Diabetes Association (just Google if you are not yet familiar.)
YGW:
DER - I think BO Cyl. Would be able to comment on the operation. I am not qualified to answer that question. If you don't get an answer here trying posting in the forum. BUT let me warn you. Have a thick skin. They are a TOUGH and sometimes mean bunch !
…Thanks, if I have to I’ll do that – and what you say re the General Forum is precisely why this place is such a relief!
Ah! I see by scrolling to the next post, BoC  has pretty much set my mind at ease!

BoC:

JohnDer: I don't see any snafu's here but the question I have is your DCC programming track...I think having it off one of the sidings might work better?
yes, maybe, or a section of a siding, so long as there is enough room to consist two or three locos, methinks.

As for business of the thing...just try some of the trackage that Owen Sound had back in the steamdays. The lines were so cramped in that the engineers would have to have to move people's 4 wheel jobbies to get in and around some of the back alleys.

Spaghetti! (that was last night’s dinner BTW) My busyness concern really was to leave room for roads and buildings. The Feb issue of MR has a club layout where a huge % seems to me to be track – and IMHO, looses something by that.

I’ve revamped the plan and landscape a bit, and now added an industry building which I will clone and play about with. It’s too close to dinner time here to attempt to post pics. Later.

Dennis:
I googled leg strengthening exercises for elderly, the elderly google added. And I’m now doing 3 exercises daily.
– I’ll have to take a boo, could be interesting….Thx.

BO Cyl. Heck that is a heat wave ! Paradise hope you have sun block ! Surprise

Garry yea Richard was a bit upset. I hope he comes back soon.

Ken - well lets just pray there isn't any estate sale any time soon ! With this Jerry guy you may want to invest is some armour plating for you back to deflect the knife that is poised there !

Henry - Obommba care is a sore subject with me. Cause if that jerk my deductible went from $2500 a year to 10k a year plus our cost went up !

Angel - No you were not the source. You're okay. V8 if I remember correctly we have a yearly license fee $40, county sticker fee $25, smog inspection $ ? 75 ? In some counties, then the tax on what they asses it at. I think some folks are paying several dollars a month on taxes. Some.may be as high as $500 a month ! That's just NUTS !

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

The Deal With The Devil Is Done. I have a new 30 year Sigh Home Loan with BoS. With all most being 60 not much of a chances I will ever own this house. But, it saves me $1200.00 a year.

yougottawanta
what is it about Jerry that drives you nuts ?

You mean beside the fact he is there? Whistling One of the things I will get in his Caboose about is moving things I need and use at work. Right now it is cheat sheets I need sometimes. He is all so moving sighs, some stock (small problem) and not getting the tickets right. That causes me problems because I have to safe guard wrong iteams being delivred or stock not matching.

Biggest Problem I no longer trust him!

1 Had a customer come in and ask for me on my day off. It should have been a split ticket! He did not put my name on the ticket with himself. Reason I know is she came in to pick up some pillows (he messed up the SKU #) and I knew her on sight. Beth is in a USAF and we talked for a few hours, she was in a couple of times and bought from me before. When I asked Jerry about if she asked for me by name (other guy does not count) he said yes. He stated he "Asked her if she wanted to write my name on the ticket?" That is not a option!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 He is Nancy New Pet! That is never a good thing with them calling each other.

yougottawanta
The Y6b is beautiful are you still considering selling it ?

It was the PCM Big Boy I was thinking about selling, not the PCM Y6b. For that engine you will need to come to my estate sale!

 See you all later

Your blood sugar is poorly controled.  Whether that is diabetes or an effect of your drugs and disease process, I cannot say.

You feel like you are breathing poorly.  I have only been here a short time, but you don't sound like someone who is feigning shortness of breath to get attention.  You are cold and clammy, you probably have a fever, best check.  It sounds like they shouldn't have sent you home and Friday is a looonnng way away.

I would go to the ER, tonight.

Even before the world heard of Obamacare, medicine was changing.  Decisions once made by your doctor are now made by Hospitalists who couldn't make it in private practice or NP's with far less training and frequently from the third world.

I don;t know guys, its like i have hit a brick wall today...i mean smacked it HARD.

I can barely breathe, nad I move lie a snail, literally. My sugar was 342 todya and I only ate once.have no appetite now again.

I NEEDED to get my hair fcut and beard trimmed at $10 cut day but MOH had to drive me as I was in no condition to drive.

I am backt o sweating like a stuck pig to, cold and clammy, yet hot nd bothered.

I MAY yet wind up back in the ER.

I finaly see my GP on FRiday morning at 8 am, cant wait if I don;t agree to go to the ER again. I am tired of NPs who think they know more thna I about whether I am able to breathe!

The meds end tonight and tomorrow so they offer no more hope.

Afternoon Diners,

Der- I like the layout design.

Howmus/YGW - I hope I didn't start the whole MLK day discussion. Or did I?

My mom left today at 6 to Los Angeles to a quilt conversation for the week.

Train News: I bought a Walthers greenville 2 bay hopper in Southern Pacific paint. I only need three, and one more to go. I still need to buy the gravel loads for them.

Our vehicle registration renewal is expensive compared to some states I know of plus smog check adds to the cost and if that fails it really gets expensive.

Our registration fee is the same.  I think it's $50 per car, and it's good for 2 years.  Then, there's a $35 inspection fee every year, and another excise tax based on the book value of the car.  The "new" car is still a couple of hundred dollars a year, but the old ones are in the range of $20.  I suppose if you can afford a monster truck or an Escalade, you can afford to pay the better part of a thousand dollars a year for the taxes.

Our auto excise taxes go directly to the town.  I don't mind that.  Our town spends its money well, primarily on maintaining an excellent school system, which not only gave our daughter a good start in life but also keeps my property values up.

Ooops, I'm still here.  We were supposed to be going up north skiing, but the wife came down with an ailment so we've cancelled for this week.  I'm not too upset.  It's very cold, and right now it's pretty windy and most of the upper-mountain lifts are on "wind hold" so the territory is limited.

Besides, there are two or three bands I want to go see (and hear) at the local watering holes.  Live music, no cover charge and a good selection of draft beer?  What's not to like?

I might even get some modeling done this week.  It's time to finish up the foundations on those City Classics "company houses," and then get the shades and curtains in the windows and the lighting inside the buildings.

Good morning Diners! A small dark roast please and a Tim Hortons Dutchie (Pity they gave up on these across the franchise, it used to be one of their signature doughnuts)
Ken:
Der 5997 I am afraid there is no fast track, well not as long as I do the dishes!
I was thinking wait times for the new knee. Dishes are more or less “background noise” compared to that. LOL
YGW:
Sorry to cause you so much work ! Will your svc area have a wash station for clean up on the passenger cars ? Will there be any coal facilities ? RIP track ? Caboose track ? hump yard ?
Clean up on the passenger cars? – what part of rain do your RR investors not understand? LOL
Coal facilities?  I think with the present economy, particularly the $US - $Cdn ratio, I’ll stick to the locos I have, which are early-ish diesel.
RIP track?    Probably not as yet. I think the plan is already getting busy. I shall need a DCC programming track – and perhaps the longest spur off the turntable would do for that.
In the alternative, I still have my quite separate loop of Kato Unitrack which is a test track and I can program on that.
Caboose track? – See first observation on RIP track. But this is perhaps a bit more of a practical consideration from an operations point of view isn’t it? I’ll have to think about it. Where would you see one as being best located. BTW, I think I may well do away with the valley at the bottom of the left hand side of the "L', if that helps free up space.
Hump Yard? No space, they aren't small are they?  I think classification will have to be done “off layout” and trains introduced on the interchange from the left hand side of the vertical leg of the “L”.
I’m not up on prototypical operations, no background and not a huge desire for yet another learning curve. So, I’d really appreciate advice as to whether the present design has any deadly operational faults or bottlenecks.
Ray:
Vinny was just paying a social visit to remind us to stay off certain topics which can be devisive.  I was trying to say the same thing and let YGW know that If I were to continue the conversation it would become something that "Vinny" would clean house for.  Hopefully YGW knows that I respect his right to hold different ideas than I do...  (We aren't really opposite in thought, BTW.  More like 90° away...)  This is just not a place where those things should be discussed....
That’s one of the great things about this Diner, we can hold quite different views, yet remain polite and respectful of each other.  Case in point, do you remember Ryan (Katrina refugee now in N. Carolina)? Were’ still in touch via Facebook. We couldn’t be further apart politically, but have the common bond of interest in mrr (and good eating, he’s an awesome chef if you recall) and generally sensible sustainable agriculture. So, we “rub along” despite the differences. I appreciate the friendships I have here; thanks guys.
