If this is the only Murphy that visits your life from now on you will be in good shape. Hopefully, he will keep the other one that visited you during the cat house incident away. Hope you are feeling better from that one.

If Mr. von Leopard is indeed in the legal profession, he can perhaps reveal to his companion which relative generated Murphy's Law.

I'd love to see a closeup of the  Monk on the Mountain.  What I can see of it looks very nice.

I completed the repair of the railroad stemming from my forgetfulness. In the end, it wasn't too bad, and as a bonus, I discovered that one of the rails was not correctly seated in the joiner. This would have caused me fits down the road.

Here is a picture of four of the five newly mounted turnouts, with control-rod cuts in place.

And a view of all of the track in place.

Another bonus weather day for me.  It's 50 degrees F, so I'm going out for a warmly-dressed bike ride in a little while.  I'm approaching the caboose end of this cough, but my exercise program has suffered the last couple of weeks, and this is going to feel very, very good.

If this were a cold or rainy day, I'd be going to the train show.  Instead, I'll be riding down an old railroad bed.  Maybe I'll get up early tomorrow, hit the second day of the show and still be back in time for another ride.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of Sourdough toast this morning.

Weather here in the Finger Lakes Region is exactly as Barry mentioned.  He is not too far, as the crow flies, to the north west of where I am.  The sun is supposed to make an appearance this afternoon they say.

I didn't get home from the Museum party until almost 11PM last night.  It was good to see the crew again.  Good bunch of guys (and gals)!

Barry, good to hear you are doing well!  How is the band doing?

I need to do some major cleaning aroiund the house and get the Christmas window lights out and see if they still work for this year.  Can't find replacements that I want.  They all are either battery operqated, or have automatic dusk to dawn sensors built in these days.  I would rather use the timers I have so they aren't on all night...

Catch you all later!

When I had two rumors taken out of back at the spine {benign}, the first one I was put out. No problems. Due to my asthma, the second time for the second one the second {different} anestetiologist was ABSOLUTELY PARANOID about somehting happening to me. SO they did it with just a local shot.

I could FEEL the surgeon CUTTING INTO ME!

I told the attending nurse standing by my head I could FEEL him CUTTING me. she said "shut up the Doctor is operating!"

Then after the cutting into me was pulling, yanking feeling as he yanked it out, then MORE CUTTING as he CUT IT AWAY.

I'll never forget that part.

I told thatt to the surgeon at follow-up and all he said was "well that wasn't nice".

GRRRRR.

I have had so many surgeries I can come through jsut FINE, I tell ya!

Sheesh.

Well, I painted hte MBR, the first coat of deep red "Merlot" color isn;t covering so back to Lowes for another can. I will be painitng at midnight as it has to be done and dry before 2 pm tomorrow when we have friends showing up to help move stuff. I/We forgot the cardinal rule of painting reds: paint a tinted primer FIRST, then paint the red, especially deep reds!!!

I am tired and sore, nad MOH's back is threatening to go out, and has to worj=k the grocery store tomorrow morning. I HOPE not, we will have 5 of us moving stuff, two of with known bad backs, and now a possible third. My trian nut frined's back is so bad he actually has implanted {inside his body} electrodes to help ease the pain. So wiht 3 of us down with bad backs, I Don't know!

Later, better get back over to the house, to the durn painitng again!

Off today for sawbone test at local hospital. Have developed a lump under the skin on my right chest. Going to get test run to figure out what it is and what is causing it. Very tender area.

 My prayers are with you,

Mine started out as a slight lump on my neck under my right ear. After much testing they finally figured out it was forth stage tongue and throat cancer even though I had no sensation of a problem in my mouth or throat.  But I sure have now, after 3 shots of Chemo and 33 radiation treatments. Now all my food and drink goes through a stomach tube.

Heres pulling for you............

I had the same experience back in the 70's, Whenever I would brush up against anything, I would feel it and touching it would feel a slight pain. I had it checked at the VA Hospital and they scheduled Me for a operation and found it to be a benign tumor, My right breast, just below the nipple.....I was lucky, it was not cancerous....Breast cancer, although rare..is possible in Males, I found out. Had the operation in 1977....twenty yrs. later...I had an operation for bladder cancer...which so far, I'm still clean.

Wishing You the best outcome of Yours....Hopefully Yours will be the same.....God Bless...

The real fun will be scrapping off the old caulk to set a relatively smooth surface before I put the turnouts back down.

Ah, another advantage of foam roadbed rather than cork.  Foam is much softer, so slight imperfections like bits of old caulk will be absorbed as the foam allows itself to be compressed.  You might consider replacing the cork with a foam roadbed piece if you can't get the undersides clean enough for a flat fit.

Mr B: I opted for surgery. ("If it ain't worth doin' right, it ain't worth doin' t'all.")

Lion and Johnboy: Unfortunately I have chosen the tine world of N-Scale, so the turnout bars are too narrow to drill through. I was able to just remove the turnouts and now I can do it right.

The real fun will be scrapping off the old caulk to set a relatively smooth surface before I put the turnouts back down. Every once in a while, the universe feels it is necessary to remind me I am far from perfect.

Mornin' everyone!

I've been busy out amongst the world already this morning....  Zoe, I could sure use a refill of my dark roast coffee, dear.

Visited the dentist first thing.  She put the crown that fell out last Monday back in place.  That was a freeby...  Then stopped at the natural food styore downtown to get more coffee and a couple other things.  they were out of Marrakesh Express!!! Stick out tongueAngrySigh  So I got my Seneca Lake Blend and another dark roast they have.  It'll do...  Then stopped at the Pharmacy to pick up a prescription, and finally filled the PiP with Fossillized Dinasaur Dung so I can go to the Museum Holiday Open House tonight.  I did get about 90mpg on the last tank...

Dark, gray, and gloomy outside today so far.  No precipitation though.  Currently 42°F and just about the high for today...

MisterBeasley, always nice to be needed!  Hope you had fun...

Lion ... That explains why I must enter a zip code when I pay at the pump in gas stations. .... I generally use cash for small purchases at grocery stores, etc. There is a lot to be said for using real money.

Correct. Gas pumps and subway ticket machines are ripe targets for someone with a purloined card. And all of the information is right there on it. BUT YOUR ZIP CODE is not there. But most terminals do not require a zip code.

Unfortunately, my excitement has turned to angst. In all of my excitement, I laid the roadbed and track, but forgot to drill the holes for the Tortoise motor control rods. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to retrofit the holes without pulling up all of the track. Sad bordering on Crying

Whistling
I do believe this is my first Tutorial...........
I as well had my doubts and was kicking myself for not looking after this ahead of time.  But there was just no problem, It worked slick.
This should not be a problem, I have done three of them that way.
Mine are bluepoints which is just like tortoise only manual (cable) operated.
I just used a small drill bit ( one that fits through the hole on the T.B.) drilled down through the throwbar to locate the center of the hole underneath the layout.   I then placed the blade of a putty knife under the throwbar but above the track bed.  Then I drilled up from the bottom with substancial pressure as the drill is not going to go throught the putty knife blade, but not enough pressure to dislodge the turnout, but enough to pretty well clean out the hole including layout surface and any and all roadbed material.  Sometimes you have to pick at a few loose pieces of foam from under the throw bar, doing this from above and between the ties to clear all remenants  of the roadbed cuttings, after you have removed the putty knife.
As long as there is access to the underside of that turnout you should not have a problem.
I can't remember the size of the small drill bit and don't have access as I would have if I was at home. But for the bigger hole from underneath I used 5/8" as I was going through a hollow core door and a double layer of roadbed, so I needed a little more cleareance because of the distance.  I also had to use a heavier wire, and again I can't tell you the size from at work here, but I got them in a package from Hobby Lobby. I then had to cut it to lenght.
Get-at-R..

All you have to pick up is the switch. Just cut the rail joiners with your motor tool, and lift the switch out. Drill the hole (in the RIGHT place) (LIONS like 3/8 to 1/2 inch holes).

Trim back the ties and install new railjoiners so that they slip all the way on. (Remember to remove the pieces from the rest of the tracks.) Drop the switch back into place, and slide the jiners so that they will do some good.

It is a fast and simple operation, wand you can complete it before the next train comes by.

Well, last night didn't turn out as planned.  I didn't much feel like cooking, so I picked up a chicken pot pie and put it in the oven, consuming a couple of cold ones while it cooked.

The phone call came at 8:30, like the Bat Signal flashing across a clear sky with a few conveniently-located clouds to reflect from.  Someone needed a goalie.

The trouble was, the game was in the next town at 8:40.  I packed up my gear and drove over, and then suited up in time to play for most of the hour and a half they have.  How often does a pick-up hockey player get cheers just for walking into the building?

The Tortoises don't have to mounted directly under the centerline.  You can offset them to either side and even extend the throwbar and connect them an inch or so away from the track.  Or, you can bend the top of the wire into a dogleg and slip it under the throwbar from one side.

Good morning everybody ..........

JohnBoy ...  Is your "concrete" actually plaster ?

Garry, I'll be trying a Woodland Scenes product called "Smooth It"

I watched a few videos where it is being used and I think it is worth a try.

If any one else has some hints or tips in this area, I am all ears before I get started. Blindfold

John Boy ... I have not used that material, but it should work well for you. ... I used plaster in my streets with streetcar tracks. After it was dry, I used the corner edge of a putty knife to make groves  to clear for wheel flanges. ... I added a very small amount of black acrylic paint to the wet plaster so it was a light gray color instead of white.

DSSP ... I suggest you post the photo of your excellent Como roundhouse in Weekend Phto Fun so others may enjoy seeing it.

Lion ... That explains why I must enter a zip code when I pay at the pump in gas stations. .... I generally use cash for small purchases at grocery stores, etc.  There is a lot to be said for using real money.

Uncle_Bob

Well, I got nailed again.  I must be related to Ray! Whistling   I checked my MC account before bed to make sure a payment was received, and saw a charge I didn't know about.  Turns out, some jackhole is running around Amman, Jordan, with my credit card number.  Luckily, only 1 of 5 charges went through, and that one is being removed, too, but this is insane!  This is like the 4th time I've had this happen in the last 12-18 months.  This time, it was on an almighty chip-equipped card that I don't use a lot.  Just very frustrating.

Now, to try to wind back down so I can sleep.  Later.

As a vendor, I can tell you that I do not need your card to put charges on it. I only need to know your card number, the expiration date, and your zip code, and I can enter that information on my terminal and it will show up as a telephone order. So the chip does not protect you from that.

What the chip will do is eliminate the need for someone in the store to touch your credit card. And even that is not really true, since you will hand your card to a waitress or some such, who will run it and bring it back to you.

Do you eat at any Jordanian restraunats? Pay cash in the restraunts, and sea if that helps.

Hey Frank, what do use for the windows on the building behind your tractor trailer? Nice work on everything in the scene, BTW. Dan

Dan,

Thanks for the cudo's...the glazing is just the clear styrene that came in the kit, all glued together with GS Hypo cement, including the plastic window frame. I like using it because it will stick to painted surfaces and is very strong, when cured. Just a few drops is all that is needed, unlike a solvent cement that will smear if not careful. This is fairly thick, clear cement, drys clear also. Jewelers use it for setting stones, in rings and jewelery. That building was made to have parts removable, side wall and complete roof and slide in doors. The frame You see on the wall is 3/16 and 5/16th white pine, that I cut on My various table saws and glued to the styrene wall using original contact cement. It is extremely strong. Interior lighting is strip SMD's, that also are removable, they just rest in the trusses. A couple of pic's when I was building it:

I would also like to Thank all the other Diner member's for their kind word's.Yes Yes

Well, itcertainly is strange living at the new house, even though it is not yet "moved into. MOH stays at the old house until we can get all moved, so no one breaks in or we have a pipe leak [bigger than the one we apparently have}.

It is strange now sleeping without MOH and the cat, Cud Cuds. {hsort for cuddles]
