Good Lunch hour Diners,
Flo, I'll have my usual extra large cup of coffee with boo coo cream, please.
YGW: Sorry to hear of your condition. I don't have anything to offer to you except that I'll keep you in my prayers.
That goes for everyone else in the same situation, and apparently there's several of you.
Galaxy: Have a great time on that rail fan excursion. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Gotta get back to work.
I hope everyone is OK and safe.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
YGW - I am more or less in the same situation as you are. I have to carefully watch what I am eating. When I learned I have to watch my food, it was hitting me hard, as I do enjoy a good meal a lot.
One of the most important issues is to stay away from all ready made stuff. There is more chemistry in that stuff than you want to know. Also a lot of things which are not declared properly. Buy fresh stuff and have it prepared fresh - you know what´s in it and it tastes a lot better, even if you have to go easy on the salt. Also stay away from anything marked "light" or "diet" and leave fast food completely out. HAmburgers are OK, when you buy ground beef and make them yourself. Beware beware of the buns, though - take whole grain rolls instead.
Basically, that´s all there is to a healthy diet. Of course, the amount you eat also has a certain influence
Hello all
Thanks for the words of encouragement. My wife took the news REAL HARD. Her first husband died of a heart attack while she was pregant with their daughter. I woke up Saturday morning to her tears falling on me while she leaned over and cried on me. I feel worse for her than me. She is scared.
Ulrich wrote "YGW - your wife should team up with mine" I am sure she would love the advice.
Ken - that J is BEAUTIFUL !!! Yea that is weird about teh salt.
Rob - that is IMPRESSIVE you caught us with a hand cart !? Here is some water for ya. Id give you soemthing better but Mrs. Food Nazi has taken it all away including my Diet Coke !!!!!
Gary - A little sugar now and then you say ? Hmmm I wonder where Mrs. Food Nazi hid it ?
Garry - Thanks. I guess I join a great club of men hey ?
Johnbot I didnt know you couldnt eat real food ! Will you ever be able to again ? Geez that really stinks !
Galaxy - What the heck is keeping your blood vessels from exploding at that rate !
Well at least now I know why I get tired sooner.
Gotta git back to w**k all.

Good morning ..
The trip back from Cincinnat was a very long one. The first 100 miles {0f 300 total) was delayed due to accidents and construction. At one point on the Interstate, we shifted into park and were standing still for over an hour. ... The second 100 miles was okay. .... The last 100 miles had thinder storms all of the way.
YGW .... You can now be like many people. You are a heart patient. Follow doctors orders, and you can have a close-to-normal life for many years.. Heart rhythm can be tricky.
Galaxy ... You have a memorable trip planned. Glad your are.
Cheers Everybody

Good morning coffee shop dwellers!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Vanilla Almond Granola cereal and a large urn of Seneca Lake Blend Dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug please and thank you.
Galaxy, congrats to all of you folks being able to get tickets for the trip behind the Berk! Hope you have have a awesome time. IIRC the tickets for the trips here in NYS started at $190. They are a bit longer I think but way out of what I have to spend right now as I would have to hire the pet sitter and make arrangents for my son to watch the kitties as well. That doesn't begin to cover the hotel and other travel expenses for me. There are a number of Museum members that are taking the trips here or doing some major railfanning following the train as she goes down the track. Beautiful beast she is!
I woke up with a light case of gout this morning.... Hoping it doesn't get worse. At the moment I can walk on the foot but do know it is there. Have a list of things I need to get done today. I need to spend a bit more money and get a couple frames for some pictures that I want to out up in the living room.... Oh well, it's only money they say. Then I need to start cleaning up the rest of the house. Been a couple months since I ran the vacuum in the dining room and now that most of the extra stuff in here has been moved back to the living room I can actually do more than just get the walking space. Got a bit of rain early this morning so I may be able to weed garden for a bit today also.
Catch everyone later!

Good Morning!
Another rather drab and gray day here. No sign of Summer. As it looks, the few really hot days we had at the beginning of the month were this year´s Summer
We won´t be visiting another line in Germans southwest today. We won´t be up north, nor south, east or west, but right in the middle of this country. We will vist the Mansfeld Mining Railway, or better - the remnants of it. This line was once a huge network of narrow gauge lines connecting a number of small copper mines. Total lenghth was close to 65 miles! Each day, over 50 passenger trains and the same number of freight trains ran over this network. The decline began in the early 1960´s and by the time the Berlin Wall came down, only a stretch of 8 miles was left.
Enjoy!
Evening Dinners
Flo, please
Off To The Meat Factory Thursday, well the VA Hospital that is. Have to have my foot looked at, get tested for T/B, get my glasses fixed (Ear broke off and I am using Shrink Tubing to hold it on and works well) and get my VA ID Card made s I get a 10% distcount on the lumber for the fence.
YGW Sorry to read about the carboard with out salt! One of the werid things about me and my life style is I have low Soadium leves and low triglycerides?

YGW-
Some time after my triple bypass and aortic aneurysm repair in 2004, I was told the same thing. (Picture the chest as a map of the midwest, and incision scars roughly mapping out I-35 from Duluth to Dallas.) I suspect it may be partially a reason for my slowing down and poo- wearing out sooner, but I much prefer to blame it on old age. My wife thankfully, sympathized with me, as she had been disabled since 1997 and understood my "slowing down thing". What that really meant, however, was to hire it done rather than wait for me to get to it.
Since she passed a couple months ago, I've come to sort of understand her reasoning, given the situation. My energy level is slowly coming back from very, very low to just under "lazy". The hope is to finally get going on my retirement layout before winter. Oh, by the way, cardboard isn't all that bad (see if you can sneak a little sugar on it)
MisterBeasley Bah. My computer went down again. It was the same symptom as before - running fine, I got one of those "restart your computer" messages after a virus-checker update, I did a controlled restart and ... nothing. I hauled out the 15-year-old Dell and checked the LAN, and I could see the shared drives on my primary machine, so it's booting and Windows is running, just no screen. The last time, I had to replace the graphics card. I was ready to send it back for repair, but I powered up today and it's working. I'm thinking it's just the heat. It's been brutal here the last couple of days.

Mr. B,
Did You ever clean out Your exhaust fan on Your PC?? where ever Your exhaust fan is mounted on Your PC, You should be able to feel the heat coming out of it and near-by should be access to remove a cover and clean it out.....You'll be amazed at what that will do for any PC, that performs eratically. The heat cannot escape and effects every Electronic part in there. What You may have experienced, is a automatic shutdown that will occur when interior heat passes it's Thermal limits and will shutdown to protect itself.
A lot of people, never clean the fan and wonder why it doesn't work right...slow, freezes, etc. the majority of PC problem's are directly related to heat.
I've cleaned My Acer laptop 7 times already, in the nine yrs I've had it and it still run's like brand new. The only thing I've replaced in it, I put in a larger memory chip and I never run off the batt. I always plug it in, when being used. You can use ISO Alcohol to clean the fan area, usually held in place with tiny philipps screws, all are different and it's no harder than working on a DCC Engine.
Take Care!
Frank

Hi YGW, I feel for you Buddy, But rest assured, I have proven that you can stay alive without eating.. It now has been 18 months since I have taken anything by mouth. So at least you have that going for you. I would love to eat even without salt or on a restricted diet.
Now you will notice I didn't say anything about missing the pleasure of eating, taste, texture and satisfaction, only that you can stay alive,, and that is what I am concentrating on.
Best of Luck to both you, Ulrich and Galaxy on the up coming exams & tests.
Prayers, positive thoughts & energies to all who stand in need.. And it is a real Blessing to have a loving Wife to help you through these trying times.

YGW: Congrats on the heart issues! I mean, consolations on the heart issues...
Like Ulrich, I have my own cardioloist, join the team YGW! He {or she- the PA} will not be happy with my current BP..@ a nice relaxing 195/89 currently!!! So,,, the BP med I take is NOT doing its job... and the erratic heartbeats fortuantely are under control with the other meds i take, for now...
DOn't take it so hard, DO what the DR Wife says..and you should be OK...
PS: Ulrich: sending you a PM>
yougottawantaDoc diagnosed me with AFIB. Went to a cardiolgist (sp?) and he confirmed saw bones diagnose.
Been there, done that. I have my appointment with my cardiologist coming up tomorrow morning. Good thing is I won´t have any PT, bad thing is he won´t be pleased with what he´ll find out. I have not been feeling all that well lately, I guess my old ticker is not pumping the way it should.
YGW - your wife should team up with mine. Petra also has to watch my diet, but she knows how to turn out a bunch of delicious things. Being easy on the salt is a good thing, you just have to know a little about those other few hundred spices to make things taste great.
Hey all
Well I have had some come up that requires a course correction. Last week i WAS feeling really bad. Wife suggested I go to see the saw bones which I did. Unfortunately what I thought was just some bad food or heart burn turned out to be something MUCH worse. Doc diagnosed me with AFIB. So my wife has turned into a food Nazi. Now I cannot have cardboard with salt ! Just plain cardboard
Went to a cardiolgist (sp?) and he confirmed saw bones diagnose. Now off to more specialist because they suspect other problems. Geez. Cannot believe it. This thing is going to take away my last guilty pleasure - food -
Will be pop'n in and out.
Ken - the PT wood is usually made from Southern yellow pine. Not only is it known for twisting unless installed quickly and nailed in place. Once it "cures" it becomes one of the hardest woods known to this henisphere. In fact you have to drill "piolt holes" in it to get a screw of nail through it.
Hello to everyone else = Garry, Galaxy, Lion, Howmus....
Well I guess with tHE cut down on means more money for RR !
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Morn..... Uh... Once again, Afternoon all!
I was about to get in here to the forum a couple hours ago when the doorbell flashed.. (I have one of the ones for deaf people. Both rings and flashes.) My son stopped by for a while. he had just bought a new tire for one of his boat trailers. the tread had seperated and fallen off when he moved the trailer last week. He is hoping to get the boat ready to put out in the front yard with a "for Sale" sign on it and figured it should have 2 good tires on it.
Been catching up on all the posts I have missed. Galaxy, thanks for the invite, but there is no way I will get to take a vacation this fall. Labor day weekend will be a couple of family get togethers. The "Tesla" fund is empty at this time, so I have no excess $$$ to spend, and I may have to spend $$$ I don't really have to go to Florida if my oldest sister takes a turn for the worse (stage 4 cancer). Hope you folks have a great time railfanning!
RideOnRoad, that is great that you are at the Special Olympics World Games! I believe there is a cheerleading team from the Finger Lakes competing out there as well.
Speaking of the Fionger Lakes.... It is currently 85°F and going up to 93°F later this afternoon. I was hoping to get all my errands done this morning, but my son ended that. Need to buy another lamp for the living room and stop at Staples to drop off some empty ink cartridges for recycling and buy a picture frame for a train photo I want to hang.
Best get moving, havent even had my morning shower yet.... Catch you all later!
We are in Los Angeles for the Special Olympics World Games. We are going to surprise my daughter whose unified cheer squad is cheering at the basketball games today. After that, we may go over to the track-and-field venue for a while. Both events are at USC.

oh, I don't think i said:
The packages DID Arrive, but had I not been "forcefull" with the UPS driver{s}. The "primary" driver was pig-headed telling me "just because it says "out for deivery" doesn't mean it's on the truck"...I siad the one package correctly had both addresses on it, the other probably only had the USPS addy on it. He insisted "NO, we don't have it." well, he had to eat crow when his trainee said, "oh, here it is..."
SInce he ate crow, he offered to carry the {big}second box inside for me. The other pacakge was small enough I could easily handle it with the cane in tow.. I would have gotten the big one inside, but would have had some trouble is all.
He, of couse, complained about how the trailer parks/roads/ lots/ mailing addys are screwed up here {like we don't know}, and how {the first package} had both addys on it at Least, so he could deliver it. I explained #2 package ALSO was computer-entered with BOth addys, but the computer will often dorp out what it considers a "contradiciting addy"...so it drops out the lot# and private road name.
Like i said, had I not been "forceful" he would have taken my package back to the office, and I'd be picking it up there this afternoon! They GET PAID to deliver to MY HOUSE, NOT for me to pick it up at their office!!!

HEALTH, HAPPINESS, PROSPERITY FOR ALL!
Hope you have the BEST DAY EVER!
Uncle_Bob They're running excursions from Buffalo to Corning and back both days this weekend. Barring unforeseen problems, the plan is to head out to Corning, take pics, stop and see Dad, and come home. I'd love to get it on the Portageville viaduct, but pretty sure the road is closed, plus I'm not pulling out at 5 AM to have a chance of being in position in time. The excursion from Scranton on Sept 12 & 13 at least gives me a chance of getting pics of Galaxy crossing the Tunkhannock Viaduct! Does anyone know where they're turning the train in Corning? There are two wyes, one in Gang Mills and one in Corning where the line to Watkins joins the Southern Tier, but I'm not sure which one they'll use. Also, does NS plan to keep the Berk in Buffalo for the next month, or is it heading home again before going to Scranton?

No, we are taking the excursion the 5th to the Delaware Water Gap...we HOPE, IF MOH can get the day off from work.
We ALREADY went to the Tunkhannock Viaduct years ago on an excursion, they won't let you off the train, though, to "explore the viaduct", but it IS rather "crumbly concrete-ish".
