Hello all
Thanks for the words of encouragement. My wife took the news REAL HARD. Her first husband died of a heart attack while she was pregant with their daughter. I woke up Saturday morning to her tears falling on me while she leaned over and cried on me. I feel worse for her than me. She is scared.
Ulrich wrote "YGW - your wife should team up with mine" I am sure she would love the advice.
Ken - that J is BEAUTIFUL !!! Yea that is weird about teh salt.
Rob - that is IMPRESSIVE you caught us with a hand cart !? Here is some water for ya. Id give you soemthing better but Mrs. Food Nazi has taken it all away including my Diet Coke !!!!!
Gary - A little sugar now and then you say ? Hmmm I wonder where Mrs. Food Nazi hid it ?
Garry - Thanks. I guess I join a great club of men hey ?
Johnbot I didnt know you couldnt eat real food ! Will you ever be able to again ? Geez that really stinks !
Galaxy - What the heck is keeping your blood vessels from exploding at that rate !
Well at least now I know why I get tired sooner.
Gotta git back to w**k all.

YGW - I am more or less in the same situation as you are. I have to carefully watch what I am eating. When I learned I have to watch my food, it was hitting me hard, as I do enjoy a good meal a lot.
One of the most important issues is to stay away from all ready made stuff. There is more chemistry in that stuff than you want to know. Also a lot of things which are not declared properly. Buy fresh stuff and have it prepared fresh - you know what´s in it and it tastes a lot better, even if you have to go easy on the salt. Also stay away from anything marked "light" or "diet" and leave fast food completely out. HAmburgers are OK, when you buy ground beef and make them yourself. Beware beware of the buns, though - take whole grain rolls instead.
Basically, that´s all there is to a healthy diet. Of course, the amount you eat also has a certain influence
Good Lunch hour Diners,
Flo, I'll have my usual extra large cup of coffee with boo coo cream, please.
YGW: Sorry to hear of your condition. I don't have anything to offer to you except that I'll keep you in my prayers.
That goes for everyone else in the same situation, and apparently there's several of you.
Galaxy: Have a great time on that rail fan excursion. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Gotta get back to work.
I hope everyone is OK and safe.
Jim (with a nod to Mies Van Der Rohe)
YGW: right now a little better @ 173/89 pulse 86/min.. I see the cardiologist in a couple of months...he {or his PA} will decide what to do. Good luck ot you...
ALL: yes we were hoping for a get-away and the train trip, being a local day trip, instead of the over-nighter we were hoping for, it works out OK. We can GO, though it won't be overnighter {Scraton is aobut 1.25 hours away, maybe 1.5 with constructionies}.... I have the tix all printed and everything...can't wait!!! Have to wait.
well, nothing new here, just H-O-T and the Ac is running well. Not relly tht bad if it wasn't humid. Speaking of hot, Ice cream sandwhichs and Lactaid are calling my name....

LION, then in your neck of the woods will be. Mom and Dad live in East Stroudsburg, and we will be traveling to northern Upstate NY bor my brother's wedding. About a 6 hour drive notcounting construction and pit stops. When your parents are 92, you must plan for pit stops.
I'll plan some trips into the city too.

There is a travel center with facilities at the NY/PA border on both sides of 81N/S. there WILL be construction on the way...I assume you are heading to the north country at least that route so far...
best of luck to you for a safe trip Bro Elias...
and in the 50's you plan for break stops too...
Just dropping by to say "Good Night" to all of you. I haven´t been feeling well all day long. Doc says heart is OK, but I am burned out from having to much to bear over the last years. I know I need a break, but there is no chance for one.
CU all tomorrow!
I finally looked at the Atlas catalog and went straight to the N Scale pages.
I found some things coming out next year. Some freight cars and trailers that will fit into the Conrail layout of 1987. Their also making 8-40CW CSX/NS patched out Conrail diesels.
I'm not going to preorder anymore items it's tiring me out, getting me worried and everything.
I couldn't find information on the Southern Pacific Speed Lettering 4 bay covered hopper.
Does anyone know if the SD60M diesels that Atlas makes has ditch lights?

Oh, Bro Elias:
Assuming you are going N on 81, there is MAJOR construction at the I-81, I-88,and NYST RT 17-soon to be I-86- intersection in Bingo-town {Binghamton}. READ the signs and road carefully{they have painted directions on the road too}!!! The construction on our so-called "kamikaze curve" is one of the few last steps to make ST RT 17 into I-86. We have been to Stroudsburg once or twice.
Good lcuk on your trip!
Well, another hot day. Cooling air on the way, though.
We shall see what we shall see when we shall see it.
Good evening, diners. It is 66 degrees and the second rain storm of the day just ended. Didn't stop us from fishing as we had another fun day on the lake. For those in need of a low cal, high protein diet, see the picture below. Baked fish in aluminum foil on a wood fire, yum and healthy.
YGW, hope your cardiologist hits a home run and gets your situation under control right away. It certainly is scary having been through rapid pulse rate problems and hyoertension which seemed to both be under control with a hand full of pills every morning.
Jim
Thanks Ulrich - I had already made the switch to wheat (aka carboard ) bread a while ago. In fact when I married MOH (aka food Nazi) in august she made the change as soon as the ring went on. I call her a food Nazi but I understand her fears and I really do appreciate her attempts at keeping me healthy,
Jim - Unfortunately I am allergic to most fish products. It is so bad that in school I used to vomit all over the place when they cooked it.
Up 831 "just pray " ? That is the best thing you can do. Where is can I get the help of the "great physcian " the maker of the universe. I really do appreciate the prayers.
Thanks
Good Morning, Folks!
Today is July 31st and the Diner will be moved to a new location for the coming month. We will thus conclude our video tour through Germany with a homage to a loco which was once the pride of Deutsche Reichsbahn passenger service.
The Deutsche Reichsbahn needed powerful steam locomotives with a top speed of 150 km/h and the ability to haul trains of 500 tonnes at 120 km/h, as well as trains of 350 tonnes at 100 km/h up ramps with a 5 ‰ incline, for its network of fast D and FD trains. This was more than the existing Class 01 and 03 engines were able to cope with because their two-cylinder driving gear did not have sufficient reserves of power, the 01.10 had three cylinders. To reduce air resistance, the new vehicles were equipped with a streamlined body shell that reached down to 400 mm above the top of the rails, and to reduce frictional losses they were equipped with roller bearings on the drive and coupling rods.
Out of a perceived requirement for 400 locomotives, 204 were initially ordered in 1939 from all the major locomotive factories in Germany. However, as a result of the Second World War only 55 were eventually delivered, all of which came from Schwartzkopff.
In 1944 all the locomotives were moved to western Germany due to the course of the war.
After the Second World War the engines were in a pitiful state. Sections of streamlining were missing and the boilers, made of steel that was not particularly durable, showed the first signs of fatigue. On 20 June 1945 the entire class was retired. Because the machines needed to be operational, it was decided in 1953 to tender for a new, welded, high-performance boiler. In the process of reboilering the locos, they lost their cowling.
The class 01.10 was employed by Deutsche Bundesbahn until 1975, shortly before steam was abandoned at all. Today, 4 are preserved in in operating condition.
In 1996, 01 1102 received a complete overhaul and received a new streamliner shell, making her look like just having left the factory. She is out of service at the moment, again awaiting a major overhaul.
Enjoy!
GM, MEN!
Today is July 31, ALREADY! The summer is half over already!
SOon we will be complaining about the ol' north winds a-blowin'!
ah, well, we are complaining about the heat now then complain about the cold, nno pleasing us, rihgt?
Ahem,
Today's word:
Good Morning Diners,
Flo, I'll have my usual giant cup o' coffee with large amounts of cream, please.
Galaxy: why all of the Biblical words as of late? I'm not complaining, just curious.
YGW: happy to oblige.
James: the picture looked like an interesting outing. Hope it was a fun adventure.
Ulrich: many thanks for the tour of Germany. Tried to type that "auf Deutsch" but the auto correct kept giving me really stupid word combinations, so there you have it. It is a beautiful country. I've been to Frankfurt once back in 1969, and the one thing that really struck me from the air was the intense green everywhere. Another was that there were still bullet holes in the walls of many buildings. Some had been and were being repaired but still a lot left.
We'll all look forward to next month's Diner whoever and however it is hosted by.

If you visit Frankfurt today, you will find it has changed a lot since, but I am not sure wheter to the better or not.
Talking of Frankfurt, a rather sick, but funny joke comes to my mind. Here we go:
Airplanes landing at Frankfurt Airport are requested to leave the landing strip immediately, so pilots need to know their parking position before landing. One day, a British Airways flight landed and stopped at the end of the runway. Immediately, you could here a bellow from the tower:
Tower: BA flight - don´t you know your parking position?
BA flight: No, just a second, I´ll be looking it up!
Tower: BA flight - is this your first time in Frankfurt?
BA flight: No, not really! I remember, it was 1945, a different type of Boeing, just dropped off something!

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that both engines have failed, and we will be stuck here for some time. The good news is that you decided to take the train and not fly."
Good morning ....
Ulrich ... That's funny.
Lion ... That train and the scene looks realistic. LOL
I'm still working on the layout, but not much because of these trips I am taking. Tomorrow, I'm leaving for Alabama. We'll celebrate Mom's 96th birthday although actually it is 3 weeks early. This is the only Sunday we could get much of the family together.

Happy Friday.
Last night, I went to a bar which has live music. I met a woman, one of the musicians on the bill that night, who had offered to let me play a song. So, I did, just one. I'd brought my guitar and I even had one of those electronic tuning things to get the strings right. Well, I got polite applause and nobody threw food, so it couldn't have been too bad.
It's hot here. I'm going to have to turn on the AC again. It's staying sticky and humid all night, too. I'm ready for winter.

Lion - That is a real train ?
Ulrich - holy cow ! Didnt see that joke coming from you.
Funny story for you all:
Yesterday while standing in one of the upper floors of one of my units this young hispanic guys comes up and yells up " I am not an ANIMAL!!!"
Me - "What ???"
Hispanic worker repeats himself - I am not an animal !!!
Me again - " What !???"
Hispanic worker - I stand for my people and I am NOT AN ANIMAL!!!
Me - "What are you talking about !?
Hispanic worker - that toilet (porta potties) is DISGUSTING with 50 people using it and I AM NOT AN ANIMAL !
Me - "come up here"
Hispanic worker few minutes later - "I am not an animal and I stand for my people ( meaning that he thinks I am a racist ) and that toilet is disgusting with 50 men using it."
Me - I turn to a Spanish plumber named Santos standing next to me and ask him. "Santos this guy doesnt know me does he "
Santos - "No he doesnt !"
Me - to the Hispanic worker - "Buddy my wife is Cuban (he has a deer in the head light look about then ) and I continue I care about every worker here. You all are very improtant to me. Then I hand him a tract and tell him I will look into his complaint and address it. "
Hispanic worker - "My father is a minister and I stand for our people."
After the young man leaves I turn to Santos and say him "what the heck is wrong with that guy. Santos shrugs his shoulder and says " I think he is loco !"
Sometimes life can just be really strange.
Hope you all have a great day
yougottawantaUlrich - holy cow ! Didnt see that joke coming from you.
I may not be your typical German and I have spent way too much time in the UK not to have learned to love a certain sense of black humor.
Ulrich: MANY 'just stopped by to drop off something" in the 40s, fortunately for us, not so fortunately for your parents...or my MIL at the time. " times they are a changin''"...
Welll, a cooler day today today. About 78F.but still hot make no mistake.
RAY: Good luck with the gout! You know Bennie Franklin had gout, and since my mother had MS and was in a wheelchair, when they were in Philly, and visited the Independence Hall, my mother {rest her soul} asked, "Since BF had gout how did he get in, did he climb the stairs, or how did he get in?" hte guide, who let my mother in the "back door" which was assessible, told my mother "THIS used to be the front door, so You, ma'am, are entering the door BF would have entered"....SHe was thrilled, like star struck , apparnetly!
so, what is up wiht you guys?
MR. B...sent you a PM....
This is what Frankfurt looked like after the Boings left their droppings:
yougottawantaLion - That is a real train ?
Yup. I've been posing real ones this week.
Good Afternoon Diners,
Ulrich: thank you for sharing the pics of Frankfurt and no, I probably wouldn't recognize it today. Question. Are the 3 buildings at the focal point of the bombed out picture the same three at the lower foreground of the new improved picture. At least it looks that way to me.
Also, the joke was hilarious, but I kept thinking since this pilot was flying for BA, he would most likely be English, hence wouldn't he have visited in an Avro or Dehaviland rather than a Boeing? Just overthinking it!
Mr. B:
I sent 2 response to the PM we have.
YGW: I would have said: if you want clean porta-potties, then USE THEM CLEANLY! There OBVIOUSLY ARE Animals who use them if they are filthty,, unless tehy simply need to be emptied, in which case it must be addressed IMMEDIATELY by whomever is in charge...Men {AND women} are REAL PIGS in public restrooms...and porta potties. I don't know why....always wondered if they really use thier home comodes the same...
well, later,
Evenin' folks!
Janie, I could use a nice cup of decaf please....
OK, Galaxy, stop with the potty talk! And stop insulting pigs! Swine are actually very clean animals and the only reason they ever soil themselves is because of the terrible conditions filthy people put them into. We used to raise pigs on the farm and they were much cleaner given a chance than cattle were.... To paraphrase my FIL, "The more I deal with people, the better I like my cats!"
I have gotten quite a few things done today. Most of the items on the list got completed. I recieved the FedEx shipment of the track lighting system before lunch, then headed to Canandaigua to drop off a check to the bank that handles our 501c3 account for the MLK Scholarship fund, then went to Michaels to buy some new picture frames. Stopped on the way home to buy a couple ears of sweet corn for supper, then came home, plugged in the PiP and did more in the livining room. After the PiP was recharged I headed downtown to pick up the large painting and frame from the frame shop. That is now hung over the brick area where the wood stove used to be and the 100 gal. aquarium is now. Did a quick clean up out there and have some photos to share with you all. Getting to the end of the move! The first two photos are looking west from the east corners of the room:
Notice that Manét has made his claim and has taken over the room for his own space.... The last two photos are showing the other end (East) of the room. I will soon get back to some model railroading!
I still have to move the 20gal aquarium. That will end up in front of the window near the 100 gal. aquarium. Still have a few more pictures/photos to put up, and a pile of books to store in the bottom of the Amish Furniture.
Have a good one!

Will be in the corner booth resting awhile. Healing thoughts to those in need.
