Ray - I came across this product the other day, and immeadiately thought of you. I know it's too late for your era, but maybe you might want to see it anyway. Of all the trucking companies in this country, wonder how they picked this one. Now that I think about it, I wonder how many folks would even know where it's at.

"I am a huge American Civil War buff and Gettysburg is one of my favorite Civil War sites. I love taking small sections of the battlefield and really stuyding it and hiking it. Ten years of coming here and I never tire of it."

My late wifes distant relative General Garnett in Picketts division was killed on the battlefield at the head of the charge. It is reported that he took a yankee grapeshot through the mid section. He was very ill and had an injured leg and road a horse into battle vs marching with his troops it was sure to draw fire.  He knew he was going to get killed that day. I cannot imagine the courage to take that field that day. Just about everyone in Pickets Division knew they were walking into a slaughter. Some even pinned their names on their clothes. Picket never forgave Lee for that day.

Sir Madog
PT went quite well today, meaning I am not as exhausted as I used to be!

Hopefully that means you are getting stronger.

My gripe for the day. We use Quicken to manage all of our household finances. It choked to day and corrupted the data. Fortunately I have a back up. Unfortunately it is a month old. I get to print out all of our bank and credit card statements and re-enter all of the transaction. Hooray for technology!

One reason I still keep the OLD PAPER statements..for at least a year.

With jobs disappearing left and righ, I iure it helsp keep someone in  a job {postal worker, letter opener/credit marker, bank attendant} if I do the PAPER route.

MY father tried to install a new program on his laptop. He THOUGHT it had come up, so he inserted the cd, and it crashed his hard drive completely!

I guess that is why they came up with the cloud...so you don't risk everything on your computer, but everyone else will be able to access your cloud stuff too, I think!

Sigh

well, One person has taken me up my "political joke"....lol

I have read a lot about General Garnett (Longstreet and his Corps being among my favorite Civil War study subjects). Contrary to the assumption that he (Garnett) was burried in an unmarked mass Confederate grave after the battle and then "probably" removed and reburried in the Hollywood Cemetary in Richmond VA with the others of the mass grave it has been rumored that General Garnett was burried in a grave marked "Unknown" in the National Cemetary here in Gettysburg either by accident or by someone who recognized him from his pre-war days in the U.S. Army. I guess we will never know for certain but it is an intriguing story.

Happy modeling!

Don.

 Afternoon Dinners

 Flo, Beer please

First Day off after working 7 days. I slept in till 9:30 AM and it felt good! Putter around a little in the garage, got a new AVG down load then went inside and had a few egg's and played with Sparkie The Rocket Dog. Only thing I really did that need to be done was dump the trash.

Sue had been want us to do something togather which really means buy her things. So I took her to Home Depot, showed her the pre-made fence panels I will be buying, plus I wanted to see how they where made. Bought her some flowering plants and a few things I needed. Next we went to a nusery and bought some more flowers, then picked up my meds.

By this time the heat had us beat, so I did nothing outside. That was fine with me! Over all, I enjoyed the day off for a change.

 Later, Ken

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, a decaf would suit me fine at the moment....

Hey Garry!  Good to see you.

New couch and chair, complete with one very large cat who has decided he likes it already...  (Manét)

Tomorrow my son is coming over to help me move the 100 gal. aquarium back in there.  Then I am going over to his house to help him assemble my old wood rack so he can have a place (that isn't completely rotted) to stack his firewood for the winter.  Have to make one of my famous potato salads to take to the NMRA picnic on Saturday also.

I got 2/3rds of the lawn mowed today after supper (ran out of battery and steam at the same time...).  Need to finish that tomorrow as well.  My next door neighbor was taking his dog for a walk as I was starting the front yard.  We both have never seen the lawn this green in mid July before. We both prefer brown grass and a few weeds this time of year....  Water a lawn?  Fertilize a lawn?  Are you nuts!?!  That would take time away from the trains!  I water and fertilize the garden, but I want that to grow. Whistling

I'm hoping that by the end of next week I can have most everything finished in the living room and maybe even find some time to play with the trains....

Hope you all have a great night.  Stay safe and comfortable.  Prayers for all in need!

GM, MEN!

Friday, July 24, 2015!

It's another day for some, and a Friday, last day of the week, for many!

Today's word:

nocturnal

PRONUNCIATION:
(nok-TUHR-nuhl) http://wordsmith.org/words/nocturnal.mp3

MEANING:
adjective: Relating to, happening, or active at night.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin nocturnalis (of the night), from nox (night). Earliest documented use: 1485.

NOTES:
Pluto’s moon Nix is named after Nyx, the ancient Greek goddess personifying night. In Roman mythology she’s known as Nox. The Latin word for night, nox, also appears in such words as equinox (equal day and night) and noctambulation (sleepwalking).

USAGE:

“Getting around London late at night used to be expensive or time-consuming. Nocturnal groundlings can now get home more cheaply and reliably.
After Dark; The Economist (London, UK); Oct 4, 2014.

Today's Quote:

There are two kinds of truth: the truth that lights the way and the truth that warms the heart. The first of these is science, and the second is art. Neither is independent of the other or more important than the other. Without art, science would be as useless as a pair of high forceps in the hands of a plumber. Without science, art would become a crude mess of folklore and emotional quackery. The truth of art keeps science from becoming inhuman, and the truth of science keeps art from becoming ridiculous. -Raymond Thornton Chandler, writer (23 Jul 1888-1959)

Afternoon folks!

Thanks for the comments on the furniture...  Son and Gradndaughters were here late this morning to try them out....  Wii games occupied the Granddaughters while my son and I moved the 100 Gal. Aquarium into the living room and leveled it up.

Can't sit and talk right now as I'm supposed to be at my son's house around 1PM to help him assemble the firewood holder.

Later!

I had never heard that rumor. It is amazing there were three Garnetts of high Rank killed in the war of Northern agression Whistling I found it amazing that General Garnett was not at all in favor of of breaking up the states. But he like Lee could not fight against his country - Virginia - The great civil war Author Shelby Foote wrote the civil war made us into "We" Prior to the war we were a collective of independent states that joined together. After the war we were forced together by a Federal central Government.

Garry - That shot was amazing shooting it through the door like that it looks HUGE like a Giant that is strolling by.

Galaxy - I am a fan of Church Hill. Thanks for the qoutes

It took a couple of hours, but I was able to reconstruct our financial transactions for the past month, both personal and business. It was a little annoying, but much better than it could have been. I will work on making more timely backups--we will see how long that commitment lasts.

galaxy
One reason I still keep the OLD PAPER statements..for at least a year.

All of my statements are delivered and accessed electronically. To rebuild my transactions, all I needed to do was to sign on to a few websites and get both my previous month's statements as well as all of the activity since the previous month. We have had our mail stolen a couple of times over years. It is a well-organized activity that uses things such as bank statements to steal identities. Since then, we are very careful about what gets delivered into our mailbox.

Yesterday I had another piano lesson. To put things into perspective, I took lessons for years as a youth, including studying with a couple of concert pianists. The lessons were not cheap. In the mid-70's, my parents were paying $75 a month for my lessons. (According to the CPI Inflation Calculator, this would be $315 in today's money.) Well, as a teen, my interests laid elsewhere, so the ultimatum was given, "Practice more, or the lessons will cease. However, if you quit, we will not pay for lessons in the future." Easy choice, right? It was a choice I regretted within a year, but my parents held tough. (A great life lesson.) I have continued to play over the years. MOH also plays so a piano was one of the first large investments we made. However, my piano playing was for fun and was not a disciplined activity.

Fast forward to a couple months back. I went to a piano concert at ASU, Arizona State University that is, and one of the performers was a professor at the university. Her interpretation of the Philip Glass etudes was incredible. Long-story short, she teaches and now I am one of her students. I am pretty sure I am old enough to be the father of any of her other students, probably the grandfather of some. I am loving it, and am learning more than when I was younger, probably just because I listen now.

Bottom line, you can teach an old dog new tricks, and sometimes the old dog really enjoys learning something new.

All I need do, is walk the 8 steps to the filing cabinet, adn pull out the last onth's statement!

We ahave locked mailboxes, it pretty much guarnatees we get to keep our mail, on occasion, someone els's mail form the neighborhood gets in our box. but we deliver it!  and if our neighbor gets ours, it comes to us too.

I think it takes far more effort and daring to steal smail mail than to to sit at computer and hack your statements and info.

In other news, we MAY be house-hunting again! We may jsut ahve the down payment...again...OR the whole amount... we will see...

I have to look into a few things, and we have to try to determine how much we can get out of this one!

May not happen this year... though..ould be nice...

I am going to callthe RE agent on this liitle number we have benn looking at htough...see ya later..

and it comes with a house over the MRing space!

Tryingto get to see it tomorrow. It was started on the market at $64,9--, hten dropped to $54,9--, then off the market for awhile, then back on again at the current list price.

I think we could ask $10k for our 3br, 1 ba trailer and hope to ger $8k, expect as low as $5k..we'd keep that to do mainetenace on the new house..if we can get it paid for. then we'd have smooth sailing...

or we can get this land:

Good Afternoon Diners,

Its almost evening.

Flo, may I have an extra large cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.

Ulrich: don't think the videos that you post are unappreciated.  They are Appreciated.  The ones I've viewed are fascinating and informative, even if I forgot what was in them.

Big SmileBig Smile

Ray: your new living room looks nice, and it's cat approved.  What higher recommendation could there be?  What is opposite the couch?  TV? wasn't there a pass thru opposite the couch?  Maybe im mistaken.

Ride On: that's great that you're re-discovering piano.  And, it's even better when your interest is shared by YOH.  We'll be expecting to hear some Beethoven sonatas soon.  Big Smile

I kinda started taking my guitar out of the closet a few weeks ago.  Don't expect to do much with it except to have fun.  However, I've sort of discovered Celtic music.  I know,....but I actually started listening to it and realized, hey, I know a lot of those chords.  Get my fingers loose and my chops back up and I could play some of his stuff!  Hopefully!  It's been a lot of years And what I did 35-40 years ago may not apply today.

Galaxy: Hope house hunting goes well.  The land looks fascinating.  You could make a nice sized MRRing space and put living space over it.  I can see it now.  5000 sq ft basement and a 1000 sq ft house on top.

Big SmileBig SmileStick out tongueWhistling

I hope everyone is OK and safe.

Ray. your couch and chair look very comfy.  Good place for a nap.

Galaxy, hope you can work something out on the house hunting front.

Looking forward to seeing my BIL and nephew for a week of fishing next week.  Been eating really healthy this past week with fresh fish for dinner six nights in a row.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of decaf would be great!  Thank you Ma'am...

Whew!  been a busy day in these parts...  Son and the Granddaughters came over and helped me move thge 100 gal. aquarium into the living room.  That is right where the wood stove used to be with the brick behind and to the side of it.  Then I had lunch and headed over to son's house to help him put the wood rack back together.  Then we started to take apart his old doors to the cellar which are very old and rotted.  He has the wood to rebuild it but found out the old hardware is shot as well.

I came back home late afternoon and made oner of my famous potato salads for the picnic and layout tours tomorrow, had dinner, then finished mowing the lawn.  I am beat!  By tomorrow I will have several muscles letting me know I did too much lifting and carrying today.

up831
What is opposite the couch? TV? wasn't there a pass thru opposite the couch?

You are right that there is a doorway to the kitchen that is not shown in either of the photos I put up last night.  The dorway would on the right just beyond the location of the new chair but not in the photo (second photo).  Yes the TV is directly opposite the couch.  Here you can see the doorway and the bricked area where the 100 gal. aquarium is now:

I'll try to get in tomorrow evening but will be leaving fairly early tomorrow to get to the day's activities in the Rochester area.

Hope you all have a great night!
