I've been to Frankfurt once back in 1969, and the one thing that really struck me from the air was the intense green everywhere. Another was that there were still bullet holes in the walls of many buildings. Some had been and were being repaired but still a lot left.
If you visit Frankfurt today, you will find it has changed a lot since, but I am not sure wheter to the better or not.

Talking of Frankfurt, a rather sick, but funny joke comes to my mind. Here we go:

Airplanes landing at Frankfurt Airport are requested to leave the landing strip immediately, so pilots need to know their parking position before landing. One day, a British Airways flight landed and stopped at the end of the runway. Immediately, you could here a bellow from the tower:

Tower: BA flight - don´t you know your parking position?

BA flight: No, just a second, I´ll be looking it up!

Tower: BA flight - is this your first time in Frankfurt?

BA flight: No, not really! I remember, it was 1945, a different type of Boeing, just dropped off something!

[:-^]
