Evenin' everyone.... hello??? Anybody here? Slow day I guesss. Oh Hi Janie, at least the wait staff is here....
I just need a cup of decaf.
Had an interesting day with two parties this afternoon. The first was a graduation party for one of the Scouts in the Handicapped Troop. He is college bound. I hope he does well there. Great kid! The second was an Eagle ceremony for a Scout in a Troop in Canandaigua. the young man who recieved his Eagle has a younger Brother in the handicapped Troop here. The younger brother was riding his bike out in front of his house this morning and got hit by a motorcycle that was speeding. The kid was taken to Strong Hospital in Rochester with multiple injuries included a severly broken leg. He had just gotten out of surgery when the Eagle Ceremony bagan. Talkl about bad timing for events! The kid should recover but will be laid up for quite a while!
I finally got some photos this evening of the now almost finished living room. The main window:
Window from the kitchen into the living room (The living room is two steps down from the kitchen):
Door from the kitchen into the Living room. You can see the board that I will need to stain and finish:
And the brickwork where the old wood stove used to be. this will now be where the 100 gallon aquarium will sit:
And finally, a look down the North wall of the living room:
Have a great night! Prayers going out for Galaxy and all others who may need them!

Hi guys
was a great race today, kind of in the race mood so might play some f1 on the playstation later on tonight. Kind of bummed out though as its over for amother year. I always have the same people sitting around me and keep in touch with one of the girls who is a great photographer. She sends me the pics of the weekend. Was a good race though.
Evening Dinners
Flo, case of and I need them!
Work Front, well for now. Got a call from Marvi, the owner today and said he had a few things to talk to me about.
1 They are letting Dave go. He did not show up again today. I do feel bad about it, but it is time.
2 They are thinking about rehiring a guy they fired 8 years ago? Marv said "he is a pices of pop and likes to stir up trouble? He was hate by everyone he worked with? No wonder this company is domed.
3 Thanked me for getting the store in shape and for all my hard work.
4 He is listing my store for Sale. Far from being a surpise, I would try to sale it my self with as bad as the numbers have been!
5 Told me not to worry about my job, I am one of there better sales person and it is a Sales Drive Company!
Do I believe him about keeping my job? Yes and No. Owners and Mangers will lie to keep a person in a company that is under staffed. But, I do know I make more money than all but 1 sales person.
Real qustion is do I want to stay with this company? Other than mine, the closes store is 23 miles one way. Next is St Charles MO that is 34 miles oneway.

My daughter Annie and her boyfriend Rich competed in the season's first triathlon this morning. I "watched" online. She finished 9th in her age group, 91st overall, while Rich was 48th overall and was on the podium with a second-place finish in his age group. (Last year, as I recall, it was Rich grumbling about his own performance while Annie took her place on the podium.)
My Sunday triathlon will be coffee-bike ride-beer. I'm no longer competitive like that, so I don't time myself in any of the stages anymore. It's a beautiful day, though, and I will hopefully not be dodging any more trees.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Mornin',
Interesting day yesterday.... Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic granola cereal, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee to start the day. Thank you, Ma'am!
Spent most of the day out at the museum for our "preopening checking out everything for this years operations". We open next weekend. This year we are operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule, once a month on average. We tried a half hour round trip... We left Industry Yard on the half hour, went to midway, backed down the line and entered the upper yard. drop off passengers there, head back to Midway, then back down the line to the Industry Yard. All in half hour. If we had someone working as a switch tender at the top of the Hill Block it might have worked.... We were running about 5 minutes behind on the round trip. We did have a "Free" day for passengers, so we did have passenegers most runs. But, when we open and (hopefully) have much larger ridership, that is going to make the schedule worse. We are also selling cab rides this year, and we really need to have one more crew member to handle the boarding and getting off the locomotive.....
Got home just in time to head over to my son's house to go out to dinner at "Mac's Drive In" for Granddaughter #1s Birthday party... (Actually we will be having a more formal party for her in early July...) Wondered why my son was there as I thought he had to work yesterday. Turns out he got himself fired from his job. He finally lost his temper at the management. Seems he has had 3 days (12 hour shift) this week where he did not get his mandated breaks (NYS Law) because the relief person didn't show up for work and they didn't get anyone else (or a manager) to cover. He finally shut down his machine, went for a potty break and had supper. Manager came in and started yelling at him, so my son yelled back! Thursday he was called in for a "Meeting", was fired, and sent to HR to settle up his paycheck. The lady in HR actually took his side and will write him a recomendation to another local company that is hiring at the moment.... Luckily he has 3 weeks vacation time built up so he will have a month salary coming to him in the next check. He had been getting more and more upset with the working conditions at the company for some time now. He may end up better off working somewhere else. Unfortuately he is 48 years old. Not as easy to find work at that age.
Forget who it was, but, I am not putting in Oak Flooring. The oak is trim around the doorway from the kitchen, the window though from the kitchen, large outside picture window, and the brick firewall that was behind the wood stove. I'll get photos ASAP to show.
I have a graduation party and an Eagle Ceremony to attend this afternoon... They overlap and I will be trying to get from one to the other on time to see the Eagle Ceremony.
Better get myself moving. Have a lot to get done before I leave the house. Catch you all later!

Morning guys

"One difference between pessimists and optimists is that while pessimists are more often right, optimists have far more fun."
Frank, my lawn chair is a running joke at Tuesday Night Hockey. I always put it into the car with my equipment. As the goalie, I don't get to sit down during the game, so instead of standing outside with beers like everyone else, I prefer to sit outside. Years ago, 5 at least and probably closer to 10, I sat down and the chair ripped through, so I fell right through the chair. I laughed harder than anyone, and bought another chair. I've still got that one, and I never took the tag off, but it's a wreck. One of our players works for 3M, and he provides the highest quality duct tape to repair it when necessary. Sure, I could buy another chair, but the laughter we get from that one is priceless.
Hanging on Flo, (had to watch the Y6b go by) OK, Beer please.
Where's Dave? Yep, we are still playing that game at work. Martha (his wife) called 10 minutes after he should have been there and said he was real tired and ask do I need him? Told her I think I will be OK, store has not been that busy on the weekends. Said she would send him if I wanted him there! Hum, that seemed a tad odd, but what can I say. I said that was fine, let him stay home and rest. A day with out Dave is a day with Sunshine in his current state!
Called Kamron (GM was off today) and told him Dave was not going to be here today. He then told me what Dave was like yesterday. I had asked yesterday a couple of times, and all Kamron would say was fine because Dave was sitting right next to him. Today he told me "Dave was a complete mess! Could not do anything right and was driving me nuts!"
Foot Front Not sure about it right now. The callauis is getting soft and falling a part with me keeping it bandage all the time. There was no bleeding so I guess that is a good thing. The VA Foot Ulicer Nurse is going to be active duty for the next 3 weeks so I am going to try to get them to farm it out to a Civilian Clinic.
Mr B Glad that limb missed you!
Later Ken
Mr. B and Garry, after reading Your posts seeing what You both experienced, I have to tell this true story. My next door neighbor, that I've known for thirty-five yrs, He is a yr. older than Me. Anyway, we were both sitting on His front deck in Aluminum lawn chairs having a few cocktails and somehow or another We were talking about religious beliefs and such....well..in a loud voice He looked up at the sky and said twice...''show me a sign"...two second's,if that, His lawn chair collapsed and down He went. All we could do was look at one another....but still laugh about it today...We both quit drinking 4yrs ago...He had to...but I thought it was time for me too. LOL.
Glad You Both made it.
Take Care!
Frank
Mr. B .... That was a close call for sure. I'm certainly glad it missed you. ... You remind of an incident I had. A couple of years ago I walked up to the mailbox at the road. With no warning, I heard a loud crack overhead, and a loud thud next to me. In an instant a big tree limb like that one was on the ground about 3 or 4 feet away from me. There was no time at all to react. .... Whew !
a cool day turned into a sunny afternoon and I got a little burned. On track action was great and hope the race will be tomorrow. At the moment they are calling for heavy rain so we will see. I'm taking my rain slicker with me in case though
Widowmaker!
I was biking along near the end of my ride, less than a quarter mile from home, when I heard a loud crack above me. Instinctively, I ducked and hunched my shoulders. An 8-inch diameter tree limb landed 10 feet behind my bike.
Another guy came along, stopped and we moved it out of the road and then went on our way.
Good picture picture LION.
Garry- The only train club I know of is on the other side of town. Sometimes I do think of joining one. Is buying kits just like RTR when I get them?
Well my dad is leaving tomorrow on Sunday to visit Jackie and then be with his brother Lance in Wisconsin. I'll told some details tomorrow or Monday to see want happens.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
I put down grass seed two weeks ago. We had 3 days of real rain but very little since then. I've been keeping the bad spots wet with the lawn sprinkler. Something green is coming up, but I have no idea whether it will be the grass I planted or just weeds that are grateful for all the attention I've given them.
Ken, you've really got to be your own advocate with your doctors. They don't see you often enough or for a long enough time to get a good handle on what's going on. I have to pay attention to my own body, and I spend some time looking at the effects and side-effects of any new medications. A couple of times, I've totally changed what I was taking because the first meds he gave me did not agree with me. My doctor understands this, but I have to be the one to tell him.
We have a plumber here re-routing some pipes. Our kitchen sink frequently has a light freeze-up when it gets cold out. When they built the house, they ran the supply pipes right along the outside foundation wall on the north side of the house. I've tried more insulation and pipe heater tape, and I even hang light bulbs down there to keep the pipes warm, but it's never quite enough. So, we are going to do a new pipe run away from the wall to finally eliminate this problem.
Ken ... I'm glad you got the antibiotic and hope that infection clears up quickly.
Angelob6660 ... I have been through periods when I did not have a layout, and had a bunch of train models in boxes. It is frustrating. ... You might want to stay active running trains if there is a club layout close to you. Meanwhile, you could have fun assembling kits.
Ray ... Sounds like you now have a beautiful oak floor. ... The little error did not sound like a big problem.
V8 Dennis ... Sounds like the Dell tablet is working well for you already.
Happy Model Railroading, everybody !
just getting ready to head to the track for day two of three. Still going to be sunny and cloudy but a bit cool so will wear one of my race team sweaters. I hope tommorrows forecast of rain again is wrong. I will pop back in later tonight.
Hey diners,
Does anyone have these feelings about our hobby. That you been buying freight cars and locomotives, and just got tired doing it all the time?
I been connecting freight cars and diesels since 2006 (almost all 9 years). Lately I'm getting a little tired by not having a layout.
The layout might get started next year. It might be BNSF or Conrail because of my freight car collection.
Flo, please.
Rob and Ray Thank you for saying something about my foot ulcher.
VA Front I called my CBAC today and caught hold of Vicki the nurse that over looks my case. She was stunned that a Intern and her Attending Dr look at my foot and did nothing! She said "When a Diabetic with your history comes in with a foot wound, they need to do somthing"! Then she played phone tag with Andy from the Hanger Clinc and he told her what he saw Thursday.
Bottom line, she got me a Antibiotic called in and I am taking it now. One of the reason's I think Andy had no luck calling the VA for me was he was calling the Attending Dr that saw me Thursday before last that DID NOTHING! I sort of hope he has got his caboosee in a Jam, but yet I feel some what sorry at the same time?
Besides getting the need med, only other good news is the Y6B is still running great! I sure missed running it. Next, I will see if I can get the Big Boy back on the rails.
Latter, Ken
Good evening, a glass of ice tea and a dish of chocolate ice cream, please. After posting earlier this afternoon I did head for the basement to stay cool and finish the no. 4 turnout at the top of the turning wye. The whole wye is now finished and its time to layout and lay some more track. This evening I primed some more Homosote road bed.
We did receive a little rain this afternoon but nothing like Geneva Lakes. Just enough for the new grass seed which has already germinated after the finish of my gutter drain project just a week ago. I guess the grass came up about four days after seeding. Hot weather and a little moisture seems to be the ticket for getting grass started.
Pleasand dreams to all.
Jim
Evenin' folks!
Janie, I'd like a refil for my decaf, please...
Been a very interesting day around here in the Finger Lakes Region. I got outside well before lunch to start to mow the lawn. Got about 2/3rd.s of it mowed before the heat started to wear me out (and I needed to use the little room at the end of the hall in side...). So I put the mower away and plugged it in to get some charge on the battery. Checked on a couple items I needed to do inside and then had lunch. Just finished lunch and the contractor arrived.... He got to w*rk and I headed downtown to do some banking at the Credit Union. Wanted to get that done before the predicted thunderboomers showed before 3PM. At 3PM we got a few sprinkles and that was about it. I did get the whole lawn finished before we got any rain.
The contractor has about finished the project. Has only a couple minor things to finish, clean everything up and get all his saws and other tools packed in his truck. He did make one error cutting the (Expensive...) oak! He made a cut on the wrong side of the board.... He called me over and had an oh **** look on his face. Luckily the board did fit perfectly but the unfinished side was out. I looked at it, Laughed, and told him I wished I had a $ for every time I have done that. Told him to put it in place and I will stain and finish it there. No big deal...
He was just finishing up all the trim when I saw at the Weather Channel online that there were 5 (yes five!) active warnings for very strong and dangerous thunderstorms to roll through the Finger Lakes Region (along with several tornado watches for the same areas...)! There was one listed for Ontario County but it didn't include Geneva where I live. I headed to the living room to see if the contractor was aware of it (He has several jobs going at the same time...). He hadn't gotten a warning on his phone, but said it was starting to lightly rain outside. He pointed out the window and right as we looked it hit. Torrential rain and strong winds. The rain continued for about 45 minutes and dumped big time on us. It was pouring a sheet of water off the roof (literally an unbroken sheet of water all the way to the ground), the usually dry for the season ditch out back had about 5" or so deep running off going out the road which was completely covered in water running to the drain at the corner (usually it is just a stream of water by the side of the street...). I have lived in this house over 30 years and have never seen that much water come out of the sky that fast... I would guess that we got somewhere between 1.5 and 2" in about 45 minutes...
I'm going to go out and install more of the oak elecric outlet covers out there... catch you all later!
back from the track, just having some pizza for dinner. The rain settled onto the track around 2:45 and nobody was running so we came home. Traffic was brutal out of toronto but it always is on the weekdays. Leaving tomorrow around 8:30 again
Mr. Beasley, I'm with you on the to heat deal. It is 90 F in SE Ohio this afternoon and I should be outside with the sawsall finishing a demo project but heading to the basement with A/C sounds better. Still a month before I head north to escape the heat.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.
The wife went to a ladies' bicycle clinic last night, so I went to a bar for dinner. Draft beer and a tasty gumbo, but now I've got heartburn.
My City Classics company houses should be waiting at my LHS by now. I think I'll make my standard loop of LHS, grocery store and hardware store after lunch. Later on it will be the mountain bike again, but I want to do a short ride on the road bike to decide if I've got the wheel straight enough or if I need a new one. I stopped in to a bike shop yesterday, and the mechanic told me that on a wheel as old as that one, 30 years, the spokes get brittle and it's cheaper to go with a whole new wheel than to replace the rim.
We are now entering that part of the year when I actually do a lot of modeling, because there's AC in the train room and the rest of the world is just too damn hot.
Afternoon, Folks!
Today´s PT did not go well. It was too hot for me to feel comfortable. The room was stuffy and sticky, as the therapist kept the windows shut to keep the hot air out. Of course, no A/C - hatdly anybone has A/C in my neck of the woods.
I am just glad I have two days of rest ahead of me. Maybe I can run a train? I don´t know yet - my friend will hopefully be calling today.
This place has been quite empty lately. The list of MIA´s is more than a mile long. Just to name a few, who have not dropped by for a long time:
This list is by no means exhaustive!
Out of the more recent posters, Galaxy´s missing, Barry has not come in for a few days, Todd is a rather seldom guest, just like Rob.
Good to see Bama´s back!
I think we need to give this thread a little kick to attract new people and to "lure" old ones back. Any ideas?
