Ray -the third one says malignant.

I´ll be in Hamburg at the University Hospital for further checks and possible treatments on Friday. I don´t want to take any chances.

Galaxy - no, no trading in of the old body of mine. It´ll have to do until the end of the days. May that be a long time from now.

Ulrich, I was afraid that is what you were saying.....  You are right to agressively treat it and get it done with!  You will be in my constant prayers for a good outcome with this.

I´ll be in Hamburg at the University Hospital for further checks and possible treatments on Friday. I don´t want to take any chances.

Dots - Sign Ulrich, you know what I mean.

I am very sorry to hear this news. But rest assured they are doing great work these days and I hope you will come flying through this much quicker than Flip and I.

You will be in our prayers and I am sure Galaxy will have a candle lit on your behalf.

I was to Saskatoon yesterday for a follow-up on my hospital stay there in March.  All looks well in regard to my right lung. it is healing nicely, but not quite there yet.  I have gained three pounds back and will continue to work on that. The Doc left it up to me in regard to continuing with the dilation therapy and I should contact her when I have my strength and weight back to let her know my descion.  Right now there is no swallowing where before after the second treatment I had some ability.  It's goofy I know, but lately I have started to dream about eating and swallowing a number of my favorite foods.

Best of luck Buddy,

Johnboy out........................and still healing. Back to work part time on May 4th. In the mean time, a trip to Montana for a few days.

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

Happy lunchtime, diners.  Its a grey, overcast day in SE Ohio.  More water in the basement this morning after last night's rain.  I have four contractors lined up to give estimates to fix the problem over the next two weeks.  Just wonder whether I can afford the fix.

Mr. Beasley, I took me a good five years to finally gear down to retirement mode after actually retiring.  Your wife needs time to adjust to a different pace of life just like me.

Ulrich, hope you have good outcome on your upcoming treatments.

Time for a yogurt, my standard lunch and then lay some more track after I shop vac the wet spots.

I don't think she has any notion of learning to relax, Jim.  What I have to teach her is that I am not a "resource" that she can assign tasks to, just because I'm home.

I got very accustomed to retirement "my way" while she was in Florida, and I kind of liked it.  Having an agenda is not in my plans.

Afternoon diners,

That might be a good tip I'll remember to look and discuss the next time I go get some foam.

Take care of yourself Ulrich, don't freak out.

Afternoon all, the weather finally broke here- or should I say unbroke, it's self. Its finally nice outside and stopped snowing.

Work's been interesting, and people really do like to cause trouble for no reason.

I had a serious cold/illness. It was a cold with a sore throat, headache, and congestion. My entire chest was clogged, and with my asthma I could barely breathe. If I wasn't in my 20s, I would have gone to the hospital instead of work

I'm looking at an airbrush to purchase for my models, and have started putting in DCC decoders easier than before.

I'm still looking at college/tech for a career, but I do plan to go. I also got a decent bit back for my refund- savings, car maintaince fund, fun fund.

Have a great day all. Healing thoughts sent to those who need them.

Track Plan I wish I had made the plan, one of the guys here at the site made it for me. It is on 3D Plan It and the photo does not do it justest. In 3D you can see more rails hidden under the montain and the grades. Has 2 main lines and a brach line. You can see only part of the branch line.

Urich I am in your round house and God Speed. Hope you can stay in touch with us here at the dinner.

I found out it was LAPD Swat Team, they rammed the guys gate to get in the fenced yard and they had the street closed off.

I thought you were going to say that the vicious neighborhood dog had gotten caught in the dumpster and the police came to let him out so he could do more damage.

I still remember one of the biggest police stories in our town, the one that made the front page of the weekly paper:  Town Police Assist Air Force Security in Apprehending Pig.  It seems that yet another one those cute little Vietnamese pot-belly pigs had grown to adolesence and the owners realized it was no longer cute or little, so they let it go.  It had found the Air Force base and was romping on the runways, a situation for which the Air Force had no training, so they called in the pros.

Gold Afternoon Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual humongusoid cup of coffee with lots of cream, please.

Just relaxing before taking a sanctioned nap.  Have to pick up MOH at airport from visiting sister at midnight.

Ken:  that looks like a nice layout.  Looks like double track main for continuous running with separated industrial for switching.  Would you plan to have frequent visitors?

Ulrich:  I sincerely hope everything works out alright for you and that you can be Cured.

Dennis:  The other side of that is they don't send out the SWAT team unless they think they might NEED one.  Whoever they were after for whatever reason had the potential of making the evening news!  Hey, I could have watched the vid on my KTLA app! :):)

i hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Ken: That was a sympathy/commiseration line, NOT a direct comparison!

Hence, the reason I followed it with the quote "Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you."- Charlotte Whitton

And the "when you are down at the bottom, you can only go up^" line.

That was all meant as "I feel and understand your pain, brother, here is a quote to help ease it: ...."

Or as In: "Cheer up buddy..."

Do you have those feelings when your buying trains for the main layout and than buy more trains in different eras?

Is accuses many times thru the years. I buy railroad equipment for the modern era and then buy different freight cars for the 1980-90s. Then again for the 1950s and perhaps 1960s thru 1970s (if I can find a railroad I like to model the 1970s another than my favorite passenger train Amtrak.)

Here's my list in different eras:

Southern Pacific: "1940s during the war?" Or somewhere in between.

New York Central: 1957-1965 (sometimes I think about running more steam in the 1940s)

Santa Fe: Fall of 1956 in Kansas.

Union Pacific: 1957 in Nebraska.

Penn Central: 1969

1970-present: Amtrak

Burlington Northern: (late 70s or early 80s?)

Santa Fe: (1975 or around there to the present 1995)

Conrail and CSX: 1987-89

Conrail/CSX/BNSF/NS/UP: 1998-2007

*Some other railroads include BO, CO, ACL, NW, SOU, GN, CBQ, CS, SCL, DRGW. It's not my fault! I want to model almost every railroad, but I'm trying really hard to stay within 2007. My collecting is almost done well not really I got 1/4 gone. I started buying auto racks.

Don't be surprised if I start talking about different railroads other than the main one. I love reading about history during those/these times. I'm a complete railfan.

Good night diners talk to tomorrow morning. Bye.

angelob: do you get the TRAINS historical magazines?

I have really only wanted to model 1 line, the B&O and all incarnates. That gave me so simple.complex steam, to transition, to modern and ALL> I could "pick an era" and stick to it.

That was my plan, however, yours may vary by track mileage. Yours may vary.

Ah, well, I have collected odd bits of equipment and only once did get credit for getting the "right thing"...I can be "harder"on myself for an error than on MOH for not knowing something.BUT all things can work out and I am not such a disciplinarian that I can't have tollerances.

Its my railroad and I'll run it my way.

those in serious need..

Johnboy, Ulrich,Mr. B.

Those candles are lit!

Today's word:

recto

PRONUNCIATION:
(REK-toh) http://wordsmith.org/words/recto.mp3

MEANING:
noun: The front of a leaf, the side that is to be read first.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin recto folio (right-hand leaf), from rectus (right). Ultimately from the Indo-European reg- (to move in a straight line, lead, or rule) that is also the source of regent, regime, direct, rectangle, erect, rectum, alert, source, surge, arrogate, abrogate, regent, and supererogatory. Earliest documented use: 1789.

NOTES:
In languages that are written left-to-right, such as English, recto is the right-hand page. In languages written right-to-left, such as Arabic, recto is the left-hand page. The other side is called verso.

USAGE:
“The foot of the opening recto displays an unframed heraldic device: the royal arms of England.
The Opicius Poems; Renaissance Quarterly (New York); Sep 2002.

Today's limericks:

He switches from loud, effervescent,
to moody and strangely quiescent.
Mom, don’t be alarmed.
It’s just part of the charm
of a newly-arrived adolescent.

-Anne Thomas, Sedona, Arizona?

In the old days a small catacomb
Was the papal retirement home
But now that’s too gloomy
They want something roomy
An alcove in airy St. Peter’s dome.

-Steve Benko, New York, New York

And now for a 12-second Seder:

When Moses said “Time to perambulate”
The Hebrews had no time to calculate
They grabbed all their bread
From the ovens and fled
Which explains, dear, the matzo ball soup you ate.

-Steve Benko, New York, New York

Moving on:

“Here’s how we can Democrats expurgate
We’ll go and break into the Watergate!”
The thought made him giddy
That’s G. Gordon Liddy
Alas, ‘twas his boss he’d obliterate.

-Steve Benko, New York, New York

The fight caused quite the hoopla,
Between the batter and southpaw,
One punch to the mandible,
Which was oh so frangible,
So hence the expression, “glass jaw”.

-Joan Perrin, Port Jefferson Station, New York

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

Morning guys

Haven't been in lately cause I've been too busy with multiple jobs and working on things. Now I do have some time, but the things I wanted to get done outside can't really be done now. Or for the next week according to the weather people. 100% chance of rain for the next 7 days... Glad I live on a hill...

Work threw me a kind of curve ball though. The 2 incompetent bosses I had at one of the places I work got transfered to another store. Well they apparently decided to drag me with them without asking, and didn't even tell me till the day before I'm supposed to start at the new place. I happen to think the place runs a lot better without those 2 here cause they both got replaced (and the replacement actually know what she is doing). There is a reason why I said 2 incompetent bosses; they combined to make a schedule, and not only cut my hours way down, they scheduled me only on days or at time I told them I can't work.

I actually did get some work on trains done. I have a custom-painted ex-GN SD7 that I had a TCS A4X with an MRC sounder for sound. Well the sounder lost it's bell, and my ABBA of SP F-units* had 2 Soundtraxx Tsunamis, so I decided why not swap on of the F-units sound decoders into the SD7. It worked partially, but it turns out the decoder that came with the F-units' output is 3 volts. It wouldn't work with the 1.5v bulb I use for beacons. So I had to order a resistor; and thus, the unit is kinda shelved for a bit.

*that one just kinda happened when I was picking up F-units, I ended up with and SP ABA set, and I had gotten a free ATSF F3B I couldn't use, so it got spray canned to match

Bob, I'm actually doing BN in the late 70's early 80's. My 70's holdouts are ALCOs, but then I have a GP15-1 which is an 80's (Frisco acquisition) unit.

Ulrich, Good luck there, hopefully it's nothing major.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good morining.

Angelbob ... That's an impressive list of RR's and eras.

Vincent ... Interesting about decoders. I installed defective decoders with in some B-units. Sounds like your bosses like you more than you like them.

Ken ... I like that photo taken at St L RR Museum.

JohnBoy ... Hope you will eventually eat what what you dream about.

Ray ... Your scenery looks very good.

Last two evenings we went to the Rotary Club Auction. The auction will be each evening all week, and it raises money for education. .... We bid on stuff we could use and stuff we probably would not use.  .... We did not bid on the squirrel skinner.

I finally completed all of the tax returns I was doing for people. Now I should have more model railroad time ........ except for ..... (yep, you guessed it) ... Honey Do !

Happy model railroading, everybody.

Ohhhhh, I'm sore.  But, being sore on a Wednesday morning usually means I played a good game of hockey on Tuesday night.  Over the past 10 days I've had 2 days of skiing, 2 hockey games, 3 more days of skiing and another hockey game.  Despite the doctor's orders to get some exercise every day, I think I'm going to take today off and recuperate.  Maybe put in some window screens this afternoon.  Retirement is great.  I feel like a new man.

angelob6660

Oh, yes indeed.  I was a committed Late Transition Era guy, 4 axle diesels but still cabeese.  Then one day, I was smitten with a bad case of steam.  Not only did I come home with an 0-6-0, I'd also fallen in love with sound.  My quiet, well-defined time frame is now a noisy mish-mash of steamers, diesels and even a GG-1.  I will eventually clean this up and run one era or the other, with the other equipment (and automobiles) stashed away, but for now I'm doing trackwork and I want to keep a bit of everything around for testing the track as I lay it down.

Best wishes to you all.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of Buttermilk Pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and lots of Marrakesh Express dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug.  Thank you Ma'am!

Already went down cellar and found the siphon needed to be started....  I guess the rain a couple days ago has soaked down in and has the water flowing into the Basement again....  I have a Dermatologist Appt. mid afternoon today.  Then I/m going to head to Rochester early for the evening meeting at RIT for the Convention Committee.  I plan to swing by the Hotel/Motel that I will be staying at for the Convention so I will know the route and exactly how long it should take to get from there to RIT during the convention.  Since there are no rooms available in Rochester itself, I will be staying in one of the suburbs and it will take about a half hour drive to get to RIT I think....  Want to know the route so I don't take a wrong turn when I am pressed for time!  I'll grab supper at a Subway near RIT and go charge my PiP at the charging stations at RIT while I have dinner and wait for others to show up...

Mr. B, I like your style of excersize!  I need to get back to walking a mile or so every morning, and simply walking around the neighborhood just doesn't excvite me.....  Don't think I would be safe anymore on ice skates...  been about 25 years since I have had a pair on.  As a teenager I was big time into Roller Skating and Jazz skating for several years.  There was a time when I thought nothing of putting a 65lb. backpack on my back and hiking 5 or 6 miles up a mountain to go camping with the troop....  Today I couldn't make that far on the level with that much weight on my back.  Probably could do that even without any backpack on my back.... Old age is catching up top me I guess.

Catch you all later!

Afternoon Folks!

I had a bad night and now I am done in! A nightmare did not want me to sleep, making my heart attempting to win the Cape Town races. I finally got up at 3.30am. Although it is beautiful and warm day today, I could not make myself to do anything, not even run a train.

Come Friday and things may look brighter - hopefully.

I am lucky I can walk to the mailbox anymore. They wouldn't take me in the service, they asked if I took any medications, I said I had  an inhaler, the recruiter stopped me and said "that's it, you're done".

~Well, PT said I should be done with them, if the Surgeon agrees on Friday, I can cancel and close my case.

~I called the therapist my Dr recommended, she acted like I had leprosy when I told them what insurance I had! They referred me to some org. that should take it, she said. I have basically good insurance, backed by the Gov't. Dunno. It can get out of pocket expensive on MOH's High deductible plan.I HOPE we are one step closer to good counsel.

~got toys and gifts and presents oh my in the post today. BNo, not trian stuff, at 14 locos and about 60 RR cars, I have ENOUGH. I mentioned selling them off and MOH swore at me, and siad "we have invested enought in them, if you do then you'd best get a great price for them".If I have to move out, thEY ARE geting sold, I am not about to haul them all over creation while i search for a new place to live!

Dinner will/may be late, MOH has a client tonight and "May stay late"...I siad "call me if you are late", MOH acts like I asked for a kidney! Is it THAT hard to call to say "I will be late, I expect to be home at "XX" time?". apparently SO.

I almost got sideswiped and I DID get run off the road! Little old person {i know I am fastly becoming one} who can't see and can't HEAR when I blasted the horn! RAn me right off the to the shoulder and I gunned it to get past he/she/it him/her/them!Didn't even flinc at the horm when I laid on it

 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer please and keep them coming.

Been a bad day $ for me. Sigh Had to cash in another $428.50 for the Blood Money to BoS. I thought they closed at 5:00 or 6:00 PM, I was wrong. They close as 4:00 PM, but I just made it in before closing so I was still in the grace period so no late fee.

Now, am I lucky or unlucky? Made it to BoS in time but when I tried to back out it felt like I had the brakes on? Got the car parked again and took a look. Seems I broke a outer tie rod end when I pulled in! Sigh I was driving the wifes car that I just spent $187.00 on the brakes and knew there was tie rod ware and would need to be replaced but I was told I had some time.

Zack was the one that was sent to pick up the Town Car and had installed the brakes and inspected the front end. He was Surprise to see one had broke! Told me "I have seen them with way more ware than what yours had, and had not broken!"

I had plan on setting funds a side for the Tie Rod Ends, but I was plainning to buy the parts first, then pay for the labor. Only part that I and turly PO about is the tow bill, it will be around $70.00 to $100.00 and I will need to do the repair soon.

Well, my goalie equipment weighs about 40 pounds, and I gladly put that on before venturing out on the ice.  I took two hard ones off the helmet last Thursday.  Didn't feel a thing.  At the end of the night, I think the equipment was about 3 pounds heavier and I was 3 pounds lighter.

Ken, sorry to hear about the tie rods.  A while back I swapped cars with my daughter, because post-retirement I'll be doing less driving and I'm fine with the 1999 Corolla we got her when she got her license 8 years ago.  I took the car to my shop for an oil change and asked them, as always, to look her over.  (The car's name is "Carol," as in Carol Corolla, I suppose.)  Anyway, they put her up on the lift and pointed out the tie rod wear.  When I drove home later that day, I immediately noticed the difference in this fine little car, and I smiled.

Cuda Ken,

I thought You said You were a Mechanic....worked on all those Mopars You said...You could have put the tie rods on yourself. Put the sleeves on the new parts following the old ones and take it for a front end alignment. It's only toe in and out on those tie rods that You would be replacing. Tie rod end removal tool if You don't have one costs about ten bucks.

Surprised You didn't hear any knocking when steering or binding before it went......thank Your lucky stars You weren't driving in traffic.

Take Care! Big Smile

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of hot decaf is very much in order right now....

Long and interesting day around these parts today.  Had a dermatologist appointment mid afternoon so I decided to take off for Rochester right after that rather than driving back home (charging the Pip) and then head to Rochester as I was already 16 miles closer to Rochester by being in Canandaigua.  Does that make sense?  Anyway I drove to Henrietta, NY to see where the Hotel I am staying at is and then drove to RIT from there picking up a sub for dinner over near RIT.  Got to RIT Lot T where we are to park to get to the building we were meeting in about 10 to 5, and since that lot has "free" EV charging available  I pulled up to where they are and, of course, all 4 spots were taken  (Two Chevy Volts, A Ford C-Max Energi, and a Honda Fit EV).  No problem as the meeting was at 7 PM.  BY 5:25 one of the Volts was moved and I pulled up and plugged in.  Had plenty of time before the meeting to complete the charge and was ready to move it just as the first of the other guys showed up.  The tour of the rooms was great, decisions were made on what would best go where.  We will need to work with the College on the set up for each of the rooms for the convention but that can be done later.  They will even set up Handicapped parking signs in the back parking lot for us.  (No stairs on that side)  Had a short meeting on several other odds and ends needing to be decided, and then headed for home!

At the Dermatologist, she checked over all the psoriasis spots I had and said they are doing quite well and to get some sun on my back.  She checked out my hands, arms, face and neck.  On my face and head, she said, "You have some sun damage we need to take care of".  I said, I have that on my hands don't I?  She said, Let me rephrase that, what is on your hands is sun damage but just age spots, what is on your face and neck is pre-cancerous!"  She said it is common in people who have psoriasis and is generally slow growing and seldom becomes a real problem (Cancer...) but should be removed.  So, I asked her when that can be done (thinking surgery) and she said, "Right Now."  She picked up the liquid Nitrogen and I now have major frostbite in two places...  The one behind my ear has already blistered up and will probably break over night.  I now can't go outside without a hat and sunscreen.....

Ken, tie rods are easy to replace.  I've even done a few in my lifetime....   Huh?  Well the ones I replaced were on an old Ford 8N and an Alice Chalmers B.   Oh, I see...  A bit more complex on the car....  Well yes, I can understand that.   But the toe in was something we did make sure it was somewhat, more or less a tad narrower in the front than the back....  As long as it could steer and still be handled at the incredible speed of 15 mph it was fine....   But I was only 9 or 10 at the time. WhistlingLaugh  I did have a couple come loose on some old tractors, but a large crescent wrench and the ball peen hammer in the tool box fixed that!

Gotta check the siphon in the basement, check my blood sugar, and head to bed.  See you in the morning!

I'm getting my mom ready to leave tomorrow to visit her daughter Jackie in Richmond, VA. Unfortunately she hasn't packed yet. Apparently she going to take her vacation during her birthday on the 23rd, and be back in two weeks.

Galaxy the only Trains Historical magazines are the Norfolk Southern Heritage locomotives and Trains Railroad Maps. I got Trains in the 1970s in pre-order.

If your talking about other railroad history books I wish I buy them, but most of my money goes to trains or gets taken away by my dad.

Thank you Garry it is impressive list. Luckily I stay around 5 railroads.

Mr. At least there are model railroaders like us buying railroad equipment for different eras.

Good morning.

I'll have coffee and an apple turnover, please.

Anybody have plans for their layouts and/or trains for the next few days?

I am still working on my layout extension. I am doing very little at a time with that project. .... Currently, I also have some hopper cars to assemble. I just received a supply of Kadde couplers in the mail.

Happy model rairloading.

Looks like another Mister Beasley's Busy Day!  I've already got lunch planned with a bunch of us retirees and a couple of others from work, and now I've got "the call" that all goalies must heed, so I've got a game at 8 tonight.  Good thing I'm retired and feeling younger every day, huh?

Temperatures in the 60s, even 70s predicted for Saturday.  It's definitely time to re-wrap my handlebars with new tape and put a bit of WD-40 on the chain.  The winding road does call.  Down quite a few pounds since last summer, I'm really looking forward to riding again to lose even more.

I may take apart that Life-Like tank car and start prepping it for its new life as the MOW water car.  It's a fine day for some outdoor spray painting.
