Hey diners,

I was researching the orange M&M trailers used by the New Haven. They were mostly around late 1940s to early 1951 or 1952. I also looked up the yellow NYC logo with silver trailer and only found in late 1950s early 1960s but would it be around in 1957? Before I get them.

The pressure of making this layout is taking it's toll. I'm starting to lose it. I been trying to model the New York Central for 15 years. This was before BNSF, Union Pacific and Conrail. I just can't believe I just can't start it without being disappointed.

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!

April 3rd,2015!

it's Good Friday for

For those in need:

Positive thoughts

Today's Word:

PRONUNCIATION:

The planet Jupiter is named after the Roman god Jupiter and those born under the influence of this planet were supposed to be good-humored. Good Afternoon!

Just a short visit, as we will be heading for Petra´s aunt in a few moments.

Right now, the weather seems to be fair - it´s sunny, but cold. I hope it´ll stay that way until we return.

Galaxy - "Quod licet Jovis, non licet bovis", meaning "What Jupiter is allowed to do, is not permiited to oxen". That´s why the likes of you and I have no importance in the game of world politics Smile, Wink & Grin

Happy Friday.  I scarcely notice the day of the week anymore, and I have to glance at my ancient Casio to remind myself.

I'll be busy for a few days.  My daughter is going to Florida just to say hi to her grandparents, so I'll be taking her to the airport on Saturday.  She and my wife will be returning on Wednesday.  So, I've got 10 weeks of my own mess all over the house to clean up before they get back.  Mostly, it's just all the mail, so no big deal.  I'm going north for a couple more days of skiing.  It's Parrot Head Weekend, the traditional end-of-season party before they start shutting down the lifts.  This year, with abundant snow they've promised to stay open until May 1st, but there's less terrain every day, fewer lifts and the mushy snow is tough to ski in.  Maybe, maybe not.

I picked up some Tichy Bettendorf trucks and some detail parts at my LHS yesterday, so I've got projects when I come back.  After all these years, I'm still occasionally converting old cars from my teenage years to Kadees and metal wheels.

Alas, the last of the snow will probably depart and the frost will come out of the ground, so I'll also be assigned to field work by the returning boss.  At the same time, though, I should be able to get out on my bicycle and get back to the part of losing weight that involves more than just deprivation.

Galaxy, offer them 14K for the lot.  You've got nothing to lose, and you'll at least find out where their real price point is.

I haven´t sunk my teeth into a juicy burger for along time. I will have to ask Petra to put that on the menue again!

Slowly getting ready for bed. It was a sad day today - Petra´s aunt is really in a bad shape. We stayed with her not more than 30 minutes. When we arrived, she was in bed, half asleep. She hardly could say hello, but her eyes smiled again. Both Petra and I had tears in our eyes when we left.

Well, I´d better go now - CU tomorrow and have a good night!

I'll join Richard and have a bowl of cream of wheat.

Has been about 24 hours now since the two wisdom teeth were extracted. Healing well I think. Still have to do farm chores, so will just need to be extra careful and take my time.

Healing thoughts for those in need. Take care all.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I'll have a tall glass of lemonade please.  Yep, almost that warm here in the Finger lakes Region....  Currently 64°F outside.  Sun is peeking out from behind some clouds as well.

I have been busy catching up on many things I needed to get done.  Did my grocery shopping, picked up a couple Rxs at the Pharmacy, stopped at the Value Center for some ant bait and wasp spray.  Gassed up the PiP so it can make it to Canandaigua and back without getting an electric charge while I'm there on Easter.  Got home and my next door neighbor was wandering around our properties trying to find their cat again....  Yep, she made it through the night and since it is a nice day, they let her back outside figuring she would stay right by the house.  The old girl always loved being outside.  She wandered off again.....  Several of us in the neighborhood have been keeping an eye out for her but we think she has wandered off to find a place to die......  She got held and cuddled for several hours last night and appeared not to be in pain, just very weak, but...  Cats can cover up their not feeling good.

Ulrich, I will keep you and yours in my prayers!

Actually was able to dig some parsnips today!  Will get a pailfull later this evening as well.  Guess what I will be having for dinner!?!

Catch you all later!

Thanks.  I believe I'll have another beer.

Ulrich, if her eyes were smiling that's a good sign, at least for now.  A few years back, I directed the ambulance to the home of a neighbor.  I saw him as they wheeled himout, and there was fear in his eyes.  He knew his cancer had gotten the better of him.  He died the next day, I think.  May she pass with a smile in her eyes.

Hello Railfans! Flo, my usaul in a togo cup please. And whats on the dessert cart tonight?

My first post from my temporary digs. I always look forward to the next month's Diner. Nice job on the open.

Sir Madog

Douglas - there is no rule on who opens the month´s Diner. Any one can (and should) do it. Galaxy and I did most of the times in recent years, as we are the ones to be up first - Galaxy being a somewhat insomniac chap and I due to the time difference.

Heir Ulrich - I could be called a night owl as well. Either by lifestyle (i work at night) or insomnia too. Meaning im usually up when you and Galaxy are (im on the right coast too). Some of us have to keep the world spining thru the night, right?

Though as of late i have been on the day shift. Hope it doesnt stay like this. Maybe other late shifters could take the duty and give you two a break.

Quite sure where i end up will be day shift as well. Not looking forward to that, but the railfanning possibilities are 100 fold! Hard to take pics at night. Why does everything have to be a sacrifice???

Hope everyone is doing well! Will post later as i can.

Cheers!

well, the first of the furnace estimates is in.. not bad since it is about the same cost as the furnace was 4-5 years ago. Adding A/C of course about doubles it for a Trane. And duct cleaning will add $695. They do offer 3 years 0 interest financing, so that may be option we just have to take. If I pulled every penny we had, I might could pay for the furnace alone. We can always add air. The box will be there for it.

We will see what the other two come up with, but I am running out of "reputable" dealers who do residential in the area too. There are a few others, but really the do commerical. The Yelp phone book lists 29 but 20 of them are the same dealer, different ads!

ah well, IF we do it, we should do the central A/c this time too, and the 36 month 0 interest financing is under threat as the fed is looking to raise interest rates. It could mean about a car payment for us, but we can add money down to reduce the payment.

so that about it. Have a restful night.

Good morning.  It's been above freezing all night, with a bit of rain.  As predicted, the snow is gone from the roof and more and more of the deck work is showing through as well.

I'll still be heading up north to ski later in the day.  I'm not sure if this will be the end of it.  The wife says she'd like to get on the mountain after she gets back from her winter in Florida, but the long-range forecast is calling for rain up there.  I think we'll have to just play it by ear.  She thinks she wants to ski for a week, but with spring conditions, no crowds and Florida conditioning I doubt that she'd last 3 days.

Morning Guys

Haven't been in in a bit due to work and deciding to give some more time to my girlfriend. Of course the later got mad and isn't talking to me now when work forced me to stay 4 hours late because a manager didn't feel like working (left 4 hours early, and was in the office watching youtube on her smartphone, but barking at everyone else to work).

Athearn announced an NP/SP&S Z-8 Challenger. I figure if I save 55 bucks a month for the next year I can afford it. Now would I want the coal or oil version?

Of course this axes my free budget, as I do need to start saving for some heads and an intake for the motor I am building (The ones I bought before the stroker kit are gonna be too small to use with it).

V8Vega, Happy birthday.

Ken, in that last picture of the Charger, what is with all the smoke?

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I shot a vid of a CSX train in town last week, but have been unable to upload it to photo-bucket. The file size is 557MB, which is 57MB over the maximum. I have no idea how to edit it down, because the clip starts with the locomotives and end with the end of the train passing by. Any ideas?

Morning diners,

Happy birthday Dennis, Galaxy enjoy the furnace.

I went to Michaels last night and found that they were selling on clearance Woodland Scenics Ready grass (summer) and soil. It must be a sign to model the NYC industrial branch. So I bought a roll of grass and three bags of dirt costing under $6.

Since I bought scenery now I have to get the NYC rolling stock, but I be careful to not... I'm still trying to finish my Union Pacific/BNSF and Conrail. I got to stop talking about it, its giving me a headache.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a large bowl of raisin Bran Cereal and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee this morning.

A bit cooler than yeaterday here in the Finger Lakes.  Yesterday was the first day it has been at all comfrotable to be outside without a coat on this year.  Currently 35°F outside with a predicted high of 42° later this afternoon.  Partly Cloudy and windy today.  Wonder if the roofer will show up today with the wind....?  Was down cellar starting the sump siphon (lots of water down there this morning) and checked out the solar reading.  It was fluctuating between a couple hundred watts and 4065 watts withing a few seconds of each other!  The air is nice and clean out there in order for the system to put out that much.  100% of rated power would 4,200 watts.

The neighbors did finally find their cat last night.  They took the dog for a walk and found her over at a neighbors house as they got back home.  So the old girl is hanging in there for the moment.  If she lasts the weekend I hope they take her to the vet on Monday and help the old girl make the transition...... Sad  She can't be feeling good...  even if she is not in terrible pain.

Vincent, you seem to have a lot of problems with the ladies.....  The best advise I ever got, although it was originally intended for Classroom Management but also works very well with other areas of life was, " When things go wrong, cast thine eyes unto the heavens and ask, Lord is it I?  And sure enough...."!  There was usually something I could change to make things better......

Ah....  Hippo Birdie V8!

I'm still trying to figure out where to store my ancient old Cathod Ray Tuibe TV set while the rebuilding takes place....  I'm out of space in the rest of the house!

Back to w*rk!  Later!

Happy B-Day - Dennis!

Afternoon Folks!

I spent an entertaining couple of hours at my friend´s place, where I was able to run a train over his new layout. We also discussed  some scenic features he wants the layout to have. It felt nice to be asked for some ideas and advice!

He has an old HOn30 loco bought years ago which he is going to let me have. With some of the extra N scale track I bought (and have not yet sold) I may be able to build a small, micro-sized layout later this year. Nothing fancy, but enough to have a train up and running.

Nice prospect!

Out for the moment!

P.S. Any news from Johnboy?

Rob,

You might try converting the video to a lesser degree of display. For instance, say your original is recorded in 1024x768 (which is a computer display, not cv), you could convert it down to 800x600. That would make your file smaller.

OR, you can change its format. However! The new format must be one that PB accepts and uses. For instance, say they accept .avi types and .mp4 types. If you convert from avi to mp4 you definately will drop the file in size.

You can actually do both and drop your file size a pinch more than either alone. Do know though that when you make you output a smaller display, you lose detail. This isnt the case as much when just changing format.

Changing format is the preffered method.

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Chloe, nothing for me today unless it will go down my stomach tube.   Yeah, that's it Garry. There is no swallowing happening, and although I am not supposed to be thinking about this right now, my thoughts are that I had better just get real used to the fact that this is where it is at.

I do a lot of blending / emulsifying with a new Blendtec blender I bought . It all has to be watered or mixed with milk or soup etc. But I have done Chinese food ( Todd I was thinking of you ) pulled pork, BBQd brisket, lots of soups and stews, fruits and veggies.  And my stomach has sure started to feel better getting real food into it rather than just the Ensure and Two-Cal.

I am slowly gaining some stength back after my ordeal up north and I am not sleeping as much although when I feel a tired coming on I don't fight it, I go and have a snooze.

Thanks again for all the thoughts and considerations,  very much appreciated.

Happy Birthday to Dennis,  and hope everyone has an enjoyable Easter.  Again,  remember the reason for the Season.

Not much news on the LM&E front right now.  Did go to Micheals and picked up a good Foamcore cutter at 40% off.  Hope to start on the Hydrocal, Downtown Deco Buildings this afternoon.  Looking forward to it so much that I ordered another one for that down trodden scene and that is the "Metals Bank" building.

Boy, there is some really great scratchbuilding going on,  Guys, I am really impressed with your skills and abilities, and that alone spurrs me on.

Sorry, to hear of some of the Family troubles and health issues that some are having. That is always troubling and an added weight to bear.

Prayers and healing thoughts to all those in need.

ROB, Really keep a close eye on your health and any of those aches and pains. I relly worry about you and some others being alone and nobody there to watch over you except the Big Guy up above.

Dennis, another Happy B-Day from me! I saw it this morning, but forgot after my normal morning greeting.

JOHNBOY: LOoks good to see you in the diner, even if you can't enjoy the taste of our food, but sounds like you are doing fine on that {getting some solid food}. I once was in the hospital on "soft diet" {i never did know why?}, which meant "puree'd everything. It was horrible, and later When my mother had her first stroke, and lost her speach, I was there and when dinner came..."salisbury steak''-puree'd- for her,  I fed her the first bite and her face grimaced. I said "I know, it doesn't taste the same puree'd, does it?" she shook her head furiously. I said "well, try some some more.". The strange thing is when I had a cardio-cath done, i had to lay for 5 hours flat on my back with the weight pressing against the incision in my leg and they brought me a dinner tray. I couldn't see it, but they couldn't have brought me a burger or chicken fingers that i could eat finger style, now could they? NO, it had to be something mushy with MASHED taters N gravy on the side! HOW was I to eat that laying flat on my back with no one there at the time  to "feed" it to me? So I DO KINDA FULLY under stand your trials and tribulations with food! Not fun, but sounds like you are getting 'variety' in your diet.

I haven't decided what to do about the furnace. Gotta get 2 more estimates, but since his price is only $75 above what we paid for this furnace 4-5 years ago, so I dont' think he is off the mark! We can't really do the C A/C now, so I think that is OUT.  I've played the finance budget game 14 ways to sunday, and can't really work out what will be a car payment's worth of money... so i don't know. There IS room for "extra contingency" in the budget..not much, but its there...but if I add in the furnace/a/c payment it disappears totally and makes it too tight if not negative. I'll figure it out, we have until august really to do it, so MAYBE i can save more money if no more other problems come up in the 4 months in between? Have to do something, we discovered the sheet metal around the firebox is warping in the excess heat of the unit!

It is RAW outside, I'd have thought it was fall again, what with the flurries out there ,the nasty cut-through-you wind, and no sun day. This furance is still keeping us warm adnd toasty, but doesn't run every 15 minutes like it does in the bitter cold of Feb., so it has a chance to cool down in between runs.'

Dinner is nothing fancy, just 'comfort food'- Hamburger helper, cheap, easy and quick.

see ya later...

Evenin' folks!

Janie, a refill for my decaf would be nice....

A blessed Passover to those of the Hebrew faith and a Happy Easter to those of us who celebrate that!  I shall have a very full and busy day tomorrow with family.  My sister who loves customs like the Eastyer Bunny will have us all going out to eat in a most fancy (and not that great) restaurant mid afternoon tomorrow so I will have a couple hours to get some things done after church.  Then I will head out to my son's house for another Easter Dinner put on by his MIL.  That is the one with the great food and company!  I have a couple small baskets of goodies for my granddaughters!

I had fried parsnips again for supper along with some sweet Itailian Sausage and mixed friut.  Been waiting a long time to be able to dig parsnips from the garden, and it was worth the wait!

The roofer didn't show today.  Possibly too windy to work up there.  He said he would call me before he comes over, but I know he was hoping to get it done for me today.  Need to get the old chimney removed before the contractor can remove all the ceiling.  That is supposed to happen sometime next week.

I did spend some time in the train rooms today and did some work on the area of Keuka Creek.  Darkened the color of the "stone" and added some pieces of real local stone to it.  Also got the hillside plastered and painted earth color.

I'll pop in sometime tomorrow between activities...  Have a good night and my prayers to all in need!
