Good Afternoon!

It´s a nice and bright day, just like the weather guessers had forecasted it for Petra´s birthday! I managed to sneak out and get a beautiful bouquet of flowers for her, which earned me a big hug and a long smooch! After 31 years of being married - I am shocked!

LaughLaughLaugh

The two of us just enjoyed our afternoon coffee with a slice of her birtday cake. No, I didn´t make it, just bought it. Petra spends so much time in the kitchen, so I thought it to be nice not to have to take care of the cake this time.

Galaxy - I do hope everythings turns to the bright side for you this coming weekend!

No major plans for the rest of the day. I may watch o a few steam videos on the "tube".

Mornin' all...  And a happy Friday the 13th. to you!

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee for my R&GV RR mug and a couple doughnuts to gto along with it.  Hmmmm, I'll take a chocolate glazed one with buttercreme filling and a glazed sour cream one for dunking...  Thank you Ma'am!

Rob, I knew there was something I liked about you!  An Eagle Scout!  That would explain why you seem to exemplfy the Scout Law...  (Extends Left hand for the handshake!)

Ulrich, please wish Petra a Happy Birthday from me.  You certainly got a keeper with her, and may many more hugs and smooches be in store for both of you!!!

Currently 2°F and sunny outside this morning.  Yep the sun is shining out there...  Not doing my electric bill any good because there is still a foot or more of sn*w sitting on the solar panels on the roof.  Later I will try to remove a bit more and see if they will start to fire up.  The temperature here in the Finger Lakes will not go above freezing at all in the next 10 days.  That is not all bad news as the last thing we need here is a 50° day to melt all the sn*w at once... Whistling  I have about 2 face cords of wood left on the back porch and a little less than a face cord still sitting in the drivway.  Doubt I will have any left by the end of the heating season this year...

Have a great day out there.  Stay safe and warm!

Bright and sunny here today, but unfortunately the high temperatures will barely make it out of single digits today, and we'll be well below zero tonight.  It looks like our predicted foot or more of snow will be more in the 4-8 inch range over the weekend.

My ice dam leakage catcher held up well last night.  I've got to go pick up some bathtub sealant, though, as the Aileen's Tacky Glue that I pressed into service the other night isn't going to provide a permanent seal in a submerged environment.

I've got a new graphics card on the way for my computer.  I'm pretty sure that's the only thing that could cause the problem I'm having, as the computer is up and running and the monitor seems fine, too.  Just as well.  I spend too much time online and I've got a myriad of other projects, both house and trains, to work on.

Taxes done? Check.

Happy Birthday wished to Petra? Check! Happy B-Day

Ulrich: the weekend soiree is not this weekend, it is in 2 weekends, the 28th, tomorrow is valentine's day, though, and I was right, I got the WRONG flowers...MOH says the miniature roses will die off, and wanted the cut flower roses {that don't last long either? whats the dif?} to quote George Lopez: "man I can't do nothing {right}"...we will see how the other gifts go along, if the diamond heart necklace is wrong, i can blame it on our niece, who helped me pick it out!

Pulled tooth? Coming up, soon to be checked off.

Nap for now until pulling of tooth? Check

Later to y'all? check!

Good afternoon Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual significantly large cup of coffee with copious amounts of cream, please.

Ulrich: please wish YOH Petra a happy Birthday.  I think that's schones Geburtstag, but I'm not sure on that.  And as I always say, congratulations or condolences, whichever apply.  PS: I did print out the 2x4 track plan and list, so I have it.  Yes, you're right, no excuse!

Galaxy: we're rooting for you both.

Does anyone know if the die cast side frames on older BB locos can be replaced with the better and far more accurate plastic side frames of newer(since the 90s) versions?  If not, can the newer power trucks with the side frames be acquired and adapted to the older frames?

My start date for the new job got pushed back a week.  That makes the ol' financial situation a bit tight.  In this case it has been a blessing that I haven't had to go out in this weather and spend money on gas looking.  When I was younger, I remember going out and literally walking for miles going door to door looking for work.  That was back in '70-71 during a recession.  Nowadays, one can sit in the comfort of home with a steaming hot cup of coffee and search the world for work on the Internet.  It's a totally different world now.

well, that's all for now.  I hope everyone is ok, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

well,

the good news is the dentist dind't pull the tooth tha the root {"rut"} canal failed on.

He said he'd rather crown it and try to save it. My insurance will cover about 40%, then we get a 60% off balance as we are low income. SO that is the plan, stan.

Other'n dat, nothing else going on good to get the taxes filed though.

I feel like i am talkign to myself in here today!

Hello, everybody .

Regarding PM's ... I believe my setting are set right, but ..... I don't think Ken received the one I sent a few days ago ......... and I did not receive one from Galaxy .

Galaxy .... I don't know if there is much I can do except say I care. Best wishes to both of you.

I've been doing "other stuff", but I have done a little work on the layout expansion. I also took a new photo for WPF.

Oh Joy........  Oh Rapture!!!

Evenin' folks.

Janie, just a cup of decaf please.

Currently 2°F outside...  The wood stove is going, but doesn't seem to want to take off and get hot tonight...  Will take a bit more time I guess.  We are under a "Winter Storm Warning" here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS from tomorrow morning until Sunday night:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BUFFALO HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW... BLOWING SNOW... AND EXTREME COLD... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SATURDAY TO 6 PM EST SUNDAY. * ACCUMULATIONS... 3 TO 7 INCHES. LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.  WINDS... WEST 20 TO 30 MPH.  VISIBILITIES... NEAR ZERO AT TIMES.  WIND CHILLS... AS LOW AS 35 BELOW ZERO AT TIMES.

I have spent most of today finally getting the list of Hotels done for the  Convention and a few other pressing items.  I am now going to disappear to the train room for a while before coming back up to check my email and see what other "can't wait" issues have somehow appeared that need my urgent attention!

Later!

Hi guys; I've been out of pocket for aome time now. Would youplease fill me in on what happened to Jeff. He was a really amazing modeler. Did some great things with what many would consider our junk. I'm glade  that I had  been able to see his stuff and visit with him a few times.

Hi Paul,

Certainly I will be glad to fill you in on Jeffrey, that fine remarkable man we all knew and loved.

Jeffrey had a "charcott" condition in his right foot. The bones of the foot crush together wrong, and he voluntarily had it amputated, they took it to just below  of his right knee. He got a plastic prosthesis and was proud to be walking on it again.

Then due to his diabetes his left big toe {which he could no longer feel} well, the bone broke through the toe flesh and got infected. He tried to manually cut away the infection himself {remember he couldn't feel his hands or feet}. But it didn't work, gangrene set in and he went to the hospital. Again, gangrene set after they took his big toe and part of the bone into the foot. Finally again, gangrene set in again and they took it below the knee again on the left leg too.

He held a positive attitude always that with two prosethics he'd walk again! But then he took a turn for the worse, as his little sister Lael got ahold of me, myself and I here through the forum to tell me Jeffrey had: had a heart attack and stroke, lost the use of the right side and couldn't talk anymore, and that he knew where he was and he knew his family members, and wanted us to know. Then, later that night, unexpectedly, we got final word from Lael, that Jeffrey had passed away.Time frame was less than a year from first amputation to passsing and less than a month or two from the second amputation of his Left leg. Many of us were left stunned. Time frame of heart attack/stroke was about 2 weeks of not hearing from he himself at the convelences center til Lael Notified me,persoanlly, and I informed the whole group here.It was just before Christmas of all times, he passed and they had his service. It seemed he survived enough to get to pass on word of his dire situation to us folks who cared so much about him on these forums...

He remained always positive for  a man who had no feet that he would walk again.

His full obit is here:

http://www.labbymemorial.com/home/index.cfm/obituaries/view/fh_id/10166/id/2866216

I actaully had tears in my eyes reading it, and cried as though I lost a good friend {because I did} on the day at the time the fneral I started to cry in a moment of silence...for Jeffrey's passing...

We decided to rename Elliot's Trackside diner in Jeffrey's honor. and so January 1st 2015 became the first "Jeffrey's Trackside DIner, January, 2015!" Ulrich opened with a wonderful pictured memorial to Jeffrey, and when I opened tHe February Diner, I shortened it a bit, made it a bit more modest like Jeffrey was in persoanl life.

If you go back to the earlier pages of the January Diner, or of Decembers' diner, I composed an "off the cuff" what turned out to be a "eulogy" for Jeffrey, not intending to.

That is about the whoel sad story.

any questions you have, we will be glad to answer them!

Paul ... It certainly is a pleasure seeing you in the Diner again. I recall your posts and you had both HO and outdorr live steam if I remember correctly. ... I hope all is well with you and your family.  .... Intersting you actually met Jeff. I was able to talk with him on the phone, but I never did get to Lousiana when I could have met him. I also, spoke with his father a couple of times, and was favorably impressed with him too. We Diners are still sad about Jeff's passing away.  .... Please spend more time in the Diner again if you can.

Galaxy ... As I said earlier, my PM's are not working, but take care.

Mornin'..........

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast coffee (My FGLK Mug would be fine) and a half dozen Glazed Sour Cream Donuts for dunking this morning....

Galaxy, about a half hour after you got up this morning, I rolled over in bed, looked at the clock, and went back to sleep for four more hours!  Wouldn't have woken up when I did except for Manét pawing at me for attention.  Probably wanted to let me know one of them had thrown up on the dining room carpet..........

The weather forecast for the area has now been changed to:

TIMING... THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY EVENING. FIRST BURST OF HEAVY SNOW EXPECTED TO CROSS THE AREA FROM WEST TO EAST LATE MORNING THROUGH MID AFTERNOON TODAY... FOLLOWED BY MORE PERIODS OF SNOW AND SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.  HAZARDS... SNOW... BLOWING SNOW AND EXTREME COLD. ACCUMULATIONS... 5 TO 10 INCHES.  WINDS... WEST 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH PRODUCING SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.  VISIBILITIES... NEAR ZERO AT TIMES.  WIND CHILLS... AS LOW AS 30 BELOW ZERO AT TIMES.

May not get over to my son's house tomorrow to celebrate Valentines day a day late with the family...  Have cards for the Granddaughters and one for my son and DIL.  Oh well.... Just getting a very light sn*w shower and little wind at the moment.

Oh, G, here's one for you...  "'tis a pity desire should so outlive performance" - William Shakespear  (you'll have to look it up...  King Henry the IV, part II.)

Just about noontime here.  A good Valentine's Day to you all.  My girls are dispersed about the country at this moment, so I planned ahead and sent each of them a card, including one to Nana who is still in the hospital.

Yeah, more snow.  I stocked up more than usual at the grocery yesterday.  I almost always go to the 12-items-or-less checkout, but yesterday I couldn't.  I'm guessing life will start getting back to "the new normal" later on Sunday, but it was just easier to assume that I needed to stock up through Monday.  No big deal.  Today, though, I need to go get some more beer and wine to enjoy with the nice dinner fixings I picked up.

I'm hoping to get the new graphics card for the computer on Monday.  Looks like it's in the hands of the Postal Service somewhere in the wilds of Connecticut right now.  Using this old, slow computer is gruesome.  The weather, though, might delay delivery of the card so I might have another day of this.

My BLI Hudson doesn't want to move right now.  Either there's something loose inside in the gear train mounts, or there's a worm gear slipping on its shaft.  Either way, it's got to come apart.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Hello All!

Still in the backround....in the corner where the round booth's are.

Still a lot of social life going on in here, but I try to stay out of that....can only hear one side of the story and it takes two, to fully understand what's really happening.

Today would have been My Mother's 92nd Birthday...She passed 2006, so that was my only Valentine wish.

Take Care, All. Big Smile

Good Evening!

It´s been a lovely day - lots of sunshine and temperatures reaching 10°C. Seems as if we are in for an early Spring this year!

I spent the morning developing some ideas for a logging layout of my own, as I don´t want to just copy the design from Gerrd´s layout. After quite a few attempts, it looks as if I have made it!

The layout´s setting is somewhere in eastern France - the Vosges Mountains in Alsace to be more precise. That part of France was either French or German in the last 400 years and the folks there have a language of their own, consisting of french and German Whistling

If I could find a Sugiyama (Flying Zoo) HOn30 Shay or Climax for a reasonable price, I´d move the setting to the Appalachians...

Well, bedtime is approaching, so I´ll be calling it a day!

Good Night, Everyone!

Hi Ulrich,

That track plan looks interesting enough to have some great scenery. About the only thing I would add if viable would be to add a passing siding at the top behind backdrop, to be able to store another train there to run the opposite way when You want.

GUys:

It just ocurred to me:

A while ago I asked if anyone would like to help our dear departed Jeffrey with repairs to his house when it got damaged by a falling tree, as everyone needs a place to live. We raised QUITE A bIT in small increments and a larger donation too. Now, I Realize we cannot help everyone who has a set back, but I DO often give to charity as much as I can, of all types of chairitable organizations. I often get back mroe than I have given form the "universal fund of things".

However, OUR FRIEND ULRICH really needs new glasses, so his vision can be corrected. Now to hear him tell it, these are not ordinary glasses for an ordinary visual problem, they ARE SPECIAL glasses for a SPECIAL visual problem, that COULD make/leave him BLIND.

NO ONE hAS to help, help only if you can and want to. Ulrich is always helping others here, and designing layouts for people.

If anyone would like to help out, send me a PM and we will see what we can do to help our Ulrich...I will start off with a donation to start the fund....

Remember we must convert it to Euros for him when I send international money. I wil have to get details from the CRedit Union.

We raised some $2600 for Jeffrey, we don't quite need that much for Ulrich's glasses, just $900.

Lets see what we can do.

Chamomile tea, please.

***Mister Beasley, how many hours might you have on that Hudson? Have you had trouble with it before? The BLI version has a beautiful whistle, (I think) and is one loco I would enjoy having one day. Hope it is an easy fix for you.

Good Night all.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Update:

To help out Ulrich get new glasses so he doesn't go blind, I now have 2 donations in the collection pot!

As one donor stated: Jeffrey would approve {of the idea}"...

If you wish to help Ulrich raise the $900 needed for the new glasses, Send me a Private Message {PM} and I will tell you what to do.

We raised some $2600 for Jeffrey, we don't quite need that much for Ulrich's glasses, just $900.

{You can send me a PM by clicking on the name badge in the upper left corner of my post or click the cartoon figure of a man representing me, and when the window pops up, click on the right upper corner buttont that says "Start converstion". then up will pop a window that will allow you to type a message just like here, and send to me.}

Thanks to all who do!

It doesn't have to be a lot, any amount will help!! If we could save Jeffrey from Homelessness, maybe we can save Ulrich from Blindness!
