I needed no glasses this morning when I opened the window shades and saw...more snow. We were supposed to get less than an inch, and there was another 4 inches at least, and still coming down. Yesterday, I shoveled the path halfway through this from the door to the driveway:
Yesterday, the snow was knee-deep as I dug a channel through it.

Look's like my property.....I'll give You a few more inch's. But I don't shovel nuttin'.....That's what I have Son's with snow plow truck's and strong back's for.

Lion - life can be easy, if you have sufficient funds to cover whatever comes around the corner. If you don´t have that kind of money, well, you have to see how to manage it.
The list of what´s included in our health insurance seems to be shorter than the list of exclusions. Without going into further detail - when you have to rely on the authorities, you are lost. Depending on the goodwill of government folks sure is beep (expletive, deleted)!

Weather today was cold, but the sun was out and it's later in the winter, so it's not really too bad.
Recently was thinking about the old GE U-boats. On the model, they make a nice alternative to all of the EMD hood units. Maybe someone else can verify this. I seem to remember that the sound they made had a little extra bark to the chug chug of he Diesel engines. It was kind of a neat sound.
MR has a review of Alco S-2s and I definitely remember that Alco switchers had a hi pitched whistle that accompanied the diesel. It was kind of like a harmony if you will. Does anyone else remember this?
Tinkering with SCARM. It has bridges and tunnels,...sort of, but there's no water features that I can find. Are they hidden in some other routine? Anybody know?

I am beat from work. No I was not busy, in fact slow. Reason I am so beat, I have been cleaning up after the Pack Rat / Slob I work with, Dave! Dave sold some furniture off the show room floor. He had sold tags on the iteams and they where picked up last Saturday. Today a full 5 days later, want to guess what was still laying on the floor? The Sold Tags!
He was taking out the trash and the bag ripped open. He just left it where it fell open. He sold a bed (what holds the mattress set) off the floor 4 weeks ago. Guess what is still sitting on the floor, The Mattress set? Pack Rat, he has so much inventory in the store, he no longers remembers we have it! I found mattress and furniture today we have not carried for 3 years? Called the GM for prices and he kept asking "Where did you find that?" My answer was "Under a pile of stuff in back".
Dave has missed placed deposits or made late deposits, wont file paper work, send in Credit app's from customers (need to be sent to main officess with in 7 days), won't throw away old paper work, won't come to work on time, leaves work on and off all day when he is the only one there, petty cash is seldom correct and I could go on and on!
Reson he is still there? Nancy (Owner's wife) likes him! She is not real bright either, but at 72 I will give her a break. Marvi the main owner is fed up, Paul the GM is feed up, and all the other people that works for the company is feed up! Guess I will just keep cleaning up behinde him.

Penny is still in Florida taking care of her parents. They are both doing much better, but they aren't going to be able to live independently anymore, and likely will need assisted living. Penny's been looking at places for them. Nana's dementia is making this more difficult. Penny is a vitamin freak, so yesterday I packed up a bundle of her overpriced "gourmet" pills and mailed them.

Got a couple of inches of snow last night and more scheduled for tonight as well. Because of that I hadn't rushed out as usual to get it off the driveway, but was pleasantly surprised when I came up from the LM&E that my neighbor second over had brought his blower over and was doing ours for us. He had said that while I was recovering, if he was around he would try and help us with those things. I have never done his driveway, but for years I have done the whole east end of our bay which cleans all the road in front of his house, so I guess it is a little pay back from paying it forward. Never the less a very nice gesture that is really appreciated.
Well. back to the guardrails and I will check in later after everybody gets their tummy full and decide to visit the Diner, either for supper or an aftersupper drink.

since no one is posting, I'll stop in and bore you all to tears.
Went to the Psychiatrist today, still nutzso in the head according to him. He gave me some of my one med for Bipolar out of their stockpile, a theme the state is calling a halt to come June. The reason he gave me some is that we have to find a new med that will WORK FOR>ME< and is both covered by my insurance and won't cost me an arm or leg every time I need a month's supply. By the time I pay the new out-of-pocket {OOP} costs they want for all my meds and my insurance premiums, I have virtually no income left! That cannot work on any level!
I also went to Wally world. Picked up the lower strength of the med I take that is now $60+ dollars/m + to me OOP, so I will give the lower strength a try it is also about 1/3 the cost of the OOP per month than the new OOP for the prescription strength. MAYBE that is why the OOP is now so high....to force one onto the OTC brand and MORE OOP. At any rate, the BIG PHARMA isn't going to get any more BIG insurance money or BIG OOP from me any longer! Not for THAT med!
well, that about it. Since y'all know what is going on anyway, it is days like this where MOH left at 11:00 for a whole 4 hours work day {that is supposed to take only from 4pm to 8pm anyway}. There WAS a meeting for 1/2 hour earlier first off to go to for MOH, but otherwise MOH is out TO do who knows what or meet who knows who today?!? MOH wasn't so forth coming as to WHERE WHAT or WHo today was all about. Normally there is a bit of a trail, but not for today, so makes me wonder...no one needs 4.5- 5 hours to get to work at 4pm in the same {small} city?ANd you watch...will come strolling in late to boot, as usually does on Friday nights. Only thing is MOH has to be at second job tomorrow at 8 AM so it will be a bit "earlier" home tonight than it could be for a Friday night. Probably using the dating/pickup site on the cell phone as I KNOW MOH installed at least one of those...found it by accident one day when i took the cell phone of the charger and it was on and to the site {I took it off the charger when MOH was sleeping because it registerd as "full"so as to not burn out the battery,,,common for us to do that for each other if one forgets it is on the charger}..... SO I KNOW IT IS THERE and "IN USE". I should hire a PI to find out where MOH goes or who MOH is seeing, but not sure i want to know. LIES LIES and more LIES is all I will get tonight. Even though MOH knows I know what is going on, I still can't get the truth out..I might could live with some TRUTH.

Made major progress clearing out the train room yesterday. Have some farm stuff to do today. Energy providing, I'll be back in there later today. Have over 1/3rd of it cleared out and clean.
Not sure if I mentioned it or not, but have decided not to try "saving scenes" from the old layout. Will pull up all the structures and start from scratch. I want to weather the buildings this time around. Also, I never cared for the LED lighting I used (cheap ones from Japan or China!?!).
Question: For those who don't detail inside buildings, what kind of lighting do you use so the bulbs are not so visible through the windows? Or do you treat the windows?

RR Front - Last night i put some of the cars with the couplers i been workin on, on my shelf layout. I had alot of fun messing with them for about an hour.
This morning when i got up i did my best to make a set work on a loco that needed coupler work anyways. I could have chose a better candidate (make that should have) for the conversion as it didnt turn out with favorable results.
I spent another hour running the cars today. Again, it was alot of fun switching the cars back and forth from one track to another. Definately not a perfect science, but certainly an enjoyable passtime!
In General - Very sorry to hear some of the things yall have posted. As I have said before, I am only thinking and hoping for you to have the best outcomes to your situations as you possibly can. There just isnt anything else i can do to make it better.
For the eyes on the weather, a rather balmy 40ish+ kinda day. No need to tell you it was sunny, what else could it be!
Got the place to myself this evening. Thinking of taking a bit of a break from the coupler thing and catch up on my Oblivion game.

Gary Reason I was think you where near Evansville Ind is because I have been in Paducah Ky. I had a shop in Evansville and took 64 so I was thinking it was just across the river? Now I have no idea how or why I was in Paducah Ky but I have been there? Eitrher way the trip will be do able with only being 3.5 hours away. Now all I have to do is talk the wife into the trip. Is there any malls near by?

Well, that was interesting. I think I invented a new dish. I call it "exploded potato." It stared out as an ordinary baked potato, but somewhere along the line, it....well, it exploded. It scattered potato guts all over the baking pan. When it came time for dinner, I scooped them all out on to the plate with the steak and asparagus and added sour cream. Yummy! Crispy and brown on the top, too.

Mister B - I know i am sinical. I love a good laugh, especially when it happens to someone unsuspectingly (without harm!). Your potatoe disaster gave me a chuckle. Reminded me of Robin Williams as Mork from Ork tossing the egg in the air while exclaiming "fly! Be free!".
Dont know if you know this or not, some dont. But use a fork to poke holes in your taters before cooking them. Allows the steam to escape. Otherwise, I like the idea. Gives whole new meaning to mashed taters.

Ken - Sorry about the email. I used AOL too for many many years. Had to go through a few email providers before I settled here at GMail. And i didnt want to use it either but since there is absolutely NO, repeat NO decent email provider out there, ya take what you can get.
Your email can easily be fixed, for free, and only take less than 30 minutes to get you back up to emailing. Im sure you know all you need do is just create an account. As said, its free, takes only a few minutes.
As for calling, call anytime. I have more freetime than you do so just hit me up when you have a spare moment. Chances are we both have a free moment at same time. If not, i aint going no where.

Todd, I am waiting for the January thaw to happen... Might happen sometime in April this year. I'm hankerin' for some fried parsnips from the garden. Should have some big ones out there if the ground thaws enough for me to dig them.
The Finger Lakes is (again) under a Winter Storm Warning for the next couple days. This one could bring anywhere from 5" to 10" of the lovely white STUFF! Every time I leave the house, I have to break through the icicles hanging off the roof... Last night the family took my Son's MIL out to dinner for her birthday. We went back to son's house for the cake and ice cream.. My DIL got the car stuck inn her driveway... A couple of us pushed the car to where it should be parked. I was able to make it through the driveway with the PiP, and three other cars are Foe Wheeeeeel Draaaahve, so they can go anywhere! When I left, I managed to get the PiP out to the road with no problem. The traction control in it does work well...
I hope to spend some of the day at least down in the trainroom. May have some photos by tonight to share. I did get the good lense back from Canon. There was a couple problems they fixed, so I will see how it works now.

22 and snowing, feels like 10, or so they say. The prediction is for another foot to a foot and a half over the next couple of days before it tapers off early Tuesday morning, if we're lucky. My exercise regimen has become shoveling. Today, I'll have to dig out to the road and then dig a notch in the snowbank for the garbage can. I didn't even put the can out last week, as we had a monster storm in progress. It's OK. The can is in the garage and it's pretty cold out there. I still store my beer in the garage, but before I drink it I bring it in and put it in the fridge to warm up a bit.
So far, so good on power. They sent a crew down our street earlier in the winter, trimming branches away from the power lines. Nary a flicker through all of this snow and wind. Well done.
I keep finding train projects, which is fine for an old retired guy in the winter. I pulled out my old Revell train station and tried it with a light bulb inside. I used to think it was cool when I put a light inside and the whole building glowed, but now I'm more than 14 and I'd prefer a more realistic look, so I figured I needed to line the inside of the thin plastic walls. That's turned into a total reconstruction job. The last of the windows are glued and clamped in place, so assembly should start soon.
Ulrich, do they sell cheap reading glasses in drug stores in Deutschland? They are common here, and only cost a few dollars. Of course, they are just simple lenses, but if you can find a pair that will serve for close work, they are a lot cheaper than getting prescription glasses. My opthamologist even recommends them.
Todd, my train room has always been "the train room," even when we were planning it. It's the top floor above the 2-car garage we added on. It's roughly 24x24, opens to the house, and is heated, air-conditioned and carpeted. The trouble is, it came out too nice and became "the family room" for a number of years. Now that my daughter is out of college and no longer at home except for the occasional weekend, I'm slowly reclaiming it. I think of it as my "man cave." I can run trains, watch football and listen to my music, the kind my wife doesn't care for. The coffee table has become my workbench, although it has to be cleared off when we do "dinner and a movie" courtesy of me-in-the-kitchen teaming up with Netflix.

Sorry for not dropping by in the last days, but I did not feel up to anything. That issue with my beepers is really pulling me down. I have packed up all of my trains and will sell them - of course at a loss, but I need the money to buy my new glasses. Without glasses, my vision ends about 4 inches from my nose, everything is just blurred beyond recognition. No, cheap drugstore glasses won´t do a thing. I have a high-degree myopia (-8.75 diopters on the left eye, -6.5 diopters on the right eye) - as I said, as blind as a mole. To be able to read, I need to have progressive lenses, as simple bifocals just give me a big headache. There is no way around trying to get the cash I need to get the glasses - and that even pretty quick, as my vision is impaired by the old set.
I got my bad eyes from my dad - I am just glad my son did not inherit it from me.

Been down in the train room tying to put together an building front for the space between the Kanadarqua Yard and the backdrop. It is being made from the leftovers of the Walther's Modular buildings they put out years ago. Of course I don't seem to have a couple parts I need, but I can build them I think.
I'll stop by the WPF thread and check out some posting before I head back down to the layout......
