Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf, please.
Spent part of the day cleaning a foot of sn*w off some of the solar panels. They don't produce much electric with a foot of sn*w on them. Got most of the stuff off 12 of them. Enough that they kicked on and started to melt some it off. Tomorrow the temp is supposed to get up into the mid 30's. I'm ready for the January thaw.... Didn't happen last month. Would love to be able to dig the parsnips out in the garden.
I met the granddaughter when the bus brought them home today. The oldest got of the bus and ran to me as fast as she could with her arms stretched open. I helped the little one with her kindergarten homework and them played a drawing game with them. Their mom came home, I told her I was going to stick around for another half hour to get enough electric to drive home without using petrol. She said, "great, can I go grocery shopping and pick up a couple things...?" So I stayed while she went to the store. I really minded you know...
My son stopped on the way home to help me get a blood sample for testing blackie's sugar... No luck again! That cat has no veins here at home. At the vet's I was able to find it easily, no problem.... I'll make an appointment for an early morning check over there.
Did about 500 feet of ballast in the Kanadarqua yard over the last two days... 500 scale feet that is...
Need to load the wood stove and head to bed. See you in the morning...

Well my Anthony was invited to see his friend Noah. Unfortunately he had a very bad day. Noah also invited John his weed smoking, friend. In which they smoked and drove within 3 hours going to Home Depot and Footlocker.
Now my brother decided not to see his friend anymore since his friend has become careless.

Good morning diners
My brother Anthony is feeling a little better today after that long chat with our mom yesterday during the show, @ Midnight. He's still planning on buying an Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
Good Afternoon!
Well, we had a few hours of sunshine today, so I took the chance to go outside and run a few errands. I also went to an optometrist to check on the new set of spectacles - a rather frustrating event. The ones I need will run up to $ 900 and there is no way for me to shoulder that. With the old ones I am not supposed to go out or even drive - that´s what my eye doc told me. I shouldn´t be wearing them at all, as I will ruin the remains of my eyesight permanently. Pretty bleak outlook!
Why do I feel like this little fellow:
Not so happy at the moment!
Good Morning!!
It has been a bit hectic the last little while, what with my dingdang third lead disconnecting for my ICD, then having it reattached, doing the band thing then getting into some other recording sessions and whatnot... Having some friends over to help get the layout out from under cables and other paraphernalia and then running the trains around.
Flo...I'll have the lunch special with coffee please.
Thankee!!!
Garry: Great looking layout you have there. The video of it did not come out so bad...

Hi all
Ulrich:
~Over here we have agencies that "recycle eye glasses" for those who are poor or indigent. Perhaps there you can get a pair from something like that?
~Over here we also {in my area at least} have a "First call for Help" phone line that one calls for help when one needs it. For referrals for medical, for food, for other. Perhaps you have an agency like that?
~Over here, we have the United Way, who oftens helps poor people with things like eyeglasses or a late or missing rent payment, etc.
~Over here we have a seperate independent organization that also helps poor with late rent, perhaps a new washing machine or car repair etc. Perahps you do too?
~Over here we have CAtholic CHarities, since Catholic churches aboud everywhere in Europe, perhaps you can find the local branch of Catholic charities over there to help you, OR at least point you in the right direction! You DON'T have to belong to the church to get help!
~ You NEED to avail yourself of ALL avaialable such services for the poor, low income and indigent. Find out who they are and where they are and GO THERE. The only SHAME attached is in NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE of the programs they offer when one needs them!!!!
~ If nothing else try a soup kitchen for a meal a day and save the food money for the glasses. They DON'T ask for income or such {at least not over here}. Is open to anyone who shows up to eat. And often not jsut soup and usually very tasty!
~ FInd out where the local food pantries/agencies are adn GO donate your time and muscles to help distribute the goods and get a free bag of groceries for yourself for helping. TRy the smae at a soup kitchen. Just don't overdo it on your heart!
~SO, IN short Avail yourself to these agencies and put your stubborn pride away and USE them they are there for that purpose. LATER, if you have extra $ donate to then to help someone else who may need it. I donate when I can to the local food bank as we have used them in the past! ANd we MAY need them again?
~I went just an hour ago to "free bread day" that a neighbor is involved in. The lcoal supermarket donates the left over bread and baked goods about to expire but still good to use for the churches, soup kitchens, and we, as neighbors, get invited to take advantage of some if/when we need it. Today in addition to bread, I got a tasty Chocolate Devil food red velvet cake with sweet chocolate icing on top! There were also LOTS of donuts, bagels, and other sweets, in addition to rolls, breads of all types, and such.
So try it, you might like it! Those services ARE THERE to use, and I am SURE Germany has them too!
Well, I will be off to get a ROOT CANAL done, or as some same "RUT canal". I will be a hurting puppy later!
Later!
Good Wednesday morning, Diners! 10f and mostly cold sunshine. Wind is blowing, though.
I, too like your video Garry! I get good results by uploading to You tube also. Just seems to work easier than my photobucket account.
Had a good time running the "skakedown" ops session last weekend. Very minor incidents ( running an open turnout, etc.).
I also finished the last about 16' of ballast on the mainline. I am DONE ballasting!

Chloe can I still get breakfast? I can? Great, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with real NYS maple syrup, a couple sausage patties, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee for my FGLK mug. Please and Thank you Ma'am... Oh put Barry's bill on my tab.
Barry, 'bout time you showed up my friend! I was about ready to send the hounds out looking for you. Not sure what that line about the third lead on the xyz thing was about, but it sounds like you are still having fun with the music! Also glad to hear you are getting your layout uncovered and operatble again.
I have spent the entire morning getting materials through to the editor of the Division Newsletter. For some reason if I send him a jpg as an attachment, it shows up embedded in the email on his end and he can't use the photo. Now he can send the same email back to me telling me can't open the photo on his PeeCee, but I can drag and drop the photo back to my Mac desktop with no problem... I started by sending a group of 5 photos to him in a folder. Two he could access and open. the other 3 wouldn't open so he told me I needed to send them as a JPEG. I replied, "They are JPEGs". (In my business I only worked with Tiff images as jpgs will do strange things when processed. TIFF images are what most major magazines insist on for that reason. One less step for them to do before using them. I think everything is under control now. I resent evertything as one photo in a folder, and that seems to work for him. Remember when email used to work?
Woke up this morning with an itchy thumb! The one I tried to saw off. I think it is just part of the healing up as there is no sign of any infection and the itchyness comes and goes.
Have several other things I need to do before going to my son's house to watch the granddaughters this afternoon.
Stay warm out there!
Galaxy - none of what you mention is available in my community. Big cities have more of that, like food and clothing for the homeless etc., but my town is just too small for that. Here in Germany, charity is something left to the government and friends and neighbors are less supportive than you folks in the US and NOB! Now if I were a refugee from Syria, Nigeria, Ghana ... oh, stop it, Ulrich, this is getting political!
I could gon for hours, but that´s not in compliance with forum rules.
Ulrich,
I was under the impression that European-style medical care costs a fortune in taxes, but in return everything is covered, including glasses. If that's the case, why would your glasses cost $900? Also, would you be able to get your vision corrected through surgery, which might be covered by your insurance?
I'm sorry you don't have many charities in Germany. Hopefully something will work out for you so you can get the glasses you need.
It´s a myth from the past, that everything is covered. Glasses are not included at all, and "the third set of teeth" is covered with only 15% of the total cost. Certain expensive medications are also not covered - you have to live with the cheap and maybe ineffective ones.
If I were to suffer from cataract, then the insurance would cover the surgery, but, thankfully, that´s not my eye problem.
Oh, btw, it´s not taxes, it´s an insurance premium related to your income.
well, ib ads numbd as cand be. Thads a gud thingbd, though.

Ulrich; there must STill be help from Catholic charities of some kind. Dunno. $900 sounds awfully expensive, must be what $1200 UEuros?
Lader,
Galaxy - the other way around - there is more $ to € - (1 € = 1.15$)! No Catholic institutions in my neck of the woods - the region is purely Lutheran Protestants - since the days of Martin Luther!
Evenin Railfans! Flo - my usual please, i got some jabbering to do!
In General - Seems a few of you arent having that great of a day. Mine was a hopper delivery from the manure farm itself. However, There was ONE gleaming moment of the day. I thought Id share it with yall. Help take your minds off the woes of the day.
So Ive been working on this coupler project as you all know. Been needing to pick up some things. As usual i want them like yesterday and therefore figured since i didnt want to wait for them in the mail, Id stop by a local store and see if what i needed was there.
My list? Better batteries (like that exists!), coil winding, short and long shank machine bolts with nuts. But, #2's for mounting Kadees. Not for pulling four wheelers out of the mud. Gonna be hard to find in this backwoods town of 50 million redlight lovers.
I went to lowes. Nothing on the list even though their website said yes. Ok, on to the next - Batteries Plus. I figured i would try a better than dime store battery. Also figured they would have it if anyone would. What they did have was some goober working the counter while the other was on the phone (never saw them in 30 minutes i was there! Only heard them). And when i asked goober #1 politely where might i find the correct batts, he kinda looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. Seriusly! He seemed very reluctant to be even there doing anything.
Ok by now this is adding up to a typical day for around here. No suprise. Try one more place. Hobbytown USA. We just got this place about a year ago. Never been in one as these are basically a KMart version of model trains. Low quality, high price. And thats if they even have model trains. Mostly an RC outlet. But ehy use tiny screws too so i figured why not.
And this is where the suprise comes in. Sure, the store added up to my expectations above, but there was one item that practically LEAPED off the shelf.
Now Im walking down an isle, 30 feet away from this thing. Its locked up in a display cabinet the size of one youd use for tall trophys. Along with other assorted items for sale.
As im walking I see out of the corner of my eye a huge golden object. Hey look, we're model railroaders, when theres brass around it stands out. This was a HUGE chunk of it. In the way of a Lionel sized chunk!
Im an HO guy, and certainly dont mess with brass. But i instantly dropped what i was doing and walked googled eyed and drooling over to that display. It was a Berkshire. A "PM" Berkshire at that!!!
No No i dont mean a knock off copy of an NKP Berkshire like everyone always makes in HO. This one didnt look like the typical Lionel either! It had detail! Immense detail! Correct detail too (90% anyways)
Oh she was beautiful. Even though she was in no paint but lettered (odd - no paint but lettering? always heard painted/unlettered lol) as "Polar Express". That figures, but its 1225 and its definately PM. Guys, im telling ya, even if you arent a PM fan or a Berkshire fan, Or even if it isnt your scale or interest..... you would have loved to see this loco.
Ofcourse i asked a few specs on her. These are the highschool kids words, not mine, that was there: "She is one of 200, and she costs $1350.00. Da' Boss bought 3 of them for his stores. This is the last one left."
As said im not Lionel or brass, so i had no clue these even existed! But it sure would look good sitting on my mantle relettered correctly.
I may not be having as bad a day as yall are, but if you can take a moment and imagine a favorite loco or reasonable fascimile, maybe it just might get you through. I know i felt alot better after seeing that model. Kinda made my day.
Hope you feel better!
Douglas

Winter got here today, well a little ice and snow that is. There was some ice on the road but not that bad. No one on the way home was driving like a idiot so drive home was uneventfull.
Turned down the heat in the garage / train room way to much this morning! Trains where sure running slow for awhile. Finaly starting to feel somewhat warm.
Garry send me a PM with your zip code. Like to see how far of a drive it is. Any cheap and pet friendly motels down your way?

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.
The Weather Channel said their computer models show a band of white, uh, solids will fall from now thru Tues from Rochester and Syracuse, down through the Finger Lakes and Poconos, and on into New England. People in that band can expect to get in excess of TWO FEET of this stuff!!! The rest of the Northeast is supposed to get some, too, but not as much as us. I feel so privileged (can't you tell? ). It's not supposed to be one huge storm, more of a procession of smaller systems that will drop some and move on. All. Weekend. Long. Makes me wonder if I should kidnap the missus and move to Key West!
Now that I've depressed Howmus and Galaxy with this news -- good night!

Sorry, but I only heard 2-4", which, judging by the looks of things, is all we got.
i'd/I'll be surprised if we get 2 feet, but why not? Buffalo got it to start off the winter, Boston got it next along with LI, are we next? WHo knows...

{My MIL was agood German catholic, don't forget!}
How about going to the nearby city{ies} for help then, you HAVE the car! If they are illegal for you to drive in ,then you must qualify for SOME program..if you search hard enough....Or ask Christian if he can help out or if there is that kind of help in his city. I refuse to believe you are all alone without a penny to your name!
send me your script and eye pupil dimensions under regular email and maybe I can get a pair for you here.
Hmm: I found this article:
"LONDON, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Germany's eyewear industry continued to record positive volume and value grow during 2014. Note: My travel plans for 2015:
As I said, this 24" of cold Styrofoam is accumulated Styrofoam between now and Tues, not a huge single event. You figure 3" during the day, and another 3" at night, for every day and every night for 5-6 day/night cycles, and you're there. Plus, we're supposed to get a good-sized storm over the weekend into early next week.
Sorry for the weather news, especially since I'm not as attractive as the Weather Channel ladies!

Most of them aren't so hot either, bob!
I see what you are saying now.
We ARE in the middle of FEb, getting close to smack dab in the middle of winter's grip!
As I said, to some people we are NOT convinced "glabal arming" is the big deal! Last summer was relatively mild here, and last winter was brutally cold, and this winter, well, lots of the white stuff AND some COLD.
BUt I guess that is the effect of cyclical global warming...followed by "little ice ages"?

The cold weather still has the grips on us. Not as cold as you have it, but still too cold for me.
That issue with the glasses I need is really setting me back. I have filed a claim for a contribution to the cost with the authorities, but chances are close to nil for being it awarded to me. I can´t continue to wear the ones I have for much longer without risking permanent damage to my eyes, but without glasses I am as blind as a mole
