Mint tea, please.

***YGW, yes, Ulrich is very good indeed at design, not to mention excecution.Thumbs Up

The biggest problem I am running into is for the layout to have a perimeter outer track (for continuous running trains), the track will require 6'x6' of benchwork at "each end" of layout to accommodate the track I have. Confused

I already figure I'll have to lose the sofa in there. So long as I have at minimum 2.5' or more around the layout to move, (preferably 3'), I can work with that.

Time for evening farm chores. Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Italian Roast coffee in a Beyer Garratt mug, please.

Anyone want to help me come up with some plans for benchwork to maximize the space in my Train Room?

The windows are close to north facing, so very little sun hits the room and only for part of the year. The line between the opposing doors should be kept open. My main issue: I have some Kato Unitrack R790mm (31 1/8") Radius 22.5 track I want to use for the outermost track. Think in terms of a meandering loop of sorts with switching into the interior, so I can let a train or two run. Also want easy access to all parts of the layout without any duck unders or swing bridges, etc.. Anyone???Confused

Train room dimensions

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

YGW - I don´t think it tastes like fruit cake. It´s been quite some time since I ate some fruit cake (`bout 40 years), so I am not really sure. Königskuchen has raisins it, a generous swig of rum,  a touch of vanilla and almonds.

Here is the recipe!

Less than good news here.  My mother-in-law is already in rehab after a hospital stay for pneumonia.  Now, my father-in-law is in for tests.  He's already been diagnosed with bronchitis, and the meds they put him on have helped that but the side effects have weakened him.  At this point, he's unable to walk and has no stability.  I am hoping they will admit him.  He needs full-time professional care right now, more than my wife can offer him at home.

Now my wife wants me to fly down to Florida.  I could do that now.  When her parents are there, they keep the condo at 85 degrees, and there's no way I could get any sleep.

Sir Madog

I do like your "geriatric alphabet" The only thing worrying me is that I can follow most letters out of own experience...

I was thinking the same thing, its  a common factor around here, and none of us have quite been through what Johnboy himself has been through!

Healing energies in HIS direction, as always!

Gee,

I sign on and see I must light many candles!

On for Johnboy's BIL's passing, I hope all goes well for making the arrangements,

one for YGW's friend who fell,

and one for YGW's friend who may have relapsed on cancer.

Any other requests?

MOH is feeling better, but drained and tired, I know i am after a surgical event. I am lookign forward to having the pain removed from my shoulder, but the effect the surgery will have on me.

Have a great afternoon, its after noon here already!

Galaxy - do not think Vinny was glaring at you. I believe it was me. Sorry.

Johnboy - Will keep your family in prayer. Tht is very bad news.

Ulrich - Tada ? Tht is such an american saying I was surprised to see you write that. Great design by the way. Is that bread a form of "fruit cake " looks like it just less dense.

Garry - What ws curts profile name ? Why did he leave ? Does flip just have the flu or something worse ?

Prayer request - One of my friends fell and fractured his hip and is in the hospital. Another friend is getting some test run and they believe his cancer may have returned.

Whistling

Morning Crew,

Chloe,my Dear, when time permits I'll have a blueberry bagel and a HC, please and thanks.

Well, I have just discovered a new alphabet, of course it is a spoof, but it made me think of a lot of us this past while and the ills we have had to endure..  enjoy and I hope you get a morning chuckle out of it.

Subject: Fwd: The New Alphabet

A is for apple, and B is for boat, That used to be right, but now it won't
float! Â Age before beauty is what we once said, But let's be a bit more
 realistic instead.

 The New Alphabet is:

A's for arthritis; B's the bad back, C's the chest pains, perhaps
 car-di-ac?

D is for dental decay and decline, E is for eyesight, can't read that top
line! F is for farting and fluid retention, G is for gut droop, which I'd
 rather not mention.

H high blood pressure--I'd rather it low; I for incisions with scars you
can show. J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend, K is for knees that
crack when they bend. L 's for libido, what happened to sex? M is for
 memory, I forget what comes next. N is neuralgia, in nerves way down low;
O is for osteo, bones that don't grow!

P for prescriptions, I have quite a few, just give me a pill and I'll be
good as new! Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu? R is for reflux, one
 meal turns to two.

S is for sleepless nights, counting my fears, T is for Tinnitus; bells in
my ears! U is for urinary; troubles with flow; V for vertigo, that's
 'dizzy,' you know..
 Â
W for worry, now what's going 'round? X is for X ray, and what might be
found. Y for another year I'm left here behind, Z is for zest I still
 have-- in my mind!

 Â
I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed, And I'm keeping
 twenty-six doctors fully employed!

 HAVE A GREAT DAY !
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Now on a much more serious matter, We just received a call from Hawaii where two BILs and their Wives were vacationing. My one BIL had a massive coronary and passed on last evening. That has certainly dampened the spirit around here today.    All for now...............

Johnboy out.........................till later

I forgot to mention that the interchange track can be used as a lead to a detachable staging yard. This could be a cassette, or even a small three or 4 track traverser.

Galaxy - I had not bought that Minitrix starter set and the loco, I´d certainly go for that little layout, but it´s too late now. Petra has no objection to the big one, so I will start on that. I hope to have the benchwork up soon.

I liked the layout Ulrich, no problem with it.

I been thinking about the MR Red Oak and my dad's Santa Fe Kansas Howard Branch again. I was thinking about keeping the staging yard. But the branch itself had only one diesel in either direction. I'm trying to merge three track plans together to see if they'll work.

Ulrich:

That is a nice little layout, about maybe what I am hoping to put in Z scale under-the-bed box!

Why don't YOU build something like it to keep in the game???
It would satisfy you and stay out of Petra's way too much.

Consider it!

Good Afternoon!

No HD list this morning, so I used the time to draw up a track plan for Jim (up831). It´s a small 2 by 4 N scale layout - just something to play with. As requested, it sports a grain elevator, a lumber yard and a warehouse, all serviced by rail. I used a scenic divider to disguise the sharp curves a little and two allow for two different sets of scenery. The scenic divider also helps to get rid of the smallish look of such a tiny layout, at least when you build it at close to eye level. The layout depicts a shortline, somewhere west of Chicago. I took the liberty to pick the location, as up831 did not mention any setting. Well, enough words - here is the layout:

Ta da!

A 2 by 4 is not a lot of real estate - even in N scale! Mind you, it is much less than a 4 by 8 in HO scale! So don´t expect miracles. With that size, you´ll have to live with tight curves (min. radius is 9 3/4" ) and #4 switches, limiting you to 4-axle Diesels and 40´ cars.

Heck, if I hadn´t gone into modeling German prototype, I´d go for this one! Lots of action for such a tiny layout!

Hope you like it, Jim!

We have some leftover "Königskuchen" Petra made the other day - help yourself and enjoy!

Good morning .

YGW .... Our trip to FL was just a vacation for the 2 of us to relax together away from everything else. So there was no train activity except I met a model railroad friend for coffee I met here in the Diner (Curt). He no longer posts here but does post across the street. I was going to meet Flip, too, but he was sick.

Ken ... I like the photos of the B&O coal trains. I like the shot where you can see inside the hoppers and get ideas for weathering the insides emply hoppers.

Galaxy ... I hope YOH feels better quickly. You, too, have problems with healh insurance costs as more and more people are having. I can't say more about that here.

I've been running trains on the layout since I got back. Love this hobby.

MOH nto doing so well this morning:

Could be a Migraine, a reaction to the meds or to the surgery site. There is still ever so slight discharge goin on, but MOH is only half concerned and is trying to rest now.

Has been up since 2:30 and tried to wake me {like trying to wake the dead, though the DC {darn cat} manages to wake me  with persistance.} but I didn't ge t up til 4:30.

If it get worse or MOH continues to not feel good, a trip to the hospital may just be in order.

A call to the Drs office when they open at 8 will help decide, unless MOH decides to go earlier. Is resting now.

The thing is, when MOH is "sick" {you know what I mean} I repeat the process as I have a very weak tummy. I do it when the cat brings up a hair ball, so weak is my tummy. AND after corrective surgery on my stomach/esophagus It is nearly impossible for me to do so. SO, I have trouble whne MOh is "sick". But I think that part is over nwo the coffee MOH drank is now "all gone'.

It could be teh meds MOh is on now too, a reaction to them.

The last thing we want or hope for is a reaction or contamination of the surgery site, most of which, like most proceedures today are buried inside with disolvable sutures and is not really "seeable".

So, Healing energies for MOH today and if we make a quick trip, we make a quick trip.

 Evening Dinners

Wake Up Flo! I will have a JSTL and a Beer. Give the Buick guy a Beer when he shows up.

While it was a slow day at work, it was not a bad day. I did not want to throw anything today so that was a big plus! Yes Odd thing did happen today at work. I Happen to look on a end table and saw a Tyco stock truck laying on it? I have no idea how I tracked that to work, I do not wear my Works Pants in the train room? Whistling

Train Front Good News, pain in the butt news and getting started news.

Pain in the butt news is my Blue Line RSD has lost sound again! Bang Head I tried to read the sound decoder with JMRI using my PR3. Would not read the sound decoder, kept getting error 308? Hope a wheel cleaing will take care of the error.

Good News and Pain in the butt news. Good part is I tested the amps pulled by my old PK2 E-6 B unit. Good low power pull so it will not eat a decoder. Pain in the butt part is it seems it was dropped / fell off the bench years ago. Looks like the only part I am missing is the front U Joint, explains why it was slow last time I ran it. I think a old Blue Box U Joint will fix the problem.

Getting Started news. I started on Jeffreys last box car last night. It is a round house 50' AAR Wabash Boxcar. I hope to have it rolling in a few days. Then I need to find L&A stickers for it.

Douglas I have sent you a PM. Sweet looking machine if I found the right link.

 Latter, Ken

Mint tea, please.

***Galaxy, very sorry to hear what is going on. Dang!

Been piddling with the first piece of a circus parade.

As for the layout, think I will tear it all up, trying to cut out and save the scenes I want to re-set on the new layout. Going to measure the train room and share dimensions with door locations, etc., and hopefully one of you can brainstorm and suggest some benchwork to maximize the usable space!?!?! More on this soon.

Healing thoughts to those in need.

Garry - No offense taken. That phony just gets my blood BOILING. How was your trip ? Did you get to visit any layouts or LHS ?

Jermey - that does sound small. Many people show up ?

Douglas - We have not bought yet BUT for the first time we BOTH like what we see ! That is a major accomplishment. Now to just arrange to see it !

Uncle Bob - Oh, Okay. If I may offer some advice having had that surgery twice.

Take the knock out option. As soon as you can go GET THE PAIN meds and go straight home and get as comfortable as you can and TAKE pain meds. The after surgery discomfort is moderate to moderatly tough. So you will wnt to take the meds before the docs pain wears off. Otherwise trying to catch up with pain meds is not possible. Have someone who can be with you for the next day or so. You will need some assistance.

Gotta run. MOH is home with Groceries Big Smile

There is are annual train show a town over today but dont think I will be going as it has turned into more of a toy show then train show and where they have it is a little too small so it gets crouded in a hurry ( two large rooms connected by a small hallway) I am going over to my parents for dinner so will be watching the packers game there.

Uncle B. - torn miniscus. Had that surgery years ago. Did you elect to get knocked out or just numbed from the waste down ?  Boy talk about pain when the numb stuff wears off Surprise

YGW, I haven't had the knee surgery yet.  I assume they'll knock me all the way out, especially since I don't want to know what they're doing.  My pre-op appointment is Wed, so I'll know more then.

Uncle bob: I will add you to the "sick bay list" for healing energies and positive thoughts your way in yur hour of need.

MY shoulder surgery is March 4th, so I, too will be a "wounded puppy".

Take care and follow Drs. instructions, and do your PT, and you should come out fine.

Good morning ...

Douglas ... Thanks for the welcome back.

YGW ... I could talk about THAT topic extensively, but not here. I hope you know I am not trying to pick on you. Just don't want Vinnie to be mad at you.

Ulrich ... Glad to hear your favorable news about your next layout. It will be fun to build. I like the Rhine River photo. Every year about this time we talk about going to Europe again, but somehow we never do it.

Happy model railroading, everybody.

Good Morning!

Flo - my usual Sunday fare, please!

Did I write "Petra and I occupy the 2nd floor"? Well, it´s half of that! Our next door neighbor is a young couple with a newborn. Cute little baby, but quite noisy Big Smile

Johnboy and Garry - thanks for the comments and suggestions on that layout. With the changes I made, I am now in a position to go for it. All I still need is a few lengths of flex track and I will have all the track to build it.

Johnboy - I´d like to hide those sharp curves completely. Minitrix R1 curves have a radius of less than 8", which works fine with the truck mounted couplers European stock has, but just looks silly. To give you an impression of the type of scenery I am going for - here is a pic of the Rhine Valley:

The track really scrapes along the cliffs of the valley.

I think I´ll be fine with this layout. It´ll be a long journey to come anywhere near completion, but that´s OK. I hope to be able to run the inaugural train by summer, meaning all track is laid & wired.

Galaxy - hang in there!

Make it a wonderful day!
