 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

YGW Only my hand hurts just a little bit when I push on it. Far as send the Furances guy Christmass Cards, never have. You need to remember here in the Midwest we have a very low cost of living. If my house was in Calf, it would be $550,000 plus. Here in Maryville, it is only $136,000.

Did some running today. Picked up more med's for Sparkie The Rocket Dog and some new dog food that is easier on the stomach. He does to seem to feel much better.

Sams Club, anyone here a member? I had been a member two other times, last time was around 10 years ago. At that time I had a good income. They built a new one not far from home and we got a free 1 month member ship. Main thing I am intrested in is food iteams. They did have chicken thighs for $1.29 a pound where Shop and Save has them for $1.99. I bought 6 pounds so I saved apx $4.50.

I did not see any big savings in other meats. But I had not record lately what I have been paying per pound either. If you are a member, which member ship do you have. One is $35.00 a year and the other one is $100.00 a year and you get cash back.

 See you Wed, Ken

Good Eveneing!

Today is one of these days we better want to forget.

It started out that I got wet feet when going into the bathroom this morning. Our electric water heater had sprung a leak and the water came gushing out of it. A cry and a big leap to the shut-off valve resulted in a move, in which I must have pulled a muscle in my neck. I now have a terrific headache to battle. Adding to that, moments before the plumber came to install a new water heater (at the landlord´s expense), the pipe from the sink failed as well. So most of the day we were without water, which meant no coffee, no cooked meal. While the plumber was doing the repairs, the phone rang and I had to go through a 90 minute job interview for the position of an interim manager. I have no idea how I did in this - I´ll just have to wait and see.

Frankly, I have had it for today! I will just sit on the sofa, watch the idiot box and dream of that little layout I´ll be building.

CU tomorrow!

Prayers for Jeff!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special this morning.  Over easy eggs, bacon, home fries and a double order of sourdough toast and a pot of Seneca lake Blend dark roast coffee!  Thank you Ma'am....

Galaxy, your quote of the day is very true.  My sister in Canandaigua was (and is) one who always wanted me to do "My own thing" which meant I should be doing exactly what all the other people who are "Doing their Own Thing" were (are) doing just as long as it isn't what the older generation was doing....  Or something like that.  She still gets her eyes rolling when I don't wear the latest fads in styles.  Go to all the same type of events that she goes to, etc.  I still prefer to be me....  Most of the time I like me just the way I am.  That doesn't mean everyone else likes me that way of course.....  Actually that person that is me does get along with almost everyone.  I guess.... Smile, Wink & Grin

Sun is trying to shine here in the Finger Lakes Region this morning.  Will have to open up the house very soon.  Current temperature is 75°F outside, pretty much the high for today.

I should get some lawn mowed this afternoon.  have a Pack Den meeting to go to tonight.....

Have a great one folks!

P.S. I forgot the quotable quote this monring, I was in such a hurry:

To be nobody but myself -- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.

Todd - Consider yourself lucky with the induction motor. I had a new furnace installed in 2000. So far the induction motor has been replaced 3 times. Once the plastic fan itself blew apart. That noise left no doubt there was a problem. Thought a bomb went off in the cellar. A few weeks ago the motor was screaming like it was in pain. I figured here we go again with another new motor. But the repairman put a couple of drops of oil on the shaft & spun it manually a few times, & presto, problem solved. I got away with just a service call for that part. But the furnace still needed a filter & a water panel. It just keeps adding up. But your right, any savings on my gas bill were eaten up with the replacement of the first motor. By the way, I think I had to pay more than $300.00 for mine. What's your BIL's number & how far will he drive? Smile, Wink & Grin

Todd; Tom:

Todd: You  got off lucky.

You may or may not remember that 3 winters ago we had a whole new furnace...just the regular "80% efficiency" kind, installed. Well, half can be faulted back to the installer, who did NOT seal the chimney right to the roof when putting the new furnace in.BUT:

after paying a whole $3,600 for the new one {remember mobile home, so cheaper and smaller than whole house}, the stupid clear BATHROOM caulk he used to "seal" the chimney to the steel roof {YEP, Bathroom caulk!} leaked. I ranted enough about it, I was so..um er, ah angry!

AND so. It cost us $1,025 for a new: pressure switch, induced draft motor and igniter!

SO: Todd you got off CHEAP at the $300 alone, let alone FREE!

TOM: I wouldn't be surprised if we don't have the same problem over again, even though the roof IS NOW SEALED properly! WHY? you ask? because our induced draft moter is vertical of course, and my father found out that the vertical fan motors of any type/purpose in HVAC equipment tends to go BAD sooner than later. That is apparently why the new fan motors on these newfangled "ventless systems" have theirs horizontally insted of blowing up vertically. SO, I suspect and expect that ours will go bad again. sooner than I'd like.

My father found out his new blower motor was about half the cost of a whole new furnace, so he thought, and at that cost with the age of his at 10 yrs old, he'd have had a whole new installed as that plus the new igniter for his a year earlier added up.

My FIL just had a new whole new house system put in for +300 sq ft over my father's, it was nearly $10k for the furnace, to install it. MY father then, upon hearing that, decided maybe the $2,800 for his fan blower motor wasn't so bad after all!

Now, mind you there are two things about the fan motors on the A/C exterior unit {blows upward, vertical on my fathers} he found out: 1} they DO go bad quicker for the vertical ones  2} there is a capacitor that is attached to it, THAT is usually the first thing to go, and costs only about $20 to replace! YET, most "fix it places" will tell you "you need to replace it {the whole thing}" for the A/c exterior unit.

Well, in other news: I got my flu shot now for the rest of the week, I will be feeling like I got it. Never fails, I don't care what you say about "not getting the flu from the shot".

Got the pics back of me in my kilt.Since I am nto in the habit of posting them, don't know if i will or not, Photobucket seems like a lot of trouble! Besides no one wants to see my fat belly tucked in to a kilt! SHowed  them off to a couple of people who wanted to see, but never were around when I was wearing it/them.

well, I wil rest most of the day. I did to much this weekend, and now i pay for it.

later.

Jeffrey will answer your PM. Hope you are feeling well today and out of pain.

well, better go lay down with the puddy tat. Got some pics of him too. he will curl up on top of me {yep on top of me} or curl into my back beside me.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a breakfast burrito please. Extra cheese thank you.

Rainy but nice temp.

Terry- Nice video. Kinda fishy eyed thoughHmm. Say, that tree that shows up around the fifty second mark on the right. Was that purposely modelled to look like a giant Bigfoot or just the way it appears in the video. I hope you say it was….funnyYes Laugh.

Waiting for my BIL to call. The draft inducing fan on the furnacewent to squalling a couple weeks ago and, like any good person, I waited awhile to see if it would fix itself or at least quit the squallingWhistling. Well it didn’t. Just got worse until the wife said something. I didn’t really think it would but hey, worth a shot you know. So, looked up the part and choked at around $300. I said well, that just about takes all the energy savings it has allegedly saved over the last 20 years. Should have stuck with the regular oneGrumpy. Anywho, for some reason I just said poo and called the BIL to work it in his schedule and fix the blame thing yesterday. Good thing I did. He said they cost a lot but he takes them out of old furnaces he replaces (good ones that is) and he’ll just let me have one at a family price of $0.00. Sometimes having a relative who owns a HVAC company comes in handy. And as per tradition, the fan has quieted down and you hardly hear it now. Probably will be as quiet as a new one by the time he gets here.  (EDIT) Nope…sounds like someone’s in the basement running a jigsawHuh?.

IN the meantime, I guess I’ll retreat to the basement and remove more spiderwebs and crickets. My gosh this is the worst it’s ever been. The laundry and mechanical room as well as the trainroom, look like a couple rooms from the Munsters. I told Brenda just imagine what above the drop ceiling looks like.....IndifferentShe didn't appreciate that thought. There've been some real whoppers smashed down there. Even outside I’ve never seen so many spiders. I think they’re fixin to take over the world. Buddy of mine says I can’t have many crickets at my place ‘cause every cricket in the world is in HIS basement.

Gotta make the Church deposit to the bank due to Columbus Day yesterday (still have no idea why we celebrate that) then back to the waiting game.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

With the overnight storms, will be too wet and muddy to do any outside work on the ol' farm, so a day of rest is in order.

Hope everyone is doing well.

GOOD TUESDAY MORNING

October 14th, 2014!

Healing and prosperity

candles are lit!

I couldn't get online yesterday, something was amiss. IF I DID get online, it locked up on me! I called TWC and they reset the modem, I reset the modem, I unplugged the modem, I cursed at the modem, I banged on the modem, nothing seemed to work! Now this AM it works fine! {I think?}. You'd think as many times as I call lately with problems with it, and the $5/mo I spend RENTING their modem, they'd come out and replace it, at their expense! But, no, not yet! They got their money for the cost of the modem out of me 3 years ago. You'd THINK, since the cable box went the way of the DODO bird and they sent  guy out to replace that {"oh, we dont use that box anymore" {then why didn't they do a recall}, that they'd have HIM replace the modem whilest he was here,as we complained about it too! But ...not yet...maybe I march it into them and DEMAND A replacement. Harumph!

Jeffrey,,,I will be sending you a PM!

well, I have to get to the Drs. to get flu shot and do blood work for the cardiologist I forgot to do a month ago! I hope it's nto a starving one....

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

 Flo, Beer Please.

YGW Yes, he has all wise been fair in his prices. He has been taken care of this house before we bought 20 years ago. Owners before us had is phone number on the furances when we bought the house. Best part of this month has been his modest bill, this month has sucked caboose!

Speaking Of Caboose Sucking, Today At Work Was Terrable! High Lite of the day was tripping and falling flat on my faces! We have a section at the St Charles store called the Kids Room. Room is around 8,000 SQ Feet and only one pole lamp is left on at night. So in the moring it is dark and clutter from all the toys small kid chairs which the kids mover all around! Well, there was a Floor Game Rocking Chair in a shadow by the breaker box! Guess what I tripped over? Whistling Left knee, elbow and right hand are starting to get stiff now.

Janie, could I get a refill for my decaf please?

I did get to spend a bit of time this afternoon and evening working on the railroad....  Now have most of the new roof on the Dairy Building and ahve started to get some lighting ready to install.  I will be making a roof over the doors where farmers will be dropping off and picking up milk cans.  There will be lighting under the roof as well.  Hopefully it will end up being a good kit bash for the layout...

Have a great evening.  Oh, hope you had a great "Lost Explorer Day"!

Evenin' folks!

This is the third time I have tried to get on here today...  Something always seems to come up requiring my attention.  Saturday a friend of mine, a lady who is a member of the MLK committee and who lives only two blocks away from me, stopped in to ask a favor.  Seems that their church (A Full Gospel Baptist Church) has a yearly anniversary service and party.  Their tradition is to ask members to donate in memory of someone or to honor someone in the amount of the number of years the church has been in the community.  They have an envelope for that purpose.  The person who was supposed to print up this years envelope didn't get it done, so the lady was hoping I could run these off for the church.  I have done similar projects for a Scholarship Fund at Howard University in her daughter's name and a couple other Scholarship things the lady is involved with.

Since this is a lady who has done wonderflul things for the community over many, many years helping a lot of kids to make themselves better lives, I taught her kids way back when, and has become a good friend (and is always quick to help me with checking materials going out from the MLK Committee), I, of course, told her I would be glad to get these done for her.  I got to the project today, and it took me all of about 15 minutes to set up the page in InDesign.  Printed off one envelope to make sure it looked good and sent her an email.  Had to run out to the Propane Dealer to get a couple 20 lb. bottles filled and came back home.  No sooner got in the house than the doorbell rang.  It was the lady...  Her computer is not working so she just decided to stop by to see how I was doing with it.  She liked it so I told her I would print it while she waited.  After about 10 envelopes she asked me if I like BBQ Ribs....  I told her, absolutely!  Her son was BBQing ribs for a "Lost Explorer party" at her house so she left and came back about an hour later with a large portion of Ribs, Chicken, and Sweet Corn...  Yum!  Smile, Wink & Grin  Had a great supper, I did!  She got the envelopes printed and I got a great dinner.  FYI, I think two of her 3 kids were winners of MLK Scholarships.

I did get to work a bit on the Dairy project today.  Intend to do more soon...  May even have a couple photos to show.

Jeffrey, good to hear you are already heading out to the Rehab Horsepiddle...  Was that the one with the good food or the........?  Hope you get a strong enough signal to be online often!  Good luck and know you are in my prayers!

Later...

that's the one. I piggybacked a signal from next door. Reception quality depended on what side of the building I was on.

Ulrich - What now that the order has been canceled ? What do you think you will switch to ?

YGW - I ordered it from a different source, where it was still on stock. Trix does not manufacture it anylonger - no wonder, they must have been losing a lot of money on it. The set price is about 35% of the price of the individual components.

Yougottawanta asked:

Mr. Beasly - love the picture of the wife carry - how did that event start ? I never knew people actually did this !

Apparantly, this sport originated in Finland.  Sunday River ski resort in Maine has been doing this for 15 years.  They now host the North American championship, and the winner qualifies for the World Championship to be held in Finland.  "Qualification" for the Maine event involves being one of the first 30 couples to sign up.  A team does not have to be married, but must be one male and one female, and both must be over 21.

Annie has always wanted to try this.  This year, her boyfriend was up for it so they signed up.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Garry - Been out of the loop here lately ( work is firing on all cylenders about to throw it into overdrive ) can you update me on Jeffs condition? I will check back in later.

Jeff if you are able to read this I have already lifted you up in Angel.

Ulrich - What now that the order has been canceled ? What do you think you will switch to ?

Terry - watched most of your video- pretty neat

Mr. Beasly - love the picture of the wife carry - how did that event start ? I never knew people actually did this !

Tmarsh - Thanks and keep the prayers coming please

Ken - Wow that guy cut you a break. Around here they charge $150 just to get in the truck and then they charge by the qaurter hour plus outrage upcharges on the equipment. My last furnace trip coast $300 and they diagnosed teh problem wrong !

Galxy - loved the Audrey Hepburn qoute. Always like her. John Lennon qoute - everyone is entitled to there opinion. I just find his offensive. But that is America. I wished all could be as tolerant as others. Some of the tolerant crowd are very intolerant- generally speaking.

train front - Bought more from an estate from a member of the James River division member. Purchased a 2664,2-2882, two Js, two Ms,482, dynometer car and later this week will receive 15 broadway limited hoppers. Spent Way TO MUCH but this is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity and it is going to help pay for the NMRA members nursing fees which are 8k a month.

My daughter goes back in on the 24th for her MRI reads ( please pray for no major issues ) and tomorrow she gets fitted for her hearing aid. All else is good. We are hunting for a bigger house hopefully one with a BIG bsmnt for the future N&W extension and married life is good.

Good Afternoon!

Got the message, that my order of that Minitrix starter set has been shipped - hooray! Should be with me by Wednesday.

I started a dialogue with that Swiss model railroading pal of mine. I mailed him my preliminary idea of the layout and he came bck with a few great ideas, which I now have to w*rk into the plan. I will also shorten it by 8", as I still have a HCD in my attic, which I plan to use. Makes building the benchwork a lot easier and, which is more important - cheaper!

Otherwise - no news, which is good news in my case!

Jeff - I hope you are on the road to improvement. Continuing Angel

Make it a great day!

OOOOOuch....  Ooooh...  Uh, Man do I hurt!

Evenin folks!  (He says limping iover to the nearest empty table and sitting down with a noticable thud...)

Janie, just a cup of hot chocolate please.....

Oh man!  What a day out at the museum.  we were all run ragged.  Our average run today was close to 50 people per run.  The largest r8un was 61 passenegers on board.  They say they can only fit 60 passengers on the trolly...  They got 61 on there today.  The last run was 6 people and that was the only run under 37 passengers!  I didn't even get a lunch break.  On the other hand a day like today really helps to pay the bills out there, but my back is crying out in pain at the moment.  Our first trip had 57 people on board most of which were eldery handicapted people.  About 8 had walkers they were trying to navigate over the ballast rocks to get to the cabooses.  We got them on board but ended up about 10+ minutes late on the next run.  Took us all afternoon to get back on schedule, and I was not a help as with the crowds getting everything set on nthe cdabbose so we could make the trips was a problem to say the least.  Went from the Assisted living folks to lots and lots of kids who didn't want to behave well.  Interesting day to say the least!

I sympasize with you RAY!

After two days of moving furniture, fishtank, installing the filing cabinets {two file drawers, one "supplies short drawer"}, and sort/shredding/filing IPs {Important Papers}, with a LOT of writing and a LOT of sitdown, stand up, squatting to file in bottom drawer, I got quite a workout myself! My thighs are sore, my back {naturally}, my neck is sore, I had my right shoulder jsut seething with pain...I should do this more often!

Not bad compaerd to what Jeffrey is dealing with! GO, Jeffrey!

There is still some shredding/filing to do still.

Since today is a holiday, I will wait til tomorrow to go to the goodwill or Sally house store to drop off clothing we no longer wear.

Most of our weather calls for rains almost every single day this week here. In the 60's some days near 70s, some nearer to 50s.

*MAKe it a Great one*

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
