Happy October everybody.
Wow! Look at all the Diners here today!
In Michigan it is a family trading for lots of people to visit an apple cider mill for cider and doughnuts. We did that many times when we lived there.
Ulrich... Perhaps you could help us have an October Fest.

Well,
~AS MOH's ministerial assistant, I just finished up with the simple basic wedding vows for the couple on the 20th. Plus some options to pick from. The couple wants just a simple basic and quick ceremony,as they are very nervous. I talked with one party today to be sure of the minor details. I assured them we were just as nervous, not only the first time, but at the second renewal of vows ceremony, though it go "smoother" the second time. I assured, Most everybody is all nervous. They will have a small wedding party, witnesses, few friends and a family member, and a lunch/dinner afterwords at a local restaurant, we are invited.
~MOH will go over what I have done later when up, as took a day off-a sick day off. Two clients also are out sick this week, there will be a sick day's pay for today, but we will still be short hours this week. MOH has more sick days than vacation days as they took some vacation days away as "provided, but not yet earned" or some crap like that, so now they are "prorated" or something, meaning LESS. WIll use those for around the holidays to get an extra day or two off for TG and XMAS!.
~The sick time is "use it or loose it," too...and has 9+ days of it. Hate to use it all now, as the injection the bone specialist wnats is "under review" bythe bloody insurance company. We don't know what is taking so long? They DID reimburse us for the MRI for the bone disease,so why NOT APPROVE the treatment for it??????
~ well, I am resting up micely too. Though I didn't sleep much last night, nor today. MOH wants quiet resting, but the phone has rung 10, no 11 times today of course, naturally, of course. MOh will try to work tomorrow, and take friday as a sick day.
~Yes, YGW, it takes time to break in all "new partners" in life. You can try and "mold" your children {until they exert free will and search for independence}, but it will take you at least a year {remember?} to get used to each other's foibles! I am not sure that after going on 15 years now,and after two ceremonies, that WE have each other's foibles and nuances down pat yet! I/we still struggle sometimes to see who comes out on top and plants their flag high on the hill! Remember, though, "happy WIFE, happy LIFE"...you gotta give if you expect to take sometimes....
~well, i am not sure what dinner will be, i'd be happy with just some soup, but not MOH! {SEE? a foible just popped up!! at least it's one that i know!}
have a great night all

Afternoon folks!
I CAN HEAR AGAIN!!! Ahem... Sorry for yelling. Went over to hearing center early this afternoon and the gentleman who does repairs and resets the equipment (His is the son of the original owner who was a very good friend of my late wife when they both worked for an allergist here) and he found out the both hearing aidfs were plugged up with ear wax that had gotten past the wax screens they have. The left one (my good ear...) was completely plugged! That would be why I was having so much trouble hearing people.
Came home and did some wash. Got to spend a bit of time in the train rooms while that was happening. In fact I will be going back down there to finish the second load just as soon as I hit "Submit Your Reply". I have a District Roundtable complete with our monthly Commissioners Meeting this evening. Got an email this morning from a lady who used to be the District Commissioner asking me if I can give her a ride to the Roundtable from work this evening. It is on my way and I enjoy the lady so I did say, "Honored to be your chauffeur"... She will bum a ride with one of the others who live down where she does to get home I guess.
Just got another email from Scouts... This time it is about a lady who worked for the old Council for many, many years. Yesterday her brother found her dead at home, sitting in her chair. No particulars yet, but a couple of people who worked with her and were very close to her are taking this hard. I would guess that she was in her late 70's. Very nice lady and hard worker!
Mr. V8... I have been using canvas bags for my grocery shopping for over 30 years. Same bags I might add. My late wife was the one that got us started with it way back then. I often tell the kids doing check out at the store that those bags are older than they are! If you put your brain in gear when you go shopping, you just learn to grab the canvas bags and take them with you. It isn't a big deal, and yes shoppers should be charged even more than that when they don't bring their own bags. Personally I don't like the idea of putting my food in crap made from Dinosaur Dung! The canvas bags get put in a load of wash now and then and then used and used and used.... I'm hoping that NYS will follow the lead and do the same thing. Both of the major supermarket chains here have canvas bags for sale with their adverising on them for $1. OK, Vinnie, I'm off the soapbox!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Looking at the plan I just realized that the designated staging area could be easily developed into a freight yard and both curbes could also be scenicked at a later stage. This would give the layout 4 different "faces". I´ll b e putting THAT on paper!
I´ll be calling it a day in a few moments - have a good night!
CU tomorrow!

Good afternoon. It's 85° with 73% humidity. Just moving around out there makes me sweat. I'll be staying inside where it's much cooler. The high will be 85°. Cloudy with a fair chance of rain. with Looks like I'll be retiring the Dodge RAM before November. Work on the Chevy G20 is going quickly. My nephew estimates it'll be ready around the end of the month. I'm not a Chevy man but it is at least a lot newer and safer than what I'm driving now. The RAM is making creaking and banging noises that I'm not comfortable with. I keep expecting the bottom to fall out of it.

Johnboy - LOL House breaking ? hmm I am not sure who is getting house broking in this case ! I think maybe I am getting the short end of that stick
Jeff - Is this the same nephew who threatened you and was put on his keester ?
Vincent - Oh, I think I will eventually end up doing some of the same. Makes sense. I thought maybe you were getting out. What is your final goal ?
Ulrich - Well that looks really great !

Just spent a leisurely 45 minutes in front of the idiot box, watching a feature about the Myanmar Railways. I was horrified to see how fast the trains go, considering the bad shape the track is in.
Just a short comment on the plan - each building has the correct footprint (and part #)! I am not making the same mistake twice ...
Johnboy - I sent you a PM.

YGW, New Brides take up a lot of time and House Breaking, Lol
You won't get to the train room any time soon, I don't think.

Vincent, YGW - I am using an old version of WinRail, also known as Atlas RTS (no longer available for download from their website). It is a very basic track planning program, but I have learned how to employ the drawing functions to create structures etc. I really enjoy adding detail to a simple track plan - it helps me to imagine how the layout could look like.
yougottawantaJeff - once you get the chevy running wht are you doing with the old dodge ? Up here there are people who will give you $300 to take the vehicle and turn it in for scrap.
YGW, Selling because the stuff either doesn't fit my era, I don't want it, and I could use the space.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
KIETH
Havent been in for a while so missed your question in Sept post. Are you asking about wiring or mountain building ? No offense meant.
Lion - Can Lions see in color ? In this area October truns from green to many colors, red, yellow, orange etc...depending on the tree.
Ulrich - Wht are you using to produce those drawings they look just like the MMR drawings in the magazine ?
Vincent - why are you selling your stuff ?
Galaxy - They call Walmart in NY wally world too ?
Kieth - wht are you holding in your picture ?
Tom - Nice picture
Jeff - once you get the chevy running wht are you doing with the old dodge ? Up here there are people who will give you $300 to take the vehicle and turn it in for scrap.
Home front - daughter went to hearing doc. Turns out she has moderate hearing loss in one ear. All this time I thought she was ignoring me about chores ! Friday she is going to see a back sawbones for persistant back pain. W**K front is getting busier. Starting foundations now. MRR - Front is dead in water for now except for research and reading but missions will soon be over at church and unpacking of new bride I hope will be done this weekend and then MAYBE I will have some time to MRR Gotta get back to w**k
Good afternoon diners,
It's the first day of the month. In October? Just kidding, I knew. Trying to make a joke.

Morning guys
Well the Comissary job ended yesterday. I wish I could stay, but I talked to the supervisors and they said I had to go through the red tape again (it took months last time). But one said they were looking to see if they could keep us because we did better work than some of the permanent people. I'm suprised a lot of people seemed pretty upset I was leaving. I'm reapply and calling the HR deparment for the company, hopefully something opens up.
But for now I'm going to my fall-back job, but there was some miscommunitcation with the scedule and I wound up being off till Tuesday. But then they said they would call me when they needed people. That lasted a few hours, lol. So I start back up Sunday; but on night shift???
In train news, that modifaction to the couplers on my Kato Superliners seems to have worked beautifully. 0 uncouplings since I've done it. All I did was file a notch into the back side of the knuckle of the coupler so the lock together. The way they were before, the inside of the knuckle was almost parallel to the end of the car. Now they "hook" together like Kadees. I'm still gonna try body mounting Kadee longshank couplers on them, but I'll make it so I can take them off if it doesn't work as well as the modified Kato mechanism.
I also ordered a long-awaited Bowser C636. Wierd the site I bought it from said Tsunami Sound, but Bowser's page says Loksound. Ever since my Kobo F40PH I have been sold on loksound. I just wish I could figure out how to remap the functions on the thing. I want to swap F7 with F17; I don't really see switching mode being useful on these and I am curious to what the brake-set/release function does. The site also had one of the SOO color mark Fox Valley boxcars I wanted, so I tacked that in.
So far I've spent the day figuring out what stuff I want to sell. So far I am up to a P1K F3 in CNW, a P1K SP 100-ton hopper, an Athearn RTR L&N 50' boxcar, a Con-cor B&O 100-ton hopper (Ken, do you still want this car?), an Athearn BB RF&P 50' box (lightly weathered), an Athearn ONR 40' box (weathered), An Athearn BB MKT PS covered hopper (heavily weathered), Athearn BB ERES (Eries Western) PS covered hopper, an Athearn BB NYC ACF hopper (heavily weathered), and a modified Athearn BB CB&Q 50' box.
I'm on the fence about selling my AHM Pacific in CNW. It acutally runs well and I added quite a bit of weight to it, along with adding a 9-pin plug for it in the tender. The DH123 in it fried, but I have those lokpilot decoder that would be a good fit for it, I'd just have to hard-wire it in.
Ulrich, what software are you using for layout planning? I came up with a track plan I like for my switching layout, but I want to try the program you are using so I can post it (and hopefully get some suggestions).
Tom, If I recall right, on the some of ex-BN SD40-2 CITX got, they just painted the grey over the BN green. The nose stripes even stayed. my favore CITX unit is 3093, but in it's previous life.
Good Afternoon!
Zalking of warm weather - we have currently temps in the region of 20°C, which is most unusual for us. Kind of enjoy it, though. The augurs predict a cold and long winter, starting end of this month, with lots of that white stuff coming down. Better to enjoy the sun while it lasts!
I spent the better part of the day putting some of my thoughts on virtual paper, just to see whether it´ll fit. It´s a small (only 2´2" by 4´10") layout, depicting a typical German urban scene. Operation is limited to running trains, up to 5 of them (not all at the same time, though), but that´s what I want. Era is set at today´s time, i.e. modern image. With the exception of that curved turnout, most of the track is covered by the starter set. All I need to add is a couple of lengths of flex track.
Nothing decided yet - it´s just an option.
I hope patronage to the diner will be up this month. September has been quite slow - even the regulars didn´t show up that frequently.
Janie, I am in a spending mood - here is my CC, put everything the guys are ordering on it!
here it is October, Like I said. First Quarter of the new moon, too. Another first quarter for the night before hollerween night. I DON'T "DO" hollerween for a long time now. We keep inside, go to bed even earlier and keep the outside auto-light OFF. We DO usually have sort of candy around for US, so if some paratrooper or ghostly gobblin DIDN'T get the HINT, we DO have something to give away.
I went to the Wally world for Puffs, cough drops and nighttime cold relief for moh and i. bought a few other things too, don't knwo how I do it, but I always end up spending more than I bargained for! Hten went on to the grocery store. got 70 cents off gas now. will use for my next fillup. Had an extra coupon in the sunday papers for an extra $0.40 off if you spent a hundred dollars, did that and then some. We will be having differnet dinenrs this week: Venison sausage {hope it tastes good!} and some Bison, along wiht the usual BEEF moh insists on having.
Teeth: I had the doctor fill off the upper tooth in back at the angle at which it broke as it was close to the nerve and broke off before quickly when he "built it out" to a full square tooth {molar}. It is now bohtering me again. It will probably need to be pulled. goody another one lost. Mainly due to the meds I am on.
PT: will have to calll later to get that set up for nex tweek.
Fill out a form and go buy some pants a size larger than now that Will FIT, at CAsual Male XL, the big and tall store here..the only one in fact, without going to Syracuse. The Psychiatrist was right, i did gain about 14 lbs after loosing 10. I will have to tell him friday that I cannot afford to gain any mroe weight and if I do, i will have to stop the med. I may have to stop the med anyway if it is no longer covered for me.
Health insurance, MOH has a meeting the 15th or 16th whichever you can attend, about their High $2,600 deductible so called "health plan" that doesn't cover much! It is way to early for "new renewal or adjustments" -that happens May 1st of the year-so we wonder what is up? scary! Unless they want to get it o the yearly calendar instead of MAy 1st, it is scary! TAHT may cost us MORE too!
Runaway health costs are eating us up, we may be able to deduct off this years taxes! you have to deduct anything that comes AFTER the first 10% of AGI. we might some to take off over the 10%!
TIme to go makea rotisserie chicken salad sammy.
later dudes!
BlazzinI've had enough of warm weather.
It's Hump Day, so get on your camel and ride! Another damp, drizzly day here, and tomorrow will be more of the same. We may get one nice day out of the weekend, which is all I'm asking for.
What has happened to our Tuesday Night Hockey group? For the second week in a row, we were very short on skaters, which makes for a long night for us goalies. Too many breakaways and too many uncleared rebounds. I feel wasted this morning, but unlike with medications, this time I earned it.
I'm planning to lay down bit of plaster cloth, and after it dries I'll paint the foam where the track from the new bridge will fan out into the staging yard. I'm not putting roadbed down there. I'll just let it be a yard area. But, that doesn't mean it can be pink.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good morning. Coffee.. just coffee. After that I might order up breakfast. Fall? Fall colors? I see this time of year.. as .. Cleaning gutters.. making sure water runoff is good. Changing the filter to the furnance. Chilly mornings.. with spiders so cold.. they can no longer 'hang on' and hanging in front of the door ... as I walk out. I see Fall as me looking forward to the 'First Rain' we get oh.. about the middle of November. Holloween.. ThanksGiving Christmas.. Yule Tide. I'm looking forward to it.. I've had enough of warm weather.
TC all ~ Keith
Wow, October already. According to our calendar, it's going to be a busy month as well. I kind of consider it to be the start of the "train show season" for me with the big one at Timonium as the main feature. I'm determined to go this year and made our motel reservations about 2 weeks ago. There's another show I like in Ohio this coming weekend, but they are calling for rain, & their parking lot can become a swamp. So I might pass on that one. Too bad, as it is a decent show.
The furnace guy was here yesterday & I got away cheap. Turned out the induction motor did not need to be replaced. Big surprise there the way it was howling. A little oil on the shaft took care of the problem. However, I'm not confident in making it through the season without it failing. It has been replaced 3 times before, or approximately every 4 years. So it's a little overdue. I also had them replace the air filter & the water panel for the humidifier.
We will be going to our family Doctor this afternoon for our flu shots. We are very late in getting them this year, as I try to get them in early September. The only other time I remember getting them this late was because the supply was very limited and deliveries were not forthcoming.
Here's a couple of more photos from last Sunday. I really like the paint scheme on these CITX lease units.
I see these loads often on intermodals. The rack holding the trailers are loaded on spine cars the same as a container would be.
Stay safe & enjoy life...

galaxy jeffrey-wimberly My nephew was working on the Chevy van today. The alternator and the brake booster have been replaced. Tomorrow he's going to see if everything's tight then start it and see if he can get off the trailer without any major problems. That sounds good to me as I want to see it moving under it's own power. The sooner it's road ready the sooner the old RAM can be retired. Jeffrey: good to hear he's at least doing SOMETHING to help, finally. Maybe that "give the truck to Jeffrey" thing worked! Do you have anual inspections for "road worthiness" down there? You gonna drive it to the shop to do it or trailer it there? Now, the Q will still remain, though, as to when daddy/granddaddy is gone, WHO gets the TRUCK? {beside step mother/step G-ma}? Have a great night's rest! I'm not so far....

Good Morning!
October already? Gee, somehow my inner calendar must be running late!
It´s a nice day - lots of sun and comfortable temperatures. Fall is my season when it is like that. I like the fall colors so much.
The past few days I have been trying to sort out my own thoughts on a future model railroading project. As a result, I have discarded all previous ideas of a HOn3 layout, the European style narrow gauge layout or the rack and pinion railroad layout. I have to accept the fact, that I won´t be able to build the kind of layout which I would like to have. I am just too tight in terms of space and money to come anywhere near my dreams. But giving up on model railroading is beyond my imagination. I can´t picture myself building model ships or airplanes, collect stamps or just do plainly nothing. Model railroading has been an important part of my life. It helped me to keep my sanity in bad times, provided fun and entertainment, tickled my imagination and creativity and thus has been a good buddy in over 50 years. I know I need to do at least something. Building another shelf switcher for a layout or a diorama is not the answer, regardless of the scale. So what to do? I don´t know yet, but I keep on looking into various directions. Maybe the answer is in a smaller scale, although I am not really fond of them. This would at least solve my space issue, although even N scale is already to big. Should it be Z scale, then? Even smaller? I don´t know, but I must say that I am really intrigued by that little briefcase layout my friend Lothar built out of the leftovers I gave him. From a model railroader´s point of view the layout is a disaster - a folded figure 8 layout with a little station, no staging, hardly any serious operation other than letting a train circle the loop. Scenery is nice looking, but not really realistic. Bottle brush trees, grossly oversized street lamps - the whole thing reminds me of what we did in the 1960´s. But the thing is a briefcase loaded with fun. Not that I think building a briefcase layout is the answer, but what if I take up the idea and come up with something slightly bigger, but still portable? Something with a touch of more realism? OK, that Z scale stuff from Maerklin is quite expensive and US prototype stuff is hardly available, but the European stuff is available at every corner store and there is an abundance of used stuff to be found on the "bay"! More thinking to be done!
Adding to Galaxy´s wishes - make it a happy day!
