Galaxy ... Will you leave a trail of bread crumbs?

local news from here... State police arrested a suspect in the murders of four people. Most people in town suspected the guy who was arrested. A man in his thirties was charged in the murders of his mother, father, sister, and a non-family member. The suspect claimed the non-family member killed his family members and killed himself. The suspect claimed, the guy was about to kill him too, but "I turned the tables on him and he shot himself. ".    As if this story was not already fishy, the claimed suicide victim had multiple gunshot wounds which he died from.... Sad because the parents were very good well respected people, and the daughter was well educated with a good job in another state. .... The non family guy was somehow lured to the house by the killer. This really is a peaceful location, and this incident has devasted many people in town.

 Eveing Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Jeffery, Great to hear from you!Have you been fitted for the new leg again? Alien

Felt Pretty Good Today! I think I am sleeping better now finally! Shoulder is starting to feel better, Ibuprofeb seems to do the trick!

Train Front Made it over to my LHS K-10 and picked up some Kadee # 5 couplers, LED's and while I was there had a new plug installed on my DT 400. Clip had broke off and would not stayed pluged in unless I used a rubber band.

What Bob did not tell me was there good cripping tool was loaned out! Bang Head If he had, I would have told him to leave it alone. Now my DT 400 does not work, I get a error code. Called up and he said I need to resyc it with my layout, it is set up for there's now? Hmm Personally I think that is bull stuff! I have taken my throttle to there layout a few times and there was no problem with it working. Simmon all so has brought over his throttles as well and there was no problems with his working on my layout.

Luckly I can run the Railroad using my computer, JMRI and my PR 3 so the wheels are still turning!

  Later, Ken

Evenin' folks!

Since it's All Halos Eve, aka: Halloween, I thought I would post a real ghost photo I managed to get a couple years ago out at the museum....

The folks out there, since the Loco is RG&E 1941, figured it is the ghost of Ready Kilowatt!  (Google it...)  You can clearly see the apparition and his hand on the cowling of the near end Prime Mover.  I never noticed it until I got home and downloaded the photo.........

Jeff - good to see you here. Please try to come as often as possible.

Made a quick & dirty set-up of my layout on the door and have been plaing with my train since then. Amazing, how much comfort a stressed soul can get when watching a miniature train circle a  simple loop! I even forgot my back is hurting like beep (expletive, deleted)!

No little visitors in funny guises calling on us tonight - I guess Halloween has lost its glamour in my neck of the woods.

Getting back to the physical therapy class, we had a visitor. He came in in his wheelchair and very very carefully set his coffee mug on the floor. I remarked how it looked like a UFO had touched down. Two minutes later I was still looking at it then put on my glasses and looked at it again. Then I said there was something coming from the bottom of it and was spreading out. I looked cloer then exclaimed "Oh my God! It,s the alein invasion force come to take us over! And they're waving something! Good God! Look out! They have probes!". I landed everyone in the room including the therapists! All had a good laugh.

Piggy-backing a Wi-Fi signal from another place. That doesn't give complete covereage so in some areas I have good covereag and none in others. I've already turned th physical therapy class on it's ear. More later.

Talking of horsepiddles, I can add a sad story.

My FIL had a pain in the chest, so he drove (!) to the next hospital and admiited himself to the ER. After waiting for two hours, a doc finally showed up, made a 60 second diagnosis, gave him two Aspirins and sent him home. He died in the following night, at the age of only 63. I always thought, that a doctor would ring the big bell  when an elderly patient, overweight, short of breath, shows up with a pain in his chest. Last time I went through this, we had the ambulance here within 3 minutes. I had my heart attack in the ambulance, while a huge dose of Heparine was going through my arteries, preventing any major damage.

Well Hello Alexander. Jeff is having a rough time. And Inch lost a nephew to Cancer. Other than that all here seem to be okay.

Garry - that is the best pumpkin I have seen all season ! I wonder how an N&W would look in orange ? Whistling

Galaxy - If you wrote all that from memory THAT is amazing !

Stripe - Can you post a bigger picture. The mention of N&W made my ears perk up !

Howmus - You know I have often heard Dr. Kings comment used - judging by the content of their character - but those in power who often qoute that really only use it one way. To their advantage. I wish that was REALLY the case. I could live with that, not the special rules for those who think they desrve something their character hasnt shown they desrve. My family came from Appalachia some of the poorest of the poor. My wife came from Cuba, one step ahead of Castro and her family lost everything to communism. They had to restart in America from scratch. Including learning the langauge. My father is now a millionaire, he only had a third grade education, my wife makes 3 figures and is a success by any standard. We earned our "character" working during the day, school at night, working two jobs ...no one gave us anything. I have a real problem for those who do not have enough character to do the hard work and think those of us who have paid our dues owe them something. The only thing I owe them is the same respect I would give any one. This is America. They should Go put on their big boy pants and get to work and go to school. That is the only thing they are owed, the oppurtunity to succeed, vote and worship freely. Sorry for getting on my loud speaker about this but I have had enough of the crowd who think they are owed anything.

Now when someone is down I will be the first to give a lifting hand so that they can get back on their feet. And I have helped many from across the human spectrum. I am also tired of people being described as this American or that American. Last time I checked once you became a citzen we are all Americans. Okay I will not get off of my SoapBox Sorry this was not directed at you.

Well all heck is breaking loose on the site and again their are some who arent playing well together. I really wish people could play better together.

Mornin' everyone!

What, Zoe, no I already had breakfast at Water Street Cafe this morning....  Sorry!  It's an old tradition that whenever I have to visit the Vampire (Phlebotomist) over at the Medical Group, I break my fast by going over to a local diner in Geneva owned by the mommy of a couple of my favorite former students.  Today she was dressed as a Biker Chick.  She had gone out back before I paid my bill so I told the girl that waoited on me to tell her said she looks great as a Biker Chick!  What?  Oh I had the #2 this morning.  I always have the #2 there.  Two eggs over easy, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast and lots and lots of coffee!

BTY, the kid (I think she is in training by the fact she was being watched by another phlebotomist and looked to about 20) who took my blood this morning did very well, got the vein on the first try!

A good All Hallows Eve to all of you.  Yep today is the Eve of one of the most important old Holy Days of the Christian Church.  One that isn't often celebrated much any more.  That would be All Saints Day which is followed by All Souls on November 2nd.

I will be getting the house ready for the little visitors that will be arriving later tonight....  I still enjoy the few kids I get at my door.  It was a lot more fun back when I knew most oif the kids from school though.  Every once in a while the mommy or daddy accompaning the little monsters shouts out, "Oh my Gosh, it's Mr. Howard!"  That is fun....

Catch you all later.

Mornin, an irsh coffee please Zoe. Today is Halloween when the dead rise. Illinois dead will get to rise again election day, as long as they vote democrat. On that I have noting else at say

Rain looks to be over for now, high of 46 and windy. Freeze Warnin out for tonight, low of 27. First one for this fall, bout 2-3 later than normal.

Using Mothers laptop since the desk top decided to startin up, really need to get it over to Staples have looked at.

You guys talkin bout Hospitals, I’ve got one. My mom thought whe was having was another heart attack so she went to the hospital and they got her right into a room. Took 2 hour for a doctor to check her over. He didn’t know what was wrong, so they sent home with some pills. 2 days later, she’s back over there, this time they keep 2 days and still can’t figure it out, sent her home with different pills. 6 days laters, same thing, mom’s back in hospital for the same thing again. This time they do a heart cath and find nothing. Sent her home again.

She decided to go see our regular doc, but he’s gone for 2 days. So she see’s the nurse practioner. Terisia check her over and wanted an x-ray. After abit Terisia comes and ask mom if she’d had trouble with constipation. Mom said sometimes an Terisia informed her that she was full of it now and that was all the problem. Well 3 enemas  and a couple x-lax later, all moms problem had passed, so to speak. Funny how 4, high priced now-it-alls wasn’t smart enough to at least take an xray or anything like that.

I best get on at inside chores. Thoughts n prayers for those in need n hoe ya’ll has a gooden

Monsters, stalking through the night,
Halloween is the Night of Fright.
Fear is what this night brings,
Along with many other things.

Are you sure you are prepared?
Tonight is not for the easily scared.
Creatures from hell roam on this night,
For tonight is the Night of Fright.

Trick or treat you say,
You should not have waited until the end of the day.
Tonight you will lose your tricks and treats,
For the monsters need to eat.

You better not take this night lightly,
Or else you will truly learn what fright means.

In ancient times people feared this night,
The night they greeted with fright.
Why they were so scared you will soon see,
On this "All Hollows Eve."

A Ghooly Morning to you all!

I can´t believe it - the last day of October already!

Our mail women (the cute one Wink) just brought my last Ebay purchase - the missing pair of turnouts, so I am all set to lay the track. I need to get some cork roadbed before I can start, but I have not yet made up my mind whether to buy the expensive Heki stuff or go for the el-cheapo version. I like cheap, but it has to be good as well!

The pair of turnouts are used ones, but this time they are reall used. All other stuff had been brand new. The turnouts arrived dirty, with a lot of gunk from some kind of an adhesive on them. It took me an hour to clean them and test them. Now they are OK.

My layout will be DCC operated. I am just wondering, whether I can use the constant voltage on the track to power the turnout motors. Marklin does that with their C-Track turnouts. I have asked that question on a German forum, but received one negative answer. I guess I will have to do more research on this subject!

MikeGTW - should you call Jeff, please pass our best wishes to him!

Make it a happy day!

HAPPY HOLLERWEENIE!

Dos't ye have yer orange and black cape ready to haunt the night?

"I Vant to drrrrink yer bloooood"....{notice I rolled my "r"s and extended my "o's}

WHAT was That? I hear sounds.....

The"Hogglie-booglies"

are out!

So are the

Ghastly Ghosts and gobblins!

BOO!

and for the spooktacular night we must remember:

There is a budding morrow in midnight. -John Keats, poet (1795-1821)

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary

ovemany a  quaint and curuous volume of forgotten lore

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,

as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

"Tis some visitor." I muttered, 'tapping at my chamber door--

only this and nothing more.."

Ah, distinctly I remember It was in the bleak December

and each seperate dying ember cast its ghost upon the floor

eagerly I sought the morrow, Vainly I sought to borrow

from my books surcease of sorrow,-sorrow for the lost Lenore;

For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore

sorrow for the loss of the rare and radiant maiden named Lenore-,

nameless here, for evermore...

ANd the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain

Thrilled me, filled me with fantastic terrors I had never felt before-

So that now to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating

"Tis some visitor entreating entry at my chamber door-

Some late visitor entreating entry  at my chamber door"-

"This it is and nothing more...".

Presently my soul grew stronger, hesitating then no longer-

"SIr" said I, "Or Madam, truely your forgiveness  I implore...

But the fact is I was napping and so gently you can rapping at my chamber door

and so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door

That I was scarely sure I had heard you"-here I opened wide the door-

Darkenss there and nothing more!

Deep into that darkness peering, Long I stood there wondering, fearing

DOubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before,

But the silence was unbroken, and the stikllness gave no token,

and the only word there was spoken was a whispered word "Lenore?"

This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word "lenore!"-

Merely this and nothing more...

BAck into the chamber turniong, all my sould within me burning,

soon again I heard the tapping somewhat louder than before.

"surely" said I, "surely that is something at my window lattice'-

Let em see then, what teh threat is, and the msytery explore=

Let my heart be still a moment, and this mystery explore-

Tis the wind and NOTHING MORE!

Open here I flung the shutters, when with many flirt and flutter,

In there stepped a raven of the saintly days of yore;

Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he

But wiht mein of Lord or Lady, perched above my chamber door-

Perched and sat, and nothing more.

The this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,

By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore.

"Though thy crest be shorn and shaven thou", I said,"Art sure no craven,

Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the nightly shore-

Tell me what thy Lordly name is on the night's Plutonian shore!"

Quoth the Raven "NEVERMORE".

Sorry guys that is the extent of my memory of THAT particular poem! I DO hope it is Right. Never could learn all the stanzas!
So, Quoth the Raven, NEVER MORE!
{ oh geeze, I will walk around all day "quoting the raven nevermore!" WHAT did I DO???

Healing thoughts and energies

for those in need....

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

I go back to bed now, the cat was wking me up all night,
So, QOuth the Galaxy, Nevermore!

Galaxy, Yep....  That's why I usually say that good people come in all sizes, shapes, colors, and religions.  Just like bad people!  They used to get some real corkers at the horsespital and many of the employees (particularly ER) there also had an attitude....  On the other hand my wife used to come home and tell me about checking in the people who listed there complaint as, "Having a poor spell".  She did get completely grossed out the time the hermit from out in the mountains got brought in to the ER and she was helping to get his vitals when a cockroach ran out of the guy's beard......

The last time I got signed in at the ER there, I had a gash in my leg about 7 inches long.  Required 5 stitches and a dozen or so butterflies to close it up.  I got nailed by a sappling that broke when I fell off a ladder on an Oak tree I was taking down for firewood.  (I don't climb up in trees with a chain saw anymore!).  The nurse (who, of course, knew my wife) took one look at the chart, looked at me, grinned and said, "What happened?  You try to saw off the wrong limb?"  That accident had to be reported to the State of PA for record keeping about such things....

The story you told about breaking your arm would have likely been about the time the state of PA instituted a mandatory investigation of kids with badly broken bones or having certain kinds of injuries.  As a teacher we saw a lot of kids in the area who had the signs of serious abuse!  The Scoutmaster of the Handicaped Troop just renewed his "Youth Protection" training that is mandatory of all adults working with kids in Scouting.  Scouters are mandatory reporters just like teachers and health people for any possible abusive injury or suspicion of abuse to kids.  I remember when those laws were made stronger a few years after I came to Geneva.  There was a kid (Boy Scout) who was often being bullied by other kids.  The principal just told him to "Man Up" and take it.  He was found after school one day hanging from a rope in his bedroom.  I have also seen some cases where parents got very angry over "Unfounded" abuse investigations at schools and hospitals only to find out later that the kids were actually abused....  Abuse happens throughout culture and is not just a problem of the poor and  disadvantaged!  It is tough on parents going through the process, but it has saved quite a few lives since it was put in place...  Just my 2¢.

Take care and be blessed!

Ray:I said that tongue-in-cheek. IBMers were no different than anyone else, and many did not feel like 'the creme de la creme' and were just thankful that teh federal contracts kept rolling in so they had steady jobs...

NOw, on this Robert Packer thing....I was about 8, and broke/shattered my elbow late on a Saturday in the garage whilst my parents were out in the back yard knee deep in dirt digging up a row of offensive pricker bushes so kindly planted as a "hedge" by the previous owners/builders. Anyway...I was filthy form "helping" by playing the dirt too, but my father grabbed a board and wrapped it in a Tshirt to "set" or rather "stabilize" my arm til we got there to Packer.

We checked in by name and complaint only. And they IGNORED US and appeared to be wispering about us and staring in our direction. I was, of course, screaming bloody murder in agony. My father finally went over to the ER  desk and calmly asked what the hold up was. The nurse on duty there said in a huffy tone "well,do you have INSURANCE?". My father said "Yes, I have IBM insurance". SHe said "oh? DO you have your card?". When My father gave it to her, ALL H-E-DOuble hockey sticks broke loose and they couldn't DO enough, FAST enough for us! They got us in like royalty! Rolled out a regular red carpet, they did.

But there was one little problem. I broke my arm by jumping {failing actually} over the wagon handle and the top part kept going forward, the feet came down right where they lifted off, but the top kept going forward and I stuck out my arms/hands to block my fall and...my left arm met the concrete stretched straight out FIRST! CRACK. SMASH BOOM! Now THAT wasn't so much the problem. My little bro was there too. They called on me privately to ask how I broke my arm, they called on my bro privately, they asked me a dozen times how i broke my arm. I kept repeating the same stupid story of how/why I broke my arm {I have learned "accidents' are often hard to "rashionally" explain!}. They called in "officer Bill" to ask how I did it. They were "investigating to see" if my parents had broken my arm in child abuse! Since I never waivered in my story, and my bro backed me up, they let us go.

So, I won't even bother to tellyou about the time I went to RP with a very bad stomach virus..as the Dr swore I was on illegal drugs and had OD'd. Until the toxicology test came back Negative TWICE, he finally let up on asking me "what drugs have you taken?" Never did DO anything for me that the go-to Pepto Bismol didn't do..which wasn't much.

I don't have much good to say about RP, now called Guthrie.

Ah, "thank you for this stroll down amnesia lane" {Robin Williams RIP, O Captain, My Captain}

IBMers ARE the "top drawer" "creme de la creme" people...

ROFLMAO!  Well having taught in Waverly, NY for the first 11 years of my career I can tell you that They sure thought so!  They all too often treated everyone else around them in the community like , ah....  Can't use that word here.  My wife worked for the business office at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.  I won't tell you her true opinion of IBMers. An example though: She once was signing in a person for some tests at the hospital.  Gentleman was wearing a gray suit....  (That is a clue).  Guy was very aloof and nasty to her as she asked for information to sign him in.  Real nasty attitude!  She finally asked him for his IBM card for insurance.  He exploded at her.  "How do you know I'm and IBMer!!!  I never said anything about working for IBM!!!  What!  Do we smell funny or something???!?"  She calmly handled the situation saying he was nicely dressed and assumed he worked at IBM.  He took his paperwork and stormed down the hall.  She did get called in formally by the office to mention that the ....... had turned her in for asking for his IBM card.  Her boss just said, "What do you expect", grinned. and sent her back to work.  Years later she would still tell the story and would add, if she didn't need the job she would have just said "Yes!" to his question.  All that said, we knew many folks who worked for IBM who were good decent people who treated others with respect...  I just would have trouble saying they all are that way.  Once again, judge people by the content of their character, not whom they work for.

Have to finish the Beef Stew for supper and head over to the Troop meeting tonight.

Later!

Galaxy - Itty Bitty Minds - why did your FIL call them that ? I found those guys to be teh cream of the crop. They were usually the top drawer types that IBM hired.

YGW: IBMers ARE the "top drawer" "creme de la creme" people...FIL, adn his fellow employees at another company were just JEALOUS of the IBMers, so they called them "Itty Bitty Minds". I know My FIL was, in fact, very Jealous, because IBM would NOT take him! SO he went to work for the other company who would hire him, but it is of course,  now defunct.

~Well, I got two, count em, two packages today. But Not the two I was hoping for. Only got 1 UPS package, met him out front. Asked if he had both packages or jsut the one. He said just one, how did I know there'd be two? I siad, because the orrder was split and one arrived yesterday to them with wrong addy on it, adn the other arrived to them last night, and I was hoping it would be there today too. He siad he had a package he could n't figure out, but didn't ask me for help. He siad "it gets confusing in here" Unfortunately he was blocking MOH and MOH had to go to work, so he went on his way without me fully explainiung "how it is that is NOT confusing..all mumbers go in proper order up one side nad down the other of the streets, in two different trailer parks. One up the hill one here in the flats where I am. Problem IS the mailing address {which have to be on the shipping lable as a "valid USPS addy" or it won't take the order at all, and the physical location has a different addy that UPS needs to find us. It would be much simpler if the boxes at the end fo the street correlated to the physical addy too. BUT no,,,,,

~ The other package was the first of one I lamented about earlier that WaS Shipped USPS, and had NO tracking number for it. It got here, way ahead of schedule.

~Both were jsut simple clothing, nothing to get fancy and hot and bothered over, and no, no trains, I have 14 locos already!

~Take the Kia in tonight for a repair to the half shaft tomorrow. A "2 hour job, shouldn't take long"..the LAST time I had half shafts replaced, one took a whole day,and the other a day and a half! I DO hope this one is a good "2 hour jobber". This will set me back a couple 'hunnert' dollars.

Continued healing energies to those who need them, and for those who passed before us.

well, best get to the laundry the new clothes are {hopefully} dried.

later dudes..

YGW,

That is a LeTourneau Intermodal Side Loader at the N&W Rail yard in Chgo. I knew the operator very well and He let me take the pic., while He was loading a 20ft can on my chassis. The truck is a 1973 Diamond Reo, a true classic restored by me and some of my friends. The pic is from 1983, when I first started out owning my own trucks. I was leased to Galaxy Transport at the time. Great city tractor. Loud with straight pipes with the Detroit 671 cu in blown diesel engine. Same blower cars used at the drag strip.

BTW: You're the first to ask, about the pic.
