MisterBeasley I picked up a Roku box for our TV. This lets you watch internet programs or stream movies and such on the big TV. It's an older model I got used (third hand, actually) for $20. Lately, we've become increasingly annoyed with Comcast for providing a thousand channels of nothing, plus all the zombie movies we don't want to see and few that we do. We'll see what happens.

Let me know how that works.
We have time warner cable, but they are supposedly {if apporved] merging/buying/being bought byComcast, and we ARE NOT looking forward to it. I suppose it woudl be helpful to know what plugs into what and if our TV has it to plug into, we don't have a lap top, and the hard wired computer is in another room, and we can't really watch tv on the puter as its a small screen adn a small spaced room to try and watch it.Andour tablet is basic modle doesn't allow for much to do onit besides pre-programmed inserts.
TW has channels 2- to about 200 that we usually watch regularly, almost ALL of them are triplicate copies of each other..so really only about 60 channels, most of which we don't don't care to watch.
We need to keep the internet, as MOH needs it for work reports.
We watch tv more often than not as it is always on at our house, even if not sitting directly in front of it.Maybe I could get into the habit of listening to music again, but dunno.
Let me know how it works, and how it works for YOU. I'd look foreward to it...

Good Afternoon!
Still no word from Jeff? That leaves me worried! I hope he has just connectivity problems with his tablet PC!
With the help of some fine and helpful folks on a British "railway modelling" forum, I am slowly getting to where I want to be with my layout plan. I reduced the number of tracks in the station and introduced some storage tracks in the staging area. This means I have to install some kind of controll for the switches and track monitoring there.
I also moved the layout back to the Rhine Valley area - gives me a much wider choice of buildings available in kits.
This could be it (the drawing needs some more work):
I´ll be going to buy a few lengths of straight track tomorrow, so I can put up the temporary layout to play with.
Make it a happy day!
Italian Roast coffee, TO GO, please.
Hope everyone is doing well these days. Healing thoughts to those in need.
Cheers! Rob
Mornin'.... Ahhhh, hmmmm... Ahem! Afternoon folks!
Janie just a refill for my dark roast coffee, please.
Dark and gloomy and cold, and icky again here in the Finger lakes today. Repeat of yesterday. The city has been around with the John Deere bucket loader picking up piles of leaves, and limbs for the Fall collection as usual. I have been busy getting last minute stuff done for the Fall Division Meet on Saturday. Still have a couple weeks of work to get done in the next couple days. (Seems that way anyway... It will all get done by Friday before I hit the sack.)
Have to make a wine run down the lake to get my other son a few bottles of Finger Lakes wine and Mead for his upcoming birthday, and also make a quick run over to the Mennonite stand for some goodies.
Do hope that Jeffrey is doing OK!
Good to see you Rob! Don't be a stranger.....
Best get myself moving. Since it is 47°F outside almost at today's high, I will light the wood stove early today.

~HOpe Jeffrey's battery ran down in his tablet and not a set back! Wish someone would let us know!
take it easy, I know i am,...
We had some errands to run today, and got back about an hour ago. One of those errands was to stop & purchase a new cloths dryer. I'm not too upset that we had to get a new one, as the old one was bought 18 years ago. It has had some minor things repaired, but nothing major. this time, it was the automatic gas valve, & the part is no longer available. One downer though, is both my repairman & the little local dealer we buy all our appliances from, said to only expect 10 or 12 years out of the new one. Without getting on a soap box, I think it's just a shame that we seem to manufacture only so-so products anymore.
Getting ready for the weekend trip to Timonium. Really looking forward to it. Not expecting to make any major purchases, but who knows what might catch my eye. I have to admit I can be a little weak willed at these shows. It's usually something that doesn't fit into my collection & I don't need, but it's a cool paint scheme or some other dumb excuse. The wife is no help either. She will say "Oh, that's cute" or "those are pretty colors". This time it will be hard for her to do that much walking, so I'll park her at the refreshment area while I make my walk thru, then get her & look at the layouts. She does enjoy that.
Rob -Good to hear from you. I've been wondering if you still paint. I haven't heard you mention it for quite some time.

Rob - good to see you again!
I am worried about Jeff! I hope everything´s just fine with him.
I have been tinkering around with that plan of mine, just adding some more detail to the drawing, allowing me to visualize it better.
I start to like it, so I will freeze this plan, before I start to make it worse by fiddling around with it.
Tablet battery is OK. Been busy with physical therapy. Made five steps between the parallel bars today. I know that doesn't sound like much but for someone with no legs it's a great accomplishment! Unfortunately dinner tonight wasn't that great. It was pattetable but where I come from road kill is road kill no matter how well it's prepared and spiced.

Jeffrey! Great to hear form you,I had to check one more time before I went to bed, as I was worried, and I second Garry's comment!
Congrats on 5 steps! I was hoping you were not communicado due simply to being tired from walking!
I know you will be hob-nobbing and dancing around with the nursing staff soon enough!
Jeffrey, Does the hospital/home have an "alternative menu"? you might ask. sometimes if you don't want what the hospital is offering around here, you can order off the "alternative menu" which is often more palatable. Last time i was in for the pneumonia, it became my go-to as they repeat the regular menu each week for a month before changing it. Since I was there 2.5 weeks, I was there long enough and saw the repeats, and orderd instead A la carte from the alternative menu to vary the food.Pretty much anything I wanted.
Have a great night's rest, see yous in the A of M.

Ray Thank you for yours words of encourgerment (I miss spess check) on the cholestrol blood work! Do you divied the total cholestrol by the HDL level, or is the LDL divied by the HDL? I cannot find the web page that had the raito's again? Far as the A1C test, I still unhappy with 7.0. I want 6.5 or lower. Maybe this diet will help with it being low carb.
Jeffery Glad to hear from you! Congrats on the 5 steps, it is a start to a long jounery but you will do it! Won't be long before you are kicking your nephew's butt, and it won't hurt!

Great to hear from you JEFF, we were starting to wonder if you had eloped with one of those southern belle Nurses. The saying goes one step at a time and you already have five in. Next thing you will tell us is that you have entered a Marathon.

Take care, my friend.
Good Morning!
Seems to be a nice day today - it´s bright and sunny, but a little cold. That´s the way I like my "golden October"!
Jeff - good to see you here! I was worried, y´know! I remember the "Volkslauf" quite well, although I never participated in one of them. They are gone now (I like the pun to that), replaced by various city marathon events.
Ken - thanks for the kudos. While the layout won´t offer much in terms of operation, it´s supposed to be a gem in terms of scenery. I don´t have the space to copy the prototype location, but I want to capture the atmosphere of that region. Here are a couple of shots of the prototype location:
I have been up and down the Rhine Valley by traina number of times, so there are a lot of fond memories attached to this layout idea.
Me again!
Warning: Rant ahead!
I am just back from my attempt to buy a few pieces of straight track. Mission not accomplished, because my LHS is no more. Their website is still up, but the store is gone. I just waisted an hour and gas for a few bucks to find that out! OK, on the way back I stopped at my home improvement store to buy a roll of double-sided tape. At $ 22 for 5 yards I did not dare to do that. The Internet shows prices down by 80 % from that figure. Who needs shops, if they are either gone, don´t stock what you want or charge prices making any merchant in a bazaar blush?
End of rant!

Oh, NO! Yet another "the hobby shop has closed" or the "hobby is to expensive" rant! Whatever will we do?
business who don't have websites, often close, the smaller they are, the more likely...EVEN whne they DO have a website, as a website may be cheaper to maintain than brick-n-mortar. They may NOT have everything online that is in-store, but it gives you an idea of what they may carry on a regular basis.
To bad you don't have a Wally World {really called WALMART} in your area..I paid just $3 for 4 yards of double sided tape 1 1/4 " wide {i think was 4 yards, if not at least 3}
See if you can find CARPET double sided tape for throwrugs...it comes in miles and miles of length, is about 2" wide, is a much thinner tape than the "puffy double sided tape" and sells for like $5. Holds much better too! Desinged to hold throw rugs down while they get vacuumed and walked on. I DON't know how it will work with extruded foam, but I can't see why it might not work, as it is designed to hold fast and steady, and to not mar hardwood floors so much!
Just an idea...
This bit of adversity is only a pause. I'm not letting it stop me. I'll find a way over, around, under, or through it. How long it takes depends on my determination and persisrance.

ABSINTHE...neat. And keep them coming till I'm incoherent...please.
The alternator in my pick up went to dead short and burst into flames on my way to work. Thankfully the safe place to get off the road was the Fernley NV Auto Zone. I'll have get help from a friend to fix it and get it home this afternoon. I got to work well on time after a half mile walk. Usually not a big deal but sometimes a walk like that can be a challenge on a bum leg ravaged by cancer surgery. Most of the people I know in my immediate area I could get a ride from...where off work. But I lucked out and found someone who commutes from Carson City...good deal, got home this morning no problem.
Not looking good for me being accepted for a job in the new building in Reno. I'm 53 with a disablity...potential discrimination. They don't want to accommodate me anymore. They are also forcing all in the new building to be PIT operators (Powered Industrial Trucks...for anyone unfamiliar with the acronym). That's a fatality in the making. Don't know where I stand with that one with them...but I don't want to run one anyway considering how safety stupid my employer is.
Throughout the night, while trying to do my job...nothing was working right, broken down everything. I had the anti-Midas touch as well. Everything I touched turned to...well...something that won't pass for gold. My numbers went down the toilet and I'll probably get written up. That would be a notch in their belt for ousting me out.
Then, another occurrance of something that really disturbes me. I packed out an order containing a gallon of a very potent insecticide with several packages of candy. I've put cereal and rat poison in the same shipment at another time...it goes on. They should be separate...but Noooo...that's too costly. Ship it! I get told. I'm waiting to hear something like some little kid was was poisoned by eating cereal that was packed together with something very toxic and bought from who I work for. Get my concern.
Okay...I'm done griping.
I got my three days off. I'll get the pick up straightened out then start tidying things on the railroad and the railroad rooms (my livingroom, diningroom, and kitchen) in preparation for the Reno/Carson City layout tours on Nov 1 and 2. Don't know how many visitors I'll get...I'm a good bit out of the way, but hopefully a few.
Enough for today.
Take care all

If You would like to ''get Your concern'' as You put it better understood. I believe a better understanding of what would happen if Your Employer ever got caught with his Hazmat shipping practices, sad to say....You will go down the tubes with Him. Ignorance is not bliss, in this situation. Hazmat violations are strict and penalty's more so, prison time and heavy fines. I know You said You need the job.....but?
I also would not tell a lot of people.

Afternoon folks!
Chloe, A cup of hot chocolate would be really nice right about now.
Guess what? It's another beautiful day in the Finger lakes today.... Cloudy, gray, gloomy, and cold... Oh well, at least it is supposed to be nice this weekend. Since that is the day for the LSD Fall Meet, I guess I should be glad.
Spent the morning over at another Commissioners house helping to get the Handicapped Scout units rechartering done. Basically it is done... Then I had to grab a quick lunch and head over to the Gastroenterology folks to get the results of my colonoscopy last month. I showed up at the appointed time and waited for about 5 minutes at the check in window. The receptionist was tied up on the phone with someone who evidentally wasn't being nice... So when she finally got to me she was "all business". Wanted my name, address, insurance info checked.... Then for the last ID needed she asked, "If there is an emergency who do you want called?" Without breaking stride I said, "911!" She looked up and glared at me! I was starting to feel bad when she started to giggle.... Looked down, shook her head and said, "All right we call 911. Anyone else you might like to call?" I thought for a second and said, "Next of kin?" she smiled and nodded her head. So I said my son Arthur. She then laughed and thanked me... I guess she doesn't deal with my type all the time.
The Appointment went well. I have no problems to speak of, everything was normal. I do have diverticulos and hemorrhoids (but who doesn't at my age...), They removed 4 polyps. One was nondescript and the other 3 are the type that can become cancerous, so they want me back in 3 years... Oh Joy, Oh Rapture... I told the Nurse Practioner that My sister asked me why I make polyps and nobody else in the family seems to get them. I said my answer to her was that I think there is a connection between the chemicals I was exposed to on the farm and when I worked summers at the Golf Course way back then. (I used to come home, eat dinner, and be sicker than a dog all night...) She turned around in her chair, looked me straight in the eyes and nodded her head. She said that most people think it all has to do with diet, but diet is only one factor and the chemicals I was exposed to is a bigger factor in the mix.
Have one more meeting to be at today! Property Committee for Boy Scout Camp.
At the moment I am printing out materials for Saturday....
Catch you all later!

This corporation is well known in the area for being hostile and as I recently found out...has been kicked out of jobs fairs. There are many issues with this company that I couldn't possibly address them all. At this point the main reason for me to try to stay there are the med benfits. Also, unemployment is this area is still around 15%. I definitely want out of there before things cave in, and they ultimately will...and I want no part of that. Some of my experiences on the railroad occasionally haunt me. So safety in that place...stimulates that uneasiness.
This company...I'll continue not to mention their name...posted revenues last year of $73B dollars and employs 120K people woldwide. It's a shame, they could be a good employer. I often think they model their management practices and employee relations after China.
I think the most difficult thing with all of this...including living in northern Nevada, is being a genuinely concerned and deeply caring person in the middle of an environment that's exactly the opposite. And no one wants to change. Maybe it is time to find a workable way out. I'm currently working on getting qualified for Voc Rehab...which could be a start. But this is Nevada...I've been here for 20 years and know it well...I'm not holding my breath.
Okay...enough of my drama for one day...time to go play with the trains.
I have a dream!
How's that for an opener?
I have a dream that's been brewing for months. To pack up the entirety of my personal railroading world and my dog and cat and make an escape run for my native Pennsylvania. Take the resources I don't have and find an a place along the Main Line (Rt 30 west of Philadelphia) right along the Keystone Corridor. Renovate an old service station, making the garage into a railroad room and the office area into living quarters. Keep a driver's licence and car only for going to a gun range occasionally, and ride trains and busses for everything else. There are dozens of commuter trains running there daily of Amtrak and Septa.
I could call it: "Escape from Nevada:The Quest"
Eh...just a dream. Maybe when I hit on Megabucks in a casino. Oh, I just remembered that I don't gamble. At least...not with my money.
Have a good night everyone
Sounds like a great dream to Me. Try to keep it alive. Good Luck!
Jeff,
Congrats, on the fifteen steps.
Take Care! All.
Evening Dinners
Flo, please and give Mark one as well!
Worked with Dr Jekell and Mr Hyde Today. Paul was being a real Richard Head (Can I say that? ) today! He was having a bad day and I was tied to the whipping post! Twice he came close to making me walk out, and it is nicking picking stuff! At the end of the day I forgot to date when the ticket was written. They picked up at the sametime as they bought, which was today. I had them date where they signed that they picked up the Futton, I had pick up date dated as today and the credit card receipt shows today.
Yes, I know the ticket needs the date written as well, I missed it. It is a mistake I think it was the first time I missed that part. My Real Mistake was when I stated to Paul "They did date when they pick upped". Bang Off To The Races we went! Paul took it as me saying "I didn't need to date the ticket, they dated it that they picked up". Which is not what I was saying. But Paul like to twist are words (other employees as well ) to suite is reason to berate us for a small mistake when he is having a bad day!
Yet Mr Perfect makes mistakes and I keep quite. Again, he forgot to do the Spiff / Commsion report and so all us sales people checks where short this week? I all most threw that in is faces after this happen, but I kept quite but it is getting harder and harder.
See you all Friday after going the VA Health Care center at Jefferson Barracks MO. Time to have my feet checked out again.
Later, Ken
Ken:
I have to say if you said what you wrote here {forgeting for a moment that the internet doesn't translate inflection or tone of voice}; I would have talken it as you wrote that Paul took it! I have to side with him!
Dated material is ALWAYS of paramount importace when making a sales receipt. It is the date the "warrantee of goods" starts, etc.
I know it may be a simple overlook, but 'yous gots to watches yers P's and Q's' when filing out the sales form.
ANd, NO I WOULD NOT "overlook the spiffs "mistake". I would have politely Muttered and said, "oh the labor board won't be happy with shorted paychecks this {or next} week", and walked away. That puts him on notice that you are aware he is shorting pay,and could report him, WITHOUT saying you will. If he retaliates and fires you, you appeal to the labor board, who also WON'T be happy to hear an employer is shorting commission pay.I would ALSO say it when I get my shorted paycheck!
Employers will tend to push you as far as they think you will let them. They don;'t like it when you force them to adhere to employment/pay laws! Otherewise, you may NEVER see your "spiff", as it could get "forgotten about"! ANOTHE THINGS IS they could claim to invalidate your sales slip with no date on it, whether the customer put it on it or not!
Now that could mean he may drop the whole "spiffs' program, but at least you won't feel cheated then, and the labor board would be very interested in knowing what he is up to. You can report anonymously to the labor board, should be able to anyway, what he is doing by shorting due pay.Search for the phone nuber on the "employe notices board" at work..every business should have them conspicously psoted...if not, look it up in phone book. They can get into more trouble for not having proper posting of important State/Federal Employment rules/regulations.
Jeffrey! Congrats on the 15 feet...where is this Rosepine, of which you speak? closer to home or further away? SOunds like the title for a Stephen King spooky novel...where guests check in, but don't check out! What type of facility is it?
Now, see, that dinner, to me anyway, sounded very palatable! Depends on if the chix was dried out or not.
Keep striving to reach the gold at the end of each walk, and you will surely win!
Keep up the good work!
well, it's 2:10 EDT, and ALL'S WELL!
