I had a lot of the same static from my father who never had anything worse than a light case of the flu. It was always 'Your legs can't be that bad. I'm twenty-six years older than you and mine are fine. Now go out there and run around the fenceline for exercise'. Quite a few times I told hm what he could do with that attitude and how to get it there. My mother was more understanstanding as many of my problems I inherited from her. One year my father got hit with a bad case of sciatica and could hardly walk and then only with great effort and intense pain. My mother and I both told him to go run around the fenceline for exercise. He told us both where to go and how to get there. Then he came down with diabetes and now has to keep that under control. He's now getting some burning in his fingers and toes and has a much better understanding of what I'm going through. He doesn't even want to know what it's like to lose a leg or even an ankle as I lost the use of my right ankle many years before I lost the right leg below the knee.

Isn't it so true that it is very easy to "blame" others for their disabilities and problems. I hear so often comments about "those" people and how lazy or stupid, or (fill in the blank with this or that generalization ). That appears to be an easy sell for some politicians I guess and is grabbed up by so, so many people just looking to find someone else to blame for "whatever". OK, no more use of the word "politician"...
I can remember all too well coming home to visit my parents after I became a teacher and sitting and talking to my Mom after she became disabled... She was in constant pain, could no longer drive, and was told that she had less than 5 years to live by her doctors. She was previously a successfull local business woman (hairdresser) and a well known singer in the area. She could no longer sing as it caused too much pain for her.
One time while we were talking she started to tell me about the times when some of her older customers and some who were disabled would ask her to drive them home (A few miles out of her way) and how she was always upset with them for thinking SHE should have to give them a ride... None of those ladies could drive and for many their only "Fun Money" was the day at the hairdresser so paying for a taxi wasn't possible. Often times something came up that their ride back to home suddenly couldn't pick them up. She would drive them home, but I remember mom would come home in a foul mood on those days and rant about how pretentious some of her customers were. But this day she sat and cried.... She told me how much she wished she could turn back the clock because now she knew. Now she would feel priviledged to provde a ride home for them. She wished she could have been glad to do that when she had the chance.
My Mom managed to live 35 more years (she had Primary Biliary Cirrhosis of the Liver and degerative bone disease later). She lived all those years in pain!

Hi Guys
Not much going on here. Just playing around on the Ipad for the most part. There is a app that will come in handy during my next strat o matic project. Kind of getting a little tired so might just lay on couch and watch baseball.

Happy Friday morning. Looks like a nice day and a nice weekend. I'm planning to push through my meds-induced lethargy and try to get in a bike ride.
My Mom made sure her affairs were in order before she died. Her will was simple - my sister and I were co-executors, and we split everything down the middle. Actually, being co-executors would have been a pain logistically, so she asked me to just do it, which worked fine. There were no disagreements, and getting rid of all her furniture was the only hassel, as neither of us wanted much of it. We've still got some metal porch furniture, but the French Provincial living room set ended up incongruously located in a lodge at a Y camp in Connecticut.

Hi Guys,
Just about to head out to work soon. Its a nice day and suppose to be nice all weekend too, I have to work tomorrow so hope to get outside on Sunday to cut grass.
See you guys tonight
Hello again.....
Just learned my brother in law in Michigan had some bad results of heart tests this morning. He has bad blockages in 4 arteries. He will be having bipass surgery shortly. Remarkably, this is a guy who gets plenty of exercise, eats wisely, and keeps his weight where it belongs. .
Meanwhile my sister in law in Tennessee is doing well recovering from her heart attack last month.
I encourage each of you to have a phyiscal exam regularly. If it has been too long since you had one, schedule it as soon as you can.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I could use another refill for my coffee mug, please.
I got in here about an hour ago, but got interupted by several other things needing to get done first...
Garry, I will keep your BIL in my prayers for his upcoming surgery! Yes, keeping up a good schedule with the Doc is a good thing to do. I see mine every 6 months. Then I see the Allergist, the Dermatologist, the eye doctor, the podiatrist.... That comprises most of my social life these days I think. Went to the Dentist yesterday for a teeth cleaning. By the time I got out of there I was handed an estimate of work needing to be done of $5,200!!! Most of it I already knew would likely need to happen. Been having a few twinges lately from a permanent bridge over a missing bicusped. I figured I probably had a problem with one of the teeth it is anchored to. A tooth I opted last year to get filled rather than pay for a crown is now cracked.... That one now will get a crown, and a small cavity on one of the few teeth that haven't been crowned yet... The Dentist also asked me to write a recomendation for the Silver Beaver Award in Scouting for a member of the Troop Committee he works with (my old troop). Before I left he said, give me the estimate.... Crossed out the first estimate and gave me a $700 discount on the work... Still pricey, but a bit better on my bank account. The one thing none of my insurance will pay for is dental.
Need to head over to the Pharmacy to pick up a couple Rx's. One for me and one for Blackie the cat. Then I'm heading down cellar to do some model railroading for a change!
Later!
Garry, don't think of that as "bad results." In our engineering world, troubleshooting and isolating the problem is halfway to getting it fixed, so it's actually "good results." "Bad" is when they can't figure out what's wrong. I remember having a shoulder injury that wasn't getting better, and the doctor told me I had a torn rotator cuff and needed surgery. I was thrilled, because it was going to get fixed.
Ray, where are the teeth with the cracks? Over the past couple of years, I've had that happen to two crowned teeth. I thought I'd be looking at new crowns, but Doctor Diane (who also gives me old dental tools for my layout) said to just take them out, since they were way in the back. I asked how it would affect my bite, and she said, "To tell you the truth, you probably won't even notice it." She was right.
MisterBeasleyRay, where are the teeth with the cracks?
These are not second Molars, which would be the only ones I would even consider not fixing.... The bridge goes from first bicuspid to the first molar on the upper Right, and the other one that needs a crown is the first molar on the upper Left.... The second bicuspid on the Lower Left needs the filling. 'Tis expensive, but I feel blessed to have enough $$$ coming in in retiremeht to be able to pay for stuff like this. Just means I will have to put off buying that Tesla I want for a couple more years....
Got my Rx's filled. Now I have to take my Shure KSM27 large diaphram Cardioid Condenser Microphone down to church so it can be used at the Installation Service for Pastor Deb a week from tomorrow... Unfortuately I will not be able to attend the service as I will be working Train Crew that afternoon out at the museum. The following day is Diesel Day out there. Our biggest day of the year! Again, I will be working train crew for the day.
Jeff - Funny - makes one cringe a little - I have been in construction for 35 + years and I cannot tell you how many times as a supervisor I stand back and think " what was that guy thinking" I have seen a guy slice his belly open cutting drywall, another cut half his foot off, nail through just about every part of the body you can imagine and unfortunately I have had a death (stepped off a three story building ) and several that were permanently injured by building illegal scaffold ( fell five stories, amaze they lived ) . And after all that I am constantly preaching safety and they get attitudes about me trying to help them keep their body parts where they belong- go figure ! What is the difference between SSI and SS ?
Garry - will keep your in laws in prayer
Homus - I feel your pain on the dentist cost. I am saving now for dental work .

who, boy!
Where to begin?
First Garry: your BIL has a candle glowing for him. Even the "healthy people" have hidden problems!
Ray: Jeffrey: My mother had MS Multiple Sclerosis. FOr 25 of her 59 years she lived in a wheelchair. The last five years she had mini strokes, was ephasic/ couldn't talk, already was a quadraplegic by then and her vision was going. it was not pleasant.
TO all those who agree about healthy people thinking sick people "just lazy"...Until it strikes them, then never have feelings for it. Even with my father caring for my mother, and watching his mother die of cancer, he thought me "lazy" not sick. When HE had gallbladder trouble, it came on sudden, they diagnosied itin the hospital and scheduled surgery in 2 weeks. I battteld it for FIVE years before they decided to take mine out! He was in such misery and complained " I am in so much pain and can't get any relief" Afterwards , he apologized to me about the misery I went thoruhg for the 5 years I suffered. My father has had his health, but has had two more hospital stays {one for low sodium like KEN} and another minor ailment and he now has feelings for me and being sick. Took only 23 years for THAT to happen. MY father doesn't even have an aspirin in his house!
Ray: half my teeth are like the stars, they come out at night. And I will need more dental work done. we have parital coverage inusrance and 60% charitable discount on balance but still high...we are so low income we have that advantage.
At the hospital any Hospital {specifically} ONLY services are 100% charitable discount to us. even those {2 people} with incomes up to $54K a year can get a 25% discount! Ceck it out!
well, MOH just got home, so I will leave you all.
Howdy ..
Thanks for the thoughts, comments, prayers, lighted candles, etc.
Not sure why they will wait until Monday, but that is when my MI BIL has surgery. He has one artery 99% blocked, one 90% blocked and two blocked enough to need surgery also. It will be a quadruple bipass.
So, the whole family is worried through Monday.
Evening Dinners
Flo, Beer Please
Have not posted for a few days, I have been stopping by but just to tired to post. With the added time driving home from St Charles then working out I am poped.
Yep still Working Out! It been a month and a half now and still not tired of it. I have picked up a 1/2 inch on each arm. Going to get the Bike back on the road (Pedal Kind) and start riding 20 minutes a day for Cardio. (spell check) It is a 18 speed Mountain Bike, it has sat for 10 years outside. Pretty sure it will need new intertubes. How do I find the sizes I will need?
Fluorescent Light Question? Besides the kind of light output are there diffrent kinds of T-12 bulbs? I bought two new 4 foot T-12 fixtures (Wanted T-8 but could not get anyone to help) from Lowes. These are the one's I bought.

Theses are the bulbs I bought.

Reason I ask is I tried the old bulbs from the fixture I pulled down and one is good and works in the new fixture. Installed a new bulb on the other side and hung the light. Old bulb is steady, new bulb has a light display going on, strips and such.
So did I buy the wrong bulb, have a bad bulb or a bad fixture?
See you all Saturday after work, Ken
I hate Rust
Ken, is the old bulb a 40w? The new ones state they are 35w. You may have a missmatch for the bulbs causing a problem running on that ballast... Try using both new ones and see if they work. Just a guess...
Ken: Good to see you montain biking, that is my other summer hobby even though I havent been out for a bit. Chances are you are running 26" tire on your bike but you can check the sidewall. It will say something like 26 X 2.00 or slightly smaller. Any 26" tube would fit a 26 tire. I would take a guess that your not running tubeless tire?
Nice night out tonight, last night was cool and you could get a hint of fall in the air. I noticed when I got home it looks like one of the goldfish are about to die, hes kind of floating upside down. When he dies we will only have two, and the tank will go to the first person that wants it. Free of charge after the other two die. I feel bad for him beause hes kind of bobbing there. He may be a fish but I never want to see any animal in distress. I guess its Nature though.
I also picked up some school supplies today ( as I have mentioned I always stock up on stationery this time of year ) still have a ew more things I want.
Well I have to go switch the laundry over to the dryer and check to see if the fish is still alive.
Evening guys
Been super busy as of late.
Trainwise, I bought my first piece of brass... BUt then I discovered something about those Kato Superliners. It seems that I can only put 7 cars in a train before the couplers start pulling apart. I tried it with 9 on tuesday night at the club and it kept coming apart. There isn't really a way to put a Kadee on these cars (short of body-mounting) and keeping the close-coupling. Perhaps I will glue the knuckles on the "special" kato couplers shut. Although I am wondering if storing the train on a really tight radius track is causing the couplers to give or something.
Jeff, Good you can at least use the truck. But I am curious who maintenence falls under now, you or your father?
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, can I get refill for my decaf please?
Tonight I tryed to get a start on the install of the Freway Blaster horns I am puting in the PiP. The instructions over at Prius Chat make it sound very easy. indeed it would be if you have very skinney small hands..... I can barely get my hand in there after taking out the top plastic piece in the engione compartment. My son has smaller hands and is coming over tomorrow afternoon to help me. It should take less than a half hour if he can reach the stuff for me. It is supposed to be a big improvement over the little meep, meep of the stock silly little thingies...
While I was out there I saw my next door neighbor come out of his house walking their dog. I waved and went over to say hi. His right arm had a large bandage on it and I noticed some huge bruises up his arm. I asked him what he did to himself? He evidentally had just gotten home from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Last Wednesday he had a heart attack! They took him there from our local hospital by ambulance. The bandage and bruises are from all the IVs he had while he was there. He also showed me the "Patch". he has finally given up smoking! He is a good guy and a good neighbor so I hope he will recover completely and be arround for a ghood many more years. He is about 10 years younger than me...
Amongst a bunch of other things I did today, I managed to install some "J" bolts on the bridge. I used code 70 rail spikes cut down to fit in the ties for it.
I now have to figure out what to use for the blot heads on the top. I may try "O" scale rivets, but I doubt they will stick to the wood ties... I shall see.
Have great night!
PackerJeff, Good you can at least use the truck. But I am curious who maintenance falls under now, you or your father?
Good evening. Temp is 78° and humidity is 97%. Mostly clear. Looks like telescope conditions!Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up.
Morning all. Work today at 9AM so I can;t stay long. My "check engine light" came on yesterday after work, but it was extremely humid all day, and the humidity has been fluxuating all week (rainy and humid one day, dry and cold, cold and rainy, etc). I asked a car mechanic about it and she said "As long as the light is not flashing and the car is driving fine, you can drive on it". But I did get it scheduled for next week-need the oil changed as well. I drive maybe 4 miles a day, possibly up to 20 on sunday so yeah.
Well tomorrow will make up for it-12 hours or so with my model railroad club taking the modules out to a fair called the "Ceder Creek Funfest", plus I get to run my entire Wheeling train, Possibly my Pennsy Passenger train with the T1 on it, and who know what else. Plus I get to meet a guy who is building a FULL SCALE caboose to put on his property. He may also POSSIBLY let me get into the former Crown metal shops (the one who built all the amusement park actual steam locomotives). Have a great day all
(My Model Railroad, My Rules)
These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway. As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).
Morning guys,
The goldfish did die in the night, he was one of the bigger ones too. So we are now left with only two of them. I have to work today from 10-6:30 but am off tomorrow. I will drop back in later tonight.
