Evenin' folks!

Janie, a cup of hot chocolate would do me well right now.

Long busy day around here...  Rainy, thunderstorms, and a high of 75°F but mostly in the 60's.  Started the day at the museum in a sprinkly rain and ended it with a sprinkly rain.  Did have mostly dry periods during our open hours though.  Biggest "Trill" of the day was getting up to Midway Station and during the first load of passengers going South found not one but two nests of ground dwelling yellowjackets.  Those are the kind that are very aggressive and  don't like 80 tonners vibrating right above their homes....  Somehow we dealt with them (went though a couple cans of wasp spray) and nobody got stung....  Had some busy runs to start off the day, but the last couple were only 3 or 4 people a trip.  Ended up tieing up a half hour early and since it had started to rain I high tailed it down the road.  By the time I got home I was in a soaking rainstorm with distant thunderboomers and flashes of lightning rumbling every few seconds for a while.  My kitties were glad to see me....  I think they were scared

One of my NMRA members just got an article published in MR this month (September issue).  It is the article on P. 57, Clip and dip goldenrod trees by Ron Stacy.  I have operated on Ron's layout a few times and I can tell you his scenery is world class!  He and his wife Nancy are the poster "kids" for NCE.  Nicer folks you won't find anywhere!  I believe Ron is going to present a clinic on these trees at the NFR Region Convention next April.  His wife is planning on giving a clinic on the Role of Women in Railroading as well.

I had my author friend out at the museum read over the article I am writing.  He liked it and gave me some good tips and changes to be made in it.  You know what I will be doing with my spare time this week....

Tomorrow I have to drive to Rochester to pick up the repaired speaker and buy a couple items.  Then Wednesday will be spent installing two more speakers on the Dining Hall at camp and repairing an old monitor speaker we are using for the front end sound at the main stage.  Wednesday evening I have a Disrtict Boy Scout Membership Meeting.  Guess I will have my "Hour" done for this week and a few more....

On the bridge, I am now to the point where I have to fit the bridge itself to the Stone abutments.  That sounds like it should be easy, but some dimentions appear to different on what I built to what the drawing shows....  Wonder whose fault that is?  Want to get that project finished and installed on the layout this week too.

Hope you are all having a great weekend.  Prayers for everyone...  yep!  All of you.  Whether you want them or not.  Later!

Hi Guys,

Had dinner at my parents place tonight with the whole family. It was nice seeing everybody and having everybody there at once. I cant remember the last time that was. The time flew by and before you knew it people were leaving and it was time to go. I hope we can do that more often.

I might start reading my new book tonight. I am also putting together a new project for my strat o matic baseball game. Im going to replace the board that you use to play on with a baseball field dioroma. It will basically be a ball field a bit bigger then HO scale. I also am planning on starting a new season so have that on the hobby "to do" list.

Evening guys

More thunderstorms today. After work I picked up the battery and oxygen sensor I owed my father. I also picked up some oil to replace what I used of his and a new battery termincal clamp, as 1 of the ones I have doesn't work too well (tightened all the way, and it can still move)

Trainwise, I haven't done much. I'm thinking of downsizing and selling some stuff. I'm leaning towards selling that CB&Q SD40 I started working on. It's most of the way done, just needs MU hoses, cut levers, and a nose light. Already did the sideframe swap to get the right ones (I think the Q traded some SD7s in on SD40s). If I hadn't done the truck swap it probably would have been modded to an SDP40 (in bicentennial) but it's kinda late for that one. Also thinking of selling my group of walther's and rapido cars as I perfer to use the Kato Superliners.

Jeff, at least you have a cupholder... lol My car has one, but it is some weird and flimsy fold-out deal...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Did preventive maintenance on the truck today. Engine oil was a half quart down so topped it up. Coolant full. Transmission oil full. I discovered I have a little problem due to the trucks size. I can just reach the engine oil dipstick and pull it out. I can just touch the filler cap. At five foot eleven I'm not considered short. I can't climb up on the bumper like others do. Instead I used a concrete block to stand on. I also changed the license plate frames as the old ones were garbage and I changed out the lock gas caps. The old ones were on there about fifteen years and there's I don't know how many sets of keys floating around. Last but not least I modified the drink holder on the dash. The way it was a bottle could and would fall over forty-five degrees to either side. I put some redneck ingenuity to work. I got hold of a three inch PVC pipe coupling, cut part of the middle out of it, glued one part to bottom section of the holder and the other part to the top. Drinks don't tip very much now.

Afternoon all, Hope you are having a better weekend than I have.  Someone shortchanged me at work for 20 dollars, that I had to pay back at the end of the night yesterday.  Oh well, Well at least Friday night was a good night-loaded up 8 HO scale modules to take on the road next Sunday for a display as a club-plus an N scale layout as well.  Minus the shortchanging, work's been okay and still getting decent hours or so.  Have a good day everyone.

Hi Guys

Made it to the hobby shop to pick up a few things. One of them is the book called the V&O story. I have been wanting to get it for years but kept putting it off until I decided that I should gte it now before I couldnt find it anymore. I also picked up some rail ties ( plan on doing a couple gons filled with old ties ) and also picked up some HO wood crates which I have already applies primer too and will wait a couple days for it too fully dry before painting.

We are going to dinner at my parents place tonight, the whole family is going to be there. I also think im getting a cold as I have been all stuffy today with watery eyes, but then again it could be my allergies. Talk to you guys later on tonight.

I may have a coffee tonight and start reading my book.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday breakfast buffet please. Thanks.

Galaxy- Yup, I too read all your posts as I do with  others. No not all the lymerics are of interest, but not all things offered on tv appeal to me either. But they may to others and quite often there is one or two I enjoy so keep it up.

Now that being said to G, there are times do to the frequency of my visits and the amount of posts posted, I have to skim to get through due to time. But it in no way reflects on my interest in what each of us is doing. Remember, I’m from a small town and am still there. As per tradition, we love to be nosey on what others are doing. It’s in the blood.

Thanks for the kind “good to see you” ‘s. Rest assured if anything happens to me, Brenda has been instructed to post the infoYes. So, my absence is mostly due to other things and, well like I said before. No railroad stuff at all to report. Unlike Ulrich who I must say is going along fabulously.

Ken- I thought Chorizo was PortugeseHmm. And I don’t know why sellers always put that high price on an item as a comparison. No one that I know of pays that any attention. Especially when you see most times no other retailer sells it at that price anyway. They know it's just a price they put out there. "20% to 25% off everyday!!!" It's still the same price to 5 bucks more than you pay most other places. But, if their experts tell them that’s what sells an item to a customer….hey. Who am I to say otherwise. I’m just a customer

Welp, got the nephew married off last night. Well, not technically my nephew, actually Brenda’s nephew. But well, you know. Pretty wedding and reception. The wedding itself took place at a farm outside Springfield on the other side from us but past Castle Trains. The LHS I patronize the most. Or at least I did and will again once this dry spell passes. I kinda wanted to stop in, but took note it was at least still openYes.  I do, I must admit, have time to work a bit on the railroad but…well. Sometimes I just say nahEmbarrassed, I’ll watch a bit of tv instead. I need to get in that room and since it still does double duty as a storage room for my construction type tools, get it rearranged and some underlayout type shelving installed. THAT would be the best waste of time I could spend. If you know what I mean. I’m back to wading through stuffSigh.

Say….haven’t heard from J.R. in a while or did I miss him. Hope he’s doin ok.

Welcome to the new guys. Always good to meet new folks.

Best get going, got some things to do before we head out for dinner. Was told of an Asian restaurant called Hawaiian BBQ that serves more Asian food than Hawaiian or Island or whatever. Even though a huge part of Hawaiian food is…Asian style I guess, is supposed to be very good. The guy with the Vietnamese wife ate there and called me yesterday afternoon to tell me. Actually it was his wife that was most excited to tell me. She seems to be very interested in my sampling of Asian foods, especially Vietnamese (that and she wants to remain on the very short "just come over anytime and pick Blackberries" list I'm sure). We have two rules 1. No eggs with baby birds already formedIck! . And 2. Don’t tell me what it is until after I ate itZip it!. THAT is very important when dealing with an Asian. Especially one who wasn’t born over hereIndifferent. I tell her she’ll make a fantastic Grandma someday with her “Want something to eat? Here, eat some of this” attitude at such a young age.

Time to make like Ray and mow the yard.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

I dont know yet what I will do but one day this old desktop wont turn on, its pretty much on borrowed time now as I have to keep the side case off to keep it cool or it will just shut off.

Sounds like you need to clean the heat sink and replace the cooling fan.

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity. The high will be 85°, cloudy with a fair chance of rain.

I think today I'll just take it easy and do a bunch of nothing. Watching some A-Team episodes and Star Trek Voyager episodes seems like a good use of my time.

Morning guys,

Hot and humid out already as I was out watering the plants. I have to go to the hobby shop to pick up some items today and have been thinking alot lately about maybe getting a Ipad. My desktop is on the way out and have used a ipad at my parents house and like them. Im used to the interface as I have a iphone and you can do pretty much everything on one of those things that I could do on my PC. The wife has a laptop too but its getting older.

I dont know yet what I will do but one day this old desktop wont turn on, its pretty much on borrowed time now as I have to keep the side case off to keep it cool or it will just shut off.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases. Beer

 Boy I am tired.

Work Front Well we where busy but only 2 people from the flyer. Most came in fron the signs we had along the highway. Most of them where looking for junk. On paper we had around $4000.00 in sales but a lot of them are Nancy Speialty, $20.00 dollars down layawy? Whistling

Workout Front Boy it was a big dissapointment! One of three things may have happened.

1 Added a side shoulder lift. Hold weights straight at your side and slowly raise them to a straight out postion and slowly lower them. Now in there self they where easy, they could have tired other muscels.

2 Had not worked the shoulders or chest for 5 day's? Hate to think I would lose what I gained so quickly but could be.

3 Was distacted. When I got home my wife gave me a NSF letter from the bank? Hmm So that kept going thought my mind, how did I bounces a check?

Sunday I work the arms and we will see how that goes. It has only been 3 days off and hope for better results.

NSF Well it was on paper only. I looked at my account and saw what happened. My paycheck is dated for Thursday. I went to the bank on Wednesday afternoon and made sure the teller was on Thursday and dposted my check. I then went and bought gas. Gas Station said it was done on a Wednesday but my check did not hit till Thursday and I could use the funds as soon as it was deposted. So there was no NSF charge.

 See you all Sunday

Howdy ... .... What's up?. .. Oh. Ray is conducting a "sting operation". ...Don't bug us.

Jeff ... Perhaps you should get a caboose grab iron and weld it on your truck so you can get in and out. Big Smile Kidding of course. .... Looks like a very nice telescope. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

JohnBoy ... Glad you stopped in here at the diner.

I spent the day at an annual political shindig in Fancy Farm, KY. Of course, I'll adhere to the forum rules and not try to promote a candidate or a politcal view. Contact me directly if you are interested in that. I saw the KY governor, both US Senators, the US Congressman fir western KY, various other elected officials, and candidates in the next election. ... In this event, the polticians avoid nasty, below-the-belt attacks. Instead, they act more like friendly rivals. They razz each other with jokes they make up about opponants. .... The croud behaves themselves, but of course, cheer or boo based on their opinions of what is being said. ... It's a fun day with a huge BBQ lunch.

This KY tradition has been an annual event since about 1880.

Happy Model Railroading

Good evening. Temp:75°, humidity:93%. I was out and about earlier getting some things I needed. Also stopped to get gas. $100 for 30.04 gallons, twenty-three in the front tank, seven in the rear tank. No fun fund this month. This evening I enjoyed what I consider a luxury. Ham,Swiss cheese and a bit of mustard on Ritz crackers. I have it only once every three or four months so I enjoy it as much as I can. Tonight I'm watching the first episode of season two of Star Trek Voyager, 'The 37's'. It was kind of funny seeing a 1936 Ford pickup in the cargo bay of a starship and not to mention the truck was still in running condition! Speaking of trucks I had a slight mishap, actually two with mine today. First I was backing out of a handicap parking space. There was another vehicle parked in front of me and there was a concrete pillar behind me. The other vehicle was pretty close so I had to back up a bit. I hit the gas a little too hard and the truck smashed into the concrete and busted it off a foot above the ground. The trucks bumper has a small scratch on it. I'm not sure if it was already there or not. Management didn't seem concerned about it and I was allowed to go on my way. On the way home the second incident took place. The alternator gauge nose dived and I smelled something burning. I pulled over, popped the hood and grabbed the fire extinguisher. The alternator harness had shorted out and caught fire. A quick blast from the extinguisher put it out and I disconnected it then drove to an auto parts store and got a replacement harness and installed it. Everything is working normally again. An inspection of the damage showed the the harness had been chaffing against the alternator bracket for some time. I took out some insurance against a future occurrence by wrapping some electrical friction tape around the new harness. I also routed it so it wasn't in contact with the bracket. A short trip to a car wash to wash off the powder from the extinguisher and I was on my way home once again.

Other than the above it was a slow day.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I believe the eye piece and everything is installed correctly, I wouldn't know for sure. One of these days I'm planning of buying an expensive one if I feel like it.

On mine there's three lens caps. It took a bit to find one of them and remove it. The diagnanal reflector and eyepiece are held in place by tension screws. These have to be adjusted so the lenses are all in line with each other or you're not seeing anything.

Ray : That happen to me a few years ago also. We were in the middel of a draught so it was a few weeks in between cuts. I went out and open the shed door ( had a weird feeling before I open it too ) as I slid the crappy doors open I pulled a wasp nest apart. They somehow made a nest in between the doors in those few weeks. I was stung a few times on the neck and face. I did what you did I sprayed the whole area down with the spray later that night at dusk. I still flinch to this day when opening those doors. My dad is allergic to bees stings but I so far am not. I have a record going too, I have been stung 12 years in a row by either a bee, wasp or hornet. Last year I thought I was in the clear and got stung on the inside of my leg in later August. The wasp or hornet, forget what it was got me a couple times. So far this year I have been in the clear, but now I said it I will get stung tonight.

We dont have those african killer bees here. They are pretty scary arent they? Jeff you have them down your way dont you? How were they introduced again? werent they bred between two sepeies of bees and it got out on control?

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, I'll have a red hot dog tonight with a bit of organic ketchup and some onions on it...  Actually that is what I am having tonight along with a couple nice ears of fresh local sweet corn and the best part is, I will also have some fresh green beans out of my garden...  The beans got most eaten by some varmint when they sprouted so I have about 5 plants left.  I will get a few meals from those that remained though.  Same thing with the summer squash.  One of the 3 Zucchini plants that survived has already given me three squash and right now has 3 more on the vine.  Yellow squash will be ready in a few days as well.  Onions, carrots, and parsnips will all be a bumper crop so at least I will get some things from the garden.

I mowed the back half of the lawn today.  Set the mower down a notch to its "Summer" height possition.  It is cutting about 1/3 inch shorter and so was working to cut off the heavy undergrowth.  I used the power in about 1 and 1/2 of the two working batteries for it.  Between runs I decided to do a few things in the house and get some water.  Also wanted the first battery to cool down before I plugged it in to charge.  Came back out about an hour later, opened up the doors to the shed.  Plugged in the spent battery and pulled the mower out of the shed and down the little ramp.  Then went to close the doors.  I saw a wasp come and land in my beard...  Brushed it off and it appeared to be a bit upset with me, nailed me right on the inside of my wrist.  Didn't really get me bad, but I looked up and saw about 10 more buzzing around, so I took off and looked over the situation from about 10' away.  There was a rather large wasps nest in the door molding at the top of one of the doors....  I went and got my trusty can of wasp and hornets spray and got most of them....  Any remaining will either come back to nest and get killed or go somewhere else.  Can't figure out how I never noticed it before.  It was obviously there for a while.

Jeffrey, nice telescope!  Have fun with it.

I spent another 3 or 4 hours today finishing the "First, Final, Rough Draft" of the article.  I printed out what I have so far to take out to the museum tomorrow.  A mentor will be out there so I will have him look it over and give suggestions so I can write the "Second, Final, Rough Draft" of it......Whistling

Gonna disapear for a while and do some more weathering of the Stone abutments for the bridge project.

Hey Jeffery I also have a telescope to look at the stars at night, but one big problem I can't see though it.

Sure you have the reflector and eyepiece set correctly? Focus is set? I checked the focus on mine by sighting in on a limb of a pine tree a bit over a mile away. I used the lowest mag eyepiece (20mm 30X) and I could see ants crawling on the tree limb. Using the highest mag eyepiece (12.5mm 48X) I could sight in on an individual ant. Not bad for a little 50mm telescope. If you're using the viewfinder to aim the telescope the viewfinder must first be aligned correctly. Aim the telescope at a utility pole, tree or other immovable object. Without moving the telescope carefully adjust the two screws on the viewfinder (up/down, left/right) until the red dot of the viewfinder is on the same place on the target. Where the red dot is is where you're looking. When I get a clear night I'll be taking a look at the craters on the moon.

It's been a boring day today and it's started to rain a little (I stand corrected it pouring with thunder and lightning outside) and tv went out so talk to you later. Bye.

Who's working today in here ?   Oh, it is Jamie,  Well Jamie i'll have a virtual RBF, thats all I can get down and that is only in my dreams.

Jeff, ol'boy..   If the telescope works as good as it looks it should be a winner for you.  Glad your Dad sprung some and did the deal for the truck.  In regard to the step, if you can't move the one from the right to the left side and you need something to pull yourself in until you can get that repaired. Use a piece of rope or an old long belt around the mounting bracket for the seat on the right side and just leave it laying on the seat so that you can reach in, grab it and give yourself a pull into the cab. Hope something like that will make it easier for you.

Out for now to do a few repairs I need to tend to.

Good morning. It's 73° with 94% humidity. Cloudy with a chance of rain. The high will be 85°.

Only plan for today is to assemble the telescope and get some photos of it. I'm not going to use the flimsy tripod that came with it. Instead I'll be using a Velbon VE-3 tripod. It's heavier, easier to use and won't get knocked over easily.

Jeff: Truck looks in great shape. Is there wany way you could have a small portable stool you can take in the truck to make it easier to get in and out? maybe mount some type of handle to it so you dont have to crouch over to pick it up once your in the truck?

Getting out isn't a problem. Just slide out and get my left foot down first. That's easy. Getting up into the cab can be challeging. Get the right leg up first then I have to grab something to pull myself up onto the seat. When I can get my left leg up I can push on the floorboard and get all the way in. A permenantly attached step or step rail would be best. A stool presents many problems and safety concerns of it's own.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I could use a refill on the dark roast coffee please....

So far a nice day here in the Finger Laskes Region.  Currently 77°F outside with the sun peeking through a hazy sky.  Could get a couple thunderboomers late this afternoon.

I spent about 6 hours yesterday writing the article that was supposed to be done last Fall...  I did a mock up with photos in InDesign to help me get what I wanted to say down where I could have some idea of what to write.  I'm a musician not a writer for crying out loud...  Ask me to write a symphony and that I could do...  But a short article?  Anyway, I shut off the computer a few minutes before midnight yesterday, and have been sitting here since 10:30 AM rewriting a lot of it.  Have to take a printed copy of the article to have a friend check it over on Sunday.  This is a gentleman who has published many articles and has offered to help me with this little project.

Need to find some time to mow a bit of lawn today as well.

Hope all of you have a safe and enjoyable day today!  Jeffrey, no drag racing with your new hot rod.  Ya hear! Whistling

Later!

I was curious Ulrich are you anywhere near famous race circuits such as the Nurburgring or Hockenheim?

Afternoon, Folks!

Just a quick stop over to say hello. It is sweltering hot & humid, so we don´t spend much time outside. This weather is no fun!

A big welcome to the new guys from the other side of the Big Pond!

Jeff - I like that set of new wheels you´ve got there! Make it red and it´s mine ... Incidentally, I made my driver´s license on a Ford F150 - back in 1973...

I will be back home on Monday - already looking forward to it!

CU and make it a great time!
