Evenin' folks!
Janioe, just a quick cup of decaf...
Will be shutting down the computers very soon. Looks like tonight will be another gully washer for the Finger Lakes area. Thubnderboomers are starting up soon and will continue all night. The strom is moving in from the South and will just keep moving up through this area. Just what Penn Yan needs after yesterday's flooding! A local news blog from the Yates County area did a photo shoot on the damage there.
Galaxy, even without eklectricity you should be able to light the burners of the stove using a match or other such thing. At least mine will. One nice thing about a gas stove. The oven won't work but you should be able to use the burners. Gald you finally heard from the installer!
I'll check in , hopefully tomorrow morning!
Stay safe and dry out there.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
well,
RAY and Jeffrey {and ME}: we were a hair's breadth of being sooooooo right. I had literally walked in the door, greeted the anxious cat with one hand, and picked up the phone in the other to read the Caller ID to see who might be the flashing message on the machine when the phone lit up and came alive in my hand! It was the installer! Had I been 30 seconds later in arriving home, I would have missed his call! He will be here about 2PM tomorrow to install the stove, FINALLY. I asked if he needed directions, he siad no, he knew where it was. Yeah, we'll see!
{the message caller was FIL}
Now, Not 20 minutes later Lowes called to verify we were having delivery...see Lowes itself was not the problem, the subcontracted installer is! ANyway I verified it was set up for 2 pm tomorrow, and then Lowes said they would call Saturday to make sure it is working all right. I said... yeah, IF we don't have flooding that knocks out the power! {the gas stvoe has electric 110 for the elcetronic oven controls and electronic igniters}. The Lowes guy said "yeah i guess we are getting about 3 "? I said yeah, and if it floods out our substation again, it will be 5 days before I can tell them it works!.
Saw the psychiatrist and agreed the old clinic is only treating half my issues, but he wants full blood work and to consult my GP before a med. It will finally treat the manic part of my bipolar issues. currently and for years they have concentrated on the depression part, ignoring the mania. They have to now catch up because the mania is getting out of hand now. Maybe yo'all have noticed me almost blog-positng here several times a day..IF you even read them. That woudl be a current Mania issue!
It also seems the old clinic is apparently going to be de-funded so that is why they tried pawning me off on my GP, but he only knows a little about everything, and not a lot of specifics. The Psychiatrist went over some meds, past and present and allergies, and I told him that is WHY I want a psychiatrist on my case.
Jeffrey: he {the psych.} also said something disturbing that may directly affect you too, but won't directly affect me. YET. Give me till tomorrow to PM you about it!
well, MOH is now home too and we are both beat, so bed will come early.
later, or rather til tomorrow morning!

My Mom bought herself a set of earrings. The left one said "IN" and the right one said "OUT." She had a great sense of humor.
Galaxy, does your FIL have AAA? If you know anyone who's got it, they will give you a great set of marked-up maps for any driving route you'd like, absolutely free. It's also good security for someone who is not mechanically-inclined when they're out of town. I wouldn't buy it myself, but we have it for my wife and daughter, neither of whom could tell a carburetor from a pretzle-bending machine.

Well I was right! Changed out the coil on the van, cranked the engine, it turned over twice and fired right up.Nothing else going on.

Evening Gang!
I have been quite busy all day long. Petra´s back is still hurting quite a lot, so I had to take over all household chores today. Two full loads of laundry, shopping, cooking, cleaning the bathroom - you name it, I did it.
I still found the time to finish off the plaster w*rk on my layout. No more big mess, only little ones
Galaxy - I am with Ray on the issue of your new stove. I´d have a few choice words with the manager of this place. Tell him the restaurant bill will be on him if the stove is not delivered and installed by tomorrow 17.00 hrs. When we moved into our firts house, Petra being close to giving birth to Christian, the kitchen was delayed by two weeks, they told me. Believe me, it was delayed by only one day and even that day cost them a fortune! Report them to the BBB!
Y´all have a great time!
Edit: I just saw, this is post # 6,500! Whatever you chowhounds are going to have - all the food and the drinks are on me!
French Roast coffee in a Burlington Northern mug, please.
Have a great day all.
Cheers! Rob
howmusI would certainly have a "Friendly Chat" with the dept manager at Lowes.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a side of sausage links, and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee to keep my R&GV RR mug filled for a while.
Galaxy, I think Fetridge's Law will likely come into play here... The law reads, "Nothing ever happens unless it is no longer favorable for it to happen." I bet you breakfast tomorrow morning in the diner that the installer calls while you are gone! I would certainly have a "Friendly Chat" with the dept manager at Lowes... I only buy major appliances at a store downtown. Locally owned and operated business (Discount Appliances). They are a bit more expensive than the "Big Box" places, but installation is included in the price and they show up within a couple days as agreed upon and hook up and haul away the old at no extra cost, making them the same as or less expensive in the long run as the "Big Box" ripoff stores. And... The profit they make stays here in town rather than going to the pockets of some Billionairs!
According to the weather guessers it is cloudy outside this morning which doesn't explain the definite shadows that the trees and stuff are making... I like shadowy days as it means the roof is paying for itself.... Currently74°F outside with a high of 80°F later this afternoon.
I have to get the photos resized to use in the slide show today, and at least get started putting the slide show together.
Catch all of you later!
Good morning. It's 53° with 79% humidity. The high will be 75° and it'll be sunny.I had a doctors appointment this morning but had to call in and reschedule it for a week from now. Couldn't get the van to start. Seems like the coil is having some kind of a fit as I can hear it pop or crack once in a while and it gets hot quick. I'll put the spare coil on it later and see what happens. I bet it'll start then. Right now I'm not getting my hands anywhere near that hot thing. I did that once already and had some nasty blisters to show for it. That was one time that I was glad I couldn't feel anything.Being as my plan for the morning has been knocked into a cocked hat I now have no plans except to change the aforementioned coil later. Maybe I can watch some TV or a movie or I could tear down a loco and put it back together and see if I end up with any parts left over. A friend will be bringing me an Apple IIc to fix but that probably won't be until next week as he has a pretty ugly work schedule. Well(deep subject), I could pull an old Canadian made Apple II Plus compatible out of the closet and work on it for a while. That's all for now. Be back later.
well
my FIL, in his infinite wisdom, has decided to take a trip by car {meaning DRIVING-not exactly his strong suit right now} to the mid-atlantic states and then on to FL to visit some relatives he "may not see again".
Now, this is the man, mind you, who needs a GPS directional to go anywhere and can get lost going to get the mail, and his mail is delivered through a slot in his front door!
He literally uses the GPS to get around our city/area and he's lived here for what, now, 47 years, half his life???
Now he called up yesterday and wnated "travel sites"...so I gave him the names of expedia.com and trivago.com, to name a few...that was one too many for him.
WHat he DID NOT say, was thst what he really wanted was MAPS for TRAVELLING SOUTH. I would have sent him to mapquest.com and google maps, then IF he had told me what he really wanted to know!
I don't think he has any idea what he is in for with travel on interstate high rise fly-overs around, say Baltimore or DC area. They were just starting them or working on them-we could see them- when MOH and I went to FL to Disney World in 2003. MAYBE they made it easier for him to drive the highways or not. "Dun't no" as Ricky Ricardo would say.
WE don't think it safe for him to do this, but he wants to go and so no talking him out of it. He also thinks he can get to FL in less than 2 days. MOH last did it in 2 days and we ourselves were younger then than we are now. and with 2 drivers!
My father, on the other hand is contemplating one last trip to the mid-west for the smae reason, only a trip made in a very long day many years ago now takes him at least 2 days, and in reality he knows he really needs 3 days to get there. and then of course 3 days to get back home. He is more realistic than the FIL. My father knows he is good for about 6 hours max of driving then needs a break. He doesn't yet know if he will do it or not. I will ask today whne I see him.
well, NO CALL yet from the installer. Now watch, while i am at Mental Health and MOH is at work, they will call! IF NOT, tomorrow morning, first thing, I have a few miscelany items to return to Lowes, and will give the store manager a strong piece of my mind! We bought it on Snday and 4 business days have gone by without even a single call from the installer??? and we PAID extra $119 for installation?? Maybe I am due to get a return break on the stove or the installation charge. Only the guy from Lowes has called for followups on the installation, but if they guy they have hired to work as an installer for them CAN'T do what..a 10 minute connection job? and an hour for driving here and delivery? then they need somone else! I don't know what Lowe's pays him out of that fee they charged me, but even at $50, for an hours worth of work ,ain't bad potatoes! Probably not as profitable as flipping houses and making $100's or even $1000's per hour!
I would be more happy if we had heard from him and he couldn't get to us until mid-next-week,than to not hear yet from him at all!!!
ah well, we will see what today will bring!
I must get ready as soon i will leave for MH.
havea grand day all you folks!
As it's been raining here all morning, and they are calling for severe thunderstorms later, I suppose any outside chores will be on hold. So it looks like the living room, dining room & foyer will get cleaned. I should try to get the kitchen floor scrubbed as well. I was hoping to wash the car & get a coat of wax on it this week, but that will depend on the weather as well. They say the weekend should be dry though. That's good, as the plans are for more railfanning Saturday & Sunday. Have a good one...

Good morning!
No, it's not. The Bruins lost, and are now out of the playoffs. I will say, though, that Montreal was the better team and deserved to win.
I picked up Penny at the airport yesterday. I decided to just stay at work late and then drive into Boston to pick her up. If I'd gone home, I would just have had to re-trace my steps, but going in the bad-traffic direction. My company is very strict about working your 40 hours, no more, no less, so I'll take off an hour early tomorrow to make up for it.
It looks like we've got about a week of wet weather on the horizon, so hopefully I'll get that depot finished soon.
Morning all, I am not sure what I want for breakfast so surprise me lol. Not sure what Iam going to do today since the grass is still wet,and it is supposed to rain today. I work later today so yeah I cannot get into anything serious. Then again, I may plan out a diorama to take photos of my equipment with. I'm glad the storms missed here, but we got the rain.
Bear: Thanksfor the link, that's some impressive work.

Ray: I've seen the pics of Penn Yan, NOT good!
We may be in for it on Friday...we are expecing up to 5" of rain ourselves...what is now dumping on the SE states, including the FL panhandle again..just recently devastated!
They are now announcing flash flood watches for Friday for us down here...Naturally that could change to warnings!
IF, I say IF, you don't hear from me for awhile, you can assume it is because we DON't have power as once again our electric substation is under water! You'd think after 3 major times within 6 years {'05;'06;'11} , they would DO something about it...but NO, that would cost to much money!
Not looking forward to it!
Nothing much happened today. Got the wound vac dressing changed this morning, did some minor work on two locos. used a can of Flex-Seal to spray a seal over the seams around the outside of the window in the west wall of my bedroom, did a little work on one of my //e's. I also did some looking around online. I found a used but good DVD set of season one of Star Trek: Voyager for $14 (costs about $70 new) so I grabbed it. Good a time as any to start my 'Star Trek: Voyager' collection. Six more seasons to go. I already have all three seasons of the original series, the animated series, all four seasons of Enterprise, all the movies including those of the new alternate reality of Star Trek ('Star Trek' and 'Into Darkness'). When I have all seven seasons of Star Trek Voyager I guess I start on the seven seasons of Deep Space Nine. The Next Generation will likely be last as it's my least favorite of the Star Trek spinoffs.Well I have an appointment with the heart doctor in the morning. Just a followup from my leg amputation surgery last year.Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Janie, just a decaf for me right now...
I managed to get a lot of things done today that absolutely had to get done today. Spent much of the day helping get the funds straightened around for the Venture Crew I am Commissioner for. The same people were running a pack that went poof! Not going to blame the leadership, but the lack of more depth of leadership did have a negative effect. I am in the process of trying to help a new bunch of Scouters get the defunct pack back up and running... Time will tell. Anyway I came home with three checks for various groups from the dispersal of funds from the old Pack. I also got my lawn rolled. Had enough rain last night to soften up the ground quite a bit (at least 2 inches). And finished picking the photos for the slide show for the Scholarship Dinner. I also tried out a Data CD with a movie on it (about bullying and respect) produced by kids from the local Boys and Girls Club on the old laptop. I have had the CD for several weeks and have run the movie without problems on my iMac. Of course the movie is in WMV format. I have a little reader program on the iMac that can read the Windoz files without any problem. I don't have that little app on my old, old laptop... Can't put it on my laptop either as the laptop is OS 10.4 and the reader (Flip4Mac) needs OS 10.7 or higher. So.... need to figure out what the best solution is before next Wednesday!!! I am hoping the guy at the Boys and Girls club can just save it as an mp4 file. That I know I can run on the old laptop.
Guess Penn Yan is a real mess! The Finger Lakes Times ran a front page article http://www.fltimes.com/ showing several photos of the damage. They say Yates county got between 5 and 9 inches of rain last night! My son talked to a friend who lives in Penn Yan and he was told that on one street all the driveways are just slabs of concrete and blacktop with nothing underneath them now. He doesn't know whether he will be working tomorrow or not as they are without electric throughout most of the village. (He works in Penn Yan.) I got an email from the property committee chairman form Boy Scout Camp. Camp didn't fair well as the same line of storms came across Seneca Lake and hit camp. He wrote, "Just to let you know Camp did not emerge unscathed by the recent flooding that has been reported in the news that affected Penn Yan. The Boathouse has suffered minor flood damage (mostly washed out stone), the boathouse lean-to (on the other side of the creek) is gone. The bridge at rifle was over topped and suffered some damage along with the main road from rifle to the small pond. Additionally many smaller culverts were blown out around camp along with additional road damage throughout camp. Good news is that Pooler's pond is now full as it is higher than the metal dock the OA put in two years ago (it is adjustable so that will be an easy fix). Conrad and Patricia are ok." People mentioned are the Camp Ranger and his wife. Looks like there will be a few more work days out there before opening for the season...
I called a good Scouting Friend of mine who lives in another town nailed by the line of storms. His street was mentioned as sustaining the worst damage in that town. It is a short street so I was worried about him. He and his wife (and there house) are fine, but a few houses down from him a huge tree came down doing some damage to property.
My son came over and we loaded the roller and the tractor into my trailer so he can get it home. I need to run the old rottotiller one last time to loosen the soil by the fence hoping my sister will seperate a bunch of hostas and give me a bunch. Then I am giving the rottotiller to my son with the understanding I can borrow it if needed. They are planning on putting in a garden this year.
I guess I have run on long enough. Stay safe out there!
Good Evening Dinners and Ulrich
Flo, you know what I want!
Mix day at work. Had a Be Back of Davies in today, normally that is a good sign! Spent 2.5 hours with her, and she did not buy anything! Well, I think she will be back but not holding my breath. Last customer of the day came in at 4:18 PM, she said she was looking for a twin for a guest room. That normally means I waant some dirt cheap! Talk to her for a while and she asked me if we sold Temper Pedic and told he we uses to but we dropped them. Told her while I worked at Mattress Giant we offred them and I hated them, which I did and why! I showed her one of ours and I will be darned, she bought one in a queen! What I thought was going to be a us less effort paid off with a $140.00 commission!
Todd Yep it does sound like your grill is in better shape than mine! Burned the meat some due the burnner not burning evenaly (spell check) due to rust holes in it. It will cost me around $50.00 to fix again. Saw a sweet Stainless Steel Char Broil at Sears for $350.00, but being poor more than likely it will stay a dream.
Ulrich will try my darnest to get to K-10 Thursday after work and pick up your spikes. Mailing them, that depends on when I am off next week. So, if you had the money you would like to try DCC? I still have the old Bachmann E Z Command. It is as bare bones as it gets, but it works.
Got to run, Ken
Todd, this picture is sort of amid at you, notices anything formulair?

I hate Rust
1} on the new vacuum: it works great! It practically moves along itself! It has adjustable floor heights so that make it work better, and even though MOH had just vacuumed the LR, I did it again with the new vacuum and guess what? it pulled another 3" {in the dirt cup about 6-7 inches across} in of dirt out of the rug! MOH was surprised! It was only $69 too, so that is a decent price. It also seemed to not lose suction {the old one lies about that}
2} still no call from the Lowes installer! I am out tomorrow afternoon with 2 mental health appts, one with the psychiatrist and one wiht the therapist. MOH will be at work. want to GUESS when he/she will call????? I am nto getting happy by the day here. I owuld have sought out HD's timeline for installing things, OR bought the electric stove which would have been delivered yesterday!
3}Naturally MOH is blaming the delivery problem on me. ANd my choice of gas over electric. MOH said "I walked away and let you choose. You were hemming and hawing over which one, I said I wanted the gas, though, but YOU made the final choice!" SO now it is MY fault. BUT I keep reminding my dear OH, If I had chosen electric, I NEVER would have heard the end of it!
4} WHen MOH went to mow the lawn Sunday, came in with a large piece of roof sealer and asked if it was ours. I siad if it was in our yard, probably. It was aobut a 1/4" thick. MOH had insisted {and was the onlyone who could fit in FIL's skinny waders in he waist-deep snow so as to avoid getting stuck or wet} on going out with the roof rake to rake off some of the excess snow. I hollered out to MOH NOT to Bang the roof with it! GO gentel! Well, NOW guess what? the seal coating is coming off! Doe sMOH ever listen to me??? i MAY have to take over the arduous chore of mowing as MOH won't have much time for it. It takes me so long as my asthma gives me fits and walking/pushing the mower is not good on my back. BUt I may have to struggle and just take a lot of breaks.
5} train nut friend stopped by. His interest in MRR ing has faded, much like mine, though. They have their own financial mess as he is disabled and the wife works 2 jobs too, like our household. Only difference is I pay hte bills on time everytime, and they never do. Then they wonder why they are paying 25% interest on their car loan for one car and 18% on the other. They/he can't really afford MRRing on ANY level, Except to have the one el cheapo trainset he has and to build with cereal boxes nad dirt from the back yard or driveway. He can't even afford the layout base! he sets up/tears down on the Dining room table, until the wife throws a hissy fit.
Jimmy Braum: you have a good start on the weathering of the PRR box car. There really is no "right or wrong" with weathering. Two identical cars of the same type in service for the same amount of time in the same conditions will weather differently! what I can suggest is that you need more "rust flows" down the sides and maybe more "Dirt" along the bottom of the sides. I f you do a search for "Robby P." or "Robby Putnam" on the forum here, you should uncover some of his weathering examples. He could remarkably take a pic of a 1:1 rr car and take a model just like it and weather it and make it so you almost could NOT tell which pic was which!
ULRICH:Sweet dreams of the little house of your dreams!
dinner will be parmasan breaded boneless pork chops fried in olivio oil, green beans and flavored rice.
Chocolate Buttercream frosted cake for dessert...I can do without it, but the price was so great I could not pass it up and MOH will thoroughly enjoy it {favorite}.
Calling it a day now - it´s 10.20pm in my neck of the woods, time to hit the hay!
CU all tomorrow!
The weathering powders that Micromark sells really works wonders huh? Yeah, not under the Tornado watch yet, but it is so darn muggy here and the skies are getting ugly as well.
Did I overdo this one?
Sir Madog Galaxy - when can I move in? Me wants!
Galaxy - when can I move in? Me wants!
Weather may be turning nasty in my neighborhood-just hope I don't get blown away to Oz with the Pittsburgh area probably going to be under a tornado watch. Otherwise, I am working on weathering a tichy trains flatcar deck, and a boxcar, will share some photos later.
Ray: sorry to hear that, but in the middle of the night when i got up, the TWC weather radar channel showed some nasty going on up that way, so I am not surprised!
Herr Ulrich: and anyone else who is interested! Here is a video of the small Widbey house that you like so much, and that I'd like to modify to make a bit more room. It is the video to go with the pictures we have previously seen, the video does it more justice:

I done spent $350 already today! the grocery bill was a bit higher than I usually spend. I also went to wally world and found a new vacuum I might acutally be able to use. It weighs only 9.6 pounds so is lightweight compared to the 24 lb other vacuum. I should have an easier time pushing it around for my back. It also is 'no reduced suction" and washable filters. The neatest feature {I hope} is the power upholstery/stair brush. It has adjustable height for bare florsand carpets, the old one doesn't and the belts burn out quickly on the old one. I shall see soon.
MOH must have "heard" me looking at the vacuum because I came home and MOH had half way vacuumed the house..I hadn't gotten to it yet, but with that old heavy machine, I avoid it at all possible costs too!
i shall find out soon enough!
I'm Baaaaaccckkkk!
Meeting was only a preliminary... The couple from the old pack and the crew have to go get the signature of the old Treasurer at the rehab hospital where he is a patient and then we will go back down to the banck and take care of the rest of the paperwork this afternoon.
According to the Weather Channel we got .15 inches of rain last night. According to the wheelbarrow in my back lawn, we got between 1.5 and 2" of rain as it has about 3 inches of water in it. according to all the local news we got that much and will be getting much more in the next few days with flash flooding warning and wtches for most of central and western, NY. My basement is very wet today and the siphon has once again been started...... The Rochester News are also showing that Shortsville NY got nailed last night as well as Penn Yan. Most of the severe damage was on a short street next to what used to be the LV Yard in Shortsville. I have a very close friend from Scouts who lives on the street. They are are saying lots of home and property damage but no known injures reported. A barn, among other things blew down in the area. You can see a bit of it here. Some photos and a story about what happened in Penn yan as well.
I want to get the lawn rolled this afternoon if I can. Have to finish sorting the photos I have of the MLK Service last January. Then get the laptop up and running to start making the Slide show for the Scholarship Dinner next week... Getting verty tight on tme!
Later!
Good morning. It's 54° with 100% humidity. The high will be 68°, very cloudy with a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms. with Waiting on the call from the Home Health nurse. Otherwise no plans. The front USB ports on the HP are working again. It seems that somehow the driver for the host controller of those ports got dropped. Windows couldn't detect that the driver was missing. So I uninstalled that particular host controller. On the next full restart Windows reinstalled the host controller and the driver. It was probably Windows that dropped the driver in the first place. Who remembers Windows 95 Version A and it's infamous habit of dropping drivers? Install a sound board and suddenly you have no mouse control?Click image to play video.
Zoe, coffee to go! I have a meeting downtown in about 20 minutes with the old pack and crew I am commissioner for to rearrange $$$ and close one of the bank accounts.
If you have seen the news here in upstate NY, Yates County (right to the South of where I live) and the Village of Penn Yan are under a state of emergency due to some horrendous thunderstorms storms that came through here over night. I am fine about 10 miles North of where the main blast hit. Roads are washed out, bridges damaged, trees down and power out to a lot of homes and businesses. Penn Yan High School is being used as an Emergency Shelter... Penn Yan Schools are closed for the day (no ****).
I have more later!
