Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a sgort stack of buttermilk Pancakes with real NYS Maple Syrup, a couple sausage links, and lots of Dark Roast Coffee in my R&GV RR mug...

I am about ready to venture out and try to mow some lawn.  It is getting high and I know there are places still under water.  Just came up from the basement which has water over most of the floor in the workshop.  Got the siphon back up and running.  Will need to check it several times today.

Still have way too many ??? on items for the MLK Scholarship Dinner.  Will be doing some printing this afternoon and tonight I am sure.

Catch you all later!

Guten Morgan

Good Mornign

I have already been to Wally Wor.d and then to the grocery store {again}. I spent some money like we had it.

I had to go to Wally Wolrd to try to get those HD Night Vision Wrap around glasses. I got a pair to try as my night vision is just bad, I cannot distinguish the various shades of gray and such, and so I thought I'd try them. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO YOU ALL!!! I got a pair for MOH and MOH showed my FIL, who naturally wanted a pair! ANd then I thought I should get my Father a pair.....so off I went to where I got the other 2 pr....Wally WOrld, but naturally they were OUt of them. Then I remembered thinking I saw them at the grocery store so I went there. Naturally that is not the only thing I bought! They had some good beef markdowns so i picked up. and then they had the flavored H20's 6 pks for 10 for $10 so I bought more of those! Spent $125 there.

I also could not get out of wally world for less than $136, either, and I didn't even get what I went there for! The most expensive thing was an electric knife sharpener...it was $29-- because our knives are so dull you can't cut hot butter with them. those cheapo ceraminc ones don't work well, so I bit the bullet and bought the electric one. The next most expensives were2 moisture-wicking T shirts,,,, they work well so I picked up a couple more for me..they were about $10, then summer cutoff socks $7.50 pk of 3 x 2...so there blew about $70 right there! That was half the money I spent. Oh well, we need stuff and I had bought nothing but food and TP all winter long. Nothing really was  Want, it was pretty much all needs.

well, you all have a great afternnon...we may be going to a nearby "Chocolate adn Wine Festival"..weird combo, I know...

depend on how the OH feels when home form the grocery store job.

Good morning. It's 65° with 89% humidity. The high will be 82° with a few clouds.

I may make it into town this morning to try and get a large package to the post office. Supposedly they're open for a few hours on Saturday. Failing that I'll have to take it sometime during the week.

No other plans for today so I'll just take it as it comes.

Johnboy- We are both survivors. We prove Cancer can be beat. Just hang tight and do what the Doc's say. Not sure how old you are but I'm six weeks short of my 78th birthday. He has His plans for me.

Whistling   Well FLIP,

You have me beaten by a few years. I'll be 74 in November.

Johnboy out.............and off to bed.

My father has survived prostate cancer for the last 20 years. He chose a "cryosurgery option"-that is they super-quick-froze the prostate tissues. The idea is it damages the tissues of the prostate so that the cancer has "nothing to feed on".

He ocassionally has errant PSA results, but has lived the last 20 years without much trouble. I think there was some disappointment of one front{I think you can figure that out}, but at age age 60, he had to adjust his "expectations "downward anyway.

Since his father managed to liove to age 92, but eventually died from prostate cancer complications, and my father has it, and I currently have benign issues, as my father says of me, it is only a matter of time before I get, and not really a Q of IF I get it.

I DO have a urologist who looks after me, so we hopefully will catch any changes form benign to ?? sooner than later.

I am a skin cancer "survivor" {basal cell carncinomas }and have the major scars on my forehead to prove it.

I also have had 2 bening tumors removed form my back. We were all counting on the removal of those tumors would help my back, but not so.

Johnboy: naturally I wish the best at beating it!

Morning´ Everyone!

Woke up in the wee hours of the day with my heart trying to win the Capetown Races. It´s running stable now, but I feel exhausted.

Petra´s back is still giving her problems, so the household chores are on me again. Got to do the shopping for the weekend, dusting, vacuuming and laundry, but no cooking. She feels up to doing this - good, as I don´t like the food I cook. I am a professional eater, and not a professional cook!

I won´t be able to do much on the layout today. I have run out of supplies and have only pennies left in my budget for this month. I could finish the "water" as I still have plenty of that smelly paint, but I am not sure whether I want to do this. We will see...

Johnboy - good to see you again. Good to hear that you are improving. I do hope that you´ll soon be able to swallow properly to enjoy the upcoming BBQ season! Petra´s and my prayers for that!

Got to get going - CUL & have a good one!

Evenin' folks!

Janie I could sure a cup of decaf right now...  Thank you Ma'am!'

The local news is full of stuff on the storms that came our way over the last several days...  Even in Pittsford, NY the Erie Canal oveflowed and has mandated the evacuation of several homes.  Monroe County picked up over 2" of rain in the last 24 hours causing some problems there.  We are still under a flooding warning around most of the area.  I should mow the lawn again tomorrow but I know that on the West side of my lot there will be standing water.  The basement still has water flowing in at a pretty good rate.  I will go down and start the siphon one more time before I heasd to bed shortly.

I spent most of the day finishing odds and ends for the MLK Scholarship Dinner next Wednesday.  Still have some changes to make in the program before printing.  I printed the tickets for the meals tonight as well as all but one of the Scholarship Certificates.  Got the laundry done and made a run to the grocery store for some supplies....

It will be the end of next week before I can even think of doing any hobby stuff again...

Have a good night everyone!

Good evening. 71° and mostly clear here. Looks like weekend will be a little cloudy and no rain.

I was without phone service for a little while today. My Magicjack crashed and was down for the count. I had to uninstall it, restart the computer and reinstall the Magicjack. It works OK now.

The van ran good today. It was just a couple of short trips. The first was this morning when I went to my fathers place to meet the Home Health nurse. The second was this afternoon when I went to get my mail.

Had some trouble with the front USB ports on the HP again. If the other USB ports start acting I'll have the main board that I salvaged from my old computer and put it into this one and install the drivers for it. If Windows 8 decides it doesn't like the 32 bit drivers it can be replaced with another version of Windows.

Gotta see about getting a big box to the post office tomorrow morning. It's supposedly open for a couple of hours on Saturday. If not I'll take it next week at my earliest convenience.

Did a little programming on the //e this evening. Nothing major, just bending a program to my will.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening Dinners, Und Guten Abend Herr Ulrich.

 Flo, Bier gefällt Beer

Ulrich, I can understand why you don't want to go to DCC. Sometimes I wished I had not! But now that it is working fine I will not go back. Far as having to rewire your turnouts, I have read that before but I never did mine and they work fine. I have about 15 Peaco turnouts that power is controled by the way they are throwen and have not been a problem. With you running just one engine at a time, that I understand.

What drew me to DCC was sound, but yet most on my fleet is still none sound. Now sound for a Steam Engine, that is now a must! Big Smile If you ever decide you want the E Z, let me know. By the way, wit some luck the rail spikes should be heading your way Monday or Tuesday.

Galaxy, I pretty much guessed that was what she was talking about. My self, I think it is just another spin job so they can sale there wares as something new and improved! If you happen to know where I can find out more about this Mattress let me know pleases.

I am off Monday and Tuesday and there is no rain in the forecast! Yes

 Wir sehen uns Freitag, Ken

One time I had a cardboard box sitting on top of my gas stove and bumped the burner control without my realsing it and the box caught on fire.

My mother did the same sort of thing when we lived in Virginia way back in the 60's. Except in this case it was a pan of good old lard. She had the burner (gas stove) on low so to heat the lard slowly. She had to go outside for something and she bumped the stove as she went to the back door. That bump turned the burner up quite a bit. Not to high but enough it overheated the lard and set off a grease fire. Luckily she was coming back in right then and she grabbed the nearest extinguishing agent she had for grease fires. A box of baking soda. To this day I can still smell that scorched lard.

last mountain & eastern hogger

Galaxy, hope you enjoy the new stove.  My Wife has always wanted to have a gas stove, but I would need at least 60 feet of gas line to make a connection.

Prayers and Blessings to all standing in need at this time. My thoughts are with you.

Johnboy out...........................for now    Smile, Wink & Grin

Johnboy! GREAT to see you again!

Sounds like you are feeling some better???

On the stove: here is the deal: NYSEG {NY State Electric and GAS} came through the trailer park and said they'd pay the costs to convert to Nat gas and if they got enough converts, they'd do it.

Well, this was in 1997, 3 years before I came along, BUT MOH said "OK", and MADE them run the gas line the 45 or so feet to the kitchen for a future gas stove. NYSEG balked as they were only offering to convert hot water and heating systems, but MOH pushed it!

MOH has since been dying for that electic stove to die!

As I said in an earlier post as I said to the salesman when MOH walked away to "let me make the decision"...if I don't convert to gas NOW, I will never hear the end of it! It cost nearly twice as much as the electric model i was gonna buy, so it was a major choice to go gas!

Now MOH likes to bake, and claims doesn't like the electric so doesn't do it often. AND that gas heats "more evenly"! HA HA HA. I have PROOF it doesn't! The stove is perfectly level mind you, and I just baked off rolls. The ones in the left rear of the oven came out a nice "perfect" golden brown. The ones front right came out barely browned at all! {on same 1/2 sheet pan, middle of oven} SO even? I don't think so, and technically, you really should NOT have to rotate them, but that would have helped.

well, i baked a meatloaf, roasted a slab of beef, baked said rolls and cooked pots on top for smashed pots, adn cooked off carrots. I had meatloaf and pots, carrots and roll for dinner. The slab of beef for another dinner tomorrow or SUnday. I had to test run it, and I DO like it, but could have enjoyed the electric all as well. I DO like that the oven light comes on automatically when the door is open.

What I DON't like is it sticks out further from the cabinets than the old one,and the knobs for the burners are in the front at waist level, so I sideswipe them as I walk by, and when I grab the oven handle I jam the burner knobs with the oven mitt/hand!

well, have a great night!

Whistling

Hi Diners, how ya' all doing ?

Chloe, it is getting close to the supper hour, but I think I can still handle a bacon & tomato on toasted rye and an RBF. to chase.  Thanks much.

Today to report on MRRing, the only thing that is new right now is that I ordered a Bachmann Consoladation from F.D.T. in W.P. Scheme My main focus is of the 70s&80s but I do have a couple of other steamers, a 0-8-0 and aa GS-4 , so that occasionally when I want to drag around a selection of Billboard Reefers that I have and like, I can do it aporpriately.  Good price for it on their flyer and I had admired them since they first came out in about 2002. So the time had come.

I sure have benn admiring the photos here lately, there sure is some fine work being done and fast too. Makes me feel ashamed, I've been off work for almost six months and I have hardly made a dent, but it is only lately that I have felt strong enough to ddo a few things and here the other day I guess I over did it as my lower back has been screaming at me. Just not used to it.

Ulrich, you are quite a craftsman, I am enjoying watching the Keg Harbour come to life.

Brent, very nice layout room.  Will be a joy to be in.

Garry, I have to agree with others that your ability to tie the backgrounds in to the layout is amazing. I love the look and feel of your whhole layout.

Jeff, glad your health seems to be stablizing. Continue to improve Ol' buddy.

Haven't seen Terry from Wisconcin or Paul from Nevada for quite a spell, hope they are fine..

My health has improved, but not my swallowing.  I still can't get anything down and I'm really starting to hate it.   BBQ season is upon us and the smells outside are really getting to me. I can do all the exercises but they just haven't helped me anyway.  Guess it's just a waiting game.  I have to take solace that I am lucky to be alive I guess.

Sure hope all you folks enduring the rain get some sun to dry you out.

Galaxy, hope you enjoy the new stove.  My Wife has always wanted to have a gas stove, but I would need at least 60 feet of gas line to make a connection.

Prayers and Blessings to all standing in need at this time. My thoughts are with you.

well,

Guess what? The STOVE is HERE! And installed and now buring off!

Oh, the Joy! the rapture! almost like getting a new loco!

The guy arrived with it in his SUV of all things about 2:38 pm. SO not too far from the 2:00 timeline, so we didn't complain. Much. Not really. But had 3 bells come we were gonna call Lowes and complain.

Tom: we need to have some replacement windows done in the back MBR. There is a 5'x7'3 window bay window that is unsupported and is sagging right off the trailer. SO MOH wants a whole new bay, but I think just 3 or 4 double hungs mullioned together will be fine. No need for the "shelf" really. The AC is very crooked to the window frame and next year the budget MUST include fixing that. BUt our windows...are/have to be special double hungs surface mounted to the outside wall of the trailer. They make them special for trailers.

this year We have : bought a new dryer,  new stove, will be replacing the water heater, sealcoating the roof, replacing the heat tape. Then we have to get a few new pannels of the clear corrugated plastic for the poorch. So, that is about all our finances can bear, so NEXT year -assuming the bay holds together that long- that will be done, and the skirting too, and finish the porch. the trailer is 31 yesrs old so have to expect some maintenace!

well, I have boiled a pot'o'water for a spot'o'tea, now to bake a meatloaf for dinner!

see yas

Good afternoon. I received the contract the other day for some window replacements. They are also going to change out 6 interior door as well. I decided to take the signed contract and the deposit back to their office this morning, as I had made 2 minor changes to the contract and wanted to be sure to point them out. We decided to stop for breakfast as it was on the way. As luck would have it, I got an e-mail with a coupon last night. Buy one breakfast & get the second free. Had another coupon last Monday too. Hope they keep sending them. Dinner

It's been very cloudy all day, nasty looking really, but no rain. Now I cut the grass on Monday, but I swear it grew 3 inches since then. So I just finished cutting it again. Had to use the bag on the mower as it was too tall to mulch cut.

So far our plans are to get a little railfanning in on Saturday & Sunday. In fact, the wife is making chicken & stuffing for our lunch tomorrow. Will stop & get a couple of burgers Sunday. Hope everyone has a good wekend and stays safe.

Mornin'.....

Zoe, just a bowl of Maple Pecan organic cereal to go along with a cup of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee for me this morning.

Gee, bet you'll never guess what today holds for us here in the Finger Lakes?  Oh, Galaxy already gave it away....  We got over an inch of rain over night and still have a light rain going at the moment.  Just restarted the siphon down cellar.  Water is all over the floor down there and it is just pouring in by the back steps.  It is all of 49°F at the moment with a high today of 52 this afternoon.  Overnight tonight will go to 39°F.  A cold front is moving in with this band of storms.  Just turned the heat back on and the air conditioner off here at home.

I have a meeting with the Chartered Partner Representative from a unit we are trying to get back up and running later this morning.  I also have a check for them to fund the startup of the Pack.  That is from the now closed account that was for the old pack.  We will be meeting at a new Gift and Lounge place here in town.  I haven't been in there so I will enjoy seeing and patronizing a new local business.

I have to do laundry today and start printing all the needed materials for the Scholarship dinner as well.

Catch you all later (if I don't float away).

well,

I had to run to the bank and CU.

I was raining not cats and dogs, but cows and horses! there was a lot of ponding going on.

I think {there I go again} that we will escape major flooding, though.

Penn Yan, Yates County, that Ray posted links to is really getting hammered though again!

It seems to be moving off to the north and east, WHICH STILL could leave us with flooding IF the waters that flow down our way don't behave!

It had all but stopped by the tiem I got back home, W of wherre I had to go today.

All to do now is to wait for the STOVE!!!

ANd we'll be dog  gone if we didn't find a covered over outlet behind the stove! I will see it teh guy can install an outlet for the 110 use IF it is 110. It is a 2 gang box with what looks like one set going IN and one set going out. I can't imagine it to be more than a pass-through plug, BUT since it is a 2 gang box, I wonder if it might be a 220 outlet with 2 110's feeding into it?

"Dun't no" as Ricky Ricardo would say.

Good morning. .... Sunny and cool this morning.

Meanwhile, back at the 2-10-2. I've been running it with a non-sound decoder to work the bugs out. I think the electrical problems are solved, and it will not have short circuits again. Oddly, the tender is now derailing for no apparent reason, and I am working to solve that. Eventually I will re-install the Tsusami decoder which has been returned from its third trip to the factory. Sountraxx has been good about fixing it each time I sent it to them.

Happy model railroading

Good morning. It's 57° with 91% humidity. The high will be 82°. A few clouds, lots of sun.

Not much planned today. I'm waiting on the call from the Home Health nurse. Other than that my day is open.

Lunchtime!

Zoe, a submarine sandwich and an RBF, please!

Afternoon Folks,

no MRRing this morning. We went to see Petra´s aunt in the nursing home and are right back from that trip. We are the only close-by relatives and also the only ones who go frequently to see after her. This time, we brought her some clothing. Seeing her eyes smile makes us happy.

Ken - you got me there! Your offer is really tempting and I had to give it more than one thought. Basically, the layout is a 1 loco affair, it has been designed for that and DC operation. DCC would be fine, but I would have to redo the basic wiring of my Peco Electrofrogs switches to cope with DCC. That would be some job! If I were to go the DCC route, I´d have to equip my locos with a sound decoder, which I cannot afford. I am planning on getting Kato´s analog sound sytem once it´s in the market, providing it does not exceed, say, $ 80, street price. If you are not mad at me, I´d say no to DCC.

Petra is calling for lunch - CUL!

Have a good one!

Ken: I hate to tell you this, while you may not carry it,  but there IS  a memory foam mattress made that DOES have memory foam made into support coils for the upper layers of memory foam mattress topping.

They call it something-or-other{the name elludes me now}, but the theme is that it is the only memory foam mattress that stays cool, while other regular mattresses heat up by absobing and reflecting body heat.

Each coil is made of strong cooling "gel-like" cooling memory foam coiled lattice affair "to support and cushion you while you sleep". The top {and bottom} layer is about 2" thick of the new "cooling memory foam".

It has an "open cell construction to dissipate heat".

I am SURE they are VERy expensive.

WE won't do a memory foam again. We have a memory foam pilllow topped mattress, the first thing to break down was the memory foam topper! Then we DO buy slipppers lined wih memory foam, it too, breaks down within a week or so. ANYthing "memory foam" we have had, breaks down sooner or later. The memory foam MAY have been made for the astronauts to sleep on in space, and it may "maintain its shape" out there in space, but here,on Earth,  gravity does a number on it! Oh, nad BTW, the mattress is now just 10 years old adn out of lifetime warantee, so we are in search of a new one, but the memory foam pillow top had degraded so much by the 5 year mark it is terrible!! and naturally, the company we bought it from went out of business!!!! Gee, I wonder why???

 Good Evening Folks

Why Thank You Flo for the Beer

Some how I eeked out a good day at work, did not have my first customer till 2:00 PM. The bought and I made a extra $21.00. Next customer came in around 5:18 and was looking for a Memory Foam Mattress which the wife (Kathy) will be sleeping on? Whistling See was a little confused, thought a Memory Foam Mattress Coils where made with Memory Foam? Got that straighten out and she started trying mattress.

Here is the problem with Working With A Idiot Even When They Are Not Even There! Bang Head When we order Sheet Sets and Futon Covers we can not order colors, the manafactour picks what colors they have to send. Now Idiot Dave has been told this and he has been there 5 years! Yet, I heard him this last weekend tell a customer he would order a ceritian futon cover color for her? Whistling So she comes into pick up her Futon Frame, Mattress and Cover while I was with the above people!Whistling Wel you can take it from there, she was SoapBox and I was catching the blunt of it! Bang Head

While this was going on I had yet another coustmer come in that wanted a cheap twin. By now I had total lost control of the first set of customer where I could make some commission! Guy bought his cheap twin, mad Lady will be back Saturday to give a some of her mind and the couple looking for the Memory Foam Mattress say thanks and where heading toward the door while I was loading the twin mattress. Sigh As luck would have it, they tried one last bed as I was getting done with the twin.

Got them talking again and got control back! Smile Had to discout a little more than I wanted to, but got the sale and made a extra $80.00! Big Smile With the first sell, this one and the one from Wednesday I have around $251.00 in comission this coming check. Thank goodness I need the funds so I can get Sue back to the denist next week!

Ulrich my friend, I made it to K-10 tonight after work. Yes Hard to believe there is 1000 rail spikes in this small of a bag. Did you see my question about if you like to have my old Bachmann E Z Command?

 See you all Friday, Ken

Weather tonight is cool and clear. Temp is 48° with a 5mph southwest breeze. Changed the coil out on the van. Watched some TV. Did some minor work on a few computers, took all of thirty minutes. Cleaned up a couple of locos whether they needed it or not. That's all I did today.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

well, all, I am going to bed here in 10 minutes.

FOr those of you into the "saga of the gas stove"...part nine will commence tomorrow when I will hopefully have something good to report!

It will be interesting to see how it will change the NYSEG bill {New York State Electric and Gas}, The gas stove should save us money on usage over the {supposed} higher cost of electric cooking, but gas can get expensive too. We will now have Nat gas for:heat, hot water, coooking, and ELectric for Lights and A/C only.

Now we could do what RAY did, and get SOLAR to offset/eliminate the A/C nad lihgting costs, we might be sitting pretty, though I MIGHT be tempted then to go ALL ELECTRIC!

have a good nihgt...

howmus

Galaxy, even without eklectricity you should be able to light the burners of the stove using a match or other such thing.  At least mine will.  One nice thing about a gas stove.  The oven won't work but you should be able to use the burners.  Gald you finally heard from the installer!

RAY: The new ones have safety systems that won't allow it to burn if the electronic ignition hasn't been tripped. SO using it while the power is out is  moot point now.

We have an old  piloted water heater, so we have hot water when the power is out as long as the town's generator keeps the well pump pumping.

Our neighbor has a new{er} gas stove and I said the same thing you did "well at least you can cook"...she showed/told me NOPE. It WILL light with a match, but it shuts it off very quickly if the electronic ignition didn't start that flame.

{they have an electric H2O heatrer, so they have NO hot water and NO stove to cook with either...at least we have HOT water!}

{of course after 24 hours we have to BOIL said water because the well may be contaminated by flood waters, and/or the treatment system does not running on the generator too.}
We will find out soon enough!!!

Hopefully WE DON't get what others have gotten out of these storms!
